Damn I paid 13 BTC for 2x S7 and now people is buying them at 4 BTC/piece
This is insane, and diff will sky rocket because of price going up.
This was my worst investment

I am thinking of solo mining with them for a while and try my luck hitting a block ...

BTC value has went up so much we are a little under 4 per... crazy.   People in early batches paid a LOT more at this point here is a updated breakdown with new even higher price:

Batch 1 -  1823 USD approx 240 per coin = 7.59 BTC
Batch 3 - 1658 USD approx 260 around oc 16th , 230 around the oct 22 = 6.37 to 7.20 BTC
Batch 5 - 1799 USD approx 454.67 per coin =  3.957 BTC

The other problem with the 100 minimum is that most folks will end up having to buy from a reseller - which will make the already TOO HIGH price WAY TOO HIGH.

I'm also still very concerned about the longevity, given the serious issues reported by the only ones anyone has reported about "in the wild" to date.

It might take a group buy to get one of these.  A 100 goal is a little hard even at group buy.

Someone trusted would likely need to do a group buy, and work with them on a lower MOQ for a certain area to buy.
4563  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Suggestion for Home Rig on: November 04, 2015, 11:17:50 AM
How much would a S3 make me? Should I get one from Ebay or here?
Here if you could, currently on nicehash you would get .00375 per day, this currently translates to $1.39 usd daily.

Is it worth it? I wonder if I would ever make any money...

no it isn't, you need a little farm ata least to do somethign at this point, or bitcoin need to skyrocket to 1k to be slightly worth it

if with the money of the s3, you have bought some btc(probably less than one but still..) at this point, you roi was x2 already

It is not really true a lot including myself were profitable at 230.   Price as you mentioned went up to 460+ over 100 percent up.  It is a AMAZING time to be a miner currently.   Do the ROI math if you don't trust, but I think you will see more trying to mine if it keeps going up.

Someone who bought a S3 if they mine more then the amount they paid in BTC...  they have a ROI and better then just buying.  So those who ROI are going to be very happy.

I may fire the baby up again for swap'ing electric for btc

Just buy the BTC, it's faster.

There is something about being a miner.  Some including myself truly love it.  Its a great hobby for those of us who go over the "home" mining amount.

Also it's pretty profitable for some.  At 230 I was running profitable..... so at 465.69 (100 percent up) I'm doing very very good at mining.
4565  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread oct 29th to Nov 12th picks are open!! With a bonus reward. on: November 04, 2015, 11:08:10 AM
if we go to 462  the sept 4 to nov 4 will be 231 to 462   that is 100%

Coinbase currently at: 465.69!  This means we went up 100 percent.

Amazing jump up in price.   We might even see some more today.... so over 100 percent from 230 days.  Pretty crazy thinking about it all.
4566  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 04, 2015, 06:35:17 AM
So here's another mystery to add to the U3 story.  I've been running 1 U3 for several weeks now and it has been behaving "normally".  Today I turned my S3+ back on and, for no other apparent reason, the U3 now runs at a 13%-15% error rate.  If I turn off the S3+ the errors drop back down to "normal" (for this unit normal HW error is ~ 3%).  They are both powered by the same PSU (800W gold rated, plenty of juice for them both), but that is the only common thread.  Isn't that peculiar?  Anyone else had a similar experience?

My life has been amazing on U3's last day and a half.  I bought a R1 from crazy guy and he did a custom firmware.   I have just stock  power supplies that come with them, and 3 U3's.

I normally at least at morning or night had one to reset, possibly some during day.  But with his custom firmware I had not had to touch them for almost a day and a half.  He has been able to fix zombies through his custom firmware it seems like.  Still testing it out by very very promising results.

If I get a few more day's of this I will be suggesting everyone to get one from him with his fimware.
4567  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin/USD exchange rate going up. Anyone turning old gear back on? on: November 04, 2015, 05:49:02 AM
I have some (alot) of 1w/Gh gear.  High power bills be damned, I am turning it back on!  Going to be a really warm winter.

Anybody else doing this?  At this rate, I might even dust off my underclocked singles. Cheesy

I'm sure there are some who will do this.  Some justify paying more as the heat is there.  But at price now see on BTC value no doubt more old gear online.

As a general rule I suggest selling old gear if not using it.  They bring a little more ROI hopefully by doing this.  The lose value if you sit them there unplugged.

Hey, guys,
I stopped mining bitcoins long time ago when everybody switched from videocards to fpgas. So I was out of the loop for a long time. Recently I decided to dig back in and after days of reading forums and analytics I have one question left to make sure that I understand the situation before buying an asic:

Is it true that the main problem in mining is efficiency and electricity costs that eat up to 60% of the profit(depending on the prices in your region)?

You will need to do ROI math.  There is no onesize fit's all on amount electricity eats up.  Some it can be at a loss even.

What is your electricity price? And do you have a import/vat tax?  That will allow us to give you a general idea.

This article shows why I personally would not be investing in a casino - http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-poker-site-operator-to-pay-25000-fine/

Just dodging regulation to run the site if done wrong you get in big trouble.  It's not a small deal operating a casino if you are operating in a place with laws.  Most try to go to places to dodge these laws on hosting.

Satoshidice doesnt allow US based gamblers, and to my knowledge there arent any strict gambling laws  elsewhere, especially not where I live.

But that article you put out just proves the opposite. That guy got fined because the big oligarch casinos dont like competition and they used regulation to kick them out.

So with your example you just proved how corrupt regulation is and how evil political tool can it be ( ban of BTC in Taiwan rings a bell?)

You know some people are using VPN's and Proxy's to get through to satoshidice.  But blocking US I would agree gives them better chance of not being taken down.

How are the laws in Europe and China on gambling sites online?  Just curious if anyone lives there and knows if legal/illegal.

What country are you in realbitcoin is I can ask?  I do admit I am more familiar with us, many other countries I don't know as well I am not a lawyer.
4570  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Bitcoin User on: November 04, 2015, 04:25:19 AM
Hello all, I'm a new Bitcoin adopter (if you can call me one even though I haven't made it to owning 1 BTC yet) and have enjoyed learning about how bitcoins work. I'm really just playing around with faucets and coinbrawl in my free time to make some satoshi and then investing that money in loans over on btcjam and loanbase.

Despite all the warnings, I've enjoyed investing in other people's loans and been able to make some (very minimal with my minimal bitcoin) positive returns despite some investments being losses. I've only been investing for a couple of months and have found some very reliable borrowers. I know it's a risk because at any time someone can just decide to walk away, but with only about $10 of satoshi and zero of my own money at risk I am enjoying the game.

My next adventure I plan on starting in the next month or two (if my skill/luck continues) is to start storing some of my ROI in a paper wallet. I'm only expecting to deposit a few cents every couple of months into it, but am excited to learn more about how paper wallets work and are used. Roll Eyes

Finally, once I start getting consistent payments on the two loan sites on a daily/weekly business I think I'll start looking into BTC trading. Can't wait to expand my knowledge of Bitcoin and just wanted to say thanks for all the guides and useful information people post here to help newbs like me! Tongue Grin
BTCJam has a very high default rate IMO. It is hard for anyone to even make an ROI even if you invest in the top rated users. Some of them would default eventually, the arbitration does not work and most provides fake ID. However, if you want, just diversify the investments and it would give you a higher chance.

Paper wallet is great for storing coins over a long term. Try using bitaddress.org to create the wallet. They basically work the same as any other wallet but the private key is on your paper. To spend it, you have to scan the QR code and key in encryption key if applicable. I personally fee mycelium's cold storage spending function to be quite handy.

I would agree BTCJam needs to change for it to be a good investment.  Right now if you have someone default they give you their info.... and are like here go sue them.   Problem is some are in different countries, some investments were so small a lawyer would cost more then you get, also the type of person who defaults chances are does not have a lot to lose.  You cant get money out of someone who does not have it.  Avoid unless they change to helping with defaults.

And paper wallet is a good idea at any investment amount.  Gives you a good way to practice being safe.  Even few cents you can try it and get use to doing it.
4571  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [CATALOG] Good websites to Invest My Bitcoins? on: November 04, 2015, 04:10:52 AM
Well I just checked satoshidice:

3613.54081797 BTC liquid cash = 1.3 MILLION $

They can run away with it any second now, yet they havent in the past 3 years (and back in 2013 that was worth much more).

So I think that is just paranoia, I think Satoshidice is very safe, and trustworthy.

Chances are will they? No they are running profitable... so they do not want to ruin that.  It is a true money making venture.

I like a little more regulation then what gambling sites provide.  But not everyone wants that so it all depends on your risk your willing to do on investments.

I dont think they can get away with stoling that much.

Your little regulation wont help at all in that case. Either they steal it and they get away with it (hard to believe) or they get caught.

Either way your regulation wont help at all, only the police after they get caught if they do it.

So your regulation has no benefits, but it can definitely scare away many gamblers as their privacy would be hurt.

No i dont think any regulation is needed here.

I saw the notification email come through, but had no idea it was yours till now.

Congratulations! Well deserved!

Congratz for sure.  And what a good time to get it. On coinbase we are hitting 441 ... this is crazy.

I keep wondering when it will stop going up but it just does not stop.

What we need  is someone to overengineer it a ton and look as cool as this case: http://digg.com/video/liquid-cooled-computer-video

Possibly the most sexy watercooled PC I've seen.  Know it makes no financial sense on a bitcoin miner to over engineer the liquid cooling this much, but would be fun to watch mine.
4574  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: November 04, 2015, 02:07:52 AM
sitting on my BTC right now.  Not sure what to do with it.  Any recommendations??  ( besides donating it to you  Grin )

Best advice is enjoy the ride right now.  We have not had a rise like this in quite a while.   BTC keeps getting more value... which is great.

Sitting on it is not a bad idea at all.  Just keep in mind it can go down at any time just as easy.

This time I only played faucet. I saw many people who were advised to join the signature campaign. I will try it when my rank member account Smiley

Just an advice, join on a sig campaign when you a have some knowledge on bitcoin so you'll enjoy having discussion here and at the same time earning bitcoins Smiley It's also good to avoid spamming and posting non sense post.

If you think you already have some knowledge, feel free to try it now Smiley There are some campaigns out there that accept jr members
and how about the langguage ? that is another problem i have now.

It depends I would say.  As long as you are able to make your point, and it's valid you should be ok.

It could be hard if it's bad enough it seems like spam.  So that is only way it would be bad is if you seem like no point and spam of words.  But there is also local boards depending on your main language (only thing is a lot of sig campaigns don't count them).

boring without pix ? let's see some s7's in action. reading can be boring sometimes, pix tells a thousand words.

couple of pages up there were some miners using only 2 pcie instead of 3 per hash board ?

tia for sharing

If you do this and get caught you lose you warranty.  Really on such a high priced item it's not worth risking it.

After 90 day's do what you want. But for the first 90 day's I highly suggest not breaking warranty.

And I liked the part when BTC price move up all of us get exited and order and order and finaly all of us home miners get fucked...
The winers are China brothres for sure selling long premined  new machines Grin

Hi, it can run separatelly pools, you need to put the pools on each side separatelly  Wink

Yes from what I've read you can set different pools as it's needed.  One will be a BTC pool, and one a LTC pool.

Hopefully we hear more soon.  It could be interesting.
4578  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining when the Bitcoin value goes up on: November 04, 2015, 01:47:16 AM
Please evaluate and provide feedback:

Bitmain AntMiner S7 - $2415
Power supply - ? (please provide cost for wall outlet)
2000 kWh: 6.3 cents

What is the estimated time to pay this off if btc averages $350 over the next year?

2000 kWh is 6.3 cents ? Something does not add up. That would mean you pay nearly nothing per hour since a S7 is 28.8 kWh per day.

With this nearly free electricity it would take 7 months to ROI. Not sure why you're paying 2415$ instead of 1700$ per.

I'm guessing he means 6.3 cents for the first 200 KWH or something.   Some electric companies have a variable based on how much you use.

Can you go into your electricity a little bit more in details?  It is hard to say without knowing more on your electricity.
4579  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining profitable again. on: November 04, 2015, 01:40:47 AM
S5 are profitable right now if

 1) You already have one, or can pick it up cheap and have fairly cheap electric -or-
 2) *IF* the current Bitcoin price surge lasts more than a few months AND you can pick up a S5 semi-cheap and have semi-cheap electric.

I don't anticipate the current price surge lasting all that long - but I've got enough existing miners to be happy if I'm wrong.

I've had one since it was released so it is pretty profitable still.   A lot of mining is upfront risk.   Sometimes you take a little bit more risk then you like to as a miner.

I just wish I did not sell my S4's at this point now.  But cant be right all the time.

 There, I fixed your statement.

I suggest using BTC calculator https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator .  With it you add difficulty change which makes a HUGE difference over time.

I really like it you can go by week, difficulty period, etc.  It's what I personally use when I dont use excel.
