I opened Firefox's task manager, but it's not showing anything out of the ordinary. Incidentally, what makes me even more suspicious is that I close Firefox and wait, and CPU usage stays near 100%.

...After you closed Firefox it may hang (with no UI) while some part of it is working... At least on Windows this is not uncommon.

Since I have no idea what can it be, I would start with doing changes that can help me find the culprit.
What if you use another browser for a while? It could be a test to show whether the problem is with your Firefox, some website or something else.
Also you can take a look what extensions you have installed, maybe you see anything suspicious.

These are 2 ideas/directions you can try.
And/or you can wait for answers from people more into Linux...

Yes, but I’m not vaccinated, because until now it seemed to me that this was just a convention ...

As a heavy smoker, I have severe shortness of breath in the mornings and evenings .... so for the most part I worry that my already deplorable lung condition will get worse (although I have not yet taken a test). No matter how stupid it may sound, my subconscious will feel better if it does not know about the diagnosis and will position the current state as a common cold, (although I admit I feel inner anxiety).

I hope that this will help, at least with the anxiety part: most of my family is not vaccinated and the symptoms were easy.
So keep staying optimistic, drink a lot of tea/infusion, sleep as much as you can.
Our doc told us take Aspenter (gastro-resistant aspirin) once/day, 14 days (for the adults) and that was it all. But we didn't even got a fever off this, just a lot of coughing.
The difference is though that we don't smoke...

Good luck!

I'll just quote one of my replies to somebody else in this same situation:

Did you do some basic research about this website before playing so much money there? No? Why?!
Unfortunately you're not the first one with problems there. And, since people never learn, you'll probably not be the last one either.
All I can tell is that I'm sorry for you. Quite a costly lesson.

I am sure that from now on you'll look more carefully and use the services of websites with much better reputation.
4564  Other / Meta / Re: Ban on signatures for 1xbit campaign participants, do you agree? on: February 09, 2022, 02:43:50 PM
OP, while your intentions are most probably good, the correct approach is in RapTarX answer.
Let's keep the same rules for everybody, no matter how annoying or how big scammers they are.

Negative feedback and flags are the tools for this. People have to learn to read and understand those.

Fuck... covid got to my family.

Woah. Best of luck then, I wish it's Omicron, I wish you and your family the easy version with small or no symptoms.
I'm telling you because me and my whole family had it and we didn't feel it more like a winter cold (and I know it was COVID since we got tested).
4566  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Call for help to the forum's security experts on: February 09, 2022, 02:31:20 PM
What's your OS?

Fedora 30. Linux.

Right now, I'm seeing CPU usage in the upper 90% only on Firefox, which makes no sense.

Does it happen always or it's related to visiting certain website? I'm asking because it was not uncommon, especially a couple of years ago, for websites to have crypto miners hidden in their pages.
You may want to take a look what does Firefox' task manager tell. Maybe it gives you a clue who's the culprit: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/task-manager-tabs-or-extensions-are-slowing-firefox
4567  Economy / Speculation / Re: Deception of manipulators or new rise in prices? on: February 09, 2022, 02:24:43 PM
and I think that market makers will not raise prices now, because many people bought bitcoin in the range of 45-60 thousand dollars.

I'm not that much convinced that you're correct since in the last year the trading volumes weren't so great.

While indeed, some could have been buying in around the first months of 2021, afterwards there weren't so many new buyers, especially knowing that certain institutional investors kept buying and stashing all they could. (..and the price still managed to jump to 69k despite the low volumes)

So while I clearly don't agree with those "known bloggers" strategies (I'm not convinced they care much of crypto as long as they get so many followers and probably income off them), I can't really tell that your conclusion is that much correct either, especially with so many good news (about adoption) coming. But maybe I'm wrong... I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't tell anything for sure. Wink
4568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Upcoming Apple iPhone feature for crypto payments on: February 09, 2022, 01:45:41 PM
but I believe this implementation is nothing new.

I wouldn't be surprised. The only differences I'd expect would be that's an app directly on the phone (don't need to search for the correct app), it's endorsed under the umbrella of Apple and it's probably kinda ready to use (no need to configure this or that). I would not be surprised if they will even allow the merchant choose whether he will actually receive crypto or fiat.

Not a single word about either crypto or bitcoin.

I didn't look deeper, but maybe Stripe (whose actually is this "Tap to Pay") gives more details?
4569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Upcoming Apple iPhone feature for crypto payments on: February 09, 2022, 01:15:46 PM
Apple have planned to launch its tap to pay feature for the upcoming Apple iPhone.

While it's indeed a good step forward, I don't see it as a super wow news if it's not coming to also the older iPhone versions.
Many do prefer older iPhone simply because it's smaller. Or cheaper.

But this may be copied pretty soon by some Android phone makers and then it'll become interesting. After that, in max 2 years, everybody will have that option at hand.
4570  Economy / Economics / Re: Fungibility on: February 09, 2022, 12:45:30 PM
Is there an ongoing discussion about this?

There may have been very few, but it was nothing big, because this information of you is incorrect:

A coin that was used for "illicit" activities is not worth as a newly minted coin.

There are far too few who care whether some of their coins can be tracked back to illicit use.
There's a saying like "if the (river's) water has passed over 7 stones, you can consider it clean". Obviously it's false, but something similar goes on with Bitcoin too. If you buy and sell and transfer in all directions, sooner or later your coins will get partly tainted. But if the related illicit transactions are "way behind", nobody really cares.

And that's why such discussion doesn't pick much traction: people are not interested in paying a premium for fresh coins, since the partly tainted coins are not "punished".

---
Of course, the coins directly liked to illicit action or poorly laundered are a different story.

I just created a flag, please support it here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;flag=2907

Warned both CMC and CG and soon CEX will be delisted/tagged.

EDIT: Fully aware of hacked account theory so save it. I'm just pointing out its been a LONG time since this account (even if hacked) posted on that social network page.

You may want to start with taking a look at the 2021 discussion here on that topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5378823
4575  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Giving Bitcoin to Employees on: February 09, 2022, 07:58:44 AM
1. It would be based on what the employees prefer.

2. If you give them Bitcoin you should teach them about local wallet and you should also tell them about hardware wallets and maybe cold storage too. And how to safely store their seed backups. Bitcoin are so easy to get stolen, the safekeeping should be well understood.

3. You may have to also give them some official papers that they can use for tax purpose (crypto capital gains) when they will want to sell those bitcoins.
4576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to claim BTC forks from old Electrum wallet? on: February 09, 2022, 07:39:16 AM
I would appreciate if someone advice a wallet that will work with old Electrum seeds.

It depends on how old the seed is. But unless it's from 2015 or before that date, old seed is not "old", it's just seed.

Now, the best wallet for Electrum seeds is... Electrum. Recover your wallet, sync it, see the addresses tab and which addresses have ever had money on them. Check which ones are eligible for fork coins, get the private key of those and import in any fork wallet you want (although I think that only Coinomi is reputable enough for the job).

Keep in mind that before claiming the fork coins you'd better move your bitcoins away from the addresses you're claiming for. There were cases users didn't do that and the bitcoins got stolen.
4577  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I am one of the people who had my BTC stolen from electrum wallet on: February 09, 2022, 06:24:30 AM
Almost all open source software is released under licensing that normally states "absolutely no warranty is provided for the software".

Exactly. I'll be quoting from the exact license file of Electrum (excuse the caps, it's original).

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE
LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION
OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION
WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

Sorry OP, but you've probably have agreed to that when started using Electrum.
4578  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Open source crypto wallet on: February 09, 2022, 06:19:35 AM
Correct me if am wrong, but I think electrum mobile wallet is not open source

Well, you are wrong.
If you go on that very git I've linked, you can find the android folder too with instructions on how to build reproducible APK from that source code.

4579  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Open source crypto wallet on: February 08, 2022, 08:28:28 PM
A web wallet is usually custodial. And "not your keys, not your coins" - you'll have only an account there. They can ask fro KYC, you'll probably pay more for the on-chain transactions and so on.

A wallet on your computer or phone is as safe as your device is. But here you can find open source ones, like Bitcoin Core (but beware, this one downloads 300GB = the whole blockchain, hence may not be suitable for newbies), Electrum (which has versions for PC and also mobile), Sparrow wallet, and probably many more.

If you plan to get significant amount of coins, I advise you also study about hardware wallets and cold storage. For example it's pretty easy to set up an Electrum as cold storage, but it's also very easy to misunderstand the basics and misuse it (misuse = connect to internet with a device meant to be cold storage).

Can you tell me how to upload pictures, I want to put the QR code of whatsapp here. =. =!

Upload the pictures to imgur and post the links here. But please upload images of the mining gear, not WhatsApp whatever for private talk.
The point is to ensure first that you indeed have those new miners.
It would be advised that some discussion starts here, until you build up some trust.
