From Juventus to Roma. Dybala signs a three-year contract with AS Roma as a free agent. It wasn't necessary for him to stay in Serie A. It would have been better if he went somewhere else like La Liga. Does Mourinho or money really make him want to join Roma?
Who says that big La Liga clubs and serious title contenders were even interested in him? Real never considered him. At one point in the past, Barcelona was somewhat interested, but that interest faded away with time. Money and Roma? Definitely not. He will be earning less in Roma than what he did in Juventus and especially what he could have earned if he extended his contract. He signed a €4.5 million/season + bonuses with AS Roma. Juve offered him €6 + 3 millions in bonuses. He refused to extend thinking he was worth more and started flirting with Inter. After a few rounds of talks, even Inter lost interest and Roma was everything that was left. He shot himself in the foot and fu**ed up nicely.

I saw an interview with Man. City manager Pep Guardiola a few hours ago where he said that it's all media speculation, the club has not spoken with Neymar, nor were there any talks about a possible deal. Neymar is not worth the money he is currently earning in PSG and Europe's elite clubs know that. I doubt he would be interested in a salary cut, so he is probably staying where he is.

It's hard for me to comment on that. I am not a software developer, so I can't imagine what it means creating and releasing a software or piece of code without making any profit from it. Making it a proprietary piece of software would mean that it does not fulfill all the conditions to be called open-source, but I was only referring to the publicly or not publicly available code. I think it's morally wrong to take an already open-source codebase, change it, perfect it, and then make it proprietary and call it your own. It can't be your own if someone else already laid the foundations. If ColdCard did that, then it's a pretty shitty thing to do. But that's just an opinion not based on any knowledge of what it takes to create a piece of software.
4584  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Help on: July 20, 2022, 01:02:07 PM
I don't want to be a fuddy-duddy, but why attempt to broadcast a transaction with no internet connection or by using a node that is offline in the first place? It won't work and the error message the software displays doesn't really matter. Just connected to a fully functioning server and hopefully everything should be back to normal.
4585  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which hardware wallet to buy? on: July 20, 2022, 12:44:57 PM
It got me thinking though, is the fee when you transfer onto ledger from an exchange always the same for a specific crypto or does the fee change depending on something?
Centralized exchanges mostly have fixed fees, and like SFR10 mentioned, they charge too much and fill their pockets with that money. Only a part of what you pay is actually used for the mining fees. Most of it is their profit. I remember that many CEXs used to charge 0.0005 BTC when withdrawing Bitcoin. Many probably still do it even today. That's almost $12 right now, but in reality even if you paid $1 in BTC, you would still overpay depending on the input/output count and types of addresses used.
4586  Other / Meta / Re: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 20, 2022, 12:20:38 PM
Instead of helping those people to have free advertisement why not create a free thread group...
What in God's name is a "free thread group?"

which other people can volunteer to participate then those businessman who want to avail the project need to pay
Pay? Didn't you say in your previous sentence that the "thread group" is free? So the "businessmen" need to pay a fee in the "free thread group" for what exactly? For promotion? How is that different from a classic signature campaign? I am trying to give legitimate projects (if we can find such) some free promotion. I don't want to create some free group to collect money.

and the payments will go directly to theymos wallet address use on auction for sure this will help more the forum and it will be beneficial to all users.
The forum doesn't need financial aid. Bitcointalk has millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin. What would be auctioned off? "Free thread group" t-shirts and other merchandise? Maybe a "free thread group" physical Bitcoin.

Oh, I get it. So the code is publicly available and you can inspect and verify it if you want. But you are not allowed to use their code for your own software needs and forks. That's OK. It still means it's open-source then. It's an unorthodox way to go about things, but that's their decision.

WalletScrutiny has tagged all other ColdCard Mks as unreproducible, but the Mk4 has not been reviewed yet. I am looking forward to what they have to say.
4588  Other / Meta / Re: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 20, 2022, 09:28:56 AM
I mentioned previously that I mentioned this idea briefly to theymos, and here is what he said about it. I am sharing his entire quote but I would like to emphasize the last thing he said:

I feel like the thing with people doing free signature ads etc. will not be very popular. You could try it, but I don't want to promote it right now.

Quote
Obviously, I am not talking about the usual casinos and stuff like that. I am talking about new projects or software developed by individuals who don't have the resources to pay for advertising. We as a community could do that and not charge them anything.

For this sort of thing, I might be willing to give them a factoid slot, especially if the thing-to-be-advertised doesn't make any money. BPIP has several free factoid slots, for example. If an appropriate service appears, please create a topic in Meta about giving it a factoid slot.

Thanks.

Problem will start when there will be conflict of interests among forum users when some will not get the opportunity, they will think it was unjustified for them.
There is no perfect system and you can't make everyone happy. You can try your best to stay neutral and professional though. Ultimately, each person should have the right to promote what they believe is right or better.

I don't expect anyone to leave a (well) paid signature campaign for the free promotion of something new. Most of the good posters and most active members have been in long-term campaigns for a long time. I think that the number of users who are free and want to wear signatures for free is too small. too small to adapt the forum to them.
it is easy for us from a comfortable position (from a well-paid campaign) to encourage others to carry the advertisement for free.
That's not something I expect either. It could be something that posters who aren't in a paid campaign would be interested in. Let's take ChipMixer as an example. This campaign doesn't require their participants to wear avatars and personal texts. I am sure that some of them would be willing to wear an avatar or text for free as they have done in the past as well. With that in mind, you get good good posters that have room to promote other services as well.

Clearly we have a news filed and I supposed its working very well and I perhaps your proposal would be maybe a subboard or pinned post that carries these projects.
Not a new sub-board. It's complicated enough with the ones we have.

* Every developer would try to reap from the opened window. I mean, why should I pay when I can get it for free right?
* How do you determine a genuine broke guy with an idea from a financially capable one in an anonymous space?
These are legitimate questions and concerns. That's why we have discussions like this one to find the best solutions.

* Sure this isn't so much for something your not exactly on  the team?
Sorry, I didn't understand what you are asking here.

And speaking of those that might want to offer their Avatar and personal text, how many are they? is it really worth the effort?
Like dkbit98 mentioned in his post, I can always create a poll and ask. But the results can be totally fake and people could lie intentionally. We might not know for sure until such a campaign starts.

This will only end up being another way scammers and fraudsters going to use to get free advertising on the forum, and you know what? its not just going to be walking away with free advertising, they are also going to be walking away with money belonging to many forum members, and this, honestly wont be cool.
You are thinking about some type of fundraising. That would surely not be something I would advertise. If someone wants to donate to a project, it's their responsibility to research what it's about and not trust me or anyone else just because we are advertising it. It's the same thing as with the casino ads you see. You are not just gonna deposit money in one unless you have checked their history to make sure they don't have a tendency to scam their players.

And I would have suggest that for a project to be eligible for free advert, it has to be scrutinized and ensure its not a scam, and like 2 trusted members on the forum can be selected to do that job so that the work load not be much on you
I am surely not a scam hunter nor do I plan to spend my days inspecting everything there is. There are many people who like that sort of thing and are good at it and they can do it if they want.
4589  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coinkite ColdCard Mk4 Review on: July 19, 2022, 06:56:23 PM
The wallet arrived in a non-descript cardboard box, with no indication that it had anything to do with cryptocurrency, other than the return address.
This is a well-thought out move by them. The uglier and less conspicuous the box is, the better. I never liked the fact that my Ledger came in a box clearly stating it's a cryptocurrency wallet and mentioning Bitcoin and Ethereum in the process.

A USB-C cable is required to power up the device, which again is not included.
This is a pretty weird thing to do. You would expect that it has everything required for normal operation without forcing you to go out and buy your own cables. Huh

So I'll take this opportunity to note again that the ColdCard is bult with closed source firmware.
It's interesting that they are still claiming on their website that the source code is verifiable and open-source. Is it just the firmware that is closed-source or is everything else close-source?
4590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Create Taproot address for your Bitcoin on: July 19, 2022, 06:17:42 PM
What are differences between connecting and not connect Nano and unlocking the hardware wallet?
Husna QA already answered this. But let's say the Ledger Live servers were hacked and are displaying the hacker's receiving address in the software. If you don't have your Nano connected and you don't verify that the two addresses match (the one on your Nano's screen and the one on Ledger Live), you could be tricked into funding someone else's address. But if you connect your hardware wallet, you should clearly see that your device is displaying a different address than what is on the software. I have never heard about a case like that, but in theory it could be possible.

@Husna QA
Alright, so the address generation is the same on the mobile version as with the desktop version. They both allow the user to create a new receiving address without verifying it, but the software informs you about the dangers of doing that. Good, thanks!
4591  Other / Meta / Re: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 19, 2022, 05:59:51 PM
I have no idea how this would work in everyday forum life, but you could create poll and ask people to vote if they are interested in having something like this.
That's one possibility. That way I could check if the community is interested in advertising a service for free during times when they are not in signature/avatar campaigns or are generally not interested in taking part in paid promotions for whatever reasons.

Like with everything else, this could also be abused, so I would be very careful introducing this in correct way not allowing to advertise some suspicious projects or scams.
That danger is always there. New coins and tokens would definitely not be considered. The person would have to make a post and introduce their service/website and let Bitcointalk know how it works and what they are planning to create. With enough questions and answers, I think we would get a good understanding of what it is.

It can have beneficial if people are interested in discussion about specific Bitcoin related project, but I would include anything related with bitcointalk forum.
We can already see people are wearing advertisement for managers, and this can be applied for anything else including marketplace, for example if I want to sell or buy something.
Let's say if I want to buy or sell new laptop, smartphone or bitcoin asic miner, I could add that in my profile with link to specific topic.
Yeah, it doesn't even have to be a specific service or website, it can be an ad for the marketplace on Bitcointalk as the location for exchanging various coins or buying physical goods for Bitcoin. It might draw in some new people willing to trade, but it might also attract scammers and make things even worse.
4592  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Keycard bypass on: July 19, 2022, 09:50:36 AM
Old hardware wallets should not hold any seed words in them, and safest thing would be to smash them with hammer and recycle.
You are forgetting the most important part. Two things need to happen for this vulnerability to be exploited. The attacker needs physical access to the hardware wallet and that is something that you shouldn't allow at any circumstances. And the attacker needs to know exactly how to execute his attack. Even if someone knew how to get to mocacinno's HW.1, they most probably wouldn't know what to do with it unless he is targeted for that purpose exactly. There isn't a public tutorial about the attack (hopefully) or a software you fire up, click the 'hack it' button and the seed appears on screen.

No matter what hardware wallet you have and what security measures you have taken to protect its private keys (passphrase, multi-sig, SD cards, etc.), you should look to move your funds from it if someone stole it from you. That applies to Trezors, Ledgers, and the other bunch.
4593  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 19, 2022, 09:37:41 AM
I'd like to know which provider or method or algorithm any "legitimate" exchange is using to determine what's tainted or not.  If they're going to operate in this space shouldn't they at least be transparent with that?
They could be transparent about it and make everything public. But are they going to? I seriously doubt that. I even tried to get them to talk about it and maybe reveal something in What Do Centralized Exchanges Consider as Taint? But that didn't go so well. And that information is surely above the pay grade of a regular support agent.
4594  Other / Meta / Re: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 19, 2022, 09:28:33 AM
The way I see it, this doesn't have to be a forum generated service, and it's unlikely it will be. I can hardly see the admin creating room for a list of free advertisers on the forum.
I did message theymos about it and there is something he would be willing to do to help out if needed. I will quote his message here if he agrees with that. I PMed him and asked about it.

This can be purely community generated; As you said, a user can create a thread for this, maybe in services section and willing users can indicate.
Not everyone will be able to find that and it can get confusing for new forum members to go looking through the services section. How would they even know that someone would be willing to do that unless they hear the announcement somewhere or see a post about it on a different forum or social media, for example?

<Snip>
Great thread! Thanks for doing that. Here is the thing though. This is the first time I see it. And I am a regular and someone who uses Bitcointalk every day. Maybe if you hadn't linked to it, I still wouldn't have learned about it. Sure, it's just 3 days old, but still. I am not that active in that particular part of the forum, but I go there sometimes. Now, imagine if your thread was mentioned in a forum ad or the news field? People would discover it in greater numbers.
4595  Other / Meta / Re: What Would Be Your Reason to Leave Bitcointalk? on: July 19, 2022, 09:13:22 AM
My primary preference with signature campaigns, is no post requirement. If I don't come on for a month to post something, I'm still in the campaign. My posts still have value / benefit to the signature campaign none-the-less. There should be no forced activity provided the account is in good standing / quality posts previously posted. Anything otherwise leads to the above.
First of all, welcome back. Wink
You are not wrong about quality posts being quality posts yesterday, today, and tomorrow. However, they will get forgotten and buried under other posts unless you don't generate new ones of the same quality. It's like with advertisements on TV. It doesn't matter much if you had a good TV ad 2 years ago. Chances are that no one will remember it today when other ads are being shown to the people.
4596  Other / Meta / Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 18, 2022, 05:54:08 PM
I just thought of something interesting while bumping one of my threads.
Bitcointalk rents out advertising space, right? We also have a news field on top where important announcements are made. Usually, it's about the latest Bitcoin Core release.

How great would it be if the forum made available some room to advertise a thread with a list of users who would be interested in advertising (via signatures, avatars, or personal texts) Bitcoin services for free?! Obviously, I am not talking about the usual casinos and stuff like that. I am talking about new projects or software developed by individuals who don't have the resources to pay for advertising. We as a community could do that and not charge them anything.

If ad space is asking too much, I understand. How about if the news field mentioned that thread and had a link to it?
Wouldn't this also be a great way to maybe attract some new Bitcointalk users - the right kind? People creating something of value and looking to get more exposure. We would obviously have to advertise the fact that we are willing to advertise good Bitcoin community projects outside of this forum. Social media like Reddit, Discord, Twitter, and other online communities. For that, we will need the help of people using those sites who have good-standing accounts/profiles and are willing to help.

How would this work?

1. We create a thread (I can do that) with a simple question asking forum members if they are willing to advertise Bitcoin projects for free? The thread would point to this discussion. Users can then make themselves available and mention if they want to offer their signature space, avatars, and/or personal text for this purpose.
There are people here that aren't part of paid signature campaigns and some who are but don't need their avatars and/or text field.

2. A user comes along and introduces their idea on the forum. If people like it, they offer the person free advertising. In exchange, whatever service and/or project gets developed has to be announced on Bitcointalk as well, have its own thread here with support, and maybe some special promotions or deals for Bitcointalk members. That way, the person who gets free advertisement also gives something back to the community.

3. The last step would be to create the signature and avatar and come up with a decent personal text message. We have people who offer these services here. We just have to see how much they would want for their work and if they would be willing to do it for free. Something simple that doesn't take too much time.

Is this something we can create here to benefit the Bitcoin ecosystem? One problem I see here is that maybe there aren't that many projects that would meet our criteria to be advertised.
Obviously, comments and suggestions are welcome.
4597  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 18, 2022, 04:42:22 PM
I'm pretty sure there are millions of people who don't have the luxory of choosing a job that aligns with their personal morals.
You'll need a decent amount of FU-money to be picky about who's money to accept or not.
I think those are very lucky individuals indeed. Especially if you have a family to feed, you have to put that food on the table or they are not going to eat. It's easy when you are young and you still have your parents to fall back on when times get tough. But man can that change fast...

Someone mentioned billboards and that's a good example. Imagine you bought several and you needed to earn X amount every month to make a living, but also pay back your loan rate. Your idea is to advertise healthy food and beverages. Who do you think would be more likely to want to rent out your billboard? Coca Cola and Pepsi - the multibillion dollar businesses, or a small local company who sells natural spring water with great PH values? The same goes for food. McDonalds or that small local shop that sells organic food?

The idea of advertising healthy food could soon die when you realize that it's the bastards that will earn you the needed money, while the better choice can get your car or house repossessed by the bank. Embarrassed

I've updated the step-by-step guide above. Thanks for the suggestion.
Great, now it's complete. Smiley
One more thing popped to my mind while I was reading your post with the updated instructions. When you generate a new address on the desktop version of Ledger Live, you can actually do that even without connecting your Nano and verifying that the address is correct on the screen of your hardware wallet. This is obviously not a recommended thing to do and Ledger warns you about it if you try it. But, like I said, you can do it if you want. Have you tried to generate a new address on the Android version without connecting and unlocking your HW, and does the software allow it?
4599  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Plus alternatives? on: July 18, 2022, 03:57:39 PM
Especially for smaller amounts, it may really be simpler, cheaper and safer to leave them on the exchange. This may also depend on the exchange (size, reputation, ...) - some are more likely to pull off an exit scam than others.
That's also true. OP shouldn't just consider the withdrawal fees, but also what the minimum withdrawal amounts are on the exchanges where his coins are currently stored. I can't remember why I needed to use a Chinese exchange called Bibox. Must have been several years ago when I was getting rid of some altcoin. Anyways, that exchange is currently holding 25 USDT of mine. They have been there for years. Even if I wanted to pay whatever fees they would charge me, I can't touch those coins because their minimum USDT withdrawal amount is 40 via the TRC20 network, 50 USDT over Ethereum, and 60 for the OMNI layer. Another element to take into consideration unfortunately.
4600  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S Oled Screen Replacement on: July 18, 2022, 08:51:31 AM
Nice work. Too bad you didn't show how you reassembled the case back together after replacing the faulty display.

Can you compare the cost and shipping time (if you ordered it online) versus buying a new device?
This is the display he purchased. 1 item costs $1.50. Depending on which shipping method you select and where you are in the world, it can increase the total price quite a bit. If you want it shipped to Europe, the cost is an additional $24 to $90. A new Nano S was €59 the last time I checked.

I have some devices that need some repairs, but the delay in shipping speeds up the purchase of a new device as a better/fast option.
You still have to buy and ship the replacement display, so you haven't solved the shipping delays by trying to fix it manually. Unless you can get those screens locally. Btw, have you tried contacting the HW manufacturers regarding those issues you have? Ledger might even replace them for free depending on what the problem is and even if they are out of warranty.
