4581  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold Price Prediction & its impact on cryptocurrencies on: September 08, 2020, 01:49:58 AM
Gold is one of the few assets, which has given consistently good returns for the past 100 years or so.
Really, are you certain about that?  Have you taken inflation into consideration?  And anyway, I'd say that gold has been a lousy investment since 2011 when it peaked and then started its long, slow decline.  Interestingly enough, from 2011 to present, you could constantly read quotes like this:

Quote
World gold is predicted to fly to US $ 10,000 / troy ounce, by Dan Olivier, founder of Myrmikan Capital. This is a New York-based fund management company focused on gold research (Myrmikan Research) and fund manager Myrmikan Gold Fund.

....and articles hyping gold's value as a hedge against inflation, and all of the same arguments for gold that goldbugs make whether the market for gold is up or down.  For them, there's never a bad time to buy or a good time to sell.  You know why?  They want to sell you gold.

My advice would be to tune out anyone who makes outrageous predictions about the price of gold (or silver), because those predictions are usually made to keep the name of the person who made the prediction in the news, to keep themselves relevant.

That's why big investors like Warren Buffet finally decided to buy Gold.
That's highly unlikely, and I'm assuming you're not familiar with Buffett's investing style.  He actually invested in a mining company and not physical gold, and my guess is that he sees value in the business itself rather than being bullish on gold.
4582  Economy / Currency exchange / [H] 0.012 btc [N] PayPal at preev 1:1 on: September 08, 2020, 01:36:37 AM
As stated in the title, I have 0.012BTC and need PayPal funds at preev 1:1.  I can sell less than the full amount if you don't need that much.

I will not send first unless you have significant green trust or if I've done business with you before.

This will be a neutral feedback transaction.

Send me a PM if you're willing to help me out, as I might miss seeing this thread if you post here.

Local rule:  Please do not post here unless you're interested in doing this deal and are at least a Sr. Member or a member I've done business with before.  PayPal is very risky because of the chance of chargebacks, but I have never done this and won't ever.

Deal done with Legion13.  Locking thread now.
4583  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: September 07, 2020, 11:09:37 PM
As I can see, last month suchmoon distributed a huge amount of sMerits and became the leader of this TOP-200. Awesome! Cool
Yeah, suchmoon is the man/woman/whatever when it comes to merit generosity (for this month at least), and it's nice to see reports like this.  I don't think of it as a competition, but the higher I am on a monthly list of most generous merit-givers, the happier I am.  Why?  Because it means I'm probably doing a decent job as a merit source, a position I take pretty seriously as I'm a strong supporter of the merit system.

I like your strategy of not hoarding sMerits
I assume fillippone is a merit source, so there's no reason for him to ever hoard merits.  Don't know if it's the same with all the merit sources, but my sMerits get replenished very quickly--way faster than it was when I first got tapped to be a source.
4584  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 20% off on Ledger Wallets on: September 07, 2020, 09:08:15 PM
Does Ledger want to say that we should introduce our children to Bitcoin and buy hardware wallet for them?
That's probably not what they meant, but it's definitely not a bad idea depending on how old your children are.  I'm not sure what use kids have for bitcoin (probably not as a currency), but teaching them how to save and a little bit about investing is a good thing for all ages.

But dammit, it figures that I bought a Nano X less than a month and a half ago, at full price of course.  I forgot that they periodically offer discounts, and had I remembered I might have been patient enough to wait.  Ah well.

Thanks for posting the announcement anyway, OP.
4585  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] Wolfage.finance DEFI SCAM!! on: September 07, 2020, 08:55:55 PM
Good job finding this scam, OP.  Looks like yet another DeFi scam, and they're just going to keep coming.  Maybe when all is said and done, somebody could compile all the ICO and DeFi scams and see which had more of them--I'm too ignorant and lazy to do that, but I know there are some super-motivated members on the forum who'd love to take on a project like that.

And what the hell does this even mean:

Yield farming, liquidity mining, buybacks, and burning....I'm assuming that's all DeFi-speak.  I've been trying to learn the basics of DeFi, but all that is Greek to me.
4586  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: [H] PayPal [W] BTC or any Crypto on: September 07, 2020, 06:00:16 PM
scammer do not deal with this account.

I sent him $50 BTC for PayPal. After we chat on Telegram. After payment sent he said it should confirm. Then later he delete all our chats and since hasn't replied. I had done screenshots of our chats before. Anyone need proof that this is a scammer reply I will send screenshots
The two of you ought to start formal scam accusation threads against Economy if you're sure you've been scammed.  It's important to present evidence to prove you've been scammed, and it's a service to the community.

Loicson, the Scam Accusation section is here.  I'm pretty sure dozerz knows the drill.
4587  Economy / Economics / Re: In COVID-19 everyone needs motivation on: September 07, 2020, 05:25:50 PM
Maybe I'm not getting out as much as I used to, but I'm not seeing people who are demotivated/demoralized out there in the real world.  In fact, I'm starting to see people ignore social distancing guidelines and people not wearing face masks anymore.  In my area at least, people are sick and tired of being scared of a virus that's truly not as bad as it's being portrayed.

In some towns in my state, kids are going back to school and a lot of businesses have already opened up again.  I understand that the reaction to COVID-19 varies (certainly from country to country), but where in the world are there people still being devastated by this pandemic?  I ask that sincerely, since I haven't really been keeping up with news about COVID-19 even in my state, and I know absolutely nothing about how it's affecting other countries.
4588  Economy / Economics / Re: Can legalisation of Cannabis help US economy? on: September 07, 2020, 04:51:15 PM
Also is cbd still legal (with a max of 0.1-0.5% thc)?
CBD is definitely legal in my state, though I don't know about the maximum THC content can be, if any.  I don't live in a state where marijuana has been legalized.

I think the police in the US are extremely overmilitarised, they may as well not be separate institutions from what I can tell based on the amount of legal favours the police have there.
Yep, you're right about that--but luckily the youth of today are realizing this and are fighting back against the militarization of police (and cops in general) all across the country.  Though I don't agree with a lot of their demands (like complete defunding of the cops), it's great to see all the protests happening.

As to the topic, I do indeed think making cannabis legal can help the economy, and I wish it was legal in all 50 states with minimal restrictions, or at least not more restrictive than alcohol.  The tax revenue certainly could help the government fund all this money printing and stimulus and everything else they're doing to dig the country into a hole that our kids and grandkids are going to have to dig themselves out of.  And yeah, there's a possibility that it would create jobs, but I think the taxation would be the primary benefit.
4589  Economy / Economics / Re: 2020 Money is king Again Good news on: September 06, 2020, 11:17:38 PM
This is just wrong...
Most of what OP has been writing lately has been.

school education becomes also pointless.
That debate could take up a whole thread of its own, but that's one point on which I think you're wrong.  Education is never pointless or worthless, even though the cost of attending university has shot up in the past couple of decades.  I would concede that some college majors are pointless, but only from the perspective of using that major to get a job after graduation.  If I were just starting to attend university right now, there's no way in hell I'd pick a major like sociology, psychology, gender studies, or even math/physics unless I was intending on going on to graduate school.

Money is king for now because there is a crash in the investment sector all over the world
What crash are you referring to?  I was looking at the S&P 500 graph earlier, and it's now higher than it was pre-COVID-19.  The stock market is soaring, as are precious metals, and bitcoin is above $10k.  The flash crash we had because of the viral outbreak is a thing of the past at this point.
4590  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Where can I buy a hardware wallet? on: September 06, 2020, 09:40:17 PM
Go with Ledger mate, on their official website.  Don't be buying off amazon or ebay or the like, i've heard some horror stories with buying this type of hardware from market places.
Really?  What types of horror stories have you heard, exactly?  Can I assume that you mean that the devices had been tampered with?

I can understand not wanting to buy a HW wallet from eBay, but to the best of my knowledge if you bought a Ledger from Amazon, for example, it's Ledger that ships it.  I've bought two of them from Amazon so far and have hadn't had a security issue yet.

One of my friends had a bad experience with a wallet from amazon. They somehow hacked into it( maybe they already had something on it)  and stole all his funds. But fortunately, he just kept only 1 eth for testing the wallet on the first night and the incident happened.
What kind of wallet was it?  That's disturbing, assuming it's true--no offense.

In any case, there's nothing to be lost or gained by buying a HW from the official site except whatever perks you'd normally get if you bought it from Amazon or some other place.  Don't know if OP has his mind made up yet, but I'd go with a Ledger, either a Nano S or X.

Here is their website: https://www.ledger.com
I'm pretty sure you can even pay with bitcoin if you wanted to.  That might be the case with Trezor and other manufacturers as well, but I haven't checked.
4591  Economy / Economics / Re: Will India be more progressive in the coming years? on: September 06, 2020, 09:20:07 PM
Binance may ask you to promise you'll never use BTC mixer services in order to get access to your own money. Where is the progress?
I'm obviously a latecomer to this thread, but is the above statement true?  I hadn't heard of Binance imposing any such restrictions on its customers--but then again, I haven't been one of their customers in a long time and I don't use mixers anyway.  If that is indeed the case, I'm sure it's not something Binance has chosen to do; I'm sure governments hate mixers with a passion.

But anyway, none of that means there hasn't been and can't still be progress in cryptocurrency, not just in India but all over the world.  There are a lot of Indian members of the forum, but I wonder how many Indians own or use some type of crypto as a percentage of India's population.  I bet the figure is pretty low, and I'd also bet that there's a lot of room for progress.

The stone age perspective is in the eyes of a foreigner, there are around millions of cryptocurrency users registered in difference exchanges in India
I'd agree with that 100%, and it's a general truth that any given country is probably a lot different than how most foreigners perceive it to be, unless they've been there themselves.  I hear stories about Indians shitting in the streets, but having met some who've immigrated to the US, I've found them to be very intelligent and civilized.  I don't know much about their culture, but I don't think India is in the stone ages as far as crypto goes.
4592  Economy / Economics / Re: Why has the s&p500 already made a full recovery? on: September 06, 2020, 08:06:58 PM
I'm still thinking the stock market is overvalued, but I just took a look at the YTD chart for the S&P 500, and it's just barely above the point it was at in February when the COVID-19 situation started to negatively affect the stock market.  So at the moment I write this, that index has indeed made a complete recovery--and I still don't understand why it happened.

Not sure what the status of the next round of stimulus money is for US citizens, but I'd imagine that if everybody got another check for $1200, we'd see even more asset inflation--stocks primarily, but probably bitcoin and metals as well.

I didn't get a good vibe from the stock market this past week, though.  It seemed like there were more down days than up, though looking at the YTD chart it just looks like regular fluctuations, and I wouldn't bet there's a trend forming yet.  I've got my eyes peeled on pharmaceutical stocks, but I've been watching the market as a whole as well.  We'll see.  We're still in lunatic territory.
4593  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [DeFi SCAM] FinSwap - AI generated images on: September 06, 2020, 06:05:28 PM
I think I need to study more about the DeFi system since the sound is everywhere especially when it comes to the scam accusation section.
Yeah, I'm still learning about it slowly--I don't really have any interest in putting my money into any DeFi projects, so I haven't been very motivated to figure out how it all works.  But you're right, this section's recent posts for at least a month have been mostly scam DeFi projects, and this is exactly how it was a couple of years ago with ICOs.  Scammers are using the same tricks, too.

If the time comes when our very talented scam sniffers can't identify a fake or stolen photo, watch out.  I'm actually surprised these idiot scammers haven't figured out a way to fake their team photos without the possibility of getting caught.

Good catch, OP.  Fortunately they don't have a forum presence.
4594  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance's own yield farming and swap platform on: September 06, 2020, 04:51:46 PM
This is all to make a decentralized trading platform on the back of a centralized trading platform (Binance) if I'm not mistaken?  My understanding of DeFi isn't all that deep, but I sort of see what Binance is doing here, and I watched their BSwap explanation video.

It'll be interesting to see if things like this are successful or not.  I suspect at least with Binance, there will be a lot of their customers wanting to try it out, and there's a low chance that it's anything like a shit exchange like Yobit would offer, so that's a plus.

Not long ago, I said in a separate topic that top CEX are on a race to list the most DEFI tokens.
How many tokens would Binance need to create for the services you've listed?  I see they're creating BEL for the Launchpool trading pairs, but would there need to be more tokens created for other pairs?
4595  Other / Meta / Re: DT1-strength of 194 users in 68 weeks (weekly updates) on: September 05, 2020, 08:20:20 PM
Oh no, I'm losing power!  What will I ever do if I keep slippin' on down?

Lol, seriously....I'm far from a statistics geek, haven taken an intro course in college and not finding it to my liking, but I'm surprised there hasn't been more sharp variations in the data over the time frame shown, at least for the top 10 data.  The reason I'm surprised is probably because I'm a dumbass statistics non-geek.

And I guess this thread has been going on for a few months but this is the first time I'm seeing it.  It's odd to find myself in the top 10 "strongest" DT1 members.  Don't know how I ended up in that list, but I appreciate the trust members apparently have in me.
4596  Economy / Economics / Re: Rampant inflation, yet a steady exchange rate. on: September 05, 2020, 07:05:21 PM
Local items are bargained as hell over here, which you can observe at https://www.lonelyplanet.com/sudan/a/nar-gr/money-and-costs/355629 but both official and black market exchange rates are so high that prices are still several times higher than they should be.
That was an interesting article, and thanks for posting it.  I live in the US, and there's basically no bargaining/haggling about prices except for things like cars or if you're dealing with an individual as opposed to a business.

I don't quite understand currency trading, so I can't give you a good answer to your question, but I related to this statement from what you wrote in the OP:

Sudan has really been hit with bad, uncontrollable inflation that spirals up by two digit percentages every year. I should mention that the government thinks printing more money is going to solve the sky-high (at least for local residsnts) bread and gas prices.
You mentioned pizza, and my local pizza joint just raised their prices fairly significantly, so I think the effects of rampant money printing and/or COVID-19 are starting to show themselves.  And if you look at prices of things like stocks, bitcoin, precious metals, they're all sky high.  Everything is starting to get inflated, and I don't see any end in sight to this.
4597  Other / Meta / Re: Swiftcointalk.org? on: September 05, 2020, 05:11:45 PM
So the posts are posted first in swiftcointalk and then bitcointalk ?  If this is true, then these bitcointalk account should be banned for plagiarism.
However if admin / people are copying posts from bitcointalk to any other forum, there is nothing much we can do.
That is true.  The same situation happened when cryptotalk.org was just kicking off, and members there were doing all sorts of cross-posting between that forum and bitcointalk.  No surprise there, since cryptotalk attracted the crud that's stuck to the bottom of the barrel of bitcointalk for their membership, so the only things that were/are posted on cryptotalk are plagiarized or totally incoherent spam.

Never heard of swiftcointalk, but I bet there's going to be lots of cross-posting going on as well--examples of which have already been posted by OP.  Maybe some highly-motivated forum detectives can keep an eye on it.

I’m also considering it to be some sort of stunt to try to become present in search engine results by association to Bitcoin.
Yeah, that's certainly a possibility.
4598  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: LedgerX has started listing physically settled Bitcoin futures on: September 05, 2020, 02:17:00 PM
Quote
Since launching in 2017, LedgerX has cleared over 10 million options and swaps contracts.

I might be a complete dumbass, but why have I never heard of them?  I'm particularly surprised at my ignorance that they've been doing this for years since there was so much hype over Bakkt, which offers similar options contracts if I'm not mistaken.  Why was there so much anticipation about Bakkt's launch if LedgerX was around the whole time?  Again, this is probably just my ignorance of derivatives trading.  Is it because Bakkt was meant to cater to large institutional investors trading huge amounts of bitcoin, whereas LedgerX is smaller?

Also, their name is forever going to confuse me with the Ledger Nano X.  There's no corporate connection, I assume?
4599  Economy / Economics / Re: PornHub now accepts Bitcoin and Litecoin (News coincides with BTC decline?) on: September 05, 2020, 02:50:02 AM
With banks becoming more crypto currency integrated, it could naturally follow they would temporarily crash the price of bitcoin, for whatever reasons they've often decided to make life harder for pornstars and adult entertainers in the past.
So those who dumped on BTC have something to do with the porn industry?
Yeah, that's the part I don't get about that theory, that the banks crashed the price of bitcoin.  I don't see any reason for them to do that, nor do I think there's an easy way for them to manipulate the market that drastically without putting their own money at high risk.

So no, in this case I don't think the correlation is indicative of causation.  My guess as to why bitcoin fell a couple thousand dollars is that traders who made a profit from the price rise cashed out en mass.  I mean, come on.  We've seen these kinds of price movements many times before, and usually there's no obvious cause.

Also, I could swear Pornhub already accepted bitcoin.  Maybe it was some other porn service--my memory of such things isn't all that sharp since I detest pornography.
4600  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yobit Scam Accusation megathread. "Normal" modus operandi or shady practices? on: September 04, 2020, 11:54:41 PM
It's something ambiguis that hasn't any valid description on how this cal be made. From what i can understand, a user has to buy a virtual miner with his btc to mine an unknown token within the exchange itself.
That's almost exactly what I wrote in another thread about Yobit's new scheme:

All of this shit basically comes down to Yobit wanting you to put your money into a black box and wait for a profit to come out the other end.  If anyone can explain how this virtual miner can legitimately make any investor money, I'd love to hear an explanation, because what I just read in the OP sounded like some magical voodoo witchcraft moneymaking process that was dreamed up by minds that would put Enron's executives to shame.
And this is pretty much exactly the same crap that every "HYIP" or Ponzi puts forth: give us your money, we'll do something with it that you don't need to understand, and then we'll send you your profit.

I'm not sure if Yobit is moving toward an exit scam, but based on some of the new features they've been offering (like the Investbox), they're definitely becoming more shady.  If we knew anything about Yobit, i.e., where they're located, who owns it, etc., then people might have more faith in them, but they don't offer that information--and because they don't, that could be interpreted as them paving a clear path toward an exit scam.
