466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Daemon Problems on: August 17, 2014, 01:39:15 AM
Hello,
I am writing a automated scripts for people, and for both fluttercoin and dogecoin, sendfrom always returns an error and the script fails. I do the exact same call in the wallet, and it works, but when it is called from another source it doesn't work. It works for things like gettransaction, getinfo, listaccounts, stuff like that, but for sendfrom() it doesn't work. Reading the bitcoin API reference, it says that sendfrom requires an unlocked wallet, but the wallet doesn't have a password on it. Do I need to make a password and then at runtime do walletpassphrase? I know that for a blockchain rpc you need a second password and you need to do walletpassphrase(secondpassword) at runtime to be able to use locked calls.

If the wallet does not have a wallet password used to encrypt your wallet.dat (as opposed to an rpcpassword which all wallet clients need) then you do not need to use walletpassphrase.

I would check your input carefully on you 'sendfrom' call. I have experienced problems from various languages when the rpc input was not exactly what the wallet client was expecting. For example make sure the <amount> input is actually a float etc.

Does 'sendtoaddress' work?
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: August 15, 2014, 12:06:13 AM

Why would people want uno, with everything else that is out there? After you answer the question with, it is rare, and there is no inflation, what is left?

- Good developers.
- Good community that supports the coin.
- Good coin specs. balance of distribution / block reward / security etc.

Uno does what it says on the box. What more do you want?

Most coins are clones of bitcoin at their core and very few offer real innovation above and beyond gimmicks like pseudo anonymity etc. So for me what differentiates a good coin from a not so good coin at this stage in the game is the people behind it and the right specs both of which I would argue Uno has. Rarity is relative, and personally not a fundamental point in the value of Uno in my opinion.

As the altcoin landscape matures and more payment gateways emerge that reduce the barriers in using a coin like Uno for services and goods, then it will be just as useful / useable as any other altcoin out there. So again, the only thing that really differentiates any altcoin out there is simply the three points I outlined above.

Would be interested to hear your idea of what makes a coin worth wanting / using / owning?

468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Representing The Warehouse Group NZ, looking for information. on: August 12, 2014, 01:25:44 PM
Hi there,

My name is Joseph Gillette and I am doing some investigation on behalf of Torpedo7 LTD and The Warehouse Group - New Zealand LTD. We are considering developing an online coin similar to BitCoin, that can be used online as credit towards purchases on our NZ website, and on Amazon.com for internationl users. We are in the very early stages of marketing campaign development, for a campaign due to run half way through 2015.

At this stage I am simply introducing myself to this forum and community, and looking for any input, discussion, advice, and opinions on this idea. I will be writing a proposal to present to T7 and TWG in the next two weeks, and anything discussed here will likely be included.

Thanks, I look forward to discussing this with you all.

Regards,

Joseph Gillette

469  Economy / Services / Re: who can help my friend, whose coins are stolen by hacker,1 BTC bounty on: August 09, 2014, 08:26:35 AM
He probably installed malware which stole his private keys and uploaded it to someone who withdrew coins from the keys. I seriously doubt he would be able to recover the coins.
I wonder what would happen if the person who stole the coins came forward and gave them back. Would your friend still give him 1 btc for recovering them? (it's not me btw but I was just wondering)
Do you mean the hacker installed malware to steal the private keys. but my friend has set password for private keys.
anyway, 1 btc for recovering coins still.

The attacker may have installed a key stroke logger. He would then just need to wait until the password was entered and he would have your wallet and password.

It has been happening a lot lately it seems.

M$ windows is terrible in terms of security - strongly suggest he uses Ubuntu or another flavour of Linux and does not download and install software he does not trust.

470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Asics Technologoes - 6 THS Bitcoin Miner - First PICS! on: August 08, 2014, 02:35:52 AM
So anyone one had a batch one device delivered yet?

Nothing delivered yet as far as I know and to be honest I would be very surprised if this 'company' ever delivers anything.

Anyone know when the scrypt miners were / are supposed to ship?

Sirsmokesalot, a brief answer:

any Australian UNOvians? I will sell you a 10-oz bar of silver bullion for UNO (and to establish trust, I will accept payment on delivery. My Mob has Big Plans About All This.)

472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Different between Wallet Backup and Copy / Paste Wallet.dat on: August 07, 2014, 05:06:51 PM
Is there a difference between backing up the wallet or copy pasting it from the roaming folder?

No.

But I have read it is always a good idea to close your coin client before copying and pasting the wallet.dat from the roaming folder - just to reduce the risk of a corrupted wallet.dat.  Smiley
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Doge 28 ouch its below where I brought it before the teenage millonare pump on: August 07, 2014, 05:03:03 PM
Doge appears to be on a downward spiral.

This is what happens when you fork a coin and make it hyperinflationary. It's literally being mined to death.

What a failure of an idea that was.

You can say the same about all crypto coins atm

Not really, check out Unobtanium which seems to have a good balance.
474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 07, 2014, 03:21:39 PM
BitKee

or

Cryobit

both provide very durable fire / flood etc proof metal 'paper' wallets.

Use a BIP38 encrypted key. Keep one at home / office and one in a safety deposit box?
475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update Now to 0.9.5 wallet on: August 07, 2014, 02:31:10 PM
I'm still upset that Coinex ran away with 10 UNO of mine... Slowly trying to mine that amount back. :/

Sent you a couple to help get them back..  Smiley
476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Cold War has begun on: August 06, 2014, 02:47:43 PM
Math is for everyone. It's not a weapon to be manipulated by bullies. This is the opportunity to develop decentralized lending and commerce. It's also the time to develop tools that can be used by the lowliest and poorest amongst us. The endgame is that Bitcoin is power. Let's make sure that power is decentralized and accessible to all.

A very good point very well put.
477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CARBONCOIN: The Completely Carbon Neutral Cryptocurrency on: August 06, 2014, 02:24:34 PM
@Spoetnik

We can see you don't like this coin. We get it. You have said your bit, now please kindly move along like a gentleman so the rest of us that DO believe in this coin can carry on having a productive conversation.

YOU can say that but everyone here will agree with me 100% .

You are of course entitled to your opinion but I for one don't agree with you though... At all. 0%.

I personally think this coin has great prospects.

It has a good dev who is more dedicated than many devs I have seen around here. But there are others on board in terms of development and planning for the coin so its not a one man show (again, like many other coins around seem to be). Maybe axismundi could eloborate on who is working on this coin behind the scenes?

We have heard what you claim, that there are no trees, it won't make an impact anyway so why bother, its a scam etc etc. With all due respect your posts are beginning to sound the like rantings of a sociopath.

Whats more your claims can I'm sure be proven false anyway, with just a little effort. For a start it sounds like the only thing that will prove to you that the trees really exist is going there in person. I am sure axismundi would be happy to show you around.  Wink Or maybe there is another way to get a certificate or verification of control and progress through a UK environmental office or something. Outright screaming scam without a shred of proof over and over again based on nothing but your own beliefs or 'deductions' is worth nothing. On the other hand axismundi has made an effort to provide you and any other doubters with proof - which you immediately just discounted because you live near some places that have similar tree plantations?? How much proof would make you believe the plantations are real? Give the community a chance to prove your concerns wrong otherwise you are just being unreasonable.

You would need to plant a LOT of trees just to offset the electricity burned from the scrypt mining alone never mind going above that (the coin gimmick)
and even further from that we have as i pointed out long ago a huge massive hole in this gimmick, which is..
when the mining is scaled up larger and larger you would have to plant more and more tree's

If you had bothered keeping up with what is really going on with development you would know that Carboncoin scrypt mining will end in the not too distant future.

The whole Carboncoin network now, if most miners are usings asics, is probably in the thousands of watts only... Maximum! Nothing compared to some other coins.

Plus, POW mining will end soon anyway. So the little power, relatively speaking (compared to other coins), being used now will easily be offset after POW mining has ended I believe. I don't know the exact numbers on how many trees offset how much electricity used, maybe someone else with that knowledge could tell us how many trees would offset a 5000W network for example? If you can at any point prove otherwise, with the sums to back up your argument, then lets hear it.

I think the only coins that will survive and grow in time are coins that offer a unique angle or niche usage and I think Carboncoin has got that.

Anyhow having doubters is in some ways valuable as it allows the community to think about and address issues people may have now and in the future. It also probably makes the community more resolute to push forward and prove you wrong. It also bumps the thread...   Cheesy

Just be reasonable to people and most of the time people will be reasonable back. Address the issues you have with the coin without being a **** about it - that's all.

How does one address have 56K UNO?  That can't be a good thing~!

I would be very surprised if that was not Cryptsy's cold storage address.

So who will take LTC place?

Dogecoin.

I find this very doubtful.
