461  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: When botnet becomes self aware... What happens to miners? on: July 05, 2011, 02:18:24 PM
I don't see botnets as an issue, if they become too often there are ways to prevent them for pools (and if they begin using there own pools there could always be changes in the bitcoin client to prevent this).

What is killing mining for an average user is the hardcore users (obviously). I mean, the output from an average user in BTC no matter its worth is so ridicously low compared to someone that will own a whole mining server.

Dear god. I hope your trolling.

Will since it's my theory that botnet will soon become self aware and create its own pools with millions of zombie pcs, my question is simple.  Does the bitcoin system have anyway to prevent this?

And what happens when it overtakes everyone else % wise?

Really just curious, seems millions of machines (just cpus, I'm sure GPus will be targeted eventually) would easily surpass all current mining, and since there is lots of motivation for the botnet to sell instantly at any price massive amounts of coin.. well you get the idea.. thoughts?

lol. no.

so this is the new generation of ad/spyware?

No, it's a hidden miner that you can install on your computer if somebody else uses it.

Doh,

sorry my stupid misunderstanding.  Not enough coffie apparently.

I should have typed Bitcoin address NOT IP address.  Please insert bitcoin address instead of IP address in my above question while I un-insert my head from my....

thanks

Ah, yes you have to use the bitcoin address the client uses. And yes you have to us the random address.
471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin.exe not generating/processing any blocks on: July 02, 2011, 03:28:37 PM
Hey guys,

I am really new to Bitcoin and am having an issue on my Windows 7 x64 machine.

It has just hung saying at the bottom 8 connections and 134405 blocks.

Yesterday it was working fine, then my machine ran some updates and automatically rebooted itself over night and now it doesn't work.

I have added Bitcoin.exe to the exceptions list in Microsoft Security Essentials and allowed it through the Firewall but still the blocks do not go up.

Sorry but I don't really have an understanding of what the blocks actually mean but I guess if the number isn't going up then its not crunching any numbers so to speak.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
BTC_TRADER

Im not sure, but when the client is downloading blocks, it's not generating them, you need a separate miner for that.
472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet.dat question on: July 02, 2011, 03:26:44 PM

OK, I am trying to create a secure wallet.dat file.  So I am running Ubuntu and then I launch the bit client.  (Last night I managed to download all the current blocks chain ~134,000).  So back to the present I am now trying to make a secure wallet via Ubuntu b/c it is RAM.  So, question is where the hell is the wallet.dat file that I need to copy? Can I change it to anything I want or must I accept whatever IP address and wallet.dat file the client generates randomly?

Once I do this I will be mining via Windows.  So next time I launch the bit client I will cut and paste the random IP address bar correct?  And what about the wallet.dat file from this Windows/client launch? Just ignore it?

Thanks in advance

~/.bitcoin/wallet.dat - unix
C:\Users\<username>\.bitcoin\wallet.day - windows

And what IP address?

474  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help! MSI Afterburner freezes system! on: July 02, 2011, 07:21:54 AM
Had 1 5830 installed.  Everything was fine.  Overclocked Core to 960, and underclocked Memory to 334.  Was able to get 280 Mh/s.

Installed second 5830.  I am able to get them both mining, but I can no longer use Afterburner to underclock memory.  As soon as I change the memory clock settings (usually from 1000 to 500) and exit afterburner (so I could reopen it and lower it down to 334) my computer will just completely lock up.  Any Ideas?  Oh, BTW, these are not crossfired.

Also, I seem to be getting different hash speeds.  The top card will only give me only about 175 mh/s while the bottom one gives me the normal 240mh/s I'm used to getting with a non overclocked card.  Why is this?  Huh

Use TriXX. Im getting just over 315mh/s from my 5830 at 1015/300.
475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What does this mean (from Bitcoin wiki) on: July 02, 2011, 07:21:19 AM
On this page: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fallback_nodes

Quote
Connect to nodes
You can connect to these nodes with the -addnode=ip switch instead[...]

I realize that is a command but where do I type it? In the google searchbox? Do I enter it into my browser address bar? Jokes aside, does every major OS accept the same command? What platform is this command for? Why is it not obvious from the article what type of system that command is for?

All systems, it's a built in command for bitcoin/bitcoind so you can add more connections, most people won't need it.

Hi guys, I'm interested in buying 50 Bitcoins from anyone here for 0.8 Bitcoins each.

50 Bitcoins * 0.8 Bitcoins = 40 Bitcoins to you

If anybody is interested, just reply to this thread.

May I ask why?
478  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: is there a miner for the iphone or mobile device? on: July 01, 2011, 07:43:27 AM
seeing as it's on all the time....could be a drain on battery though.

Yes, it will drain the battery MASSIVELY. and it's not worth it, fullstop.
479  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: PUSHPOOL help on: July 01, 2011, 07:15:32 AM
Okay so I tried to install XAMPP but I found out that the installation only appears to come in 32bit.

Beside the point..

I did a complete install of PostgreSql and created the appropriate tables and inserted some test user data. I still get the message when running ./pushpoold -E:

Code:
[2011-07-01 05:42:24.263811] invalid database.engine

Am I missing something? I even updated my server.json file with the proper settings.

What I am confused about is how pushpoold can be built/compiled and yet require a database engine in place to do that process, but when I try to run pushpoold I get a message saying "invalid database.engine".

Can someone please help me?

It seems like I am hitting every possible problem when it comes to pushpoold setup.

How did you compile it?

I compiled it with:

Code:
./configure
make
make install
./pushpoold -E

do

Code:
./autogen.sh && ./configure && make && ./pushpoold -DE
