461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: September 01, 2016, 04:09:31 PM
Monero's anonymity is not 100% proven nor time-tested yet and Monero is harder to liquidate for cash.

I suspect most DNM vendors will continue to use Bitcoin, because Bitcoin has the network effect and illegal Bitcoins can be laundered over-the-counter cash through sites like localbitcoins.

http://www.coindesk.com/localbitcoins-users-criminal-charges-florida/

Cases like the above are probably the exception in terms of launderers being caught.  Whereas someone trying to unload Monero on the exchanges will probably get caught due to all the trails and investigations of coins on those exchanges.  No one in the world has heard of Monero, so you can't do cash launder deals like Bitcoin.  All these criminal vendors on the darknet have overhead and other expenses and thus non-liquid Monero does not help them to run their businesses.

As for someone like Roger Ver shilling for Monero - it's NOT the first alternate he has shilled for, he used to shill a lot for Ripple and also Applebytes, I think, and other alternates.

Are you a buyer or a seller?

What about the problem of some people about the "view key" feature. They said that a court order could make you show your transactions in the clear thru view key. Is this true? Why is that feature even there? It might become Monero's weakness.

If you have information, you can be compelled to reveal it by only and exactly that force which is able to compel such performance.  I fail to see in what sense the view key mechanism is a problem in such a scenario. The problem, in any such a case, is not the view key, but the fact that you retained the information.  If you wish to preclude being forced to reveal information, you must destroy it.

Against my better judgement, behaving like an addict, I filled up while it was trading a .001 range around the .500 retrace, so I don't see any need for it to go lower.  Now it's trading a .001 range around the .382 retrace, so the next "system 1” (not logical) step would be to jump to the .236 retrace and trade in a .001 range around .0165.

Or, moon.  Either way, I am cool with it.

I need to watch the latest episode of Mr. Robot.

Monero has more credible plot mechanism for destroying the debt-based indenture system IRL than does the fictional Mr. Robot.

I like to run a tor exit node on the same LAN, and connect to a VPN from that IP, without going through tor, then connect to tor through a VPN in an other country, which I paid for with Monero via XMR.to, and has a canary.

It is also easy to find Netgear routers with exploits and bounce off of a couple of those.  It's actually hard to see a downside to that. You can patch the vulnerability for them when you are done, to pay for it, if you like.  The main risk is that one might be a honeypot.
466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 31, 2016, 04:37:07 PM
Just saying why is this big whale continuing to bluff with big walls like this?

It's not a bluff, it's a bid.  Feel free to dump into it.  If you want to exit Monero with little slippage, now is the time.  It's a very nice liquidity offer.  Why criticize such a nice offer?
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 31, 2016, 05:30:54 AM
I am all in again.  50% retrace is another likely bottom, just like the 38.2 was.  Funny how hundreds of BTC sit just below the offer, and get ignored.  Then when they go away, it gets sold down.

How can I stop wasting time like this?  It's not like I don't have a ridiculous amount of actually useful things I could be doing instead. I guess it's better than race cars.
468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 31, 2016, 04:35:36 AM
ETC Classic and XMR same trend for now.

ive made good profit.

not bagholding anymore.

0.005 to 0.016 is still good on xxxBtc

lets wait and watch. if i have to rebuy later, i will. but for now, bagholding isnt a good thing (imho)

Call me back in 5 years.  Tell me of your victories and your defeats, and I will be happy to listen.  Just don't ask me for any Monero, when you do.

Unfortunately those who buy from illegal online pharmacies are often digging their own graves, too - that's part of the reason governments are cracking down on them.  The incidence of customers receiving medication that is at best ineffective and at worst actively dangerous seems to be quite high.

I can tell you that I have been filling prescriptions from India for 20 years.  I always buy goods advertised as being the products of manufacturers which have been FDA inspected and approved for the manufacture of generics for sale in the U.S. market.  I also always test the goods delivered.  In 20 years I received fraudulent goods on one occasion.  It was not hard to discern, because most medications have a distinctive packaging, taste, odor and texture.  For purified substances a melting point test is extremely easy and effective.  For custom syntheses in bulk, I spend 600$ and 300mg of material to get a broad range of NMR spectrographic results which are more than adequate to discriminate even analogs and isomers.  It is cheap enough so that if you get bum goods, you simply discard them, and order again from another vendor.

Yes, you can suicide by recklessness.  Don't do that.

Another bad thing you might do is act as a tax donkey for captured corrupt regulators and pharmaceutical price gougers extorting the infirm and elderly, and indeed the nations, into bankruptcy.  Don't do that either.  It would also be bad.

470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 30, 2016, 08:34:04 PM
Interesting, that there are 111 BTC virtually right on the bid, yet no one wants them.  They would rather keep their Monero.
471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 30, 2016, 07:36:21 PM
For comparison, it would roughly be the same as going to 0.001 now, and afterwards hitting parity with BTC.  Grin

Mercy, please.  You are making me ache with desire.

It would be remarkably easy to ding the price with a news hoax right now.  Premature though.

Monero is #21 on Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com).  You might want to vote for it.
472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 30, 2016, 07:27:02 PM
Is there any way to see the pending send transaction on MyMonero? That was one thing that was a bit frustrating... I couldn't see that there was anything that was trying to go through...

The most convenient way is with an explorer, e.g.  http://chainradar.com/xmr/txpool
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Monero replace Bitcoin soon? on: August 30, 2016, 07:24:21 PM
[The problem i was addressing was not how many transactions per second a coin can perform, but the total size of the blockchain after having to perform so many transactions along the years. If Monero ever achieved the number of transactions of the Bitcoin network, how many Gigabytes of space do you think it would be required in your hard disk to store the blockchain?

I will leave the calculations for yourself...as this is a comparison between Monero and Bitcoin.

Not enough to bother in any case. Bandwidth costs will bite before terabytes of spinning disk do.
474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 30, 2016, 04:22:52 PM
I wasn't aware you could get actual legit medications on DNMs. I may have to look into doing that.

It gets harder and harder every day to buy low-cost prescription medications with credit cards.  For payments that actually work, there's Monero.
475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 30, 2016, 04:20:58 PM
I'm trying to transfer some monero from MyMonero to Poloniex. I got the deposit address and payment ID from polo, copied and pasted it all into MyMonero and clicked the compelte button but nothing seemed to happen. My balance on MyMonero didn't go down and it's been 15 minutes and so far nothing has shown up on Polo... any idea what could've happened?

update on this one. It finally showed up on polo... it took 45 minutes though... is that common? I set the mix to just 3...

I've had transactions take 30-35 minutes before.  Most times its about 10 minutes.  Might have something to do with the traffic at Polo.

Keep in mind that your transactions stay in the memory pool while the mix segments are being matched.  Depending on traffic and the amounts in play it can take a while.
476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: XMR Monero price poll - what is XMR/BTC rate by Dec-31-2016 ?? on: August 30, 2016, 04:17:39 PM
There is positive attitude in crypto last 2 months in all coins , even the one that dont bring anything new, gained a lot. This positive attitude happened after BTC did not ATH after halving and ETH fiasko.
Monero gained 420% in last 2 weeks and 700% in last 2 months
Monero would be worth $10 sooner or latter without nay news about dark markets.  I personally dont expect that there will be any disappointment , but expect it will be widely used there.
But still the price of Monero will still swing up and down a lot in upcoming weeks.

I like your even tone, and consider your views quite temperate and sensible.  Respect.

You do not need any news to support Monero in the days of dark net markets. All you need is junkies buying their stuff with XMR + vendors holding at least a part of their Moneros without any news of volumes. News are for the speculators - I am glad Monero is taking some steps away from specualtion stage into the stage of real world adaption.
Sure some nervous speculators with tight margin longs might be dumping on Sept 1st but I encourage to look a little more ahead than just stare at one date. The minimum block reward is only a few steps ahead of us, sure some adaption for sure will take place from DNM, then also normal people will adapt Monero as their personal currency.

I like your long-term emphasis, and consider your views quite temperate and sensible.  Respect.  Which surprises me, frankly.  So happy that your troll days are gone!

I made my first darknet Monero purchase, an essential medicine for which I have a prescription. It was cheaper from India. Smooth as silk so far.  High rep vendor, FE, out of band, shipping from India to my country home...but mediated by AB.  1 Sept I will try the full AB system.

Good time to buy I think.

Looking for Litecoin market cap.  Can we do it?  Yes, we can.
479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Monero replace Bitcoin soon? on: August 30, 2016, 02:07:54 PM
Bitcoin scales much better than Monero anonimity tech. If you just look at the number of transactions that fit in 1 block in the monero chain and make the calculations of how many bytes are needed to perform 1 transaction you would know it. That's why they are pumping this coin as hell because it cannot achieve mass adoption in the long term and they know it  Cool.

Bloated chain

Corrective medicine for disinformation:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/3yrazw/what_is_moneros_theoretical_maximum_transaction/

Monero does not have the practical scaling limits that Bitcoin has.  Bring on the volume.  I mean, really, bring on the organic transaction volume, please!

Never can quite decide if you are a visionary or a very wishful dreamer.

It's a fine line.  I am relatively clever, and rather idiosyncratically creative, so as long as I retain discipline I can reason relatively well, and derive some confidence in surprising results.  Training sometimes permits me to produce principled derivations with credible intervals. I don't know what's going to happen, but I know what I want to happen is fairly close to what I predict will happen - close enough to derive a statistical edge.  That alignment is why I am in Monero.  The difference between the two is the degree of vision vs. dream.  As long as I can discriminate between the two, I'm okay.

I've been through enough market cycles of manic euphoria and depressive malaise to be partially immunized, at least, but not totally.  I kept buying through the long night, but I couldn't bring myself to post much then.  The malaise is demotivating, and I wouldn't want to spread it.  Spreading a little of the euphoria isn't too terribly bad, as long as it is balanced with prudent mitigating considerations. I don't usually post when I have a negative outlook since discouraging holders just hurts everyone, for the most part.  But if I don't post, that's only one possible reason, so don't infer that I have a negative outlook.  I'm not quite as uber as it may appear, but pretty close.

All of that is pretty self-involved.  But knowing your strengths and weaknesses is crucial to controlling for them, and hence to success.  In investing and trading alike: My worst weakness is emotion; my best strength is patience.  That is probably true for most people.  Vision undergirds patience.  Bullish AF.

In other news:  I am looking at you, litecoin.  There is no escape.
