461  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Secure Seed and Passphrase/PIN on: December 15, 2023, 04:03:01 AM
With the recent Ledger vulnerability zero day exploit that hit some unfortunate ledger users today using Dapps is a reminder that you have to be extra careful using this technology, and it really got me thinking to the roots of your Seed.

Long Term is the 12 word seed going to really always protect your funds?  is a 24 word seed secure with the rate of AI and Quantum advancements? Even with a passcode and a pin. And then what about a physical attack?

I also like to Sha passwords that can be split up to 16 different ways but that is too complex I feel, but much more secure and capable of many more words that can be used. What is the best practice here and what do you guys do for extra extra security???

You can't trust those ledger devices as far as you can throw them nowadays, especially after the stunts they have pulled. Their reputation is completely screwed and it is sad to see it happen but having this happen now on top of all of that? I'm not sure how much longer the company will last if they continue being so vulnerable and going against the best interests of their users.
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security is important in Bitcoin on: December 15, 2023, 03:14:56 AM
The reason why i outline that security is one the most  important thing or objective that a beginner in cryptocurrency journey should know as one of the major key is that , my friend who bought a Bitcoin with the savings does not know that trust wallet seed phrase which some people called "private key" is very important, he bought a Bitcoin that worth two thousand dollars and he never knew that his seed phrase have to keep in secret and he wrote his seed phrase on paper and drop it on his table after two months he started looking for the paper were he wrote his seed phrase where he login his trust wallet and two thousand worth of Bitcoin in his wallet is  not to be found, its there i noticed that security is highly important in Bitcoin and right now im of very observant and careful with any that concerns security mostly cryptocurrencies.i am a newbie and i will like to tell my fellow newbies to be security conscious of things that relates with Bitcoin because its a decentralized currency.

Not only secure storage in that sense but also online security. People are careless in what they do online, they click on links sent in phishy emails and don't have good data hygene when it comes to things like that. Most people don't really do much research also sadly which results in these lost funds etc. It is a shame, sorry for your friend but this is his own doing from sheer neglect.

Wow, I wonder how this will go for Ordinals and what will be the result of these actions. Certainly ordinals has sparked a bit of a following and many folks would be very sad if it was no more. I wonder how ordinals would do if this didn't happen, or even if it does....

Can we still apply to become a merit source? I have recently been given the suggestion to partake but it looks like the thread has gotten way off topic and maybe even some people are arguing but before I go spending all this time accumulating all of these merit worthy posts I want to be sure that I would still have a shot to be accepted if spots are still availible....
467  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coinme Inc -Coinstar’s Cryptocurrency Transactor - SCAM on: December 10, 2023, 02:13:55 AM

It would be cool, if both companies weren’t a rip off, and if CoinMe weren’t a bunch of scamming scumbags. They are no different than big banks, PayPal, Coinbase, phone and internet providers and on and on that are operating a corrupt system nearly unchecked. I’ll never forgot when Coinbase had its IPO, not Fuckn once did any news outlet mention the insane amount of customer fraud complaints. I of course knew they were scammers and they’ve scammed a multitude of my friends over the years. Not to mention nearly zero customer support within any reasonable time manner. I don’t think they even have phone support still, despite being worth billions. Same thing with CoinMe. They say they have customer phone support, but it appears to be a facad.  I read countless complaints on multiple outlets and it’s clear they are operating a shady and corrupt business.

While I agree the idea of BTC ATMs is nice, I could never suggest using one. No different than using Coinstar..absolute rip-off.  (Let me ask you, do most BTC ATMs force you to download their app and force you to send coins to their provided addresses?)

Moral of the story is the U.S. government is utterly corrupted, the SEC is a joke and doesn’t properly do their jobs (I’ve known this for the nearly 20 years of being an advisor).  It sickens me these companies aren’t held accountable to any sort of real degree.
[/quote]

It definitely would be cool if they were more customer facing/ helpful idk what that is about. I just know that when I was trying to sell into that account that all my effort was a waste because they stopped needing internet integrating to Coinstar who was already my old company's customer and that didn't help me out one bit lol.

Most BTMs do make you either sign up and use their wallet app and use that to get the KYC and license info and what not but some of them don't. A lot of them have promptings on their touchscreen ATMs to fill all that info in if the transactions are over the 5k limit until they need to be reported.

Yeah it is a real shame how corrupt this government has become. If only they would have been pumping all this relief funding into the american people for a change and not letting all of these foreigners in unchecked. I could go on and on but it would just piss me off just thinking about it lol
468  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold is up to new ATH, silver is up, BITCOIN IS BACK BABY!!! on: December 10, 2023, 02:07:27 AM
My man tread93, you sound like you're in a serious state of euphoria right now--ain't bull markets great?

I haven't heard anything about a new pandemic, but news tends to make its way very slowly into my realm and I'll have to check that out.  You mentioned silver rising, and as I own some that's always pleasant to see, but I think gold has gone up even more.  I can't remember the high back in 2011, but I think the price it's at now surpasses that.  Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Anyhow, glad to see you in such a good mood.  Let's just hope there's a trend here and bitcoin's rise isn't some sort of fluke.

Yes Sir! It is a great time to be alive and breathing and seeing all of this transpire right before our eyes. I always see more so serious posts on here so I thought it would be fun to shake things up a bit and add some enthusiasm. Gold is definitely passing silver rn in terms of profit but BTC trumps all of them for sure! Definitely think all this sudden movement has everything to do with the ETF but hey i'm not complaining about it.
469  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coinme Inc -Coinstar’s Cryptocurrency Transactor - SCAM on: December 07, 2023, 03:12:43 PM
One thing I will say right off the bat is that I think it is extremely cool that anyone in the proximity of a coinstar can go and scrounge up their change head to a walmart (assuming they already made their account and everything) throw the change in the bin and get a ticket voucher for redemption in bitcoin! I mean on a granular and microscopic level how much more incrememtelly can you buy BTC than that? While at the same time making it it the MOST accessible means for the average "no-coiner" to start out with their very first SATs.

Perhaps more so this is a better learning lesson for your children in new age money managment, account creation, and crypto in general. Perhaps starting maybe make them set up the account with your guidance, then have them check the couch cushions and cars and the whole house for coins get them their first BTC hardware wallet and redeem their coins to send them to their wallet (of course with a little allowance on top maybe to cover the fees lol). Just as an excercise alone I see this being a very educational opportunity right there.

Now lets get more into the technical side of things here. CoinStar and Coinme are two completely different entities that have been able to come together and partner up on this so seamlessly because CoinStar already had the infractrure of 30 thousand coin conversion machines globally with kiosks that had the ability (probably with some serious hardware upgrades) to install new software for them to be able to allow the use of this service.

Coinme started off as a regular Bitcoin ATM company that used a Genmega Satoshi One Machine and would deploy usually in gas stations or other high traffic areas, but that became very cumbersome and financially depleting so their IT team decided that it would be much easier to just implement new software on existing kiosks and find someone to partner up with because it would be much quicker and much more cost efficient to scale. I want to say Coinstar and Coinme have been partnered since 2019? Maybe 2018. Can't remember.

Once Coinme is fully deployed on all of Coinstar's machines Coinme should have the largest amount of "Bitcoin ATMs" I want to say across the entire globe. I'll check coinatmradar.com and coinmap.org for a more exact number on on which operator has the most amount of machines currently. But all in all you try managing 30k customer support machines for a not so seamless bitcoin sale for the coins lmao those customer service reps are probably at wits end! If they are getting huge fines for pumping shitcoins i'd say it was a failed money grab but hey at least they are testing some stuff out and shaking things up a bit. Of course their customer service team is going to be useless and they are going to try and have the upper hand on every transaction to maximize profit.

If only their transactions were locked in and real time and one single process, this is the difference between Coinme BTM and traditional Bitcoin ATMs. I would stand by my statement that I think its very cool that they have made this a reality and I think its a huge success on their end for being able to take probably super outdated machines and add Bitcoin to them and make them availible for the general public. At the time their partnership was annouced it was a very great day for the adoption and awareness of Bitcoin.

On another note I sure do love stopping by one of those CoinStar machines to check the reject bin and search for all kinds of coin treasures! Sometimes you might even get lucky and find yourself a silver coin, heck it is possible to even find a gold coin in one!!!!  Wink

OH YEAH!!!!! (Koolaid man) Bitcoin is coming back and it feels so good!  But not so good for those baby back B!t$#es who were too FUD bustered to HODL and buy some more.

Hang on to your butts!!! Put your seat belt on! Grab some popcorn and a drink because we have quite the show ahead of us folks!

We are headed into 2024 in less than 30 days now, headed for a new election, headed for a future that could ential WW3, the fall of USD, the rise of BTC as the new world reserve currency or a new world reserve currency?  Possibly a new fabricated pandemic to try and steal more freedoms away? Good Lord I hope not! But nobody knows, and one thing is for certain:We must remain vigilant and steady! Use this time to prepare and get a stronger footing because what is coming is going to shake the entire ecosystem

471  Economy / Economics / Re: Cracking the Code of Saving Money... on: December 06, 2023, 03:22:52 AM
question:
I am at the point in my life where I am racking my brain trying to figure this out. I am not rich I basically live paycheck to paycheck at this point

answer:
show them a good time and entertain them give them the best holidays and vacations

solution:
dont just randomly make entertainment, vacation decisions.. instead be strategic
look at last 3 years worth of bank statements and list all the "entertainment" "good times" "vacations"
list the costs per year. and actually design great experiences for less, plan it and budget it

even do extra steps if you like, things like set a yearly budget. then divide it by 52 for a weekly budget.
then set your kids household chores where they can earn upto their weekly budget(pocket money) for funstuff.. that way you give them control of how often they have fun time. obviously you keep the funds on a "fun stuff account" so they dont then waste it on candy. but atleast it get your kids involved in deciding how much they want fun stuff and teaches them about savings

be creative.
you dont need to go to the movies every month costing $42 for a family of 4
instead, dont just sitting on a sofa at home. make it a event at home. get some candy and popcorn and theme the night on the sofa into a experience, its way cheaper then the movies
instead look at local playparks(free swings, slides climbing frames)
instead of going to disneyworld look at other adventure parks

Agreed! These are all fantastic recommendations and many of which I have enployed but not regularly, except for the parks which I am very fond of, nature is also the best playground in my opinion and the kids love to learn cool things about it. Sadly even I can't escape the Disney desire or take it away from my children, Disney magic is contagious amongst young and old evidently no matter how much I hate it and hate their high godforsaken prices. I regrettably try to treat my family to that part once every 2 years if I can help it. I always root for SeaWorld though I've got to say I am actually quite a fan of that place.

The budgeting retroactively isn't a bad idea either and something I haven't really tracked historically on those specific items or cost items that have been outside of budget.

Being creative and enthusiastic is definitely free and I would argue leads to much more fun so thank you for the inspiration to reinvigorate and reinvent in this area!
472  Other / Meta / Re: I have no more merit left to give! on: December 06, 2023, 03:12:44 AM
So... what does that mean? you can apply become a merit source if you want, AFAIK the requirement you only need to report 10 unmerited posts and then wait for theymos to approve. Even you don't have merit you can still ask other merit sources to merit it [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source, I don't see any point for asking more merit when there are already few solutions out there.

Well I'd give you some merit but I simply cannot! That's a grand idea chap! Why do people become merit sources again? What is the benefit of this and why is it important? I have certainly heard about this and seen it some places but never knew why....
473  Other / Meta / I have no more merit left to give! on: December 06, 2023, 02:37:28 AM
That's right, I currently have a whopping 0 merit left to give  Grin

I have always tried to give credit where credit is due, and you can be sure that if I gave you merit you have earned it!

Eventually when I get more merit I think I will be much more selective in how I distribute it this next time only giving one at a time I think.

I think this is a nice reminder that is the prompting when you are to hand out merits:  " This is what determines your forum rank. You typically cannot lose this merit. You have 0 sendable merit (sMerit) which you can send to other people. There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future."

475  Economy / Economics / Re: How to be more effective working remotely. on: December 06, 2023, 02:23:29 AM
Working from home was the best thing that came out of covid. Honestly wfh is more of a luxury nowadays I feel like. If you work from home then you best be a top performer or have merit to be working from home otherwise get yourself back in that office and earn it. Working from home is lazy half assed work. If I wanted to I could work from my home do all my work in the morning skate by and go play a round of golf every day but that's dishonest to my work and would take away from future success that could otherwise be attained. Don't get me wrong Working from home is great but you have to be focused without distraction and actually be working lol
476  Economy / Economics / Re: Cracking the Code of Saving Money... on: December 05, 2023, 10:38:15 PM
It's honestly constantly on my mind. How do I provide for my family pay all of my bills and still show them a good time and entertain them give them the best holidays and vacations AND STILL manage to save money and invest. I am at the point in my life where I am racking my brain trying to figure this out. I am not rich I basically live paycheck to paycheck at this point but I know that if I work hard and still take chances on my business ventures that I will one day be successful. Even if right now up until this point I have had a heck of a lot of failures and few success but I am lucky to have time on my side and just left my 20s. I am honestly really putting a lot of faith in Bitcoin that's for sure!  Even if it has to be penny by penny and scraping for dollars always have your end goal and vision in mind.

I had no idea about this page or any of these gangs hahahahhaa. This gave me such a great laugh this evening. I guess if I was in any gang I would most definitely be in or associate myself within the collective of the collectibles section  Cool Having spent most of my time on this forum hovering that area and also making some great friends through that channel I would say its also one of the main reasons I even have an account here in the first place.

We as the citizens of planet earth promise you to milk every possible  signature revenue to the last milliseconds allowed and will not forfeit our rights. 😂
That comment of yours sent me rolling on the floor. But of course, milk all possibilities oh thee citizen of planet earth 😂

Me as well hahahaha this is so great. Milk whatever you can out of it for as long as possible. But the good thing about this is that there are plenty of campaigns that aren't mixers that are just gambling sites that can be used, like the one shown below   Cool

480  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 03, 2023, 09:27:10 PM
Theymos, I understand this decision had to be taken to save the forum from alot of accusations in aiding fraudulent activity in the future but what next are we going to ban? Will crypto non KYC casinos be next as they too can be used for mixing. The government are winning and there's nothing we can do about it. It's sad that one of the most rewarding service on the forum that pays their participants a decent amount of money is going away. I guess we'll return to the casinos taking over the forum. Mixers were associated with Bitcoin and it was nice seeing them around as it remembered us of privacy. I didn't use a mixer until I say an advert of one on the forum and currently promoting one because of their usefulness. It's just sad that we're killing privacy everyday.

Will it come to a time of KYC-mixers?

It sounds weird now but maybe in future, it will happen and with KYC, mixers will be allowed by laws. The point is to avoid criminals to use mixers, not good people who want privacy to use mixers.

Where's the privacy going to be when you have already submitted your kyc that can be access by hackers or the government whenever they want to. The point is the government wants to monitor everything so services that makes it difficult for them to know what is going on is a threat to them and they're try to eliminate them on time and not give them similar doubts they did to Bitcoin and see where Bitcoin is today (impossible to kill). I also see things heading the way of kyc-mixes as the government is okay with privacy that's under their supervision.

I think that this move is definitely in the best interest of all the users on here, and being affiliated with any such mixers is probably not the best to have shown anywhere publicaly if mixers like Sinbad are getting shut down. The coins mixers are definitely seen as a threat to the US Govt' because they have been linked many times to the laundering of money. Privacy is a non-renewable resource in this day and age and the day that we are purely in a cashless society will be a very grim day for everyone. It was a good run I suppose w/ the mixer campaigns! Definitely feeling for all the signature campaigners, it was a great way to make a little extra and talk about something we all liked and kept up with daily. This move won't stop the mixers though, they will continue on through other online forums and online advertisment efforts.

Also, I just read Ben's comment above on the Cyber Security Board and I couldn't agree more! People need to be aware of industryi standards in a way that relates to crypto preservation and anti-theft safety and security practices, especially here where we have so many newbs who have no clue, even higher ranked forum members.
