He made $20K USD, but he will not get those coins back for the same price..
462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spanish stone house with 6000m2 property for sale on BitMit. on: July 16, 2012, 10:46:22 PM
Here are some more pictures of the "finca" the seller sent to me.

It's so nice...

LOL!  that's a problem when 4 out of the 5 pictures of the house are instead of the woods.

If you would even call that a house.
463  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Payout Updates] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: July 16, 2012, 08:18:35 PM
Amir wrote that he's already being sued before BadBitcoin announced anything, and that he does not know what will happen next.
This post has been deleted in the meantime, but it is being quoted here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93074.msg1027601#msg1027601

I have physical health problems and need to see a doctor, but haven't had the time. On the forums I'm called a scammer and repeatedly insulted. Someone is trying to sue us. My bank gave me crap and held my money. I was borrowing cash from friends and spent 3 days eating bad muesli and cheap milk. I lost a lot of code by accident. I put a lot of work into the bitcoin.org clients page to make everything fairer, and now it will be removed, helping to recentralise bitcoin again. Electrum maybe has a security flaw and Macs have random problems. The conference needs the CFP announced soon, but I have to deal with Bitcoinica first. My health is suffering and im getting headaches. Right now is the first time I'm feeling depression, and I'm a little worried because I've never had it before but my father did. I emailed a health professional and they advised me to seek help. I've started sleeping very long, being very lethargic and apathetic. When the Bitcoinica thing first happened, I was considering suicide until Tihan said he had the funds.

Ok, that's a bit scary. Someone needs to get in touch with genjix, make sure he's physically ok.

It's a bad situation, but certainly not one worth ending yourself over. This too shall pass.

first person report said he was fine at the hack a thon or what not in germany but did not want to talk about bitcoinica...

also patrick showed up in #intersango but banned me right after...

Yea he looks really depressed. Especially when he frantically laughs when he says how easy it is to steal money.
464  Economy / Speculation / Re: Putting the first Bitcoin bubble into context on: July 16, 2012, 12:52:24 PM
This bubble was popped only because MTgox was hacked.

Which made lots of people think that Bitcoin was hacked...And made them scared.

What would have happened if that would not have happened...$48 $64 $200 $300?

No. There was already a drop to ~$8 before they got hacked.
465  Economy / Services / Re: [HIGH BANDWIDTH/THROUGHPUT] Site Stress Testing - Pay in bitcoins! on: July 15, 2012, 04:42:24 PM
I can confirm the legitimacy of pereiraex. I just had him stress test one of my sites and it went down immediately. Thanks.

My take on today's hack.

469  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: July 09, 2012, 05:46:59 PM
It could have something to do with the other markets, maybe it's converting GBP or EUR trades to USD or smth like that.
But yeah, it's not very clear what that's supposed to mean..
470  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: July 09, 2012, 08:02:02 AM
Eight consecutive weeks in the green! Unprecedented.

471  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trading Balance on: July 08, 2012, 07:09:50 PM
market cap:

9.4mil * $6.7 ~= $63mil

it's just a technical term..
472  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin from pennies to nickels and dimes now! on: July 08, 2012, 09:29:55 AM
I can see a virtual currency that improves bitcoin gaining preference over bitcoin in the future.
But I'd be very surprised to see a copy of bitcoin with some simple tweaks doing much more than bubbling a bit..
It's like making a copy of facebook and expecting everybody who's already on facebook to switch to your copy.
473  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin from pennies to nickels and dimes now! on: July 08, 2012, 09:09:05 AM
Okay guys, litecoin bubble in full effect! Keep spamming!
474  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trading Balance on: July 07, 2012, 07:16:36 PM
Its like this:
I buy 1BTC for 5 USD you sell 1 BTC for 4 USD the bitcoin market has increased in value 1 USD.
Thats what i added, and subtracted the opposite.
Its like a graph of USD going into Bitcoin market through MtGox

Still not getting it. Is the purple graph cumulative? If not, there must have been some days with negative value?
475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GPU Mine Litecoin & Make More BTC!! on: July 07, 2012, 06:10:24 PM
But LTC? If there were services for it, however, it'd be a perfect backup currency to BTC.

Under what circumstances would BTC need a backup?

Say merchant xyz wanted to accept crypto-currency.  Why would they choose LTC over BTC?

The reality is they wouldn't which is why LTC has no value.

much faster transaction confirmation

Faster transaction confirmation does not mean that it provides the same security level. It's like accepting bitcoin transactions after say 1 or 2 confirmations.

Also, the SCrypt that LTC uses is rather obscure and much less studied than SHA256 and may not be able to stand up to the scrutiny required for a 50+ million $ market cap like bitcoin.
476  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trading Balance on: July 07, 2012, 05:04:14 PM
So the purple graph means that each datapoint on the x-axis is the net buying volume of one of the last 330 days on mtgox? That seems a bit odd to me as every point is positive and surely there have been days that there was more selling than buying? So I must be misunderstanding your charts..
477  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Chrome Extension on: July 07, 2012, 11:19:31 AM
Does it recognize bitcoin addresses and make them clickable a la skype? I think bitcoin needs a plugin like that.
478  Economy / Speculation / Re: How to recognise a ponzi scheme on: July 06, 2012, 10:04:45 AM
Although I have nothing invested in BS&T, the whole ordeal worries me a bit. What if it turns out that clients don't get their funds back? In that case bitcoin will have to take another hit, and price will go down, which also hurts my bitcoin savings. I really hope we'll see some clarification soon..

Why would Bitcoin take another hit?
A few people get scammed. End of story. No big deal for Bitcoin.

I'd say bad publicity, and perhaps more people losing faith in the credibility of bitcoin.
479  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GPU Mine Litecoin & Make More BTC!! on: July 06, 2012, 10:02:47 AM
Bitcoin GPU Mining will be stopped eventually, because it will not be profitable any more at some point. If GPU miners start mining LTC instead of buying an ASIC, then LTC will rise. Though, there are no services yet, at least not any I know of, to spend litecoins. If this does not change then litecoin will not take off.

It is widely agreed that hashing power does not influence the price.
