There are no incentives to save anymore. Here is a short list of what I mean: - Inflation makes your savings worth less every year (as opposed to deflation on the gold standard)
- The government will cover your retirement in the form of Social Security so no need to save for retirement. Or so people believe.
- Low interest rates entice people to acquire lots of loans.
- Bankruptcy laws make it easy for someone to acquire lots of debt and then default on them and walk away clean
- No financial education in public schools

A lot has to do with media attention. It has brought a lot of new people into the BTC market. At least this is one of many reasons.

Although I'm a huge fan of Bitcoin, I was never really a fan of gold, and have usually advised people against buying it. Partly because of the shady overpriced pushers, costly storage, and difficulty of selling it later, and mostly due to studies that show that over the very long term, your gold investments will gain you maybe a 3% return. I believe stocks are a much better alternative.
If you see gold as an investment, then yes, there are many, better, alternatives to gold. However if you view gold as money, or a hedge against inflation, economic, and political turmoil, then you will see it makes a wonderful insurance policy. Gold (and silver). With this view, gold is seen as a protection for your investments, not an investment in and of itself. Storage is only costly if you have someone else hold onto it for you. There really is no difficulty in selling it though, and I'm not really sure what you mean by shady overpriced pushers. |

We are on Amazon, however Amazon does not allow us to sell gold or silver products because it is against their policy. We should be listing individual John Galt rounds back on eBay shortly! That's ridiculous. What a stupid rule. Although there must be some way-if you're a big company or something, because I've bought silver on Amazon. But I've often wondered why the selection on there is so bad. It is ridiculous, and we just found out a few weeks ago. We were selling silver on Amazon for several months and then they banned our listing saying that it was against policy. You will find companies/individuals selling gold/silver on Amazon, but once Amazon notices the listing the products get banned. |
