4621  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: no trace of BTC funds in my electrum wallet on: April 17, 2018, 09:15:17 AM
Your address: https://blockchain.info/address/1QYBTf2tDgyzc6GA8w4ycef7HjWoPgk6j

shows a balance of just over 0.25 BTC... received in 4 transactions

*0.025 BTC

OP, can you check the 'Address'-tab (relatively at the top of electrum) and check wether the address appears in there.
You might also try to use the console-tab (if not visible: 'View' -> 'Show Console') and type in: listunspent().

This should show 'all' of your UTXO's (in your case: you should see address 1QYBTf2tDgyzc6GA8w4ycef7HjWoPgk6j with your balance).
What is the output of the command?

You can also try to type ismine("1QYBTf2tDgyzc6GA8w4ycef7HjWoPgk6j"). This should return true.
4622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any other Operating systems with a built-in Crypto wallet? on: April 17, 2018, 09:02:56 AM
Imagine using a LIVE CD with a critical vulnerability in Electrum!
You mean like Tails?[1] Roll Eyes

Another question is wether this is somehow important?
As far as i know tails is designed to stay offline. If this is correct and people use tails how it is supposed to be used, i can't seem to find an attack vector which makes use of the found vulnerability.

This, of course, is no excuse for using an old (unpatched) version. But this still does not expose one to a higher risk.

If you can think of any attack vector which might exploit this vulnerability (in any way), i'd be happy being enlighten.
4623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help me to understand private key of crypto currency on: April 17, 2018, 08:55:18 AM
Private keys are not stored in the blockchain, they are only used to *validate* your transaction.

Private keys are used to sign transactions.
Public keys are used to verify the signature.

Think like you are storing MD5 or SHA1 encrypted passwords for login system of a website.

MD5 and SHA are hash functions.
Hash functions are 'one-way functions'. This means it is relatively easy to calculate a hash, but *impossible* to calculate the input out from the hash.

Encryption on the other hand has to work in both directions (encrypting and decrypting).
4624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin connection with easybitcoin.php on: April 17, 2018, 08:50:34 AM
What problem exactly drives you crazy?

Did you 'open' the port? Note: When configuring the firewall on your router you need to configure port forwarding.
'Opening' ports mostly allows incoming connections to your router. This is not the same as forwarding (Forwarding = destination ports from packet header are being forwarded to the destination machine).

I think the majority of router does not distinguish between opening and forwarding. But there still quite a few which do.
4625  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: no trace of BTC funds in my electrum wallet on: April 17, 2018, 08:40:45 AM
The first step would be to check your address in a blockexplorer [1] and check if the transaction has been confirmed already ('X confirmations' or 'unconfirmed').
If it has been confirmed, your coins have arrived.

It mostly is a network/sync issue. Do you see the dot at the lower right corner? Is it red (disconnected) or green (connected)?

What version of electrum are you using? The current one is 3.1.2, you should update electrum if you don't have the current version.

4626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Invalid BTG balance display in my LEDGER NANO S on: April 17, 2018, 08:31:34 AM
Not one of the addresses created by the LEDGER NANO S is defined in https://btgexp.com/search
Error! : Search found no results.AYss5m4msLCEggqbscRnm34tkS1Bc4Npgv
Where are you getting that address from? Is it the address you gave the pool or is it just an addresses from the "sign message" drop down list in Ledger Wallet?

this address was created by "Ledger". But at the time of creation he was different. It was the first I received and entered into the pool.
Yesterday I tried to synchronize several times through the application reset.
Each time a different balance. Then less then more, then back less
Yesterday, transactions appeared before April 15, but not all. the next synchronization was lost.

What HCP meaned (i think) is where did you get the address from? Did you click on 'receive' in your ledger application?
Did you also confirm the address on your nano s?

It is kind of strange that the balance is changing each time you reset the application data.
It seems like the ledger server are working to capacity at the moment. Quite a few people have network/syncing issues currently.

Edit: Obviously i was too slow Cheesy At least i was correctly interpreting HCP's question  Tongue
4627  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Warning] Ledger Manager chrome app on: April 16, 2018, 07:15:44 AM
I have also reported this application. Thats a very strange behaviour of the chrome web store.
I seem to not be able to find ANY application from ledger through the search function.

The faked ledger manager application has 120+ downloads (which is pretty small compared to 600k+). I am not aware of anyone claiming his funds got stolen from a nano s.
So it might be a 'failed' malicious version. But still, this has to be removed as soon as possible.
4628  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: wallet.dat encrypt by multiple users question on: April 16, 2018, 07:03:04 AM
I always use default official window wallet qt program.

Note:
There is no official bitcoin wallet. Bitcoin is not owned by a company/authority/anyone.
Bitcoin is an open source project. Anyone can create wallets.

Bitcoin Core is a development team which focuses on improving the bitcoin protocol. They are not deciding it themselves.
It takes the majority of the community to make changes to the network.

Core has released (and is improving) their full node wallet, which is considered the best full node wallet at this moment (this can change in the future).

While it is definetely safe (regarding security + privacy) to use the core wallet, it is important to keep in mind that it is not an 'official bitcoin wallet'.
4629  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my brief summary on Proof of Work on: April 16, 2018, 06:56:22 AM
..or change the PoW to PoS, which theoretically fishish with the high centralization..

I don't think a switch to PoS would decrease the centralization.

This would only 'move' the centralization from people (with lots of money) who buy miner and electricity to people (with also tons of money) who stake their coins.
It might have a small influence on who is mining 'more' blocks. But overall this is not a 'solution' to the 'centralization problem'.

4630  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Crypto custody for large amounts - need advice on: April 16, 2018, 06:51:21 AM
BitGo and BitPay seem to be the most reputable in this sector.

But if you are accepting bitcoin via a 3rd party you are still relying on their service.

The most secured (and trustless) alternative would be to create multisig addresses yourself and use a full node (hosted on either a dedicated server or VPS)
for receiving/checking transactions.

While i understand it is the most convenient way to accept crypto payments via a 3rd party service, it basically destroys the whole purpose of crypto currencies:
To be your own bank and to not having to trust anyone when using/accepting payments.
4631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file, synched up, can't send BTC out. on: April 16, 2018, 06:38:56 AM
I'm doing the manual import thing now from the wallet, although now I'm getting crashes from the wallet itself.
I started the sync of another wallet on another PC and hope to switch the wallet to it once it finishes in about a week. LOL

The crashes might be due to your wallet.dat being an old version (wallet also from 2016?).
You might try to start core with the -upgradewallet command.
But make sure to make a backup of your wallet.dat before messing around with it!

I doubt it will work on another PC. But instead of downloading/syncing the whole blockchain from scratch again, you might also try to just move the blockfiles
to your new PC. This will reduce the time it takes, since core then only needs to verify those blocks, instead of downloading them all over again.

Do they have any updated repositories for the block chain still on the net?

I am not aware of such a repository. But moving the files manually to your second PC is the better/faster way.
4632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Storing 5 years in a wallet? on: April 16, 2018, 06:30:11 AM
Ladies and gentlemen, I have already written a subject for the purpose of restoring the porflain after deleting all the data from the telephone.  This is why I will ask you here

In order to extract bitcoin, I first have to dump all the physical memory from my phone and then run applications to recover lost data on it? ( it was years ago and app from google store - bitcoin wallet / galaxy-s4)
If so, which application will be safe? or maybe i should do it manually according to a guidebook?

Restoring lost data from flash memory cells (which are used in your mobile phone) is quite a tough task, but NOT impossible.

The first thing you should do is to make a forensic correct backup of your phone (better: two). You should only try to recover files from an image, never on the original device.
Connect your mobile (USB-debugging mode) to your PC and make a 1-to-1 copy (e.g. with linux DD).

Afterwards you can start a forensic recovery software to retreive your data (or at least try to).

But years after deleting a wallet and using the phone.. the chances of recovering any useful data are almost zero.

There are quite a few softwares available to recover deleted data.
This Master thesis deals with forensic tools for android phones. It might be helpful, but i still don't see a big chance in suceeding.
4633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why doesn´t the wallet.dat backup work? How to get the walet.dat to work? on: April 16, 2018, 06:20:23 AM
After copying the old wallet.dat into your data directory (See HCP's post; above this one), make sure to run core with the -reindex command.
The easiest way would be to run core from the command line:

In Windows:

  • Press WIN-key + R
  • Into the Run-command type: cmd
  • Navigate to your core folder (where your .exe is; not the datadir) with cd "PATH_TO_CORE"
  • Run core witht he startup flag: bitcoind.exe -reindex (replace 'bitcoind.exe' with the name of your executable if different)
4634  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Any other Operating systems with a built-in Crypto wallet? on: April 16, 2018, 06:07:09 AM
For about 1 second... until the scammers simply start distributing Linux images with scam wallets built in that users don't even bother checking digital signatures of because "it was included with the OS so must be safe, right?"

Personally, I feel like this is a "Bad Idea"™... You're forcing other users to download something they may not want/use which increases bloat in distribution images... and it creates another possible attack vector because, as you yourself state, "People are just lazy by nature"...

I agree with your statement that it is definetely a bad idea to include infrequently used software into an OS image.

But i think it is definetely less probable for an attacker to distribute linux images with malicious wallets.
1) I think people who do know how to install/use a linux distribution won't just download any unknown distribution just because it has a wallet included.
2) If an attacker would upload a malicious distribution, he probably won't just install a scam wallet, but will open a backdoor for full control.
4635  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Anyone have the full database of bitcoin core upload on cloud servers ? on: April 16, 2018, 06:00:23 AM
You can use RAID 0 where the data is divided between 2 drives, effectively almost doubling the speed if you have 2 drives, and even faster if you add more. There's zero redundancy though; if one drive fails, all of your files are toast. It depends on what type of RAID you do.

You are right, whenever i hear/read about RAID i am automatically thinking about RAID 3/5/7.
The fact that RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) 0 does not store data redundantly seems a bit odd to me.  Grin
4636  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Bitcoin not showing on my ledger S on: April 15, 2018, 12:38:43 PM
For the future:
If the transaction shows as confirmed on several block explorers, then it most probable went through without a problem.
And if you confirm the address on your nano s, you can be sure the private-/public- keypair has been generated by your device.

Syncing-/Network issues (with ledger server) can happen from time to time. Nothing to worry about.
4637  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Help Me Recover My Bitcoins. on: April 15, 2018, 12:33:49 PM
A misspelled word would be easily spotted. It obviously didn't upgrade properly.

I don't think it would be spotted that easily.
While its true that a simple error would be found fast, a (almost identical) word would not always attract attention that fast.
In fact, if both words are part of the wordlist, it depends on the checksum (a part of the last word) wether it can be spotted or not.

They tell you to upgrade again if your coins are not in the wallet in the trouble shooting guide. Then go to support if that fails to work.

Upgrading won't help when OP already can access his trezor and can't access his coins/addresses in ANY wallet with his seed.
4638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Old wallet.dat file, synched up, can't send BTC out. on: April 15, 2018, 12:20:58 PM
The wallet has a bunch of addresses on it, including the one which got some solo mining blocks but I'm not sure which one that was since. In the transaction history it just shows the incoming mined btc but not the address.

When did you solo mine? Are you sure you were mining bitcoins?
Solo mining is kind of impossible for a few years now.

I'd just recommend trying out electrum, even on a offline mode if needed. You can figure out the situation within few minutes, and spend the funds (if such funds exist anymore on the address).

Using electrum on an offline machine won't help since electrum relies on an internet connection to get the status of transactions/addresses of the wallet.
Without an internet connection you won't be able to look up wether funds are available.
4639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Assistance Sought on: April 15, 2018, 12:16:09 PM
How Stored :- Not Known
Source of transfer :- IRC
Bitcoin Address :- No
Wallet.dat file :- No
S/w used :- Bitcoin Core

Bitcoins can't be transferred via IRC.
Did he send you private keys via IRC?

Without giving someone your address and without receiving a wallet file it is pretty unusual how you could have received BTC's.

Did you install and sync bitcoin core when he gave/send you BTC ?

Pl Note :- I was asked to install a software which turned a normal hard drive to a nano ledger s.

This is not possible.
No software can achieve the functionality of a hardware wallet.
What exactly did the software do? Encrypting a file?
4640  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: User-friendly Ledger Nano S? Not! on: April 13, 2018, 05:17:42 PM
In the best case user now can have up to 18 different wallets on Ledger device, and I read somewhere that this can be achieved by adding apps in alphabetical order.

Sorting in alphabetical order does increase the speed of the nano s 'booting'.
It does not increase the amount of apps you can store on the device.

The actual amount is dependend on the types of coin wallets you install onto your nano s.

Each fork of BTC, for example, does now use the same code inside the nano s. This means 'similar' applications do need less space than completely different coins.

I do not know can the number of apps in device increase in the future

I think there is not much more room to grow since the memory itself is limited (with a good reason: to avoid injection of malicious code).
