4621  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 10, 2011, 01:33:12 AM
Server seems down?  Getting problems communicating with RPC.

Ability to remove a worker would be a good thing, as well.

Pool was down for about 3 minutes while I added some extra information to the shares database to speed up the calculations.  Should be back up and running, and now the website's update each minute runs significantly faster and reducing the load of the JSON script.

There may be a few more RPC communication errors tonight, but they will be very short term (< 10 seconds).

Wow,  Your quick on the improvements.

Working full blast on features now that the basic function is nailed down.  JSON API should be coming up in the next 2 hours giving JSON access to all the stats currently visible on the site.
4623  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 10, 2011, 12:49:50 AM
Nice, thanks and fast work!  Smiley

It would also be nice to have a total down at the bottom of the columns and a MH/s column added as well.  Email/SMS notification of a stuck miner would be a good addition as well.

Worker speeds are now listed (estimated over a 15 minute window, updated once per minute), and the total for all workers is shown.
4624  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 10, 2011, 12:23:41 AM
Email/SMS notification of a stuck miner would be a good addition as well.

This is a big reason why I use the pools I use. Email is fine, my phone can take care of the rest.

I will get that implemented this weekend.  I was avoiding collecting emails in registration since I know how paranoid some members of our community are Smiley.  I will add an email option for password recovery and also notifications of workers that haven't sent a share within a given time frame.  For SMS, I will have to do some research (I hate SMS personally, so I never experimented with web interfaces to SMS).
4625  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 10, 2011, 12:08:02 AM
Giving you 2 GH... but I really need a way to reset the mining data of my miners.  An extra field for round shares that I can reset, in addition to the total would be good.  It's helpful to keep an eye on which miner(s) might be throttling for some reason.

Suggestion noted and implemented.  There is now a third column for shares & stales since reset.

I'll join you for a few blocks and contribute 200 Mh/s.

I like your site.  Looks nice.

Thank you very much.  My self esteem is now inflated regarding my poor graphic design skills Smiley.
4626  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Post your: Measured wattage of your mining rig! on: May 09, 2011, 11:17:36 PM
Higher.  Much, much higher.  I've paid over $400 a month last summer without all these computers running.  California electricity rates are robbery.  I have PG&E coming to my house on Friday to make a determination on switching me to commercial rates which will cut my bill in half.

Uh, what's the scoop on qualifying for that? I'd mine more if I could get my rates switched.

Person I spoke with on the phone said that it rarely is allowed, because a significant portion of the house must be for the business use (they said 70%, but it didn't sound official).  I'm in a 1800 sq. ft. house, 4 bedrooms.  Over half my living room is consumed by my used game store (www.eleuthria.com).  My entire dining room is now a server room housing all of the rigs.  2 bedrooms are used for the business (1 is sorted storage & packing, 1 is received packages in storage).

Hopefully it qualifies.  I'm having a friend come over to pretend to be an employee working for my game store while PG&E is here, just to add to the business image.

Wow thanks for posting guys.

@ eleuthria.  Man you sure are a hardcore miner!  Thats a lot of rigs!

Your pumping out about 4.5 G/hash per second!  Amazing!!!

You must have a very high power bill too.  $400 a month?

Well something like a list of all the previous rounds on the main page with their duration, the person that solved it and some other data about the rounds.
Oh and maybe make the btcguild logo clickable so that you get redirected to the homepage or your account ?

Block Statistics contains the previous round information (duration, total shares, block number, confirmations), including a link to the block on block explorer.  I will add who found it to the list tonight.

BTC Guild logo is now clickable (can't believe I missed that).  Once I get home I will also be adding a privacy checkbox to the My Account page to hide your username from the Hall of Fame and previous round information.  If checked, it will show your user ID# instead of name.
4629  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 09, 2011, 10:38:54 PM
Proportional or Score?

The pool is currently operating on proportional:  Your Shares / Total Shares this round = Your % of the reward.  This could change if I am given a strong argument to switch to a score system.  If it does change, it will be at the start of a new round, to avoid any strange distribution percentages from the switch.
4630  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 09, 2011, 10:37:21 PM
I'm going to let it run for tonight, 370Mhash/s. Maybe I'll switch from bitcoinpool to this Wink

Will you add global stats ? Can't seem to find such an page anywhere on it.
What stats do you have in mind, and what do you mean by global (pool as a whole, other pool comparison, network stats like bitcoincharts)?  I currently show at the top of the page total pool hash rate, worker count, share count, and round duration.
4631  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 09, 2011, 10:17:08 PM
Good to see more mining pools  Smiley

I was actually inspired to make it when Deepbit crossed the 400 gH/sec mark (while Slush was still running).  While I trust Tycho and slush, it just didn't' feel right to see a single pool with such a massive amount of the network involved.  There's a few other small pools, but the interfaces seemed either too limited, or too...computer geeky (coming from a major programming nerd that is a compliment, I swear!).

But I'm getting a fair number of "job finished, miner is idle" errors :/
I assume that's what you've said is now fixed ? I'll see later if it gets better
After fixing the hashing password bug, I attached a debugger to the pool software to keep an eye on it in these first few hours of public use.  I want to be able to fix any problems quickly now while it's easy to pinpoint which user caused the problem.  Please keep an eye on the idle warnings, and send me a message or post again if they keep happening after another 2 hours.
4632  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fee Mining Pool (Long polling, JSON API) on: May 09, 2011, 09:49:49 PM
Signed up and mining now with my hd5770. So far it is working good.

Had some trouble registering. The sign-up form doesn't seem to like numbers in the username.

Thank you for the info, that problem has been fixed.  And for the few people who tried it earlier and got some idle/communication errors, that problem has been fixed.  The default pool software assumed worker passwords would be sent in the clear.  I added a few lines to hash the passwords to be compared to the database, which caused a bug when sending a blank password.  No crashes since.

4634  Bitcoin / Pools / [~1000 GH/sec] BTC Guild - 0% Fee Pool, LP, SSL, Full Precision, and More on: May 09, 2011, 08:14:02 PM
BTC Guild - http://www.btcguild.com

Advantages
  • Pure PPS - We pay a fixed rate per share, period.  There is no buffer, there is no limit based on good/bad luck.  If your share is valid, your account is credited for the value of that share within 10 seconds.
  • Long-polling support, reducing the number of stale shares if your miner supports it.
  • SSL security - Access the website via https://www.btcguild.com to protect your information from being sent in plaintext.
  • Full precision payouts - Get all 8 decimals of your balance transferred when you request a payout.
  • On-demand payouts.  Once a block has been confirmed, your reward can be paid out at any time by clicking the 'Pay Me Now' button on your account page (must be at least 0.10 balance).
  • No invalid blocks - PPS Guild is Pure PPS.  You get paid a fixed rate per share, regardless of if the block itself is invalid.

BTC Guild is a Pure Pay-per-Share pool.  This means that every valid share you submit is always worth a fixed amount, based on the current bitcoin difficulty.  Each share is worth (1 / difficulty) * 47.5.  It is multiplied by 47.5 instead of 50 because we charge a 5% fee for Pure PPS.  This is because in a Pure PPS model, you assume no risk, and the only variance you will have is your luck on finding shares.  We assume all the risk of block finding variance, and will purchase additional BTC to meet our liabilities if we have not found enough blocks to make payouts.

The pool has been tested on poclbm. phoenix, and diablo miners.  To point your miner at the pool, you can use the following (example for poclbm):
poclbm.exe -d1 --host=btcguild.com --port=8332 --user=[username]_[workername] --pass=[anything]

4635  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: "Block Head" How many? on: May 08, 2011, 06:39:21 AM
My combined hashrate just crossed 5 gHash/sec today.  The 5 in one day on Deepbit was pure luck.  I think all 5 of them were within a 6 hour window.  I know 3 of them were within 1 hour, I found 3 of the 4 blocks found that hour at Deepbit.  I believe I was around 4 gH/s at the time.
4636  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: "Block Head" How many? on: May 08, 2011, 06:23:43 AM
I found 5 blocks a few days ago on deepbit, and another 4 on Slush last week.  Not sure how many before that (I made new accounts once I started keeping track of expenses/revenue for my taxes).

Currently looking into setting up either a private or public (0%, donation supported) pool with one of the earlier server boxes I built.  Haven't found one yet in my test pool, but I've only got half my machines working in it while my others stick to a reliable pool.
4637  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~350 Gh/s Mining Pool] INSTANT PAYOUT,+1% with LP! +0.8% for no failed blocks! on: May 06, 2011, 06:07:01 AM
Well I'm just one unlucky person.  I was slaving away coding my own pool this evening, after moving my miners to your pool about 14 hours ago Tycho.  And what do I see before going to sleep?

19:22:02, 20:12:37, and 20:18:36 (GMT -7) blocks were found by me.  That's right.  There were 4 blocks discovered by Deepbit.net between 19:22 and 20:22, and 3 of them were from my miners.  I bet if I finish making my own pool I'll never find one again!
4638  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: May 05, 2011, 09:04:48 PM
Ah...Photobucket finally came back up. Here's what I have to share:

I'm operating off of the assumption that the dust improves my hashrate by 10-20%...this may be flawed logic, though... Tongue

Holy... You know, just because we are called miners doesn't mean we have to actually be in a mine...

I've seen things....things...much much worse than what was pictured above.  I strongly believe that I exterminated a new intelligent race that formed inside the computer a friend brought to me after it stopped working.
4639  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: 50 BTC if you write a complete guide on GPU mining on Ubuntu using ATI on: May 05, 2011, 07:55:15 PM
I'm pretty sure VirtualBox creates a virtual video card adapter.  This means that ATI's drivers, tools, and SDK won't do you any good, because as far as the OS is concerned, you're not using an ATI video card.
4640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: How many bitcoins do you CURRENTLY have? on: May 05, 2011, 06:46:53 PM
I'm generating around 50/day, but I'm selling off every 200-300 to ensure that my hardware is all paid off rather than holding it for speculation.  Depending on difficulty jumps, all my 5 rigs should be paid for in about 5 weeks.

I'm still unsure about what the difficulty change will be AFTER this one due to the OCN thread causing a big spike in computing power during this difficulty, which is already starting to die down.  The damage has already been done by it regarding the next jump, but I have a feeling the following jump will be minor (< 5%), or even a drop.
