Buying coins is almost always wrong if you have cheap power.
Buying gear is almost always correct if you have cheap power. ...
Well from a simplistic BTC view, you'll probably never buy a miner that will mine more BTC than it cost to buy. I purchase most of my miners with one year free credit. And I can’t buy BTC on one year free credit. But yea if you can’t buy miners properly (credit or cash) buy and hold btc is okay.In fact I recently cut a deal for a ‘free’ miner. I take 2 from the dealer. He gives me one The other I let him mine for zero power cost for one year. Thus no btc out of pocket. no cash out of pocket. Can only do this with cheap power. better yet he repairs gear. So I get good repairs. Our expansion issues are cooling. Still waiting on the liquid coolers from octominer they are now sixty nine days late.

There's been numerous heated discussions comparing solar power and grid power. One thing that I have never seen being discussed is using solar panels without batteries, and mining only during sunlight, and not grid tied.
Ideally, everything would work great when there is full sunlight and the solar panels are producing electricity at full capacity.
The part that I don't know is what might happen in the morning or evening when the sun is low in the sky and the solar panels are only generating a fraction of its capacity.
Just for argument's sake, let's say the mining rig is an Antminer S1 drawing 300-watts of power at 12VDC and two 12V 300-watt solar panels providing 600-watts of power during peak sunlight.
My question is, what will happen in the morning and evening when the solar panels are only producing, say, 100-watts of power? Will the Antminer S1 work at a much lower hash rate? Or could it be damaged due to insufficient power? What if during the day, dark clouds came rolling in and the power fluctuates between 50-watts and 400-watts?
Is there some kind of pre-built device or protection circuit that can regulate the power to at least 300-watts? I suppose a small battery can be added just to normalize fluctuations so that the regulator won't cycle the power too frequently.
We purchased two separate invertors that claimed to be able to take the power from solar panels and discharge a stable 12 volts. We used 6x 200 watt panels which should generate 1200 watts at 12 volts enough to run two s9 boards in a unit. The power supply loads on the specialty inverters were not stable. So we needed to put in a battery to get it to be stable. used a few thousand in gear . a big fail. As the inverter did not do what is was advertised to do. If the load was light bulbs it would fire up. if the load was a psu it would not fire.

I just checked the historic Bitcoin chart on BuyBitcoinWorldwide and it gives me the following data: 4th April 2010: no data (it starts on 19th July, 2010). I just found this for 2010: How Much was 1 Bitcoin Worth in 2010? Bitcoin's price never topped $1 in 2010! Its highest price for the year was just $0.39! 24th April 2011: $1.70 However, not sure if this price is accurate. So either $1.65 or $1.70 for easter 2011. and no known price for easter 2010. close we have is bitcoin pizza day for a spring 2010 price I think. may 22 , 2010 10,000 coins for 1 pizza. I could get a pizza for 10 dollars in 2011 so 1/10 of a cent would be the may 22, 2010 price. https://www.investopedia.com/news/bitcoin-pizza-day-celebrating-20-million-pizza-order/Now the guy who got 10000 coins on may 22 could have sold them on July 9 for 900 usd. as btc was 9 cents in July on mt gox. he would end up regretting that if it is what he did.

I'm not really sure I see any reason to mod the s9. With apw5 and braiins os+ the s9 is way quieter than my r4 by running the stock fans on auto and the power >1000. I watch television in a room with 2 s9 at 700w and auto fans running >20%. The AFB1212SH fans actually run at a higher rpm and seem louder to my ears at the same settings as stock fans.
The afb1212sh fan pulls a lot less power IIRC

Probably fed up of all the merit farming shit posters
I think so. The possibility is unlimited. There are a bunch of Legendary Shit posters who are trying to jump over people's heads without realizing that they are doing shit. Writes useless nonsense without any context. He should learn from me. I Ignored a bunch of Shit posters. Let's say he is fine as long as he is not seeing people getting bored at the house and posting shit because they have nothing to do. There is a saying; "A lazy mind is the devil's factory." ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) What are you trying to say? Maybe it's just me but i can't make much sense out of your rant after reading it more then ten times (not joking). WO is a place for hanging out with fellow Bitcoiners and sharing interests, not only Bitcoin-related. It's the exception to the rule. This thread is more like a never ending family gathering, imo. I never got so much colorful conversation out of one thread anywhere else on the internet, and i've been online for roughly 30 years now. Maybe you're confusing the term "shitpost" with something else? IDK, maybe it's just me having a less than optimal day, not getting the meaning of your message. You know if you know. But if you didn't get it, You are soft-hearted. I know the term "Shitpost." Believe me; I know that. They already got it and are scratching their balls and thinking about what to write now. I was picking my nose till I read your post.😉

Any one replace the fans for something not as loud? Or replace with a Noctua (RPM isn't as much) and even taking a hashboard or two out? Apartment mining for me the less noise the better.
there are multiple threads on low powered s9 builds. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5160194.0that thread may help

I am considering running a high stake 0.100 fee solo run
10 players times 0.100 is 1 btc in gives us about a 1 in seven shot at a block.
I do realize 0.100 is more serious outlay.
But I thought I would post and see if there any willing to try this.
I will join it.
Okay philipma1957 jimjam123 eight more Just a bump to see if there are any other ballers > I know 0.100 btc is a big amount. But I do like the idea of renting 10 x 0.10 = 1 btc worth of hash.

Baby boomers are getting old and retiring thus the rate drop. 1946 now 77 1947 now 76 1948 now 75 1949 now 74 1950 now 73 1951 now 72 1952 now 71 1953 now 70 1954 now 69 1955 now 68 1956 now 67 1957 now 66. this june i qualify for full social security if i retire. these numbers will continue until 1964 are 70 or 2033 so downward pressure will not end for 10 years. The amount of people born 1946 to 1964 is huge and they dropped out a lot shrinking participation. Take a 66 year old this june he can go to full social security. Or work at Shoprite union job checking groceries. I know four or five checkers that stopped the last few years they would have worked longer but with covid-19 and being able to quite they did. Some quit in 2020 and did nothing (or off books) till they can retire. A lot of people are doing this.
