Bitcoin != Bitcoin mining

4682  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Difficulty and BTC/day forecast at current difficulty rate increase on: June 24, 2011, 08:20:04 PM
I never understood the argument for that card, considering the increases in difficulty favours the card that gives the most hash power per USD when initially bought.

/fixed Wink

In the short run (and with increasing difficulty), Hashes per USD on the price tag is THE only thing to look at.

In the longer run (and with constant or falling difficulty), Hashes per Watt used is the dominant measurement.

If you could get a device that costs only 50 USD, uses 3000 Watt per hour and does 1000 MH/s, it would be a better investment currently than FPGAs that cost 500 USD, use 20 Watts and do a few hundred MHashes/sec.

I really should plot out some numbers, as noone did it yet publicly... but that could get quite depressing for 6990 owners/buyers! Wink

If you're not interested in buying GTFO of my thread. My prices are competitive and final.
...and only useful vs. buying BTC directly, if BTC would be above 20 USD - as he calculated. Roll Eyes

Taking into consideration that:
* shipping from India probably takes quite some time (and is probably expensive too! [EDIT: Checked, he claims it only costs 20 USD])
* a lot of this hardware is of little/no use
* this would make your pool of owned hardware even more diverse (more maintenance necessary, no spare parts)
* the only really useful stuff I can see there are 9 GPUs (and maybe some extenders, if you even use these)
* stuff might break during shipping - and you have very low chances to get reimbursed
* DISHWARA shares are now severely overpriced, as they were valued/calculated initially at 0.7 USD/piece (when 1 BTC was 0.7 USD)

I would strongly advise against this bad deal.

9 GPUs are worth (max!) ~1700USD --> ~100BTC --> ~135 shares

All in all:
If DISHWARA wants to buy shares, he could/should just sell his equipment (either for BTC or INR), get BTC and buy shares as everyone else. If he wants to pay in "hardware", the extra effort for shipping (+ time lost with shipping) and the fact that if something breaks the manufacturer most likely won't reimburse you should be taken into consideration and calculation. [EDIT: I usually buy and sell used hardware for "new_price * 0.75" as a rule of thumb]
In the end he would probably end up with less than if he puts up that stuff back together and sells 1 gaming PC + a few GPUs on eBay and buys BTC + shares for that money then.

If I create a GLBSE "company", valuate it at 1000 BTC, BTC prices shoot up ~25 times later - would you still give me shares worth 1000 BTC for Hardware that is only 1/25th worth of 1000 BTC?
In this case (as Dishwara didn't cash out right at the start), you're suggesting "only" about 10 times overpay, but still. Shocked
4685  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Difficulty and BTC/day forecast at current difficulty rate increase on: June 24, 2011, 07:22:53 PM
Just get the price up then. Roll Eyes

If you offer to sell lower than what's profitable for you, it's your own fault.

Aaand:

If someone can afford selling lower than you can, it's also your problem. Welcome to the free market.

You can only verify an IP address by "going there yourself", like a real address. Only because it shows up on google mps or whatever doesn't mean it's really MY address

That just means you can't know for sure, but there must be ways to be more sure about it.

I wrote about the only way, and I meant it.

Sorry, but to make Bitcoin less anonymous, recording IP addresses in Transactions + Blocks are not the way to go.
4687  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Businesses giving 1% on: June 21, 2011, 09:20:41 PM
Maybe put this 1% up for bounties that YOU would deem necessary/beneficial for Bitcoin.

I like the developers, but I don't think they would code any faster/better if I just throw them a few coins. Also I doubt they would implement the stuff I'd like to see as a first priority. If I pay/motivate someone else to create a patch though, I guess they are more than happy to pull this in the main client or whatever.
4688  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Interrest for a new pool backend? on: June 21, 2011, 09:17:17 PM
I'd love to see it done in Python, but I guess there would be something to learn from your code too, so I'm all for you putting it on Github! Wink

Wo hast du die 8 Monate her, btw?
4691  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Transaction fees should be raised to 1 or 10. on: June 21, 2011, 06:36:33 PM
Just convince more than 50% of miners and make them 51%-attack the network if someone mines blocks that don't confirm with these rules.

This decision is not up to the developers imho.
4692  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Request:I need USB portable versions of Bitcoin client and GUIminer on: June 21, 2011, 06:32:23 PM
1.5 GH/s would take on average ("on average" means: if you mine 1000 blocks at the current difficulty, it would likely take this much time * 1000, not that you'd see a blocka fter this much time!) at current difficulty (which will most likely increase!) 1 month.
4693  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Tech Talk on: June 21, 2011, 06:16:26 PM
You DID read + understand https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Scalability - right?
4694  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Request:I need USB portable versions of Bitcoin client and GUIminer on: June 21, 2011, 06:00:51 PM
3.I will have at least 250BTC at my disposal by the end of this experiment.
...only if you buy 250 BTC Wink

Also I don't see the reason why you want to do this as an "experiment". Mining really works, but even if you had 10 PCs with 4 top-notch GPUs each at hand it's not very likely that you'd see ANY block pop up.
4695  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: bitmunchies.com internationalen schifffahrt on: June 21, 2011, 05:48:35 PM
Guess what, I'll do it for free as well! Wink

The title: "Bitmunchies.com international shipping" for example should be rather "bitmunchies.com: Internationaler Versand möglich" than "international ship transport" Wink

So, here we go (the original text would be great to have to guess less and translate more btw.)

Title: "bitmunchies.com: Internationaler Versand jetzt möglich"

Hallo,

[I think you should include a link to your store in an ad Wink ]

Translated with http://translate.google.com/.  I apologize for any translation mistakes.
Maybe just offer half a Bitcoin or so for a translation before using this "service" again - or just post in english, your page is in english anyways... Wink

Nice site though!

4698  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: wallet.dat automatisch online sichern ? on: June 21, 2011, 04:14:56 PM

Geringe Investitionen, keine Buchhaltung, kein (Behörden-)Zirkus...

Smiley
4700  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Theoretically a branch of Bitcoin including IP addresses in the blocks on: June 21, 2011, 03:39:40 PM
By the way:
Many ISPs assign new IP adresses every 24 hours to their users, mobile internet users are often behind an ISP proxy and if someone's IP address is part of transactions or accounts, that would seriously hinder/harm people that have a mobile phone for example...

Sorry, but in the end IP addresses are in no way useful for what you would like to see. (No judgement from me about your motives/ideas)
