Let's be honest here. Is this the real price for being accepted? Offering the wife to Foxpup?

If so, pls count me in Smiley

You can not live alone in these harsh times, young padawan. Join the gang, you must! Let the Force conduct you!
4703  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 40 weeks rented out] on: December 30, 2019, 08:54:45 PM
Damn! If you are not, maybe we can bribe together the gang leader to accept us both? Smiley
4704  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 40 weeks rented out] on: December 30, 2019, 08:31:36 PM
How do you apply for the Foxup cycling club?
See:
The rules are you have to cycle an obscene amount of merit between yourself and other members of the merit/trust gang that exists in the conspiracy theory that cryptohunter's all worked up about

This gang is the same one mentioned by wolwoo? I remember oeleo and suchmoon were in that gang as well Smiley He said the gang is strong!

Can I bribe a gang leader to join in? Smiley

4706  Other / Meta / Re: Reducing (removing) airdropped merits for those who didn't earn 1 single merit on: December 30, 2019, 05:47:18 PM
This is correct. It wasn't intended for a long run.
However, this wasn't the subject proposed in OP, let's not derail...
4707  Other / Meta / Re: Reducing (removing) airdropped merits for those who didn't earn 1 single merit on: December 30, 2019, 04:48:15 PM
I knew there is no point in hoarding merits.

I intended to use them in the Romanian board, in a merit giveaway topic. However, as far as I saw, the Romanian board is almost completely inactive, therefore I'll use the sMerits I have in the international boards.

We will see soon, young padawan. Sooooon! Smiley

4709  Other / Off-topic / Re: What gifts do you want to give to your family on 2020 - WISHES - Free Merit on: December 30, 2019, 06:38:24 AM
My family already gave me two very special gifts in 2019: my wife and I bought a flat with a credit on 20 years and 5 days later my son was born!

In 2020 I'd like to succeed that in 1 year of credit to pay for 5 years and thus to reduce the time from 20 to 15 years. I already paid for 2.5 years in advance in the first 6 months of credit, therefore I'm confident that I'll be able to pay another 2.5 years in advance, in the next 6 months!

Besides, I'll try to be the best father in the world and help my wife to take care of our son and be together with him!
4710  Other / Off-topic / Re: FREE MERITS!!! *Forum's New Year's resolution* on: December 29, 2019, 07:18:59 PM
I am happy I managed to obtain the Full Member rank in 2019! I'll do my best to reach Senior when the activity will allow me (in April 2020); of course, hoping I will earn the merits needed as well.

I will try to revitalize somehow the Romanian board, which has so few posts lately. I don't know how I can do that, because even 2 merits giveaways I organized there didn't determine users to become active. But I will keep trying.

In the international sections (mostly Beginners & Help) I will keep try to raise awareness about the anarchic concepts behind crypto and about the history of the early crypto anarchists - the Cypherpunks, which are the founding fathers of this phenomena (for example, articles like this one).
4711  Other / Meta / Re: [Merits Giveaway]2019 in review. A big thanks to many forum users. on: December 28, 2019, 11:05:42 PM

Am I wrong or Paraipan disappeared with a good amount of forum funds, that have been moved after his death?
I know coinlocket$ digged into this story a little bit.

You are right indeed. See more info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1577411.0. Also, here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5135232.msg50739072#msg50739072.

However, besides being a forum user, paraipan was also a Romanian. I wanted to say a word for him also as being a conational.
4712  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Post Your 2019 Success Stories Here on: December 28, 2019, 10:30:01 PM
I managed to stop myself from selling any BTC this year, after I did not sell any in 2018 as well. I did not sell at 20.000$, nor after.

As I already mentioned here and here, I take this occasion to thank to the following:

- DdmrDdmr, for being so supportive and for his outstanding skills in statistics
- Nullius, which was a true rara avis and unfortunately vanished, taking with him all the wisdom he shared here for a short time
- LoyceV, another outstanding statistician, with many useful projects
- xtraelv, who was mentioned only once so far, but his historical posts are a true piece of art
- Mitchell, nakamura12 and yogg, who gave me my first three merits
- theymos and the staff, for their hard work to maintain the forum
- satoshi and sirius, for creating and managing the forum in the early days
- Hal and Paraipan, who will never be forgotten and I hope their souls found peace.

We all need to rest from time to time... Maybe he just wanted to stay with his family these days, wich is very understandable. Or maybe he just needed to rest a few days Smiley

Any news on this thread? Theymos or other admins...?
4716  Other / Beginners & Help / The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto - We all should read it on: December 26, 2019, 08:51:01 PM
Following bitmover's topic, another must read article is The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto, written by Tim May.

The essay was first made public in 1988 (4 years earlier than Eric Hughes' article A Cypherpunk Manifesto), at Crypto '88 conference and it depicts the extraordinary vision of Tim May over some aspects which became real 30 years later.

The manuscript details how technology based on cryptography  and reputation systems will change the world as we know it, including governs, taxes or economic control:

"Computer technology is on the verge of providing the ability for individuals and groups to communicate and interact with each other in a totally anonymous manner. Two persons may exchange messages, conduct business, and negotiate electronic contracts without ever knowing the True Name, or legal identity, of the other. Interactions over networks will be untraceable, via extensive re- routing of encrypted packets and tamper-proof boxes which implement cryptographic protocols with nearly perfect assurance against any tampering. Reputations will be of central importance, far more important in dealings than even the credit ratings of today. These developments will alter completely the nature of government regulation, the ability to tax and control economic interactions, the ability to keep information secret, and will even alter the nature of trust and reputation.".

May's vision certainly can be appreciated in crypto with Jules Verne's vision in science-fiction.

With just so few words, he expressed so many actual technological developments, such as smart contracts, Tor, Bitcoin technology or the reputation system (used, for example, on BitcoinTalk as the Merit and Trust systems).

The reference to the "True Name" might be inspired from Vernor Vinge's novel "True Names" (1981), which is a fine piece of art.

He also forseen the apparition of black markets and the governs' fight to stop the information getting to the people:

"The State will of course try to slow or halt the spread of this technology, citing national security concerns, use of the technology by drug dealers and tax evaders, and fears of societal disintegration. Many of these concerns will be valid; crypto anarchy will allow national secrets to be trade freely and will allow illicit and stolen materials to be traded. An anonymous computerized market will even make possible abhorrent markets for assassinations and extortion. Various criminal and foreign elements will be active users of CryptoNet. But this will not halt the spread of crypto anarchy.".

The essay ends with "Arise, you have nothing to lose but your barbed wire fences!". The barbed wire fences are well known by the Americans. They is a part of their history: the western territories were bordered with barbed wires and the cowboys, which wanted freedom, were cutting the wires. It is a call to fight against the governs' corruption and oppression. Against secret agencies' efforts to shut down the information.

All of us should continue Cypherpunks' work and to fight for freedom!

4718  Other / Meta / Re: What if Theymos added new Rank after Legendary? on: December 26, 2019, 06:35:13 AM
I thought about OP's idea for a long time... And I embrace it somehow, meaning that I think it would be nice to have a Legendary / Legend rank for the true legendary users from here, such as Satoshi, Hal, Laszlo, or GameKyuubi.

These guys became parts of Bitcoin history!

Of course, there are others as well  but they are the first who came in my mind.

And this proposal would mean either to offer only to them the Legendary rank (and have a different name for the highest "regular" rank - the one after Hero) or to create a special rank for them (such as Legend).

It would be nice to have a distinction for those who wrote history, especially for those who are not active anymore or passed away.
4719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cryptocurrency vs digital money issued by the state on: December 25, 2019, 12:34:16 PM
I think he meant that no govern would want a decentralized digital currency issued by the state and there is no chance for this to happen, therefore any such tentative should be avoided.
