4701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is your opinion about MinexCoin on: October 24, 2019, 12:00:23 PM
Is minexcoin thesame as minexpay? You may need to check this out: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5046331.0
I would advice you to look for something else to invest in long term. The coin is probably not scam but could be potentially problematic. The risk is not worth taking.
Why not invest in established in Bitcoin and maybe few top altcoins?
4702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Ransomware Be Driving Up Bitcoin Prices? on: October 24, 2019, 09:46:36 AM
Might be true. Victims of this ransomware are forcing them to pay in Bitcoin.
Yeah but the quantities of bitcoin are probably not enough to affect the price in a meaningful way.  I would also point out that bitcoin prices have *not* been driven up lately.  It's been just the opposite, and anybody would know this with a quick look at a 1 year bitcoin price chart.

There was a thread about this a couple years ago if I'm remembering it correctly.  And as I said, whatever ransom these extortionists/criminals are asking, even if the victim had to buy bitcoin on the open market the number of bitcoins isn't enough to drive the price anywhere.  I'm sure if they had to pay something like 100,000BTC that might be true, but nobody is asking that for a ransom.

The thieves clearly do not influence the price especially recent price.

I hope it becomes possible to blacklist those addresses immediately once they are discovered. I wouldn't even mind if the addresses are frozen immediately via some sort of quick community consensus. If no one comes to claim the bitcoin, it can then be handed over to security agencies.
It would be good to have forum-like platform where those who feel their coins were unjustly frozen can provide proves for the community to decide whether to unfreeze the coins.
I guess this hasn't been considered because it could be abused in the future.

4703  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Quantum Computing News Utilized to Manipulate Markets and Crash BTC on: October 24, 2019, 08:56:31 AM
Well, I feel sorry for people who are easily bothered by news. People need to eliminate this distractions to enable them focus more on doing the "right thing". I am not saying that reading news is bad, but when it becomes a problem in your life, you'll have to avoid it. Avoid those media that constantly "threaten"  you with scary stuff. Or those that make predictions that hardly come to pass. Such news prevents people from thinking rationally.

Just bear in mind that investing what you can't afford to lose is not advisable. Have other sources of income. Learn to stay safe in this community and you will be fine.

Don't allow fear rule your life.
4704  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Believe ShapeShift's Trap. There is No Cheap Hardware Wallet! on: October 24, 2019, 07:50:37 AM
It's one of those dropshipping or whatever scams, they advertise a product as free or heavily discounted and they charge a fortune for shipping, enough that the shipping costs net them a fancy profit.

I saw it with 40 dollars delivery fees for free watches, and it looks like it's the same scheme here as well since crypto-currencies are the best big thing.

Is the product that bad? Has anyone actually used one yet? A 50 dollar hardware is still not bad compared to 100 dollar ledgers and 200+ for a trezor.

I'd love to hear someone's opinion about the device if they've tried it.

I doubt the ad is from dropshipping people. I checked the shapeshift.io website and I saw the $10 ad.
Well, . I guess they are really selling hardware wallet at that price but the extra charges actually go to shipping companies?
Check the bottom of the website, the $10 is clearly written there.

4705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: 3000+ Cryptocurrency on Coinmarketcap on: October 24, 2019, 07:25:01 AM
Days back the available number of cryptocurrencies reached 3000+ while the trading pairs have gone above 20750, and today it has got increased to 3025. If the same continues we can expect the number of cryptocurrencies available in the market to be above 3500+

Is this a healthy thing for the growth of cryptocurrency network or is it degrading the value of the system as large number of cryptocurrencies are available with zero trading volume and without any product backing.

It's not good sign as it's a sign of worriness wherein more than half of the crypto coins are in exchanges without trading volume and there is no use of quantity we expect quality products in order to prosper the crypto world. I think Coinmarketcap cap should filter those dead coins and renew the list and it's high time we need a separate platform to check only the performing coins.

I thought coinmarketcap filters out deadcoins? The site is probably overwhelmed or don't think it's necessary?
Well, I think sites like that would do a better job if they are properly funded. There are lots of factors to consider before delisting or accepting any cryptocoins. Would be nice if this is done right.

By the way, this issue is not unique to cryptocurrency world. If you could develop a coinmarketcap for real world businesses, you will be shocked by the number of dead/failed businesses in existence. This space is alittle more transparent and we are all overwhelmed by the truth. Should we then hide the truth and continue living in darkness? I don't think so.

Exchanges and sites like coinmarketcap need to be more thorough. I wish each exchange could have 2 seperate platforms, 1 for good cryptocoins while the 2nd will be permissionless for unfiltered coins. Users should be able to access both platforms.
4706  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Coach on: October 23, 2019, 03:51:32 PM
Hi,

I trade second year, but I can´t increase my trading success. I learn to trade by myself from e-book, videos,... I am looking for some coach. I don´t need to hear when buy/sell, I need someone willing to push me little forward. If I would want to open position I would send (you) my analysis and you would say: "Yes, it is good position to trade, because ....or no, don´t do that, because....." and try to help me improve my analysis and trading skills. If there is some great trader who would be willing to devote a little time to me, please contact me on my email jakub.pudis@gmail.com.

Thanks for all replies.

Before you pay for such service , first ask trader about his/her past records or ask that he demonstrates his trading skills with live trading. Don't just accept their claims and pay without verifying them. This forum is probably not the best place to find a good trading advisor. I think social trading websites are the likely places to find the better ones because you will be able to see their true past trading records.
Example of such social trading website is TradeView. Google it...i have forgotten the exact domain name.
4707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is VID another EOS-like coin. Do you think? on: October 23, 2019, 03:21:39 PM
VID proclaims itself as a video-centric journal app that allows you remember your life and monetize your memories. https://vid.camera.

I did a little search on it and drawn my conclusion but not final after the just concluded vid 1milperday token sales that it actually following EOS trend when it started sales.

If you have any means of buying the VID token and keep, do it, but don't forget to invest what you can afford to lose.

Remember to also do your own research
.

Not an investment advice

Nothing about decentralization on both on the website and this post ? Or is it not decentralized?  I was expecting to see words like "decentralized video site" or something.
By the way, there are lots of other similar video sites in Crypto world... what makes this different from them? And how about whitepaper and Roadmap?
4708  Other / Off-topic / Re: “Insurance booking” against volatility on: October 23, 2019, 02:16:12 PM
Another way this could be done is to have the uncle from England send willy Bitcoin that is guaranteed to be stable. Example: send $1000 worth of Bitcoin via a special platform that will maintain the price at $1000 till delivery.. . This won't be affected by volatility
.
The special platform can do this by automatically converting the bitcoin to stablecoin but still delivers Bitcoin to the recipient. The recipient can then withdraw his Bitcoin at exactly $1000 or buy stuff with it. While buying stuff the conversion from stable-bitcoin to Bitcoin happens automatically without him even knowing.

People should choose whether to have stable or volatile Bitcoin.
4709  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Don't Buy Spot Ever, Call A Bitcoin Just 5 Dollars- BTC Seer Option on: October 23, 2019, 01:44:22 PM
I almost try learning this type trading but something I don't want to mention here stops discouraged me. People should be more concerned about the advantages and disadvantages of this sort of things but very few care. I feel the long-term disadvantage outweigh the short-term gains... so I dumped the idea. I guess everyone "drunk" now and having fun.
4710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Private Key by 256 coin flips on: October 23, 2019, 01:11:17 PM
Some weeks ago I made a visual tool to create a bitcoin private key. The most secure way for key generation is to flip a physical coin 256 times. I flipped a coin 256 times, and made a video how to create the bitcoin private key with my tool.

Here is the video instruction: https://youtu.be/WyBdYhwweaE

The total time just for flipping a coin was 16 minutes, plus some minutes to fill the cells in my key generator. So, the fastest way to create a safe bitcoin private key with the physical 256 coin flips is appox. 15-20 minutes.

Enjoy!  Roll Eyes

PS. The project discussion is also available here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5187401.0

Nice. I guess it safer to do this offline as you suggested in your other thread. And a clean or brand new pc would be more suitable for even better security.
Generating a private keys in this way can be quite intimidating. The next thing would probably be to make it easier for even a 10year old kid to generate his own private keys in this way.
4711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people easily get scammed on the internet? on: October 23, 2019, 11:02:10 AM
Pretty much how people get scam in real world. They exaggerate thier products or services to lure their victims who will find them hard  to resist. People should probably stop patronizing things they will not get compensated for or get replacement for when the are unsatisfied.
As regards conducting research before investing, I totally agree... unfortunately not everyone will be able to conduct research. I don't think they deserve to be scam for being careless. Wish the cryptocurrency community can self-regulate to help purge out most of the scams around.

4712  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Time to get in? (DX token) on: October 23, 2019, 10:12:23 AM
Since I found this project @DxchainNetwork, https://dxchain.com, I have been following following closely. Even though I am no good coin analyst, I could tell that DX token did over X2, in the past 60 days.

Since then, the coin has been staying stronger even while ETH and BTC recede. I traded in past 1 week and made over 15% in ETH worth.

The price looks tempting now. And I'm thinking of getting in big. See https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dxchain-token/ for market detail.

 Any advice?

I see some extraordinary claims concerning the team(check the team photos) on their website. Examples:
Quote
Eric Wang
Full Stack Engineer
Former Software Engineer at Google. Experienced with full stack web app development and AI domain knowledge.

Quote
Xiaofei Liu
Blockchain Engineer
Master’s degree from Zhejiang University. Former senior software engineer at Alibaba. Has a wealth of experience in concurrent system and consensus mechanism in the blockchain.

How true are those? I guess you should spend more time researching into those claims to know whether they are true or not. The project is listed on eight exchanges according to CMC. The 24hr volume($936075 USD) is Ok. Looks like new virtual machine based cryptocurrency.

4713  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Ultimate List of Exit Scams & How to Spot One on: October 23, 2019, 07:42:48 AM
Exit scams have affected many people in the cryptocurrency world. In this article, we've gathered a comprehensive list of exit scams, and some tips on how to avoid becoming a victim. ❌ https://selfkey.org/the-ultimate-list-of-exit-scams-how-to-spot-one/

Did you experience being scammed in one of these?

"No team details" ? I do not agree.
Showing team photos should be optional. Insisting that developers have team photos is probably why some are using fake photos.
There are other things you can demand for in place of team pictures.

Am referring to "no team details" on your article: https://selfkey.org/the-ultimate-list-of-exit-scams-how-to-spot-one/

4714  Other / Off-topic / Re: Viewing and replying to thread or post on: October 23, 2019, 06:37:36 AM
I am just curious when the thread is so long some of the reply i see is the answer to the first post or the start of the thread. I am just curious of how users here view thread. How they reply to thread. Did they read the first post only? Or they read the whole thread? At some of my post I observe that many reply on my thread only reply at the first post. I thing they did not read the other reply that is why the answers or the reply on the thread are somewhat redundant. My question is this, How do you read thread do you read the first post or the start of the thread only, or do you read all before you make your reply?

It is pretty difficult to read the whole posts when a thread is too long. I normally read few posts or the first page of the thread before replying. There are times I don't read replies at all especially when I do not want member's views to influence my thoughts/replies. This usually happens when I am grounded in the subject of discussions.
4715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tokens backed by a Commodity/FIAT on: October 23, 2019, 06:04:58 AM
Do you have the list of $30 tokens and the developers that have received millions but aren't currently building something that is commensurate to the funds they received?

Well, I think it's better to have tokens that are backed by things that are decentralized, whether commodity or not.
4716  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scammed on LocalBitcoins on: October 22, 2019, 07:09:57 PM
I got scammed on LocalBitcoins and started looking for new p2p trading platforms in South Africa and came across Vertex Market (https://vertex.market ) as they posted on BitcoinTalk. Here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194938.new#new

Has anyone used them before? I have already made a couple of small trades which all worked but nothing over $100 because I’m a little scared putting in large amounts on a platform I just found.

The platform works great but I just want to know if anyone else has used it and if anything, bad has happened? It will probably be my go-to trading platform but need to confirm first.

Use paxful If what you are looking for is a peer-to-peer exchange or exchange like localbitcoins. Vertex.market doesn't look too genuine to me. I Googled the names but I am not very convinced by what I saw. Besides, the exchange promotions on this forum are exaggerated https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194938.new#new

4717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HTC Launches Blockchain Phone With Full Bitcoin Node on: October 22, 2019, 04:07:02 PM
This has been discussed a few months back when they first announced the phone, my opinion remains the same, a waste of money:

If running a full node for the purpose of helping the network, then I'm a little bit skeptical. A full node should preferably be up 24/7 and for a phone, It should be resource consuming to do so when it comes to the battery and also storage as years go by.

And If by that, it's just so the user is in full control of his transactions unlike with SPV wallets or closed source/centralized ones then, to be honest, I doubt that anyone cares that much. Not to buy another phone anyway.

I would rather go with something like Bitseed. It's a little bit more expensive, but it does the job perfectly and it's up 24/7 and it also lasts for years to come (1 TBB storage).

For anyone interested in helping the network or developing something that requires a full node, here is a list of hardware nodes: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/ap2nep/list_of_plugnplay_full_nodes_bitcoin_lightning_on/

And as for using the phone as a hardware wallet, then there are cheaper options out there (Ledger nano S, Trezor).

The bitseed (bitsend?) link is probably dead or didn't work at my own end. Would like to see what it looks like.
You made a good point. I guess hardware nodes should be developed specifically for running nodes (and not for any other purpose) for the sake of being online 24/7 and to work efficiently?
4718  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: (Yes or NO) The 2020s belong to DEXs on: October 22, 2019, 03:19:25 PM
Decentralized exchanges will likely get better in the future but I doubt they will replace centralized exchanges or have more users. As decentralized exchanges become better, centralized exchanges will probably get even better. Centralized platforms are easier to use.. most people will prefer the easiest platforms.
4719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Fully Decentralized World is Possible? on: October 22, 2019, 02:29:10 PM
Can we truly have a fully decentralized system? For example, we control our own money, properties, internet etc. If we can, how can we achieve this and what obstacles can we face? I want to control my money and I don't want my government to control what I see on the internet. There are ways of overcoming some of these but the whole internet is coming from the ISPs. We may have a satellite(Elon Musk) for internet which makes the decentralization easier for us.

You could if you live a nomadic kind of lifestyle. I doubt most people would like that kind of lifestyle. Some people like myself are probably born nomads. We will only have to rely on centralized internet to
1. Link our citizens surveillance cameras to decentralized web cam streaming sites
2. Browse the internet
3. Make calls
4. Use Blockchain services etc

So the internet will remain centralized until we find decentralized ways to access those services. If using the internet becomes difficult for nomads, we could come up with alternatives ways to communicate with the rest of world.

4720  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: list top 10 exchange in the market on: October 22, 2019, 12:46:16 PM
What is the top 10 exchanges which all the investors trust it?
For me https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges is providing the best list of the trusted exchange site with actual volume without the manipulation that created by the marketcap site itself. coingecko is better than CMC.
There was a trust score method that can determine the best exchange site. You can get it on the cryptorank.io too.

https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges
That is a really good list.  @sandra2010, check it out, I believe you will find something safe that works for you on the site.
I would suggest you use any of the 1-20 or 1-100 exchanges. If you are an average trader and you can't afford going through kyc then use any of the exchanges that does not demand kyc from average traders.
