The important question is "how MANY different people not colluding together own masternodes out of the total amount of current masternodes?"

The FBI de-anonymized TOR.  Some people will never learn no matter how many times history repeats.

Dash corporation is the similar to Paypal corporation , it's noting more than a for profit company.

How is that different than fluffypony running a Gambling web site that was hacked ?
Who was also paid by a millionaire who admitted to buying half a million dollars worth of Monero way back ? (in today's money)

What part of Monero's protocol doesn't transfer tokens to anyone except if they burn electricity do you not comprehend?

If you can't understand the relevance of that distinction to decentralization, then you are not qualified to tell anyone about crypto.

tl;dr is @Spoetnik is more concerned with ego than facts.

He seems to be entirely oblivious to the egregious distinction of decentralization between the two coins he is writing about.

So he is an example of exactly what he complains about: the ignorance of speculators.

DEAD on.

Moving away from BTC for a moment; anyone know why DASH is suddenly pumping? Huh
It has an extremely small float and it does not take much volume to move it.  IMHO it will crash even faster.
4724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 28, 2017, 03:10:33 PM
I think the two major weaknesses Monero have are 1) No masternodes (only dumpages on the exchanges) 2) No ongoing marketing hype. The result is that the price declines against bitcoin.

Masternodes are a liability.  They are an attack vector for deanonymizing transactions.  We should thank Saberhagen we don't have that.  But I assume you like them because they reduce the liquidity of the float thereby causing swings in price to be more amplified.

And the ongoing marketing "hype" is just bullshit.

You seem to only be interested in Monero as a get rich quick "pump and dump" vehicle.  That's fine.  My priorities are different though.  I do NOT want marketing "hype".  When you make the price rise unnaturally you will pay for it eventually.  In fact it could be argued we are paying for the dark market hype now.

I would propose Dash better meets your desires for a cryptocurrency.
4725  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: February 26, 2017, 01:38:56 AM
better than BitCoin?

Monero have great features comparable to bitcoin.

how does it scale?

It has some advantages over bitcoin.  Notably adaptive block size.

On the other hand the privacy does make for a larger block chain.
4726  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 24, 2017, 05:50:43 AM
Can someone please link to the memes we had with the xmr cars and dash in the rearview mirror?

I have the feeling we have to correct them :O

(Sry for trolling but i couldn't resist after all that trolling that was there after xmr passed dashs marketcap)

Turnabout is fair play.

Also...  Easy money to be made here if you use your brainbone.
4727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 22, 2017, 02:59:38 AM
With bitcoin looking to break the ATH and go beyond $5,000 potentially, what will monero do? Its held up well in $ terms so far.

Looks like in the beginning of the rally the weak hands are shaken away. Now the weak hands have btc/usd but no XMR. When btc is expensive the might be interested in buying cheap Moneros. The probability of this scenario is 30 % in my opinion.

I don't know whether their hands are weak, but hands holding BTC are seemingly SMART.  I do think this might not be a bad time to dig into some Monero.  I have bought a few over the last days...
4728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 20, 2017, 05:02:00 AM
I don't know if it will be considered "talking my book" thought I also kinda don't care. Wink

I had some orders get filled today...  I think we are a little oversold.
4729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 19, 2017, 09:38:10 PM
Bleep, the Monero premium is only 17 million currently...  Cry

I mean seriously, I wonder what's wrong - don't you be worried about this? Especially knowing that it is quite hard to dump Dark coin because it doesn't like to go down much.

I am still holding Moneros but the situation of Dark coin gaining market cap and Monero staying stable is something I guess people should be worried when it comes to the network effect.  I do not care so much about my holdings that stays the same pretty much but I am more worried about the lack of marketing which might take us in the bad situation of losing the little network effect Monero has. Who wants to buy an asset that is not rising in the price? I know there are some but I am afraid that group is minority.  Undecided

From what you are saying why not sell some of your monero and buy dash. If you own equal parts of each you'll never miss one of the "pumps". (I loathe that terminology) hedge your position.  If dash beats out monero you still win.

If you have a reason NOT to do the above then what are you worked up about?

You also constantly talk about lack of marketing.  Personally I see this as a FEATURE of monero.  But if you want to see it marketed why not pay to have that happen? Though I'd prefer you didn't.
4730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 17, 2017, 04:31:47 PM
is it me or has this thread been so boring for so long

Eye of the hurricane.

We'll be on Coinbase....Soon.

Then we can go back to posting exciting pictures of rockets and trains.   Cool
You sure? I only ask because Coinbase answers to the US government and the US government hates XMR, so I have a feeling it'd put Coinbase in the crossheirs of the government. Then again I don't seem to be up on the latest about things like that.

I doubt the US government is spending much of its hate energy on XMR.  Plus all the tools needed for regulatory compliance are available in Monero.

If the US government cares at all about who owns Monero then they will be delighted to have a compliant exchange begin to serve the XMR community.

It sure is getting bullish in here.

WTG rangedriver, it's gonna be fun to see how everyone did when smoothie posts the final results. Also it looks like my buys are in your predicted dips! Luckily the movments are not as volatile as your freehand. Smiley

What results?  Smiley

Oh smoothie don't be so coy... And when can we expect those results you owe us?

Ok guys, call me the crazy conspiracy theorist if you want but... LOL

Is anyone considering the possibliity that coinbase and Jaxx could be working together to depress XMR price lately, because they both *know* their upcoming actions will significantly fuel the "expected spring pump" that "monero always has" around March-April timeframe...?

In other words, figure Jaxx has Monero integration actually DONE (as they said!), but they're feigning a last minute bail-out of the project and they've put release on ice just long enough for coinbase also to finish up their work to add XMR to their systems... then -- right on cue -- they both announce Monero news around the spring expected schedule time, and... Profit.

Yeah yeah, oh sure, I know they would never do such a thing: they are only honest forthright upstanding legit bizznezzmenni ... uh huh sure, LOL

Either way Ima just HODL'in here for the longterm.  Crazy speculation is fun LOL

I think Jaxx was just unable to deliver and then wanted to blame Monero.  Is what it is.  I don't care one way or the other.  Jaxx support will not make or break the platform.

Coinbase on the other hand risks getting in pretty hot water with the US FTC if it can be shown they were purposely manipulating prices and using insider knowledge to benefit themselves.  Not that it could not happen... just that it would be very stupid for them to take that risk when they can make millions doing business legally.

To be honest that divisibility point was just a copy from the original.  I don't know why it is half either. Don't think it should be really.

As to the other points I can try to do additions asap.

Found this pic on the Monero subreddit.

https://en.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/5qpnh4/found_this_pic_on_the_bitcoin_subreddit_fixed_it/

It's really good.  A few more improvements will completely fix it.

1. Replace Transportable with (or add) a Digital category for BTC, XMR, and fiat.  Only giant stone Yap coins are not transportable, so it's moot.

1a. If leaving Transportable in, at least make the dollar faded (or cut the pic in half) to indicate the issues with moving non-trivial quantities of them.

2. Add Silver, indicate it is not Non-consumable (most is used for industry and not recovered).

3. Gold and Silver are fairly Divisible, more or less.  Bengals in South Asia, plus many denominations of gold coins throughout history.  Pieces of eight were like the Age of Exploration's Valcambi bars.   Cheesy

4. Instead of (or in addition to) using the subtle faded icons for a weak property, cut the icons in half.  It's much easier to notice and intuitive for a semi-held property.

5. Change the shell pic to Nassarius gibbosulus and indicate monetized shells are both Scarce and Fungible.

Per the long-awaited sequel to the classic Shelling Out essay,

Quote from: Nick Szabo

I want to try out the GUI, so the first three people to remake the image (.png please; we are not savages) with the above improvements gets 1 shiny new Monero.

Best version (my choice) gets a 1 XMR bonus.

Here is one version to your specs.

The final checksum word is also a repetition of one of the other 24 words.  If you could figure out a nice strong way to mark one of the tiles you would know which word to repeat at the end.

Perhaps fingernail polish?  A sharpie pen? An engraving tool?
4737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 18, 2017, 05:26:17 AM
@LennyCarl - don't take any 'predictions' you see here as in any way accurate or reliable -- especially mine.  I try my best looking at the chart and using the TA knowledge I've picked up over the last 4 years of doing this.  But the landscape changes so quickly (the events coming out of China this last week or so is a good example) and crypto prices are hyper-sensitive to sentiment and/or news.

But be especially wary of those who use these tools and lay claim to expertise - they are really dangerous.

@Febo.  No, I meant USD.  Over the last month XMR smashed through its ATH (when valued against USD) but you'd hardly have noticed if you'd read these pages because it was masked by BTC rise.  Instead we continue to judge alts value against BTC because of bizarre idealogical reasons based on predictions the global economy will collapse any day soon.

A bit like the bloke who wanders through the street claiming the end of the world is nigh, crypto is obsessed with financial Armageddon.  I've been on these boards for four years now and the end of days is always being predicted (given traditional financial markets move in seven year cycles there's never a crisis too far away.)

And of course the ultimate contradiction is that BTC is constantly valued against the USD.  Traditional currencies may well be used and abused but I don't see why they are a good enough benchmark for BTC but not for XMR.

Anyone that has any understanding of the real world knows USD will be here far longer than we will. The largest military presence the world has ever know backs USD, It's pretty damn safe. The guy with the biggest stick makes the rules no matter how civilized we want to think we are.

Saying that we are heading into some uncharted waters with Trump thinking he can take on China in some sort of trade war or challenge the one china policy.

To the best of my knowledge China essentially owns the USA by way of bonds issued over the last ten years or so ie it has been Chinese investment that enabled the US to recover from the GFC.  If China decides to 'cash in' those bonds then the US and its economy goes down the sink hole.  I assume that is what the PBC meant today when it said Trump would be "shooting himself in the foot" if he decided to challenge China over...well, pretty much anything.

But we are still in a place where when we get shot in the foot it is still firmly planted on China's head.  This may not always be the case

Until then they are not going to want to pull that trigger.
4738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 15, 2017, 03:43:02 AM
Heading back under $10USD....next stop around $8 within the next week/ten days.

The 4 hour USD/XMR chart for the last month or so on POLO is pretty revealing.
Could it be, do you think, that this coin is just one very rich investor's private plaything?

Yeah that makes tons of sense.  One guy just firing off five million dollars worth of magical internet money back and forth across the abyss day after day. I bet that's fun!

(Begone)

Wait?  Why are you yelling at me? Tongue

Short the news...XMR is PnD

If Monero is a pump and dump it holds the distinction of being one of, if not THE most successful of them all.

I wish I had not lost the few thousand Monero I had when I sent those pants with the USB drive in the pocket to the cleaners on that cruise ship.  If I still had them I'd loan them to you to sell short.

If there is anything we should have learned by now it is not to take our Monero with us on the open sea...
