How do you know they're from the original owner? Did you get a signed message? There's a very long gap in the posting history which is often indicative of a hacked account.
4722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: From where does sites like coinmarketcap, worldcoinindex etc get the data from? on: August 04, 2017, 05:24:58 PM
There's a FAQ on coinmarketcap which explains where they get their data:

https://coinmarketcap.com/faq/

Quote
How are the prices calculated for various the cryptocurrencies?

Price is calculated by taking the volume weighted average of all prices reported at each market. Sources for the prices can be found on the markets section on each cryptocurrency page. For example, Bitcoin's markets.

Click on the individual coins to see what exchanges each particular one uses.

PM cyrus. You might have respected the forum rules but if the account you bought was hacked I doubt you'll get any sympathy.
4724  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: August 04, 2017, 12:08:23 PM
I don't think theymos will ever lower the current donator ranks and has previously stated it wouldn't be fair,  but that's not to say there couldn't be additional ranks which would be pegged to fiat. When I initially proposed it he seemed to think it could be a good idea but I've brought it up several times recently with no response which is a shame because I think it could severely restrict or even stop account farming if bigger signatures were included in the perks.

You are in a bitcoin forum, and having some perks from any donation measured on a static fiat value (even if you donated bitcoins) would be nonsensical, might as well create a fiattalk forum too. And again, the donation required to attain these perks wouldn't be lowered in any way as again it could be a cheaper gateway to scam from other users of the forum.

Also, why would lowering the donations restrict account farming in any way? Idk how will it be possible.

Lol, c'mon. Seriously? It's nonsensical not to peg it to fiat. Do you really want another situation where it costs tens of thousands to donate (or if the price falls it being much cheaper)? No. The current situation with donator ranks is ridiculous and if it was pegged to fiat then we wouldn't have this problem. Pegging to fiat is the only way to do this and everything here doesn't have to be in a static bitcoin value. Do you buy hardware wallets or anything else in a fixed btc value? No. Pretty much every place you use bitcoin pegs the value to fiat because it's illogical to set a fixed bitcoin price for obvious reasons.

And it will stop account farming if signature sizes are removed from ranks and the only way you can get a signature is to pay for it. It will also stop people having dozens or hundreds of accounts without paying the fee. People farm dozens and in some cases hundreds of accounts because it's absolutely free to do so and this is why we have people botting and farming accounts en mass. They then join lazy alt coin campaigns because they can easily exploit them to rank up their accounts and get paid in the process. If you have to pay $50 or whatever for a signature then these people would be severely restricted in the amount of accounts they can have. It also essentially stops account sales because it would be pointless buying them.
4725  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: False accusation in a sig camp on: August 04, 2017, 11:56:52 AM
Can somebody tell me what is the probability for these things to happen if they're different people? OK, even if they are "3 friends" I still found the evidence that they do not deserve bounty v1 staked.

The "friends" excuse is just the bitcointalk equivalent of the dog ate my homework.

As I mentioned in the other thread a couple of these users were previously suspected of belonging to one person and many more were found with similar posting habits and with numbers at the end of their username such as these:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=972949 Krillin61 March 22, 2017
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=973462 Kersh768 March 23, 2017,

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=989652 Jaycee99 April 24, 2017

Notice how they're all on Shadowtoken (another red flag with farming).

Notice how another user with numbers at the end of their name is quick to jump to their defence:

Iam speaking on behalf of my cousin and her issuue that modertor stands on false accusation Of being a cheater and accuss her friends as well. They are ready to testify that they are different persons. They joined campaigns together and in this campaign my cousin cancelled her participation in this campaign and got back to page and supprice that her and 2 friends called of being a cheater in results they are not paid.

This moderator already message my counsin about why she will not get paid but she stands and ready to prove but this moderator said even if your are different individuals you still cheated on the campaign I said why? My cousin clearly NOTED THAT SHE WILL NOT JOIN THE CAMPAIGN and why is that a cheater?

If this moderator see this thread and accuse me of being a multi user nope Iam here to stand privately to that person to help my cousin.

Now, of course some or all could be "friends" or "cousins" and it wouldn't surprise me seeing as there seems to be a lot of Filipinos getting all their "friends" and "family" involved to milk campaigns for all they're worth but if you actually check this thread there's also seemingly a lot of users with numbers at the end of their names as well (though I'm sure some are just a coincidence but it's something that definitely should be looked into) but the ones I mentioned above are more clear cut because of their posting habits and sign-up date etc.
4726  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin ANN Posting Fee on: August 04, 2017, 11:29:00 AM
I agree 100%. Add that fee now and make it 1.5 BTC. Do we really want the likes of this : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2063802.0? no? ok, add that fee for the benefit of everyone on Bitcointalk.

That means we will collect 4.5 Bitcoin from that guy... He/she has 3 nonsense ICO at the same time...

Nah, we likely wouldn't. They probably wouldn't even make them if they had to pay anything but that's the beauty of it because only serious scamcoins crapcoins would actually shell out for the fee.
4727  Economy / Reputation / Re: >>>>EVEN WE ARE DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS CLOUDPOST YOU ACCUSED US OF CHEATING<<<<< on: August 04, 2017, 11:26:05 AM
if you clearly look at our profile the joining date is different  (I dont know if this can be the proof you might think Iam just saying this as a same person controlling the 3 accounts but no Iam saying this because we are different individuals and in behalf of clearing my name/user name and the same as for my friends)

How does that prove anything? In fact, two accounts are registered days apart which is often indicative of alt accounts (though obviously not conclusive by itself).

hilariousandco, please look at this post with proof of these guys cheating during the signature campaign and with evidence of them being twinks of multi accounts users (that's just my point of view): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2054758.msg20515866#msg20515866

A couple of these users were also previously suspected to be related along with many others (though they haven't been looked into yet unfortunately). Your campaign has probably been abused en mass by farmers and these accounts are likely only the tip of the iceberg. I noticed a while back that there seemed to be a lot of Filipino users who were farming accounts posting one after the other and most of them had numbers on the end of their usernames (with dozens and dozens already banned for shitposting and copy and pasting). The following have all since joined Shadowcoin as have some of the ones you mentioned that were on a list of suspected accounts belonging to the same user and also have similar sign-up dates:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=972949 Krillin61 March 22, 2017
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=973462 Kersh768 March 23, 2017,

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=989450 SacriFries11 April 24, 2017

I've asked them to be looked into but there's dozen and dozens more that follow a similar pattern.
4728  Other / Meta / Re: What activities increase your position ? on: August 04, 2017, 11:14:25 AM
There are no quick ways to gain activity and you can only gain it over time. You can get 14 activity points every two week period and no more so just be an active member and over time you will rise through the ranks.
4729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So everyone tells you to take your Bitcoins off the exchange before the fork!! on: August 04, 2017, 09:18:34 AM
I wasn't to sure why they all told their customers to take them off the exchanges in the first place.

Because that was the safest thing to do. People would have wept like widows had the exchanges not actually give them the Alt coins and the most logical and safest thing to do would be to hold your own coins so you were responsible for them and could ultimately decide what to do with them.

I think the majority of the people would of been okay to be without access to their funds for a day and a forth night

I'm sure many would have been but it's easy to say this in retrospect. Many more would have complained when they wanted to dump them but didn't have access to them.

4731  Other / Meta / Re: ** SELECT NO MORE THAN 5 BOARDS AT A TIME ** WTF? on: August 04, 2017, 09:05:21 AM
Theymos changed it. It is pretty annoying,  but if you want to search a board just go into the sub and use the search there.
4732  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting | Current pot: £400 - £20 buy-in on: August 04, 2017, 09:01:50 AM
Please post the Bitcoin address where we should be sending Bitcoins.  I'll send mine from my Bitdice campaign wallet.  Please post it quick before I send them to a sports book just to lose them again.  Cheesy

And how much in BTC should we be sending more or less?
Don't lose it all bro just wait for hilariousandco's pm starting tomorrow or pm him it would be faster. I think everyone would be sending 0.01 btc that's 20 gbp.

Yeah,  I'll make it 0.01. I'll sort an address out later when I get on my PC and pm everyone it. Hopefully there's no drop outs but still a week left to try get a few more players.
4733  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin split to Bitcoin Cash! (BCH) Yep! You probably owe IRS a lot of $$$. on: August 03, 2017, 10:12:23 AM
I would look for another CPA.

Until you convert your Bitcoin Cash to Fiat, you owe the IRS nothing.

Since you were given the Bitcoin Cash for Free, you have a Zero Cost Basis.

You will have to report the entire amount as income of what it sells at for fiat, but only when you cash out and only the amount that flowed from the Bitcoin Cash.

Split your conversion of Bitcoin Cash to Fiat over a few years to keep your tax rate lower.
But keep it's accounting totally separate from your other coins, so it does not get confusing.

╥Aztek

If that was true....mining would also not be taxed. The catch is you are getting FREE money out of thin air. The IRS
does NOT take kindly to that, only taxed when it hits your wallet address.

Miners do that as their job therefor they will pay income tax. If you make money from trading or investing then you will only pay capital gains on your profits once you cash out or this is how it works in the UK at least but I assume it's the same in the States.
4734  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have another section for BitcoinCash? on: August 03, 2017, 07:50:52 AM
Like it or not...BitcoinCash (BCH) is here to stay

How do you know it's here to stay as its only been a few days? It could be next to worthless a few months from now.

I know there can be a space for another altcoin in the crypto-verse. Can we then have a separate section dedicated to BitcoinCash? Or have we already got one? Please tell me.

Yes,  it's in the Alt Coin section with all the other coins.
4735  Other / Meta / Re: Should Signature Campaigns be moved to their own sub-boards? on: August 03, 2017, 07:46:35 AM
I would be for it just as long as there was some sort of fee charged to be able to make a thread in there. If we don't do it with the bitcoin paying campaigns then it should at least be done with alts because they literally get away with free advertising when they pay out in the premined crapcoin and the spam from their campaigns alone likely makes up 95% of the issues here which staff are left to clean up and essentially run their campaigns for them.
4736  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: August 03, 2017, 07:38:57 AM

For the record, I already have asked theymos about changing the amount to achieve Donator and VIP status. His explanation was quite brief: changing it into something smaller than what it is could be grounds for services and people to abuse the system to scam.

Do you have the actual quote of this? Was he talking about the current Donator/VIP ranks or new additional ones? I don't think that just because somebody might take advantage of them to scam is a good enough reason. People can already buy accounts here to do that or use their already Hero/Legendary status to try pull off a scam anyway. In fact, you could probably argue that people who donate to the forum will be less likely to scam because they have money invested in their account.
4737  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin ANN Posting Fee on: August 03, 2017, 07:21:06 AM
New idea: charge a fee of 1 BTC for every new ANN in the altcoin announcements.

This would drastically reduce the amount of low-quality projects / scams posted.

Not every Altcoin ANN poster has 1+ BTC to just throw into making an ANN...

What is your point here exactly? If they don't have or can't muster up the fee to post here then it just shows you how much faith they have in their product. If they were serious about listing it here then they would have no issue getting the funds together but for those fly by night scammers who just want to quickly throw their crappy idea out there and see if they get lucky it'll make them think twice.

I would agree this idea also because after that there would be less amount of scam coins and ico's thread but also there is another problem. This forum is free service, if wedo that, then another bitcoin forum will try to get opportunity by mentioning that such service is free on their forum.

There are already several other similar forums people could advertise on but they don't have anywhere near the userbase this one does so it would be futile even listing them there. People announce their coins here because it's the best way to do so and there's a huge userbase that will happily advertise here for you via signature campaigns, but running a signature campaign on forum with hardly any users would be equally as worthless.
4738  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin ANN Posting Fee on: August 02, 2017, 02:34:32 PM
Why would people assume that? Why would people not already assume the forum approves them if they're posted here?
It's more like "support" than "approves." The forum would be held accountable since the forum "supports" this project with the fee that they paid which can be assumed as "agreement."

I still don't see the logic how the forum would be supporting them. You pay a fee to post not gain support. You can already buy ad slots here but there's a disclaimer under each of them saying the forum doesn't support them and they could be scams and this would be no different.

I think paying some sort of fee is a good idea because most of these get rich quick schemesters/scammers only bother to make their crap coins because it costs absolutely nothing to them and then they even get free advertising with legions of shitposters. If they actually had to pay something I bet many wouldn't bother.
It won't stop them. Let's say there is a project made to scam others then in order for them to post it here then they pay 1 bitcoin then proceed. People would start investing then they can just run considering that they acquire more bitcoins which is far more greater than 1 bitcoin. Hence, even if the 1 bitcoin fee is implemented then there will be not much of a chang but rather for the forum's administration to get richer.

It won't stop them completely but it'll stop all the broke fly by night scammers who have nothing to lose. At the moment anyone can create a crapcoin ico and pay an army of shills  to promote it all for free with a premined coin but if you had to pay then a lot wouldn't even bother. I'm really not sure why we even allow them to advertise here for free especially when probably 95+% of the spam and moderation is caused by them.
4739  Other / Meta / Re: Get Donator status by donating 10 BTC on: August 02, 2017, 02:25:14 PM

I understand that it should be respected for the people that donated these amounts back in their day and even Claymore semi-recently earning Donator status for his 10 BTC Donation but IMO these ranks and price points should be retired for something more palatable and reasonable.

As others have suggested, I will also suggest, perhaps it's time to create a new donator structure that is based off of the fiat dollar amount at the time of the donation so the "NEW" VIP could be something reasonable?

I would also go further to suggest that maybe there are different tiers of donation titles or something as has been done on other message boards. I know this is isn't something that can not be done overnight and it takes a lot of thought/work to implement.

Thanks for the consideration.

More donator ranks with additional perks has been suggested by a few users myself included. I even suggested we remove signatures from ranks entirely to stop account farming and then you can only get one through donation. Pegging them to fiat was also recommend.
4740  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Loans = Reputation | Thoughts? on: August 02, 2017, 07:16:02 AM
Thank you all guys for sharing your thoughts, and i really respect your opinions, but i guess most of you guys have misunderstood my concept of saying "Trust" or "Reputation". By getting trust or reputation i did not mean positive feedback or trust rating, but i simply was asking if will that earn me some respect.

Why does it matter whether you're getting feedback or just their respect? Your goal still seems to be the same and that is to become trusted or vouched which still seems to me like you're trying to buy it regardless of feedback (and I'm sure if you did actually make these loans you would have wanted/expected or asked for feedback to be left). If you want trust or respect then just earn it naturally over time like anyone else does but seeking it out just because is the wrong way to go about and makes you look the opposite of trustworthy to me.
