4721  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Safety Precautions Towards Investment on: February 27, 2020, 04:37:35 PM
99.9% ICOs are either scams or doomed to fail because of incompetence of their developers. It's simply not worth anyone's time to look for the mythical "good project", and the crypto market overall has more to do with pure speculation rather than fundamentals - we have shitcoins having way higher prices than they deserve, and few of the decent coins are undervalued.

You're correct when you say that people become blinded with their greed, so the actual solution is to stop being so greedy, stop chasing some quick and big returns and invest for long term in established and proven assets like Bitcoin.
4722  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trading And Investor on: February 27, 2020, 12:53:03 PM
4. What makes one a Perfect Investor
5. How can one determine a futuristic success of a project to invest in. And lastly
6. What are the precautions to be taken in relation to doing all of this.

No one will teach you things like that, if it was so easy then everyone would become investors, but investing is by its nature competitive. Trading crypto isn't much different then trading penny stocks or other risky assets, so if you want to start with it, you can get some literature about traditional trading. You'll also need to learn in-depth how cryptocurrency works so you can judge crypto technologies on your own instead of relying on third parties that might easily be shilling. It takes a lot of time, effort and talent to trade crypto, and if you'll jump into it unprepared, you will lose your money.
4723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Install Tails OS on USB flash drive for Wallet Purpose on: February 27, 2020, 10:24:10 AM
I use Tails to access my Bitcoin wallets and I think that using persistent storage and connecting it to the Internet kinda defeats the purpose of using Tails, since its main feature is being amnesiac. Persistent storage introduces the risk of letting some malware sitting there between sessions and potentially escaping the airgap, and turning on Internet connection would allow malware to send the stolen data to its parent server.

I prefer to store wallet files and Electrum wallet on a flash drive, copy them to the desktop and remove the flash drive, and only then open wallet files and do transactions (which I create on my online machine and use yet another USB stick to bring them to the cold storage machine for signing).
4724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin a failed experiment? on: February 27, 2020, 09:11:02 AM
Every time Bitcoin drops, some newbies snap and panic sell, because they had this strange expectation that Bitcoin can only go up and it's there to make them rich quick. Often such people are investing for the first time, because anyone with experience understands that investment comes with the risk.

Do you want us to convince you to to hodl Bitcoin or are you just venting your frustration? Because if you are not ready to experience this markets downs, you don't deserve to experience its highs.
4725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gaming Industry and Cryptocurrency! on: February 26, 2020, 06:32:02 PM
Also, this games are trendy because it uses cryptocurrency as a currency in the game surely this idea could easily implemented some popular games like Fortnite, Dota 2 , LOL, etc. In this kind of game, cryptocurrency is still not used but possible as a payment method kind could easily be a great option to use since there are also a lot of gamers in the cryptocurrency community.

Gaming community is hundreds of times bigger than crypto community. Gaming companies don't have to appeal to crypto enthusiasts, because they are already paying for their products, and adding crypto support would barely improve it. Steam dropped Bitcoin support and they didn't see any loss of revenue as the result. The existing payments work well enough for everyone, so there's no chance gamers would be adopting crypto if it will be added to their games, they will stick to what they are familiar with.
4726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stock market CRASHING. How will this reflect on Bitcoin on: February 26, 2020, 05:29:07 PM
Historically, gold wasn't doing that good. When people escape from investments and a panic spreads it's rather "let's take out alll of our money and hide it under the bed" attitude that prevails. People turn off thinking for a while and it takes time before they start investing again. It's not like they're selling stocks and immediately buying gold. They're afraid hos other markets might react and want to sit and wait to see which ones will or will not be affected.

You're right, especially since so many gold investors never own it physically and it's just another number inside a centralized database. Still, there's no difference for Bitcoin if people move their money to gold or cash, if its perceived as unjustifiable risk at times of a crisis, it will get dumped. So, the question is, how would hodlers act - are they bitcoiners first or traders/speculators first?
4727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stock market CRASHING. How will this reflect on Bitcoin on: February 26, 2020, 04:45:59 PM
  • The bear: Bitcoin will crash because people will be selling their bitcoin for them to be able to afford daily needs(food, sanitation, etc).

This assumes that majority of bitcoin investors are rather poor retail investors with no other assets or fiat savings, and I doubt that this is true - some portion of coins is held by whales, and many investors are likely belong to middle class and wouldn't need to dump their coins in case of a recession.

I think the bearish scenario is possible, but under some other mechanism. Maybe Bitcoin just isn't a good safe haven for such scenarios because of its volatility, so money will be moved to assets like gold.
4728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people compare betting and investing in bitcoin (in terms of risk)? on: February 26, 2020, 01:58:06 PM
From a mathematical point of view, gambling means risking while having negative expected value, while investing means risking while having positive expected value. With gambling it's easy - the expected value can be precisely calculated as per the games rules, but with investing its the opposite - it's hard to calculate even the estimates, especially for a purely speculative asset like Bitcoin. So, in investing your expected value is tied to your knowledge and experience as an investor - if its low, then it's likely to be negative, and then investing is indeed like gambling, but with enough knowledge you will be making money in the long run.
4729  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't auto Save your login details on: February 26, 2020, 11:25:02 AM
OP, your title is misleading, because from it alone it looks like you're telling to never save login information in the browser, but in your post you are only talking about public computers. There's nothing wrong with saving logins on your own computer, and if you use a master password, it's nearly as good as a full password manager, because your passwords will be encrypted.
4730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Global Internet connection goes down and Bitcoin Network is not affected. on: February 25, 2020, 05:53:40 PM
People should by now be brainstorming on how to create a decentralized global internet network. There are few viable "flying things" that can be used for this.

The internet is already decentralized, but not everywhere - countries like China and Russia are testing the mechanisms of shutting it down in their countries or cutting themselves off from the global network. So having some sort of censorship-resistant satellite-based Internet providers could potentially solve this problem, all we need after that is just some competition to avoid relying too much on a single provider.
4731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren buffett strikes again 😂 on: February 25, 2020, 10:32:31 AM
How can someone take seriously an opinion on technology from a person who doesn't understand and use modern technology? It's like asking a caveman what he thinks about Bitcoin. And it doesn't matter if this specific caveman is ultra wealthy and genius trader, since Bitcoin isn't some stock, it's a protocol, a network, a software and community.
4732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin declined 3% as the coronavirus spread in italy on: February 25, 2020, 10:19:50 AM
Can coronavirus spreading be the cause?

No, crypto journalists just have this habit of explaining Bitcoin's price movements with some totally unrelated world events, because that's what generates traffic for their sites - no one wants to hear how Bitcoin is volatile and goes up or down as the result of pure speculation, because that's so boring.

Just think about it, why would the coronavirus impact bitcoin's price? It has no effect on how the bitcoin network works, or how people might use Bitcoin. And the effect on mining farms in China is still very small.

4734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and the Black Americans on: February 24, 2020, 01:55:21 PM
Bitcoin's benefits compared to banks are largely theoretical - because its downsides far outweigh them. So with Bitcoin you can reduce the fees for some operations, but then your money will turn into a volatile investment that can go up or down by multiple percents in a minute. And it's quite hard to actually spend it in real life, you'd have to spend additional time on getting to the places that accept it, and poor people are often busy or tired to do such things.
4735  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Placing coins in storage or setting stop losses? on: February 23, 2020, 01:59:01 PM
In terms of investment looking into top 10 in a website called coinmarketcap wouldnt hurt a bit. There are people trusted the ranking of cryptocurrency coins listed there. Yeah youre definitely right. Good or safety of coins must not be dependant on that? Can I ask? for people who dont have much experience and knowledge which reference should they seek advise or any legit website to depend on? I appreciate if you could recommend some.

People who don't have enough knowledge and experience shouldn't be investing in the first place, they should learn until they are able to make their own judgement and not rely on some public websites to tell them where to put their money, because its a sure way to lose them.

Most investors and traders response, when newbies asking which coin to invest with, I am sure more of them will response just choose top 10, 20 or even 50 in the market to be safe (pretty sure they are referring to CMC). There is no such thing as safe, cause even bitcoin its still risky. Dont see much difference aside from the centralization of tether and btc when it comes to OP's topic IMO.

There's a huge difference between Bitcoin and every other coin - Bitcoin is the king of this market, and alts always mirror its performance. Altcoins are much more riskier than Bitcoin, thousands of them have already died, but Bitcoin is still alive and well.
4736  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Invalid bitcoin adress? on: February 23, 2020, 01:34:57 PM
The lack of adoption of segwit technology does not necessarily mean that the platform did not update the code, but there are many reasons:
BCH, BSV Supporters: they want high fees to support them useless hardforks.
There is no uniform standard for segwit signatures ( sign/verify a message)
Third party use.

In the past, during the so-called scaling debate, there was indeed a desire to keep Bitcoin fees high, and you could witness exchanges and some other services to do any optimizations to their transactions, but today it doesn't happen on any big scale. And the amount of shitcoin supporters within the Bitcoin services is very low, as most of them have already moved on. And the capability for signing messages is rarely needed for services, so it's also not a reason to not adopt segwit.

So, pooya87 is right, if a service doesn't support SegWit addresses, they likely haven't touched their codebase for a long time.
4737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Simpsons talks about Cryptocurrency on: February 23, 2020, 12:13:04 PM
The Simpsons is a shadow of its former self, the show went from having above 20 millions of viewers to below 4 millions as of now. And the impact of modern Simpsons on the popular culture is nearly non-existent - it's a zombie show that no one talks about, when people say "the Simpsons" or make some memes, they refer the seasons 1-8.

One of the problems of modern Simpsons is that they spend too much time covering contemporary culture - they make whole episodes about celebrities, social movements, etc., so I'm not even surprised that they talked about crypto.

Quote from: gentlemand
I find that a truly bizarre attitude.

Bizarre? You call the pacifist approach bizarre... Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that one...

Quote from: hatshepsut93
Because usually it's not the case, terrorists get funded by states or wealthy individuals, in this specific case Hamas is mainly funded by Iran and its allies. And it's not like they just send some money to the terrorists, they often supply them directly with goods, weapons, food, etc. Terrorism existed  long before Bitcoin was created, and Bitcoin's emergence didn't change anything.

Well, I believe these all things are accommodated via Black money... So there are mechanisms already in place which "allow" the funding to go undetected...

@DooMAD I will reply to you in the same manner as @gentlemand. Being a pacifist isn't being perverse... I might be a bit naive with what I have said but I'm not a political person... I'm a simple guy who is fed up with seeing innocent blood spilled each day...

What does pacifism have to do with Bitcoin? You can't stop wars by banning Bitcoin, you can't prevent terrorism by banning Bitcoin, in fact there's no evidence that Bitcoin is used to fund terrorism in any significant amounts. If you start taking freedom away from your own people then the terrorists have already won, because that's exactly the point of terrorism - to provoke some negative reaction from the government to cause more conflict.
4739  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank create money out of thin air faster than you! on: February 22, 2020, 04:05:42 PM
Summary, can you have saving today? How can you have any saving at all? Personally crypto is my only saving, my cash flow have been -ve since forever, more money out of pocket than more money go in, the ratio is greatly skewed toward expense, with each passing year the ratio gain more skewedness, 99% expense and 1% income, it’s not healthy.

No one hides cash under their beds anymore, people save money by putting them in funds or investing in stocks/commodities on their own, or they do both. Their minimum goal is to beat the inflation, but often they make quite good additional income in the long run (unless they are autistic gamblers who blow their money on day trading).
4740  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Important Point of Earning Merit on: February 22, 2020, 03:48:55 PM
3. Creation of content - Every writers mindset should be based on who is getting, or benefitting from his content. There should be Concentration more on who is benefiting from your posts, because the uniqueness of your content can easily earn you a merit on this platform. A good writer who post consistently like one of the Admin said is widely well respected. Because his contribution is always helping people to learn on the platform. The community is always happy to have informative content

I sometimes see newbies trying to farm merit by writing guides or educational posts, but because they are newbies, they either beat a dead horse or involuntarily spread misconceptions. So, if you think that you can earn merit by creating useful threads, make sure that you are creating a unique content and that you perfectly understand what you are writing about, and not just copypasting material from some shitty crypto blogs and news sites.
