4742  Other / New forum software / Re: Why not use Bcrypt? on: February 25, 2015, 09:08:42 AM
The forum already uses its own hashing method, IIRC its 10,000 rounds of RIPEMD160 with a unique salt per user. This is as safe as it gets.

RIPEND160 is good and I think SHA-2 family is good too. I think bcrypt was suggested because it has a large time cost for each hash generated, which makes brute force attacks against any given password an infeasible proposition.

4743  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a ponzi section added to the forums? on: February 25, 2015, 08:45:21 AM
Many play because they think they can get out before they are scammed. Doubt it will go well for most but it's their choice.

Promoters/early investors don't look 'how it is for others?', they want to earn some BTCBTCBTC through referrals. Undecided Glady, almost all of the ponzis in this forum don't have referring system.

I've got nothing against creating a ponzi section,

Creating a 'Ponzi' sub-board means we are encouraging Ponzi and I am fully agains it. Gambling section fits for ponzis.

but banning it all is harder to do. As others said if ponzies are banned then we have to ban cloud mining, etc.

You are probably right! But we can ban cloud mining with no proof of mining(mining-farm, mined blocks etc..) easily.

4744  Other / New forum software / Re: Will data carry over? on: February 25, 2015, 08:37:09 AM
Yes, all of the features, threads, and users will be carried over to the new forum.

I don't know but users who aren't inactive after 2011 and probably 2012 shouldn't be carried to new forum or atleast Newbies and Jr. Members except important persons and early testers, eg:- Satoshi. So we can use that names.

4745  Other / New forum software / Re: Threads Prefixes ? on: February 25, 2015, 08:30:55 AM
Similar to thread flags and tags, I like it. Perhaps we can add filters, making it so some users don't see threads tagged with a tag they don't like, or tag posts older than three months, and tag official staff announcements.

I like sorting and hiding threads with specific tags, for example hiding threads with tag '[NSFW]'. If this is being implemented, just need a confirmation from theymos or a dev, then I can compile a list of tags whichever I know and can found in internet. This would decrease dev's work.

Flagging threads with '[INACTIVE]' automatically would be good too although there is a warning when replying to threads older than 5 months, IIRC.

4746  Other / New forum software / Re: Auto Translate on: February 25, 2015, 08:25:38 AM
Even if the translations aren't the best they give you the ability to get the idea of what the person is saying and it would be great for making the forum more unified and accessible to more people. I'm in favor of this.

You can easily do this by using Google Translator. I don't think it is necessary but if we have enough time and enough people for translations, then this can be added. It is a heavy work unless if we can get translations from any other website/person.

+1 from me. I was looking for disadvantages of using Bcrypt and one disadvantage I found is that the output length is not configurable. From http://www.tarsnap.com/scrypt/scrypt.pdf:

DIdn't understood #1 what are ?

Thats how your signature looks to me.

His computer support that character but ours doesn't and that's why I think, you aren't getting the answered you like to get.

and #2 whether you missed this -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
is it illegal to make a signature like that ?

I tried to hint at a thread you might want to link.

Anyway back to topic.

He created the sig for me and I have updated the link, he used old forum rules thread instead of new one(I maybe responsible for that). New sig : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=965643.msg10574604#msg10574604

I assumed you posted this suggestion publicly in order to get others opinions.

I think it isn't a good idea as this isn't what forum is for. It is just another thing going on this forum. If anybody like to create a public bot for checking, that would be better IMHO.

Bitcoin-qt stucks on loading wallet. Armory does not see bitcoin-qt !

You don't want to use Bitcoin-qt to use Armory for storing SJCX. Create an address in Armory, go to CounterWallet and click "Create New Address", and then "Create Armory Offline Address". Type the address you got from Armory in the "Address" field, and some descriptive text in the other field, such as "Cold storage". Click "Create New Address". That's it!

I have problems with bitcoin-qt (it does not load up) ona VM ubuntu OSed therefor I am not able to store my SJCX locally.

More details please. Why don't use Armory to store SJCX? See http://blog.pryds.eu/2014/07/store-your-sjcx-in-armory.html.

Anyway what happens if I just send SJCX to a BTC address?

This is probably coming a bit late, but if neither of you have further looked into it this, this last month, here it is: the grace period is probably closer to 10 minutes - I frequently edit my own posts, and I'm often not that quick in doing so. Smiley At any rate, I'm pretty sure the dotted line doesn't appear before then, though the limit may be longer than the 10 minutes.

EDIT: after 5 minutes...

EDIT: after 9 minutes...

EDIT: after 10 minutes...

If you edit same post, then we(alteast non-staff) won't know whether a dotted line appear when you edit after 5 minutes. Let me try with this post.

Edit : Verified the grace period isn't 5 minutes.

Edit : Verified the grace period is around 10 minutes.
