D. Moderators do not remove Dox.
Except for gmaxwell, who removed the dox in the Butterfly Labs thread, called it "cleaning up 10 pages of derailment", resulting in this meta thread being created, right ?

I myself am inclined to think this was one of those "unfamiliarity" with the thread kind of things, rather than "ill-intent".

But it would be interesting to see what Gregory has to say for himself...  Lips sealed

He already said it. He won't be back. If he does come back to this thread it won't be to say, "oh yeah, I didn't read through them all carefully enough so I deleted things I shouldn't have because I'm unfamiliar with the topic". lol

I just have faith in the natural human ability to fuck things up, even Bitcoin.
4743  Other / Meta / Re: Deleted posts in the Hardware BFL Thread, Double Standards, and Hypocrisy on: January 05, 2015, 08:31:21 PM
(Xian01 tells me that this thread was created because of messages I removed in a thread about BFL)

I don't know and don't care about "dox".  I removed a ton of posts that have absolutely nothing, not even any claim, of having to do with BFL, that were basically making it impossible to find the one in ten posts that were actually about BFL.

For the abstract question ... harassing people is not okay, but there are limits to what can be done about it.

I sent you a PM, bud.

You know what would be interesting to know Bruno; whether the service of Stephen M. Reid as an army interrogator crossed paths with the service of a certain Korean army linguist aka Inaba aka BFL_Josh aka Joshua Ryan Zerlan...

That would certainly shed some light on the entanglement of these here "actors" on BCT....

I don't think I've ever seen Maxwell be overly biased in favor of or against anyone. He's usually pretty balanced in moderation here and IRC. You an I were bullshitting about professionals posting here and it was off topic and got deleted. I know better, it was my mistake. I know to say something about the topic if I'm going to say something off topic and I didnt. He left one of my off topic posts because there was also relevant content in it.

Maxwell can eat shit! (I need to prove I'm not just kissing his ass. lol).

This isn't the first thread pertaining to gmaxwell's moderation. However, the most immediate incident is the only instance I've seen with possible consequences against revealing relevant information.  Afaik, everything else is just about personal attacks and 'if you remove this, why not this' kinda stuff.

I haven't been in another one but there could be I guess. I just don't see a reason for him to delete anything but off topic stuff which my deletions clearly were.

Are you the same efx from the BTC-e troll box of long ago?

4745  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin should modify to POW + POS ? █████ Poll █████ on: January 05, 2015, 05:04:44 PM
Definite YES.

You don't let some miner from China control your personal finance, why let miners control your Bitcoin network? Bitcoin stakeholders should be the controller of Bitcoin network, not some random profit crazy mining farm from China. The PoW miner's only intention and purpose is to extract value out of Bitcoin eco-system.

Those damn Chinese! All they know how to do is make everything Walmart sells and mine Bitcoin. We should develop a virus that attacks fried rice and egg rolls. lol
4746  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could be anywhere in the world right now where would you be? on: January 05, 2015, 04:34:03 PM
Good question but for me is more important who is around me, my family, spouse etc, than the fact where I at a given time.
If I can be with my spouse in some special place, this is double benefit and blessing but without her it will be boring, really Smiley

That's sweet. Are you a newly wed? After 20+ years of marriage my wife and I take separate vacations because when we take them together we don't have anyone to talk to.

Oh no, that's really sad, you guys need to reconnect! I'm not an expert but maybe you should take a holiday together where you both do something new together and that will probably help keep things interesting and fresh? Just a thought? Smiley

I can't take her because she gets pissed off when my girlfriend hogs the blankets and there's never enough counter space in hotel bathrooms for two women.

"A couple of exchanges will fail either due to regulations or fraud/incompetence of the owner."

One down 13 to go.

how did you count 13? Smiley

You're right, it should be more. I need one more exchange to make "a couple".

Vircurex is good enough? Smiley

It needs to be this year to qualify. lol

4751  Other / Off-topic / Re: The craziest shit you can buy with bitcoins right now? on: January 05, 2015, 03:27:51 PM
I still find it super weird you can buy like "peep shows" using bitcoins.  I haven't ever purchased one with this but I find it absolutely crazy that people buy that and accept it as payment!

That's like saying you find it weird that young guys fap. That's as natural and normal as eating. When I was young I fucked everything in my house while looking at my dads playboys. My mother had a fur coat that didn't need a hanger anymore.

The dollar can't die quickly in the classic sense because the dollar isn't just a bunch of paper that people agree has value. It's an enormously complex system of domestic and international trade that would require a century to unravel. Maybe in a century there will be a competing currency to fill the vacuum left after its demise. If that's Bitcoin, great. Of course, it won't matter to me because I'll be dead.
You are most likely correct, however it is possible for the dollar to fail/collapse in your/our lifetimes.

Your analogy is assuming that the US empire will fall the same way the British empire fell, very slowly over a period of 100+ years. It is possible that the US empire would fall the same way the greek empire fell, (or the german empire of WW2) - very quickly and having a cascading effect

I hope so. I'd kind of like to see it.

I hope this does not happen !!

Don't mind me. I've kind of always wanted to see how the world would handle a pandemic too. Although when it's happening I'm sure I would want it to stop.

I hope it will happen. Sure, people will suffer, but ask yourself, are they not already? The worlds financial system revolving around FED is deeply immoral, based on theft, counterfeiting and corruption and is directly or indirectly responsible for almost all major military and political conflicts as well as most if not all economical crises. Yea, people benefitting on the old system will take a hit, deal with it

What you're talking about is a people thing not a money thing. There are only two kinds of people in the world, conmen and their prey. Immorality, theft, ponzi's and corruption have happened in Bitcoinland too. It doesn't matter if the FED falls because a new group of manipulators would rise up and take over the next system. It would happen even if that system is based on a cryptocurrency. Pirate easily figured out how to run a ponzi denominated in crypto. The only thing that would come out of it is a bunch of innocent people would suffer along with a handful of greedy assholes.

It will blow the lid off btc, send it to the moon. I can see it legitimizing crypto for many who would never consider it before. They have a ton of btc to play with, they will move the price every day.

This won't really legitimize Bitcoin. It's kind of designed for exactly the opposite. This will allow people that don't want to get dirty by holding Bitcoin directly to get in on the action. Like when drug lords invest in a Vegas casino. The casino gets the drug money without having to sell a few kilos of dope.

Investors like to have a few percent of their portfolio in super high risk high yield investments. If their risky investment succeeds it increases their bottom line a great deal. If it fails it doesn't drop their bottom line by very much. Buying riskier assets with a low correlation with each other is the classic diversification strategy. Bitcoin also acts like an inverse preformer which could allow hedging of less risky investments. Hedges aren't really legitimate investments. They are more like casino dice rolls that you're gambling will pay off if everything else in your portfolio tanks.

Since everyone here is convinced that you're God I have a couple of questions. Why did you make the pits in Avocados so large? Would you mind backing that seed off by a half an inch or so? While you're at it maybe back peach pits off too.

... and at that point you are incentivised to convince everybody else to use your chosen currency, irregardless of the fallacy of your inexperienced or ill-informed opinion ...

and so on and so on the bullshit goes

Crushing public debate is your chosen method for attracting new business and making improvements? I guess that method works because it's worked for many companies in the past. My chosen currency so far is Bitcoin and you've never seen me say anything different. Since you obviously have the answers why don't you enlighten me? Please, tell me how Bitcoin is perfect and will never require another update.
4759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: January 05, 2015, 02:38:38 AM
It needs more people using it everyday as a payment system instead of miners dumping the coin as soon as they're mined.

Exactly. This is why PoS coins without inflation are not falling that much now and even rising BTC-wise.

I really really enjoy PoS tbh.

Only started messing around with them since Just-dice started taking CLAM.

It seems to me it prevents a lot of economy leakage through electric bills and ancient miners (seriously when I look at a miner now days it reminds me of a 1970's printer.)

I imagine you'd have a large number of Bitcoin miners who would be seriously butthurt about PoS.

Seems silly to expect BTC to go global and WANT to give that much money to the fat cat electric companies rather than reward your own kind.

I "mine" about a Bitcoin a day using PoS right now completely eco friendly and no huge electric bill.

Yeah, the PoW system is looking more nutty to me every day. It's not just the wastefulness, scalability, or the equipment cost in upgrades and failures but the fact that eventually it has to become centralized. I have been here through every 51% scare starting with Deepbit and understand this system just can't be controlled with "goodwill" anymore. The arguments for the wasteful energy use are always beaten down with the claim that the modern banking system uses at least that much energy or more to move money around. Aren't we trying to be better than the current system though? The "we're the same as they are" argument just seems stupid to me. I don't know if PoS is the answer but something needs to change.

PoS coins, as good as they are, don't work long term though

They are too unsafe
I don't think the winning system has been designed yet. The main problem with any design is the thing that brilliant scientists can't comprehend because they're too logical, that's simple human nature. Any design will have to completely remove any ability for someone or some group to game it. That may be an impossible task. Satoshi believed he solved that problem by thinking the only motivation for any activity involving money was greed and logical self interest but that's not true. The reality of life is that nothing is ever just black or white. Blackhat hackers spend hundreds of man hours to break into some of the most secure systems in the world for no other reason than to see if they can. Companies will spend a fortune to crush a competitor even if the realized return will never pay for the attack. Governments spend hundreds of billions of dollars on things that don't work. PoW isn't the final solution.

you seem to know all the answers, where's your blueprint for the perfect system?

Working prototype?

or just all yap?

Yes, that's a very popular thing to say here, isn't it? These are just my opinions and the historical fact that people vote with their feet. I don't need to design anything. That's not my job.
