Occasions where the same user merited the same post twice at the exact same time
26 posts received the same number of Merit from the same user in the same second. I assume those "double Merits" were accidental:

That happens if you hit refresh after sending merit. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg29197764#msg29197764

I've never done it but I did receive 1 + 1 for the same post from someone I assume had found that bug/feature.
4762  Other / Meta / Re: Lets Break The QuestionAuthority NOW !!! on: March 07, 2018, 10:16:59 AM
I think that is bad for the forum for this reason.

Merit is supposed to be awarded to encourage good posting, and to provide examples to other members. Awarding a begging post rather than the correct post, not only gives the impression that begging is good, but it doesn't provide the good examples for other members. I appreciate that it's hard when one is awarding for multiple posts, but imho it would be better to award the best post, rather than the begging post.

That is rather missing the reason QA started his thread. He felt that the way merits were initially distributed based only on rank was unfair to higher ranked members who were just about to rank up. Someone like myself who was only a few weeks away from becoming a Hero member was put back to exactly the same position as someone who had only just become a Sr Member.

theymos gave this reply:

I agree with this approach. I considered giving merit proportional to activity, but I decided not to because doing so would probably give far more undeserved merit than deserved merit in total. But undoubtedly some people got screwed by this, and if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.

I also agree with the idea of (free) "reviewer" topics in general, for finding high-quality posts that went unnoticed. Barcode_ created one in the Chinese section, as well.

I think that giving out 20 merit to give those people a leg up based on the posts they already made before the system was introduced is a way of addressing an unfairness and has nothing to do with begging.

Quoted and verified with Electrum 3.1.0

I am seeing a lot of people signing messages with Segwit Address (starting with 3 or b).

There is no standard to verify these addresses.

Electrum is somehow verifying them, but only Electrum, and it's nonstandard.

In future there will a standard for those address, to be verified in any wallet, and not necessarily the same Electrum did. In future those signed messages may not be able to be verified. I think it's better to sign with a legacy address for now.
Nope, once other wallets support bc1 addresses, they will eventually be able to verify those addies.

That's not necessarily the case as there are no standards yet.

There is no standard for signing messages with segwit addresses yet. That's something that is being worked on. Note that messages aren't actually signed with an address. Rather they are signed with a public-private key pair which can correspond to multiple addresses. Your wallet software will calculate the public key for a message and convert that into an address. A wallet could just as easily show you a P2SH-P2WPKH or P2WPKH address instead of a P2PKH address when it is verifying a signed message. What needs to happen is a specification for signing messages with a script which can thus be generalized to signing with an address. Such messages and signatures would actually correspond to addresses and not a public key which your wallet just turns into an address.

Electrum tends to implement their own formats for things and not get them standardized. They have implemented their own segwit private key, public key, seed, and signature format which is specific only to Electrum (the signature format might work with Trezor).

I don't think there is any problem using a bech32 address from Electrum as the forum admins have access to Electrum and will be able to verify your message.
4764  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustadice – Dilution fee lowered to 1% on: March 07, 2018, 06:57:07 AM
Waiting for 30 minutes or one hour is not a problem but for me it takes 20 hours to get queued so I'm little bit shocked because it never happened to me before. And instant withdrawal option is not available for me when I did transaction,so i thought that site was under maintenance.

I just explained to you that you have to wait for the next instant withdrawal to be requested so you cannot control or predict how long that will be. If you don't believe me hover your mouse over the 'i' next to the 'Instant withdrawal' checkbox on the withdrawal page.
4765  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustadice – Dilution fee lowered to 1% on: March 07, 2018, 06:26:41 AM
Yesterday I made an withdrawal from my bustadice account,it takes too much time to get into queued but I never waited this much long before.

So is this just normal or the site was under maintenance or something?

If you opt for the slow withdrawal method there is no queue or fixed period of time. The next time someone requests an instant withdrawal yours will be batched with it. This makes it pure luck as to how long you will wait.
4766  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: March 07, 2018, 06:09:22 AM
If i understood it correctly you can get more than one point per day with a max of 14 points per two week! Is this still the case or has it changed in the meantime?.

Is there any reason you think it has changed or did you just need a question to ask to raise your post count?
4767  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 07, 2018, 06:05:55 AM
Do you have more example?
you just showed me 1 out of 100s of winners

Do you have a pair of eyes to go and look for yourself?

Yup kiddo ive checked & im on my word
lottery seems fake as hell
ive never seen any old user (based on id) win any award. list of winners 99% includes new users.

You need to go to Specsavers. There are far more older winners than 1%. Also, you could try and apply some logic. The site has been around since late 2013 so many old accounts are inactive and there is, therefore, a higher probability that newer accounts will win. Then after that, you could read the 'Provably Fair' tab and follow the instructions. By doing that you would prove to yourself that it is not fake and that would save yourself from looking like an idiot and making false and libellous accusations that you cannot substantiate.
4768  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: March 07, 2018, 05:30:25 AM
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration

can you explain more about this?

Could you explain your question? What exactly is it about 2 week periods you find difficult to understand?

and what about total time login?

That is not mentioned in the OP because it has no effect.
4769  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: March 07, 2018, 05:14:55 AM
It is not worth to play on this site with your money. So don't fall on these marketing tricks and waste your hard earned money.

I'm making a nice profit actually. Thank you for your kind concern about what I do with my money but I shall not be taking your advice.

What I won't do with my money is gamble it at a Casino like Fortune Jack where they have a history of making customers wait months to pay out their winnings. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2489072.0

Help me please. May I use my SegWit-address for verification my account? these adresses look like 1bc.....

Yes, addresses with bc1 could be verified with electrum, just put it in the correct form (including message, signature and of course the matching address)

Thank you) But Electrum gives me the mistake "non-hexadecimal number found in fromhex() arg at position 2". What is wrong?

From that error message most likely a typo in the address. Can you tell us the address? Also, did you create this address in Electrum or import the private key from another wallet?

4772  Economy / Services / Re: ★☆★ 777Coin Signature Campaign ★☆★ (Member-Hero Accepted) on: March 06, 2018, 02:41:11 PM
and you're an expert on this matter because?

Because I spent a few minutes reading through the thread to see how the campaign manager runs it before successfully applying myself a few months back.

And why the unnecessarily not accepting someone? Not sure why my account would not be accepted other than the fact that they werent open for new registrations?

From looking at your posting history I would think you didn't satisfy the campaign manager's requirements for quality of posting, you mostly post one-liners. Also, they are mainly in altcoin threads, as 777Coin is a Bitcoin Casino that's not really targeting the right audience for the advertiser.

You can tell they have open slots by checking the campaign spreadsheet, they remain open because so few applicants meet the required standard.

Thanks for starting this topic because many people including me had those doubt about what merit is ,
It's actually a pretty good step made by the Bitcointalk forum to avoid pointless and irrelevant posts by people who just post for activities.
You can learn everything about merit here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0

Especially those like yourself that just posted the link already provided in the first reply of this thread. The question has been answered there is no need to keep repeating it.

You have forgotten to do two important things.

1) Quote and verify the message before yours.
2) Include the signature for your message.

i wasted my 6 hours for this  Sad

Maybe if you had just spent a couple of minutes reading the requirements you would have saved yourself the 6 hours.

Requirements: you must have 30 more posts than your activity. E.g; if you have 50 activity, you must have 80 posts to be eligible for 5 merits.

From what I've seen so far not spending enough time reading before posting seems to be the biggest obstacle to most Newbies and Jr Members gaining merit.

I also confirm having received this email, so it is definitely true news! My bitcoins were refunded.
But I agree, myfe or wetsuit should post this email also in this topic (and in the topic for micro earnings).
so, did someone figure out a vulnerability and exploit it to increase his chance on lottery or what?
nothing on the site as well, usually they put a notification for important news on the front page

No, it was a problem with the Twitter API.

Quote

Merit is hell of a pain for newbies like us  Kiss

It's meant to be. For anyone that wants to use use the forum as a place to discuss Bitcoin with other enthusiasts their rank, and therefore merit, is completely unimportant.

Just got an email from freebitco.in saying that round 144 was cancelled due to some API issues
Satoshis allocated in tickets where returned to accounts balances, at the ratio of 1:1.
I think it might be true news, why wasn't it posted here as well? The more sources, the more credibility.

Because Myfe isn't very active at that sort of thing. There were some posts about it in the other thread on Micro Earning board after the Twitter update didn't happen. The Lottery page also didn't update so it is definitely true. I got the email early yesterday and can confirm I received the refund for the tickets I had.
