I am using Windows 7 64bit. I downloaded and installed the 64bit versions of python, twisted etc.
There's no problem with the 32bit version using this command line: d:\python27\python.exe D:\forrestv-p2pool-afb1066\run_p2pool.py username password Thanks, Can anyone confirm that all I need to do is uninstall the 64bit versions and install the 32bit versions of all that software? wait... forrestv-p2pool-afb1066? Is there some other version I should be using instead of the one mentioned in the OP?

I followed all the instructions but when I get to the point to run "python run_p2pool.py <rpc_username> <rpc_password>" I get this error: python.exe: can't find '__main__' module in 'run_p2pool.exe'
I am using Windows 7 64bit. I downloaded and installed the 64bit versions of python, twisted etc. ( I think it would also be useful for new users coming to p2pool that the instructions include basic stuff like: put the directory "C:\Python27" in your PATH. )
I will keep mining at the pool I was using before until someone can tell me what I left out. I wonder if p2pool would be the best choice for me anyway with only ~440 mh/s?
Thanks

Is there any issues I should be aware of in doing this? "Be careful you don't do *this* or you will lose everything!" kinda thing...
Just to clarify, you are describing two completely separate wallets, right? i.e., not hoping to copy the wallet and use that for the second instance. Yes, the one with most of my btc will be in a truecrypt directory, which I won't have to access too often. The other will be a daily use wallet with a small amount of funds.

This seems like the kinda noob question that must've been asked and answered many times already but I can't find much direct information in my searches... the kinda question that is, or should be, in some faq for beginners somewhere. But hopefully it is something that can be quickly answered ( or that faq pointed out ) and won't be too much of a bother.
I want to have two wallets on the same computer. I wouldn't need to be running them at the same time.
Is just running the client with the -datadir flag pointed to whatever wallet directory one wanted to access at any particular time the standard/best way of doing this? I know this would require downloading the blockchain twice right? I don't mind that.

It doesn't really cut out the middleman, since in order to get fiat you have to go through a middleman anyway. Most of them are unreliable and charge higher fees than traditional payment processors. The only real benefit I see is no chargebacks. It's not easier to use than paypal, that's just nonsense.
Like you said too, the volatility isn't acceptable right now. I just lost 20% of my income over night due to this dip. Luckily that "only" cost me a few hundred, imagine people who do huge volume.
I say it's easier to use than Paypal... I agree... and safer and less expensive and more satisfying. And there are getting to be more and more places I can use it instead of paypal and/or a credit card. I would love to see my favorite musicians put Bitcoin addresses up on their websites so I can send money to them directly instead of having to go through some parasitic middle agency. I wanted to do that even before Bitcoin when I would download their music... even though in most cases I already bought their music in the form of records, cassettes tapes, cds etc.

Also, OP is a hater.
And you say that with the utmost love and respect no doubt. I don't know why Tom gets such a hard time...

Anything associated with Bruce Wagner I will avoid if possible.
Advertising on his show is a horrible branding move. "Endorsed by a convicted fraudster, so you know it's good!"
What a pompous schmuck.
+1 The only reason I would ever watch his "The Bitcoin Show" would be to see who I should avoid doing business with... and hopefully the sponsors would be listed in the first few seconds so I could avoid watching the whole thing.

Jered is there any way to withdraw money from TradeHill into MtGox or other exchange? Maybe through bitinstant... I'm from Europe and I have USD in TradeHill and I wanted to avoid high fees from a wire transfer + currency conversion.
With no paxum I have no good way of getting my usd out either. If there isn't a way I could transfer it to MtGox could you send me the equivalent in btc? /edit: A redeemable MtGox code would be ideal. And how long is withdrawing btc supposed to take? Isn't it supposed to be almost instantaneous? in process... still waiting... /edit: It just went through. Thanks

And a one button click to do a dropbox backup... seems to be working today. I point new users, who I tell about bitcoin, to here and StrongCoin as good options to keep any bitcoins they get, if they are uncomfortable with installing a client on their own computer.

Hi, do someone know any news about TradeHill's SEPA account?I'm trying to contact TradeHill's admin but i can't. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The general discussion forum may be a better place to ask.

New windows binary (2012_02_05) is out.
Changes:
-- support for proxy servers including socks5 (hint: tor) -- fixed bug in calculation of true target
Anyone know how that can be used to fix the GUIMiner? Just copying the files from poclbm_py2exe_20120205.7z into the guiminer directory doesn't work.

I'm really surprised at how little chatter this thread has. You would think a TON of people would have this problem.
A lot of them perhaps got tired of waiting and moved to cgminer instead.

Why the House Always Wins"Researchers analyzed 27 million online poker hands and found an interesting result: the more hands a player wins, the less money they're likely to collect. The reason, the researchers believe, is that multiple wins are more likely to yield small stakes-but to get those wins, you have to play long enough, and the longer you play the more likely you are to suffer occasional big loses. Turns out, those occasional loses are enough to negate and often exceed the wins. One takeaway from the study is that online gamblers misjudge the variance and uncertainty of the payoffs derived from taking risks, mainly because multiple small wins inflate the players' sense of success." That's not the only reason of course...

so far no problems with my GUIMiner on win7 64 and two other winxp pro 32 GUIMiner v2011-07-01
GUIMiner wasn't working for me on win7 64. I switched back to v2011-07-01 and now it is. But my hash rate has dropped from ~440 down to ~422, so I hope someone finds a fix for the latest version of GUIMiner.

A little Necro action...but... Does anyone know what ever happened to this site ? Are there any other NMC Chart-type sites that I am unaware of ? During this time of NMC-Fail, it would be nice to watch as the trading price of NMC approaches fractions of bitcents Was just wondering the same thing... it doesn't look good for the project that they don't even have something like this anymore...

The real reason he got shut down was megaupload was about to bring out a service where 90% of revenue went back to the artist. Obviously the music industry being what it is they called their mates in the FBI and got it squashed.
source? i know they released that video with all those artists but never heard he was trying to do this Here's one article - http://expertscolumn.com/content/why-megaupload-was-really-shutdown"The requested page could not be found." hmm...

I see only one risk which can affect bitcoin price. It's that bitcoin developers will be seen as a group of untrustworthy sociopaths which are unable to talk each to other. And it's not related to BIP16/17, it's more general issue.

I just watched the documentary Thrive and I think that Satoshi must be an alien! Does the bitcoin network have any properties that could be related to the shape of a torus? j/k That doc should make bitcoiners happy since it suggests people, to help wake up and free themselves, to start using alternatives currencies, among other things.
