481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 15, 2017, 08:54:49 PM
These guys raised so much money that they can easily rest on the islands right now)

Who, the Gold people or the Cash people?
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 15, 2017, 05:55:16 PM
Of course it's a scam. It's a huge cash grab.

99.x% of coins are, they have no real world usage (at least not yet).

Imagine if coins couldn't be traded but only bought and used for buying things.  There would be maybe five coins in existence instead of 1000.
483  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Who picks their own seed words? on: October 15, 2017, 06:55:19 AM
So I got a Nano S.  Since I'm new to it I let it pick the 24 seed words but I'm thinking about trying to pick my own to make it easier to memorize.  Yes yes I'm aware that I can't make it too simple, duh.  But I can envision worst case scenarios where I may be traveling and my Nano gets lost or stolen or broken and it's unlikely I'll have my seed list with me.  Way better to keep it in my head.  Of course there then are issues of how you are going to set up a new wallet but that's a separate problem.  The first problem is simply having the seed words.

So who has done that?   How difficult was it to come up with something?  I know the structure matters so it may not even be very practical.
484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 14, 2017, 11:35:57 PM
Yeah it smells like scam coin! This is not the actual fork of the Bitcoin , i think that the name of this new Forked coin will not be a BTG but completely different than!

Of course it's a fork, the Bitcoin blockchain is going to be snapshotted.   And BTG is the symbol.

I mean, WTH?

485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 14, 2017, 08:19:28 PM
Some interesting news about the impending Bitcoin Gold fork; do not hold BTC on exchanges like Coinbase & Bitpay as you are in great danger of losing your BTC altogether.
Interestingly the Electrum wallet is recommended as a store for your BTC, but no mention if it's good for Bitcoin Gold.

"
The signatories of this agreement wrongly believe that the currency created by adopting this contentious hard fork will eventually become Bitcoin. Therefore storing any BTC on services such as Coinbase, Bitpay and Xapo is strongly not recommended. By storing BTC on these services, you could find that after the hard fork, your BTC has been renamed to something else or replaced entirely with the new altcoin. The best way to ensure that your BTC is protected is to download the latest version of Bitcoin Core and transfer out any BTC stored on services that are a signatory to this agreement. We have listed the businesses supporting this contentious hard fork at the bottom of this document.

For users who aren’t prepared to install Bitcoin Core and go through the lengthy set up process, we recommend a wallet such as GreenAddress, Electrum or TREZOR. Avoid using web wallets like blockchain.info.

This is pure FUD by the anti-2x side.  They are just pissed that big services like CoinBase are going to support SegWit2x.
486  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Nano S problem - can't connect on: October 14, 2017, 07:20:42 PM
Ok I fixed it by deleting and re-adding the ETH app to the Nano.  Anyone else had this happen?

If this happens again I may be dumping the Nano.
487  Economy / Computer hardware / Nano S problem - can't connect on: October 14, 2017, 07:01:31 PM
Got a Nano S last week.  Set up went fine and I even reset and restored to verify my seed words.  But today I tried to connect and open my ETH wallet and it won't open.  The Manager app and Bitcoin wallet do work however.

I rebooted the PC so that's not the problem and tried it on another PC.  This really shakes my confidence in this product.

BTW Ledger, the "Need assistance?" link on the ETH wallet doesn't work, it goes to a broken web link.  I mean, seriously?

Not mining MUSIC any more, ETH is enough more profitable that there is no point.

What's the best miner software for MONA?
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MONA] Monacoin LAUNCHING 2014/01/01 0:00 GMT on: October 12, 2017, 12:45:17 AM
this thing is ripping tonight  Monacoin  MONA $ 1.5903585   +106.69 %

all the better for the mining... man i need to get set up,  have to get my son over her to do it though.  I was set up on ETH  but it took forever to get one coin

It's still not very profitable to mine.  It's only 60% of what I'm making mining ETH according to WhatToMine.
491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 11, 2017, 08:39:47 PM
As a GPU miner I'd really like to see BTG succeed and was excited about it before I learned more about it.  It's really too bad Jack Liao didn't put together a real team and some marketing behind it.
492  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 0.001 Bitcoin Tx Fee on: October 11, 2017, 08:34:18 PM
I'll convert my BTC to ETH to get it off Bittrex.  I'll see what the BTC fee is on Coinbase and Cryptopia.
493  Economy / Exchanges / 0.001 Bitcoin Tx Fee on: October 11, 2017, 07:53:30 PM
Bittrex charges 0.001 BTC for the Tx Fee.  Is that pretty typical?

That's almost $5 now.  That's insane.  I normally move funds around using ETH to avoid the BTC fees but I do need to move some BTC off exchanges to my hardware wallet.
494  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Ledger Nano S question - receiving Bitcoin on: October 11, 2017, 07:44:14 PM
Ah ok, I didn't notice the QR changes when you enter an amount.  Makes sense now.  It's a convenience for the sender when they scan the code.
495  Economy / Computer hardware / Ledger Nano S question - receiving Bitcoin on: October 11, 2017, 07:30:46 PM
Why does the Ledger wallet app in Chrome ask me how much Bitcoin to receive?  It appears to be an optional field since it is grey but why is it even there?

Also on a side note, if you have one of these Ledger hardware wallets, be very careful if you restore using the 24 word seed.  When re-entering each word you only enter enough letters for it to present a list of 2 or 3 or 4 words to pick from (an "auto-complete" type thing).  If you pick the wrong word accidentally it appears you either have to start over or worse if you don't realize you picked the wrong word you now will have a whole different account!

Also did they really have to use a 24 word seed?  12 or 18 would be much more convenient and still perfectly secure.  I don't see any way to force it to use the smaller seeds, is there?
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 11, 2017, 06:10:44 PM
Well probably this is a really scam, and personally I'm not interesting in this anymore. Howewer we can be wrong and it's not scam need more research.
even if it's a scam or not i don't care I just want that free coin and then I will sale it.
And I'm sure you will do it too  Grin

So will everyone else.  You might make $1 for every few thousand you have in Bitcoin.  Hope you don't lose Bitcoin to replay attacks.  Can you imagine what happens if people do lose Bitcoin?
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Conclusion Sapphire RX580 with Hynix are not that bad. on: October 11, 2017, 06:35:35 AM
Asus STRIX RX 580/480's 8GB, Sapphire Pulse RX 580 4GB and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 570 4GB. All were modded using the 'one click timing patch' from PBE v1.6.

Cool, I have a Pulse also and have never gotten over 28 Mh/s.  I'll try the once click patch.
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin GOLD - A well thought Scam? on: October 11, 2017, 06:18:12 AM
It's not even a well thought out scam.  If it was well thought out they would have a nice web site, a real whitepaper, and some well known backers, and at least try to portray a larger dev team.
499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]  🎸🎸Done!  $MUSIC 2.0 (UBI) is here (Please upgrade ASAP) on: October 11, 2017, 03:04:28 AM
Why is the price still dropping if UBI is going to moon it?

this is because bitcoin is rising and with that all alts are dropping at first but after a while the truth  takes all in its hands. HODL and do not bother yourself.

This isn't because of bitcoin. This is just "Buy the rumour, sell the news". Typical in crypto.

Look at all the major alt coins, all coming down while folks sell to buy BTC in hopes Bitcoin Gold hardfork makes them free cash.

Music was at this same point 8-14-2017 and then 9 days later shot up 4x!

Exactly, now is perfect chance to buy music, I think it will gain 400% easy next 48 hours!

LMAO.  That would put it at almost double it's all time high.

Keep dreaming.
500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: October 11, 2017, 02:19:47 AM
How can I exclude one of my GPU's from mining?

I have tried to create a rule but it does not have an effect.  Here's a screenshot of what I've set:

http://prntscr.com/guzzzk

I use the -di command line switch in the templates.   I have certain templates for AMD cards and other templates for Nvidia cards and that is how I control which cards are used in each template.  There may be a better way but this works for me.
