The chances that Carlsen will defend his title are close to zero. He wants a radical change in the format of the championship match, otherwise he will give up the title. Given the fact that all changes are made at the beginning of the cycle, the chances that changes will be adopted now are almost zero. This means that Yang Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren will meet in the championship match.
Few details here.
482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion] Should Gambling be Banned? on: July 18, 2022, 11:42:41 AM
As for harm to oneself, a person should have the right to do so...

Thats when the line between individual rights and possible mental troubles becomes fuzzy, because depending whom one ask gambling could be described as a normal social activity or a mental (or eve spiritual) illness; and it is the job of psychologist and psychiatrists to know where to draw the line.

This reminds me the debate about euthanasia, whether one have the right to die or not, but I think that would be another topic for further discussion on a different board, like Politics & Society.

Purely theoretically, your argument that the decision should be made by professionals seems reasonable. But in practice it turns into nonsense. I don't want "professionals" to decide for me what is good or bad for me and whether I have the right to make myself feel bad. Does this seem like an irrational desire? But if suddenly they start to take away “bad food” from you by force and force you to go to the gym, then you probably won’t like it either, although it seems to be to your benefit.
483  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Most Expensive Thing Bought with Winnings from the Casino or Sport Bet on: July 18, 2022, 11:34:00 AM
While that is an extremely noble gesture to help people in need I must say that I have rarely seen gamblers who after winning big think about people in need.Mostly and also including myself here the gamblers rush to clear mortgage of their home if they have one that needs repayment, then if they don't they move to buy a car,I have seen a lot of gamblers even a couple of friends who have done this and lastly they buy something for themselves or their loved ones like a phone,a watch or something similar. That is why I call yours a noble gesture, you have bypassed all of the above to think about people in need.

I think that charity is mainly done by those who have already solved their problems and their loved ones. This is quite logical. First you need to improve your life, then help others. I think if we had high rollers in our acquaintances who really do not need anything and play just for the sake of adrenaline, then we would meet more people who do charity work simply because they have more opportunities for this. And of course, I respect everyone who does charity work at any level - regardless of the amount of money spent, this causes respect.
484  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can You See Or Tell If A Fight Or Event Is Fix ? on: July 18, 2022, 11:13:59 AM
From my experience, in most cases, gamblers think that event is fixed, while it's actually not. All the signs point to the conclusion that it was fixed when you lost your bet. That's how our brain works.

But, of course, there are fixed events still. I say "still' because there were much more of them in the past, and, surely, there will be much less of them in the future.

Unless you know from some inside info that event was fixed, you can't tell, imo.

The problem is that there is always very little evidence in this area (if we compare the number of suspicious games with the number of athletes who were actually caught on this) and this almost always remains in the realm of speculation (therefore, as you showed, everyone draws conclusions on the basis of subjective impressions). If I remember correctly, even big and massive cases like that Serie A scandal were more based on suspicion and circumstantial evidence than direct evidence.
485  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Russian Premier League 2022/23 Season on: July 18, 2022, 11:01:21 AM
It's a joke? The Russian championship is completely destroyed by the sanctions (foreign players have the right to unilaterally terminate the contract and leave) and will not be of any interest next season, since its level will be very low. As for the return of Russian clubs to the Euro Cups, this can be forgotten in the coming years - even if the war ends tomorrow. This is a long process, plus the championship has fallen very much in its level and it will take years to return at least to the previous level.

What's a joke to you? Do you think UEFA ban will go on for years? Eventually they will remove it and justice will be served. For now Russian players can play, I don't know why some players stop playing. There is no problem with war at the moment. My friends living in Russia also continue their normal lives. There is no obstacle to play the league. There are only problems with foreign players but this can be tolerated for another year.

You write nonsense. It is very interesting to hear from you the opinions of "friends from Russia who are doing well" given the fact that I myself am from Russia and I see with my own eyes what is happening. “We need to be patient a little and the sanctions will be lifted,” I have been hearing since 2014, when Russia started a war against Ukraine, but for some reason, since then, the sanctions have been getting tougher and tougher.
As I said, the Russian football championship is almost destroyed/turned into a circus. There are no prospects for correcting this situation in the coming years.

487  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: People are not only gambling to win but they are buying entertainment on: July 17, 2022, 10:58:31 AM
i agree with you mate. because not all gamblers consider gambling just to get more money but there are also gamblers who really think this gambling is just to entertain themselves without expecting a win.
like me, i am one of those gamblers who doesn't think about winning or luck when playing gambling. i play gambling just to fill my spare time when i am working or on vacation. so that in my free time i am entertained by this gambling and if i get a win i only consider it a bonus and never withdraw the winning money but i use that money to play gambling the next day.
maybe a lot of people don't believe what i'm saying, but it's true.

This is easy to believe because even among those who play for money there are many players who have never withdrawn money, hahaha. But at the same time, they continue to play allegedly in order to earn money and deny that they are addicted to gambling. I act like you (I use the money I win for the next game), but if suddenly I win a really big amount, I will withdraw it.
488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Martingale Betting Strategy on BlackJack, how effective it is? on: July 17, 2022, 10:30:19 AM
I am still hesitant about this betting strategy but my rationality thinks it is possible, at least martingale on blackjack is way better than martingale on any luck/chance-based games. How about you what is your thought on Martingale betting strategy used on blackjack? Is it effective for this type of game?

Bullshit article. I did not see any argument in favor of the fact that the Martingale in Black Jack is in any way different from the Martingale in other gambling games.
There is a simple rule: if you have a winning strategy, then it works without Martingale. If you have a "winning" strategy based on the Martingale, then you are deluded about its winningness and in the end you will lose all the money.

I hope this year we will watch a good season where we don't feel the effects of the war and the players play freely in their teams. I wish that the unfair situation applied in European cups will be corrected as soon as possible.

490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Profitable are Gambling Bots? on: July 16, 2022, 09:19:07 AM
There are many free trusted bots such as seuntji bots and mydicebot, it does not cost you anything to use them. You can even create your own bots if you have the skills, so I have no idea which bots that cost you some money to use them. Bots has nothing to do with winning or losing, it is all about extra features where you cant find in the casino. I'm not surprised why there are people who like to use bots, because they like it for some reasons mostly because of its extra feature and speed.

These are great projects, I tried the seuntji bot and I like that there you can simulate strategies without even playing. But I have never seen anything like it for betting. Maybe you know some external programs that allow you to automate the betting process for a particular bookmaker? I would try such a program because I don’t have the opportunity to sit at the computer 24 hours and follow the changes in the odds, and if we are talking about live bets, they change so quickly that you can’t have time to think and place a bet. Therefore, it would be convenient to first think over your strategy and then set up the bot to execute it.

492  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Most Expensive Thing Bought with Winnings from the Casino or Sport Bet on: July 15, 2022, 07:01:52 PM
Some years ago, I won a decent amount of money from a sports bet. It was the equivalent of $550 in my local currency. I was thrilled. I decided that I was going to spoil myself a little. It coincided with the time Sony announced the price of the new PlayStation 5. The price was the equivalent of $500 in my local currency. I walked into a mall and bought it. I played it a couple of times. One week later, I traveled. I spent 3 months out of town. Sadly, when I returned from my trip, I discovered that my house had been broken into. The PS5 was stolen together with other valuable items. I was upset

What is the most expensive thing you've bought with your winnings from a casino or sports bet that you've never used or used only a few times or even maybe regretted buying?

Some years means > 2 year, right? Plus three months for your trip... You make it seem like this story happened a long time ago, but if I understand correctly, PS5 came out in 2020, so such events should be very fresh in your memory. Maybe you mean some other game console?
As for me, I can’t boast of big winnings, so I didn’t have such stories, although often after purchases I definitely experience disappointment (probably this is common to everyone, since the goal has already been achieved and a new goal is needed).
493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion] Should Gambling be Banned? on: July 15, 2022, 06:52:17 PM
No, gambling should not get banned.
I am the kind of person that believes in individual freedom and rights, every adult should have the right to decide that to do with their hard earned money within the boundaries of law.

After all, a dystopian future is always depicted on media as one which a central authority or government decides for its citizen what they should and should not allowed to do for the sake of their own well being, isnt it?

The important thing is not harming oneself or others with one's actions. Of course, gambling can lead to problems (so can smoking and alcohol) thus it is necessary to partake in these activities in a responsible manner and seek for help if becomes a compulsive necessity. That is my opinion.

The question of harming other people is of course unambiguous - this should not be. As for harm to oneself, a person should have the right to do so. It may sound inhumane, but as you correctly noted, a state that begins to care too much about the "correct" behavior of citizens turns life into a dystopia. Therefore, I believe that a person himself should choose to smoke or not, to gamble or not, etc.
494  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can You See Or Tell If A Fight Or Event Is Fix ? on: July 14, 2022, 04:37:55 PM
I think it is somekinda hard to spot match fixing in football as players can make many mistakes. But if I observe referee making weird decision and changing flow of match I become doubtful. Some referees I am sure get paid through stopping a specific team's good harmony. And also they sometimes give absurd chances to weaker times. These are examples I can observe in football matches in general.

But often players make mistakes in the highest level games (eg Donaruma in the Champions League) and more than one per game. It is hard to imagine that he is involved in a fixed game, there are just such coincidences when two serious mistakes happen at once in one game. It seems to me that the same thing happens with referees, although it's hard to argue with the fact that referees are often biased and often seem to be trying to influence the outcome of the game (especially in the past, since now there is VAR and now it is more difficult to make a biased decision).
495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The digital ID for Gambling on: July 14, 2022, 04:22:56 PM
The database of drivers license and passports are just identity, what governments need now is to get as much money as posible Your properties and bank balances is what they wanted to know and so are the cryptocurrencies you hide.

They wanna know what you have. The farmers in Denmark has issues about this already which they did protest just days ago.
What the WEF meeting is coming true that we the people will soon own nothing and be happy with it.

The story with farmers is 100% the same as the story with nuclear power plants in Germany - they closed them and now in Germany the price of electricity has risen to record levels (it seems ten times in a year). If farmers fail to defend their rights, then after the destruction of the "extra" cows, we will face a similar increase in prices for milk and meat. This is very similar to the plan that the WEF has been trying to implement for a long time - for people to eat artificial meat and bugs.
496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An alternative to gambling with money. on: July 14, 2022, 04:05:45 PM
I think that a gambler that plays with fake money will end up playing with real money.

Otherwise I don't think those fake money apps would exist. They basically use those apps to attract people that haven't gambled with real money yet.

Good idea. The most effective way to lure a person is to give them something free first. But I do not think that all these applications are created for such a purpose - after all, if there is no direct advertising of a casino "interested in the player" in it, then if the player decides to switch to real money, then he can go to a competitor. I am sure that most of these applications are created by developers for the sake of making money on advertising (deposits and money in the game are free, but in order to replenish them more often, the player is usually invited to watch ads).
497  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Conference League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Qualifying 5/07/22 on: July 14, 2022, 03:53:49 PM

So many unknown teams for me. Congratulations on your successful bet. Do you bet based only on the odds provided by the bookmakers or do you do a deeper analysis? It just seems to me that it will be difficult to find serious information on teams from the "small" leagues. Given the peculiarities of the League of Conferences, here among the participants there may be a team from the 2nd or even the third hundred in European football.
498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Threshold of Loss in Gambling on: July 13, 2022, 06:33:51 PM
To be honest, I didn’t really understand the meaning of this study (what new did it discover?) and I would say that the threshold after reaching which the player stops playing is always very different - even for one person. If the salary is still far away and there is already little money, then most likely the threshold will be very low, hehehe. By the way, I had a classmate with probably the smallest loss threshold I've ever seen - he hated to lose, so he basically didn't play competitive games. He never tried arm wrestling even if he was twice the size of his opponent.
499  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Gambling companies can get more uses to deposit. on: July 13, 2022, 06:22:09 PM
This post is based on the article published on the source: Source

The source explores how around 49% of the users would deposit more money based on better withdrawal options. Apparently, the survey conducted by US firms explored various areas that stands really important for people.

The key import things in there were :
1. Choice
2. Experience
3. Privacy
4. Preference

They explored a new idea where having a player, having a traffic doesn't necessarily mean that the site got a new player, they generally didn't account it for until and unless they have made a ' Deposit '

Which necessarily improved when the Gambling platforms had more withdrawal options, things Like: PayPal, Debit Card, Online Gambling, Cash app, Gift card etc. Having the freedom of having so many options improved the players willing to deposit money by almost 49%!!

This is certainly something that the Gambling companies do have to look into since this will go long way, thus changes needs to be made, What do you think, how important this option is for you?

On the one hand, flexible options for withdrawing funds are a plus (for obvious reasons), on the other hand, this may have disadvantages. For example, I am completely satisfied with one option - cryptocurrencies. If I see such options as PayPal, bank transfer and so on, then I am 100% sure that this casino will have a tougher KYC (which I am not completely satisfied with). Everything is very simple here - if the casino has so many options and does not have a hard KYC, then a lot of abusers will appear who will use the platform as a mixer for laundering dirty money. Therefore, we see another confirmation of the fact that the pluses inevitably entail certain minuses.
500  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Type of Gambler Am I? on: July 13, 2022, 06:14:41 PM
52% of the people also selected Casual Social Gamblers in the voting options, which shows that people aren't serious about making money with gambling. I don't know if they have selected the correct option as most of the gamblers want to make money from gambling and they are not for fun/entertainment only.
For all those who have selected "Casual Social Gamblers", I want to ask them a question. Do you feel relaxed even if you lose in gambling? If not, then you do not fall in this category.

Does gambling for fun (and not for money) suggest indifference? It seems to me that no. Obviously if you win it gives you positive emotions and when you lose you get upset. These emotional swings give the final relaxation, everything seems logical to me. Therefore, those who chose this answer are correct even if they are disappointed by losing a bet or two.
Maybe they choose that choice randomly and are not serious about admitting what type they belong to. If so, maybe they really don't want to tell us and we can just let it be. If they really are not Casual Social Gamblers, it means that they just want to have fun from gambling and hopefully they can relax if they get a loss because losing is a common thing in gambling. Do not let your emotions control you regardless of the results you will receive later from gambling because it can draw you deeper into gambling.

It's not about who votes how, but that noormcs5 wrote that if a person gets upset after losing, then he does not fit "Casual Social Gamblers" category. In my opinion, this is an illogical argument and I explained why.

We are just humans then those mood swings could really be inevitably felt by anyone who do decide on engaging with gambling whether you are playing for entertainment or for money then it would give out on the same feels and emotions on the time you are winning or losing.Being a certain type of gambler would be definitely be depending on someones perception and treat towards it.
Some do play for the sake of making money and some do play for the sake of entertainment.

But we cant precisely tell that we are just playing for fun because later on you would really be realizing that you are really getting stressed and impulsive whenever you do experience
losses which is normal.

If we think so deeply, we will come to the conclusion that we cannot be sure of anything and we must look for motives for actions with a psychologist, haha. But I still think that in simple and obvious cases, a person is able to soberly assess his actions and his goals. If we are talking about people with a gambling addiction, then of course this is not the case.
