481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: May 06, 2014, 08:23:16 AM
I would pick Gold.  If shit ever does hit the fan, I highly doubt you will be to trade digital money for basic needs like food and water. With no electricity, bitcoin will be useless.

Hmmm... talking about post-apocalyptic situations, I will agree that gold will be a better option. During the Soviet famine of 1932 (in parts of Ukraine known as Holdomor), fiat money was completely useless, as it couldn't be used to buy food. Those with gold coins / jewelry survived, as they exchanged it for wheat or barley flour. Others perished. Some 4 million died in Ukraine alone, and 8 million more died in Russia and Kazakhstan.  Angry

I don't necessarily mean post-apocalyptic situations.  What about a natural disaster like an earthquake? Any situation where power is out for a long period.  I don't see how bitcoin would be a viable commodity for trade.

Without electricity and an internet connection, bitcoin will be useless as far as I see it.
482  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Begginer BTC Miner Wants Some Help! on: May 06, 2014, 06:22:02 AM
Hey Guys,

Well, after doing a bit of research, I am really considering getting into BTC mining. My only real problem is that I'm in highschool, so i don't have tons of money to invest in this right away. What I want from you guys is a recommendation in to how I can get into BTC mining for like $100-$500 bucks. I realize that's an incredibly small budget to have, but I plan to use this cheap rig to raise me enough money to buy an even better rig that I'll stick with and use long term. I've seen things like raspberry-pi rigs which are kinda cool, but I feel may not be worth it.

Like I said, I'm a beginner, so feel free to leave me some advice!

Thanks Everyone!

At current prices, mining is not profitable.  You are better off buying coin.  Buy low, sell high.  The days of mining are over at this point.  Not sure if it will ever be profitable again.

i've tried to cut down on sugary drinks.. but i still consume them. i like iced coffee, but not too much caffeine. that shit makes me nauseated.

Some people have suggested me to replace sugar with Aspartame. But I refused, saying that at least sugar is a natural substance, while Aspartame is a chemical. Sugar, if consumed in normal quantities is not harmful.

Whats normal though?  There is sugar in everything.  Good choice on staying away from aspartame, but I'd try staying away from sugar as much as possible.  Even by trying to stay away from it, I'm convinced we all still consume far too much of it.

I think New Zealand... it feels so free there.

I've always wanted to go to New Zealand, so did my Father.  I know a friend who has gone there and she says it is an amazing place to see.  One day I hope to be able to take a trip there.  I think it would be very fitting to spread my Fathers ashes there.

He never left any instructions on where to be spread, but I figure that would be a fitting place since he always wanted to go.
485  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Would it still be profitable if bitcoin went down to $1 a bitcoin? on: May 06, 2014, 05:49:03 AM
How could mining possibly be profitable if bitcoin was $1? I don't understand how it's even profitable at today's price. Much cheaper just to buy and sell coins at this point.

Having an ability to count cards is not actually cheating. It’s only called cheating by the big casinos because he can use his knowledge and skill to win money from the houses’ expected “take” from regular gamblers.

Exactly what I was thinking.  It's not like they only use 1 deck of cards, not sure the number, but I know they use multiple decks. I would assume at least 3-5 decks.  I used to date a girl that could count cards so to speak with 1 deck.  I don't really see how that is cheating, it's just really good memory and quick thinking.

Looks like Ben is extremely gifted if you ask me.

This..

Also.... how does one prove you are counting numbers in your head....

I guess they watch your lips move, LOL!

Well it is safe to say the OP is full of shit! It wouldn't be that hard to provide the info to prove it. Then they come up with some lame excuse.

Whats the point of even making a profile to post this crap?  Is the OP that hard up for attention?

One of my favorites is Whistler BC Canada. It's only about a 3 hour drive from where I live.  I'm not much of a skier, but the host lost of cool events every year.  crankworx is awesome every year.  They also have the peak to peak gondola, amazing views.  Heli tours, zip line tours, and hiking tours.  You can also fly down the bobsleigh/luge track during the winter that was used in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

My favorite drink is probably ice tea, not the powdered crap either. I also drink a lot of water.  Try to stay away from any soda, far too much sugar in it

Also, you can't beat a margarita on a hot day.

Not a fan of Basketball, but since I am Canadian I was hoping for Toronto.  Shame they had to lose in game 7 the way they did.

Had to be heartbreaking to lose by 1 point.

I have some Everclear in the freezer which is 95% alcohol
(190 proof in case anyone thinks I can't divide or multiply)
It shouldn't be drunk straight, but I have and am alive to tell.

I've heard of the stuff, it's banned here in Canada I believe. The 190 proof thing reminded me of an interesting memory.  I went up to my Uncles when I was 13, I stayed there for most of the Summer. Hunting, fishing, etc.  He loved his 151 Jamaican rum. I had never touched alcohol at this point.

He was partying it up out by the fire with his buddies, asked me if I wanted a drink.  I said sure, why not.  He gave me a shot of 151. Holy crap! I thought I was gonna die.

I think the worst thing I ever drank though, was moonshine my buddy hooked me up with.

Not sure if anyone has heard about Jim Jefferies, but he has a great take on drinking:

Alcohol was my best friend since i was 14  years old until 3 years ago when it destroyed  my liver .So enjoy your drinks while you can guys,i can\t anymore!

sorry to hear about the liver. At least you're still alive. I've lost a few people over the years to alcohol abuse.  My father died a few years ago from years of heavy drinking.  Was a huge wake up call for me.  Don't drink nearly as much as I used to.

Alcohol was my best friend since i was 14  years old until 3 years ago when it destroyed  my liver .So enjoy your drinks while you can guys,i can\t anymore!

Saddened to hear that. Consumption of alcohol by minors always result in tragedies like this. Anyway... at least you managed to survive the liver disease. I know some of my friends who didn't.
Sadly this days i see kids around 7-10 years old drinking and i stop and try to explain them that is not a good choice and they just ignore me.....and i say wait!that was me years ago ........Sorry for your friends!

I've seen a huge increase in underage drinking where I live. Mostly binge drinking though. Seeing how much they can drink in a short period of time kinda stuff.  I just shave my head. It makes how much I used to drink when I was younger look like nothing.
494  Other / Off-topic / Re: I went fishing for basically the first time ever. on: April 24, 2014, 10:57:58 PM
If i had caught a single fish...! I would have clicked few pics and posted with some images to substantiate my claims :p .. !

Well, you know what they say: a bad day of fishing still beats a good day at work.

Nah, fishing is not for me. It is plain boring in my opinion. You just sit and wait... and sit... and wait for fish to catch bait. It is pure random also. There is no skill involved. You may catch big, fat, fish or little fish it depends on your luck and nothing more...

No skill? LOL! You have no clue what you are talking about. It takes a lot of skill and practice to learn how to catch the elusive fish.

It depends on so many factors.  The time of day, the type of bait you use, how you move the bait, the depth you fish at, etc.

probably far too much than it likely should.  There is a huge part of me that wishes I never started drinking.  I remember hitting the night clubs 6 days a week back in the day and then it was the cold beer store on Sundays.  When I think back to how much I've spent on booze over the years I shudder.

I could easily have bought a house and paid it off years ago.
496  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Browser You Use on: April 24, 2014, 04:40:53 AM
I've been using Firefox for a few years now, but lately it's been giving me tonnes of problems.  I've had to reinstall it a couple times now and it eventually goes back to shit.

I have never been a fan of Chrome, but by the looks of the poll, a lot of people are using it these days.  May have to give it a shot.  Surprised some still use IE, last time I tried it, it was still very slow compared to other browsers.
497  Other / Off-topic / Re: I went fishing for basically the first time ever. on: April 24, 2014, 04:35:08 AM
Fishing is so much fun. One of my greatest memories as a kid was from fishing with my Uncle and Grandfather camping. They grew up in the bush and knew where all the lakes were that only a few people knew about.  There is nothing like camping in the middle of the wilderness where only a few have ever been. Caught the limit for Rainbow Trout all three days we were there. Learned a great deal that weekend, some lessons still stick to this day.

Unfortunately, I haven't been in years.  Just finished my firearms courses, so I see a trip into the bush in my near future.  Fishing will definitely be a priority.
498  Other / Off-topic / Re: Reason Why I Don't Use Hotmail Anymore on: April 24, 2014, 04:05:19 AM
I stopped using Hotmail since Gmail introduced 2FA.

Not a fan of their scanning all emails though ...

Neither am I, which is why I've stuck with hotmail/outlook.  I assume though that all the emails are scanned no matter who you use.

I used gmail for a while but found it to be a pain in the ass, I also had my account suspended. Couldn't be bothered to get the account back after that.

While I consider myself an Atheist, I do believe there could be some type of existence after we die.
