481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchange Bitcoin Key on: January 26, 2024, 05:25:57 AM
The cex cannot give you the private key because if you have address to it and you also have it on the exchange, what is preventing you from buying some alt coin, withdrawing it and at the same time spending your coins with the private key the exchange gave you? This is why exchanges can’t give you the private key.

The mt got hacker, moved the coins to his own address and they are no longer under his control. If the exchange still had access to those coins then they wouldn’t of had to claim bankruptcy. And so far the thief hasn’t moved those coins.
482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if you plan to buy BTC for big money: Would you reuse a tested address? on: January 26, 2024, 05:22:00 AM
I had this fear also back in the day. The way I worked around it was, I would basically sign offline a test message and see if the signatures matched, if they did then it means the coins can be spent.

Another method is just use one address and see if it work to send it back and if it does then send everything else to the next address in your wallet. I understand how you feel, you don’t want to HODL for 10 years only to find out you can never spend this money.
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To any Bitcoin holder who lost their seed: How did you lose it? on: January 26, 2024, 05:18:15 AM
I didn’t lose any bitcoin seeds or coins or wallets but I did for many altcoins. Basically coins like Doge or small amounts of ETH back in the day I would just delete the wallet because it had so little in the wallet it wasn’t worth moving.

This was went dogecoin was like fractions of a penny and when ETH was in the single digits. So instead of sweeping those addresses I just erased the wallet when I was done with it, coins lost forever pretty much.

Also I used to send in whole numbers instead of exact figures. If I had 1.04 ETH or so, I would just send 1 ETH because the rest wasn’t worth typing out.
484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inverse Cramer Strikes Again on: January 25, 2024, 05:30:25 AM
For the past couple of days he was bearish on bitcoin and yet the price still went down, so basically he was correct. Now he is tweeting even more about being bearish and it looks like we might of bottomed, at least temporarily since we got a few days of doji closes.

I find that he flip and flops way too much. He can change his mind every few hours pretty much. We might rally to $42K and he will say “bitcoin going to ath” and we will break down the $39k low that we put in.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi got rid of his private keys? on: January 25, 2024, 05:27:52 AM
I don’t think he has access to his keys or he might of passed away. He would of been a billionaire if he sold his bitcoins and he hasn’t moved a single coin? Who has this kind of control?

It’s also possible that he mined for many years afterwards and is just spending his coins which are further away from the genesis block. Coins mined in 2010 were done by many miners and if satoshi was one of them it would be hard to filter him out. From time to time there is a coinbase block which is spent from those years and maybe it’s satoshi.
486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If satoshi shows he has still controll of all of his coins what would happen ? on: January 25, 2024, 05:22:53 AM
It obviously will be bearish because many are assuming those coins are lost forever. So instead of an actual 19-20M supply, it will be 21M supply implied and bitcoin could correct.

But the bigger issue is that if he moves his coins, it depends how much. If they sends $1B coins to coinbase then obviously it’s bearish and there will be panic. But if he just moves them to a more secure wallet then the panic won’t be as bad.
487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: When GPU mining started for Bitcoin on: January 24, 2024, 05:51:35 AM
I never mined bitcoin with gpus but I mined Litecoin / dogecoin which was scrypt algo and it was very power hungry.

Back then psus were expensive and capacity wasn’t as high as today. The best bang for the buck was a 750Watt PSU. So I had a rig which basically only had 2 Gpus inside it and it was pulling 700 watts. So pretty much at capacity.

With ETH mining, I think with the same Psu I was able to mine with 4 gpus. Crazy how much power they used.
488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Finally I got myself my first real cold wallet on: January 24, 2024, 05:47:02 AM
The issue with these type of hardware wallets is that it’s closed source. You have no idea how it works on the inside. We assumed the ledger wouldn’t be able to retrieve the seed from the device but that wasn’t the case. This is because it’s closed source and we have no idea what it’s capable off.

That’s why you are better off using something like electrum where you can verify the source code yourself. It’s been out for maybe 10 years and it’s been proven to be secure by many people.
489  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin has never pass ATH before halving but it has always dip don't panic. on: January 24, 2024, 05:43:10 AM
Yeah it seems everyday there is $500M worth of outflows from GBTC and another issue is that MtGox is going to start sending bitcoins finally to the debtors.

So most likely the next few months will be bearish or sideways. Eventually the inflows to the other etfs are going to get smaller and smaller. So it’s possible we might see the low $30Ks before the halving and maybe towards the year we might get closer to ATHs.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which is the best ETH L2 network? on: January 23, 2024, 05:47:01 AM
Arbitrium is the largest but the fees can be higher. I think polygon has the lowest fees. Last time I used polygon the fee to send some ETH around was probably 1/3rd of a penny. Only issue is that you need to hold matic because it’s the native token on that chain.

Zksync is fairly new and the fees are similar to Arbitrum. They might have an airdrop so you can use their network and might get some money in the future as a result. They all seem good to me these days.
491  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Kindly Share your trading Stategy. on: January 23, 2024, 05:40:29 AM
One of the best ways to scalp quick profits in crypto is to look at open interest, funding rate and liquidations.

Basically if there is tons of liquidations in one area, it usually reverses right after.

If open interest is going up, then trend will continue, if it declines then trend has topped.

Stare at these charts long enough and you will see how valuable they can be.
492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Rebound This Week on: January 23, 2024, 05:37:29 AM
Today was another nasty day. I assumed that $40K would hold and that we would get a cleaner candle close. However we dumped below it and the candle we made was very bearish.

There is still hope if $40K holds. I think Ftx is done selling and there should be less sell pressure, hopefully. Problem now is that many are panicking seeing $30sk bitcoin and many will just sell out of fear.
493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 1st and 2nd version on: January 23, 2024, 05:34:48 AM
If you have any old wallet.dat file and you forgot the password there are some legit services out there that can help you recover your lost bitcoins for a certain fee or percentage.

Becareful if anyone DM you because it could be a scam. Search this forum for password recovery services and pick someone with good reviews.
494  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin’s Slide Below $40K Amid FTX Liquidation and ETF Turmoil on: January 23, 2024, 05:29:52 AM
Bloomberg had the most accurate report about the Ftx liquidation. It’s true they were selling GBTC but it was only for the first 3 days after the etf was launched. So what was sold today wasn’t for Ftx. Unless they get more shares which I haven’t read about.

Overall we are still like $1B in net inflows but the price keeps dipping. I think people are just throwing in the towel and want to take profits now rather than wait and have it touch the $30K or head lower.
495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Saudi Arabia 1M BTC BUY !! on: January 23, 2024, 05:26:36 AM
I’ve been hearing about investments from the Saudis for a few years already. It seems that every few months someone makes a tweet and then people get the word out and it spreads and people think it’s real.

Basically $500M is nothing for those countries, so it’s possible they might invest, especially after the etf has been approved. But until we get something concrete then it’s nothing but a rumor.
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / When GPU mining started for Bitcoin on: January 23, 2024, 04:03:44 AM
Saw this cool animation when GPU mining went live for Bitcoin back in 2010.

Quote

Anyone around back then? How was the GPU mining software released? Was it released in secret or was it just released for the public.

Watching that animation its crazy how we had 2.5 minute block times and the difficulty adjustment was capped at 300% (set my satoshi apparently).

Man sure would of liked to know about bitcoin back then.
497  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do You Believe, "Passive Investors Make More Than Active Investors?" on: January 22, 2024, 06:07:16 AM
Yes passive investors do more money than active. Any type of retirement account out there is pretty much passive and the way the stock market has been running the past 20 years or so has made it very difficult to beat active trading.

There are some firms that make more money but most retail investors don’t. Especially in the long time frame. It’s just much easier to buy some index fund and wait rather than jump in and out of positions.
498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Post-ETF effect: Has Bitcoin Bottomed yet? on: January 22, 2024, 06:03:44 AM
It will probably bottom when they don’t sell $500M worth of bitcoins every day. So far every day it’s been half a billion. We are able to absorb most of this with the inflows from the other etfs but eventually these inflows will start to decline more and more.

So they either need to sell less or the market needs to buy more of the shares for the etfs to generate enough inflows. It’s looking very bearish especially at the Asian open and we are just dumping towards the $40k area.
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Rebound This Week on: January 22, 2024, 05:54:21 AM
Well it doesn’t look like a good start to the week. We are currently at like $40700 and looks like Friday’s low might get tested. What we don’t want is the $40K to break and we end up in the $30k areas. It’s scary because we all know that when Monday morning arrives that GBTC will be dumping their coins.

We want to see $40K level hold. It’s strong support. However it’s looking pretty bleak right now since we are so close to breaking this level. We will see how tomorrows NY session goes.
500  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: No one has gone broke taking profits, always take profits. on: January 21, 2024, 06:15:43 AM
Yeah I took some partial profits before the etf approval. Because when I heard that 95% of people think it’s going to be approved, I assumed it would get rejected. I was wrong here but the price acted like it got rejected.

I don’t think anyone sold when it launched. Many were expecting new ATH or at least $50K. The whales and institutions got out at the top while everybody else held and are sitting at a huge decline compared to selling at $49k pretty much.

Many people got greedy and this is why this happened.
