481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Latest Controversy on: May 16, 2014, 02:03:30 PM
The controversy and chaos that seems to shadow Bitcoin continued this week as several members of the virtual currency's biggest advocacy group, Bitcoin Foundation, resigned during its annual meeting in Amsterdam to protest a new director's election.

According to various reports, the members resigned because they were unhappy with Brock Pierce, 33, a controversial actor and former Disney child star that the foundation appointed as a director.

Some of the people who resigned expressed concern with Pierce's past history, which the new organization said included allegations in past lawsuits that he provided drugs and alcohol to minors and pressured them for sex, Reuters reported.

The report also quoted Pierce's response to those allegations by telling Reuters in an email, "The allegations against me are not true, and I have never had intimate or sexual contact with any of the people who made those allegations."

So why did you post this?

I'm glad you have learnt from this, even if that is all you can take away.

Absolutely!  Whether this all turns to crap or not, the day all the scam accusations started I immediately realised that I had failed on many points of the due diligence that I should have undertaken.  I immediately started writing them all down and the result was a very good lesson in investing!  At the time I actually came to the conclusion that the 1BTC 'fee' that I had paid for my lesson was money well spent! Smiley

I've faced bigger losses, so yes not too bad.

Always establish what the funding is for, why they need that much and make sure you know who it is.

All users reported that they cannot withdraw any money.
Only you could. This seems to be really suspicious.

You're the owner/operator/scammer
Fullish lie. I'm not affiliated with HKCEx or anyone from this project

What the fuck is going on here.

Brand new account called masterBit9 calling bitmaster8 a scammer.

Next he'll be saying he tested it and it worked for him.
485  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [IPO] CoinPal - Crypto-Currency Exchange & Profit Switching Mining Pool {NEW} on: May 16, 2014, 12:21:58 PM
A lot of that isn't communication, its just lack of intelligence pure and simple. Communication is how not what.

Also you just send we didn't have all the information, why would you invest in something that you don't have all the information for?

As for benefits, I mean why would you use his exchange over any of the others.

486  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Btc-Banker.Com new hybrid cloud, safe and profitable wallet on: May 16, 2014, 12:07:00 PM
This is a clear scam to run off with funds.

No plan of how you will make money, you say you are bitcoin millionaires. Just because you are bitcoin millionaires doesn't mean you want to give your money away.

Just thought I'd help anyone not following this:

THIS IS A SCAM

Blatant bullshit. This is the only announcement for a bitcoin exchange. You are running this scam and everyone knows it.

Do not insult our intelligence by saying otherwise.
488  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [IPO] CoinPal - Crypto-Currency Exchange & Profit Switching Mining Pool {NEW} on: May 16, 2014, 11:59:41 AM
He doesn't seem particularly competent to myself, also communication is not difficult.

"Update #2, server is up and running, test site looking good so far. On target for one month release"

Also he seemed to try to be anonymous. You cannot run a bitcoin business anonymously. People need recourse.

What evidence do you have to support your lack of competency theory?  Don't confuse lack of competency to normal project delays, virtually ALL projects have delays and unforeseen issues which can sometimes be difficult to work around.

Agreed on the anonymous comment, but again, poor people skills might explain that.  In any case, he is no longer anonymous so we'll never know if he was intending to reveal his identity in time or not.
I can point out how he is incompetent in several ways.

  • Firstly communication. That is something rather simple, here is a lesson on how to be transparent. https://www.mimex.co.uk/wp/
  • No details for developers, or any real specifications for the exchange.
  • Original logo was not only awful, but infringing on trademarks. Either have no logo, or have a good one.
  • Taking on far too many products, better to do one thing properly.
  • Tried launching another alt-coin exchange without any real explanation of its benefits.
  • Trying to raise far more money than would ever be needed for the exchange and multipool. Then decided to get mining equipment.
  • Didn't even give any information on energy costs/power capabilities for the mining.
  • Didn't reveal things like identity from the get go.
  • No idea as to what he actually does/his abilities. Thats kind of painful.

Thats a start.
489  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [IPO] CoinPal - Crypto-Currency Exchange & Profit Switching Mining Pool {NEW} on: May 16, 2014, 11:48:20 AM
I'm fairly sure of it.

I feel a little guilty though, when this was first posted I wrote a lengthy two page tear down of this business and then decided against posting it. It quite possibly would have prevented other people from getting dragged into this mess.

Well, this is the debate isn't it, and has been from about page 2.  Personally, I see a typical skilled person who is not good with people (as is the case with many, many skilled people that I have known over the years).  To me Ryan G is not acting like a typical scammer.  Does he have atrocious communication?  Without a doubt.  Does this alone prove that he is a scammer?  Of course not.

At the end of the day, as far as I can see, his lack of communication is the ONLY 'evidence' we have against him.
He doesn't seem particularly competent to myself, also communication is not difficult.

490  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Crypto-Auctions.com - Free Listings! Bitcoin and Integrated Escrow on: May 16, 2014, 11:46:10 AM
Some more most likely unwelcome advice:

Drop GDN, it makes you look shitty. If you want people to be able to pay with alts, keep the bidding in BTC and then use coinpayments to automatically convert into BTC. That should be fairly simple and it keeps everyone happy.

Drop the three images at the bottom (BTC accepted, verified and secured, GDN accepted). We know, the website is called crypto-auctions and everything is denominated in BTC.

Allow $/£/€ denomination on auctions. Some people like that.

Get rid of "share this" thing. It looks 2005 more than anything, your users no exactly how to share your website, don't insult them.

Buttons, why the hell do they have a PCB layout to the left of the text. It looks awful, make it flat. Its very easy to make buttons look good using some simple transitions.

Get rid of all of this code "<td width="16"><img src="themes/v6/img/db_bg.gif" width="16" height="30"></td>" and then change the CSS on class db to height:100% and throw in some transitions, on hovers etc.

Get rid of any sort of gradients. Keep it simple, its too busy.

I guess I can't complain since I got it for free, my ROI is effectively infinity! Cheesy
You had to buy 1,000 shares in CoinPal. Those are now almost definitely worth less, thats like saying "I paid for three years tuition at college and they gave me a free book!"

Sure, I guess you could possibly argue that, only time will tell for sure Smiley

I'm not sure what to think of this one, it could well be a scam to just run away but equally it could be a profitable business.

My first point is your website is awful to load. I am not exaggerating when I say it took 17 seconds to load on my computer. I would advise using a server in central Europe, and make it a VPS not a GoDaddy shared hosting package.

These can be very cheap and will perform far better.

As for ensuring/preventing this from being a scam we would like to know who you are, and have some details on the business.

That's are security checks I think
I've made a withdrawal for 1088 LTC and got it to my purse after 18 hours.
Contacted support - they told that it was first security check and now all crypto withdrawals will be instant.

They're meant to be used in large quantities. Typically in USB hubs 20-40 in size. It's a poor man's ASIC if you got enough.

Sure, but even 100 of these is still only going to ever give you 1 BTC, so from a ROI perspective it just doesn't seem to be worth it!
USB miners have always been a collectors item/hobby
498  Other / Archival / Re: [CounterParty] IPO announcement. Mimex - UK bitcoin exchange on: May 16, 2014, 11:02:54 AM
Is this still legit? I was thinking about investing but yesterday in my counterwallet your buy btc bids disappeared. Now its back up. Plus there has been no activity here in a day.

Any updates for potential investors?

Also what happens if you don't sell all the shares? What happens if you don't even get anywhere close to what you need? What happens to those who bought your asset?
Yes its still legit, counterwallet orders automatically expire after a while.

As for not getting close to what we need, we will. We're not far off it and even if we can't raise it this way we have other methods.

Should be a big announcement next week.
499  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Introducing CoSign.Co.In - A Multi-Signature Bitcoin Escrow Service on: May 15, 2014, 07:56:30 PM
Hi there,

interesting service but the interface looks a bit over-technical.

There are other services who describe the way how to do it better... Can you please extend the documentation?

m.

I found out how.

The pubkey you can get from bitcoin-qt by typing in "validateaddress *youraddress*" however the address must be in bitcoin-qt.

500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardbit hardware wallet? on: May 15, 2014, 06:33:26 PM
I just ordered 4 of them .
Payment was accepted and got a mail from them that they will be shipped on Monday .

Will post the unboxing here .

There is not much info on hardbit.cn . I mean no technical data and stuff .
But i hope its open source , or it will be hard to trust them .

Also , open source will help us install some cool wallpapers and BTC receiving and sending sounds , I guess !!

It , looked good , could not resist myself , so ordered 4 of the .
Hope they turn out good .

I paid for 2 plastic Trezors in Sep. last year , have received nothing , and they have asked for 12 more weeks .
And those were 1 BTC each , these are damn cheap with cool display and rugid body .

Though , i wonder , how's its battery life .

At the time 1 BTC was $100
