When a person asks for something that appears suitable only for nefarious purposes, they need to be prepared to explain why they need such a thing. Your question is suspiciously like "What gun do the police have the hardest timing getting fingerprints from?"

Wow, totally echoed my thoughts as I read that. All kinds of things spun through my mind.

Soggy, no offense intended, but this does sound like something sinister in the works.

I don't see anything wrong with it - am a total n00b at this and hate being a n00b since I'm by no means Internet stupid, so I joined feeling a bit cranky and frustrated with myself for not knowing what to do once I had Bit Coin downloaded and the donation requests actually made me smile.

And no, I'm not encouraging it, but gosh, you have to just let people be who and what they are. If you don't care for it, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to pay attention to the requests. Just sayin'.  And who knows, maybe someday you'll have a pile of bit coins and someone will help or inspire you and you'll be inclined to share a fraction or two of one of your coins! Wink  It could happen!

Thanks, V - checked out a couple links from the wiki.

I'm still confused but I sure see the importance of securing the wallet.

From what I can gather after reading a ton of material, it seems you can try selling any product or service you can dream up, correct?

but be careful there are also scammers around. many people don't want to trade with someone without some track record and positive rating so its not so easy to find someone willing to sell you bitcoins directly.

This is what worries me...I'm honest. I don't want to be screwed nor do I want to screw anyone but how do I prove that as a newbie to bit coins? No one is going to trust.  Sad

We live in such a nasty world.

That's a good question (sorry I don't have an answer for you!).

I was also curious about all these people that advertise to say, "like" a facebook page or "follow" on twitter. I forget the site link but I saw a bunch of people actually offering this for a percentage of a bit coin. Anyone really do this?

Sorry to hear that, Daveid, that's just awful. I wish people wouldn't do stuff like that. It's SO nasty.

Well, even as a brand new n00b, now I know (if I ever get bit coins) to get that wallet.dat off my computer. I have to read that info again but it sounds awful important.

That classifieds site looks nice. Anyone have any luck using it?

In another post, I had mentioned more reasons why it's very discouraging for newbies to enter the bitcoin scene (from my perspective of course). Without newbies, there won't be newer markets.

Have to agree on that note - am a newbie myself and it's very difficult to "get going". The more I read the more confused I'm getting!

But I'm not giving up, that's for sure. I think there's potential here and it's an exciting, too.

Interesting idea.

Say, where IS the wallet.dat? I just downloaded bitcoin and am trying to learn and have been looking for a couple hours for an answer - all over the wiki and here and on my computer, too - can't find wallet.dat.

I, of course, have no bit coins yet - will I get one if I can figure how to get a coin? Thanks and sorry for being a dumb n00b. I'm not computer illiterate by any stretch but this one got me good.
491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What you don't know about bitcoin... on: June 24, 2011, 03:43:00 PM
Wow, glad to see that was a bunch of drivel. I'm new to bitcoin and here and reading that was making my head hurt - still trying to figure out where my wallet.dat is and along comes this nuttery.

Thanks all for the smiles. Some people just love to be an arse, huh.  Tongue
