Good start by Indians on day three . Grabbed 3 quick wickets , including 2 set batsmen but now seems like NZ are back on track as Ronchi and Santner are building up good partnership . I think they can reach 350 in this innings and this match is gonna end as draw. Still first session and lots of time left to play for NZ , they shouldn't rush.

New Zealand will find it tough to bat in the fourth innings.
If India can get the remaining 5 wickets out quickly, India might be able to win this match.

I was talking to a colleague of mine working at Intel(not the Indian office). Even they are working on blockchain technologies but only in the financial sector. Does anyone know what kind of projects is Wipro working on ?

I doubt if it would be anything other than the financial sector.
It is only in financial services that there is interest in blockchain implementation right now, to cut costs.
Thats true, but there are a lot of other uses for the blockchain as well. One example was the voting system that can be implemented using it.

That might be true if the Company was involved in cutting edge technology.
Our IT companies depend on outsourced work.  Smiley

Accenture breaks blockchain taboo with editing system

http://www.business-standard.com/article/reuters/accenture-breaks-blockchain-taboo-with-editing-system-116092001067_1.html

Accenture is challenging a defining feature of blockchain, its immutability, by patenting a system that will allow data processed and stored using the technology to be edited.

The consultancy said on Tuesday data would only be edited under "extraordinary circumstances", in order to resolve fat-finger-type human errors as well as to meet legal and regulatory requirements and address wrongdoing.

Blockchain users were quick to criticise Accenture's move, which is the latest investment by the financial services industry in the nascent technology, which promises to cut costs, reduce settlement times and increase transparency.

US federal judge rules that Bitcoin is money in JPMorgan hack attacks case

http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/us-federal-judge-rules-that-bitcoin-is-money-in-jpmorgan-hack-attacks-case-336165.html

Bitcoin qualifies as money, a federal judge ruled on Monday, in a decision linked to a criminal case over hacking attacks against JPMorgan Chase & Co and other companies. U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan rejected a bid by Anthony Murgio to dismiss two charges related to his alleged operation of Coin.mx, which prosecutors have called an unlicensed bitcoin exchange.

Murgio had argued that bitcoin did not qualify as “funds” under the federal law prohibiting the operation of unlicensed money transmitting businesses. But the judge, like her colleague Jed Rakoff in an unrelated 2014 case, said the virtual currency met that definition. “Bitcoins are funds within the plain meaning of that term,” Nathan wrote. “Bitcoins can be accepted as a payment for goods and services or bought directly from an exchange with a bank account. They therefore function as pecuniary resources and are used as a medium of exchange and a means of payment.”

A bit of change: Indians using bitcoin to trade, shop, even pay for pizza

http://www.hindustantimes.com/more-lifestyle/a-bit-of-change-indians-using-bitcoin-to-trade-shop-even-pay-for-pizza/story-VCnrDmUeElaZIgNoKlDhKP.html

Vishal Gupta’s ears ring with the sound of coins he can’t touch. The 34-year-entrepreneur was gifted a single bitcoin, then worth a mere Rs 3,100, back in 2011 and it got him hooked on to the idea of virtual money. Today, one bitcoin is worth close to Rs 40,000 and Gupta is waiting for India to realise that the currency is valuable not just in itself, but also for what it’s starting to represent.

It’s been around only since 2009. It circulates only as strings of code through a network of servers across the world. But Gupta believes bitcoin is the ideal monetary system for our connected, wired, post-recession world. “Cash is unwieldy and unsafe. Cheques and credit cards need banks,” he points out. “But banks are incentivised to take risks, so they keep making a mess and get bailed out at the literal cost of the people.”

Blockchain: The next big thing in technology?

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/security-tech/technology/blockchain-the-next-big-thing-in-technology/articleshow/54375401.cms

Blockchain technology, seen as a critical element of the next technology revolution, is also being referred to as 'the next Internet.' From finance to retail, publishing and a host of other unlikely candidates, the technology is expected to offer unique solutions across industries.

On October 31, 2008, the then & now pseudonymous inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto published a paper titled, 'Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System'. Contained within it was the design for a technology that would not only make the cryptocurrency work but also proliferate with ease. The Blockchain was formally introduced to the world.

Why was this not possible though bitcoin or Ethereum Smiley

I think this should be possible using ethereum, given that it is nothing but a smart contract.
Ideally, the monetary part of such transactions should be settled using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

Next banking disruption lies in one, open online ledger

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/next-banking-disruption-lies-in-one-open-online-ledger/articleshow/54325221.cms

Imagine being able to avail a home loan almost as easily as obtaining a loan for buying white goods in an appliance store. Or, having a refund credited to your account within minutes of a failed transaction or cancellation.

This would be possible once banks begin to use the underlying technology of bitcoins called blockchain. Today, bankers spend much of their energies in establishing contracts, ascertaining identity and going through records to check whether a certain transaction did take place in the past. The technology that has the potential to address these problems is blockchain — an electronic public ledger that records virtual currency transactions which cannot be tweaked or deleted.

Wipro Ltd has set up a research facility to develop software applications using blockchain, the technology behind virtual currency Bitcoin.

India’s third largest software firm has partnered with a few start-ups to scale up the business and is in the midst of completing a few so-called pilot projects.

Wipro’s push into building applications using the blockchain technology makes it the third outsourcing firm, after Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), and Infosys Ltd, to embrace the database technology.

Bitcoin technology is starting to seep into the electricity business, shaking up the way payments are managed every time a light switch is flipped.

From New York to Vienna, researchers and utilities are adapting the cloud-based ledger system used to track bitcoins as a replacement for slower administrative systems that require constant human input and multiple spreadsheets. Once set up, the database, called blockchain, automatically records individual actions within a system, formats them, and stores the results in a secure online listing available to anyone anywhere with access

IT will be the key for GST to become game changer

http://blogs.economictimes.indiatimes.com/et-commentary/unchain-by-blockchain/

For a smooth roll-out of GSTN, states have hammered out a consensus on a common portal providing three core services: registration, returns and payments. However, with rapid technological changes, the need for speed, flexibility and transparency, burgeoning societal expectations coupled with complexities in value exchanges, the existing governance structure and paradigm are under severe stress. They now require global-scale platforms for value exchange, or ‘blockchain technology’, the disruptive technology that underpins the bitcoin economy.

Blockchain is a method of recording data, a digital ledger of transactions, agreements and contracts distributed across several hundreds or even thousands of computers around the world. Digital records are lumped together into‘ blocks’, then bound together cryptographically and chronologically into a ‘chain’ using complex algorithms. It can be used like a ledger, which can be shared and corroborated by anyone.

System to track funds for digital currencies like bitcoin to launch soon

http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/system-to-track-funds-for-digital-currencies-like-bitcoin-to-launch-soon-334057.html

A London-based start-up said on Wednesday it would launch the first fund to track an index of digital currencies such as bitcoin in the coming weeks. DLT Financial said it hopes the tracker fund will make such currencies a more attractive investment asset class. The new company was spun out of fintech start-up Tramonex, which earlier this year received a 250,000 pound ($333,000) grant from the government to develop a new prototype for currency settlements using the technology that underpins bitcoin.

The index comprises 10 cryptocurrencies – so-called because they use cryptographic signatures to keep the transactions secure. As well as the original cryptocurrency bitcoin, the index includes ether, the digital currency that powers blockchain platform Ethereum, and Ripple, a digital currency designed for bank-to-bank payments.

Will digital casino brands accept Bitcoin payments?

http://cio.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/corporate-news/will-digital-casino-brands-accept-bitcoin-payments/54260686

It is a billion-dollar question as to when the big digital online casino brands will start accepting regular Bitcoin payments. If you want Bitcoin payments to be accepted by online casino giants, then the relevant companies should ensure the safety of the transaction. If there is no safety, then you will be left with nothing. The entire money will go into the hands of hackers. Even though Bitcoin is an acceptable form of payment for online casinos, the relevant bank should ensure safety of the transaction. When people trust banks, their hard-earned money should not be looted by cyber criminals. In addition to Bitcoins, the online casinos should ensure safety for other transactions as well.

The transaction guaranteed the export of almost $100,000 worth of cheese and butter from Irish agricultural food co-operative Ornua -- formerly the Irish Dairy Board -- to the Seychelles Trading Company.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/forget-bitcoin-theres-a-new-digital-currency-that-is-surging-named-monero/articleshow/54024081.cms

The two-year-old currency Monero has more than quadrupled lately after gaining support from prominent websites that anonymously peddle drugs. It spiked to as much as $10 after a popular site, used to buy drugs like liquid LSD and hybrid cannabis, said it will accept the currency. The total value of all Monero in circulation pushed past $100 million in the last week of August, up from about $25 million at the end of June.

Bitcoin, the most popular digital currency in the world with a total value of $9.1 billion, also allows users to move funds discreetly and uses a network of miners to verify the authenticity of each trade. But its privacy has come under threat as governments and private investigators increase their ability to track transactions across the bitcoin network.
