481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH becoming the biggest leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin has no future. on: July 20, 2017, 02:24:53 AM
ETH is going up fast everyday, now it has the market cap 60% of bitcoin.

It has no doubt ETH will become the biggest and new normal standard as CryptoCurrency and displace bitcoin aka "Chinacoin" before the end of July.

Once again, 2 different things are being compared together with barely any evidence. I guess you are posting this, since you just saw a big fall in prices from bitcoin, and it even dipped under the 2K mark for a day.

Lets just compare the 2 currencies

Bitcoin is a decentralized currency, while ETH is a centralized option
Bitcoin introduced blockchain technology, while ETH built off it and added a couple of more features
Every alt coin requires Bitcoin to function, in order to exchange, and that can't be said for ETH

Also, Segwit almost certainly be activated, especially with over 80 percent support for it, and there is a high chance of Bitcoin prices rising heavily after the hard fork being activated.
482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in College??? on: July 20, 2017, 01:34:01 AM
Bitcoin as a course or any related currency on web.
In my country we have multiple courses in computer especially programing and web developments. My course is also information technology, but i've never heard or learn about online currency as bitcoin. In present, and future studies is there any chances for inserting about it in education. In your country is it available?
It would be better for any country to adopt bitcoin in educating new generations. Instead of playing games and wasting money in surfing xxx sites.

I have seen threads that have discussed the possibility of adding a new Crypto section to high school economics or a college/uni course. I would vote for something like that since right now a lot of jobs are being replaced by robots and newer things. The cryptocurrency world is a new version of ecomonics and people need to pay attention to it.

If you would receive credentials from a college, backing that you, saying have knowledge in the crypto world, it could lead to better job opportunities.

This would be hard to implement though since changing the curriculum of the entire education system would have to have heaps of support and a willing government to back it.

Could be nice to see this implemented in the future though.
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what determines the value of BITCOIN?? on: July 20, 2017, 01:14:32 AM
Hi folks,

As a newbie of this group,  i would just to clarify things with regards to the factors or what are the reasons why bitcoin will increase or vice versa. How can I determine the value of the bitcoin? Is it the prices of cryptocurrencies are driven by the laws of supply and demand—if more people want to buy, prices increase; if more people want to sell, prices decrease. Due to the nascency of and uncertainty surrounding cryptocurrencies (e.g., regarding regulation, technical challenges, enterprise adoption), supply and demand fluctuate wildly and hence, prices become volatile.
thank you for the enlightment!
Happy earnings! Grin

Most of every thing that relates to the price of bitcoin has already been said but I'll try add to the conversation. Supply and demand is definitely a big aspect of bitcoin and there is no doubt that it affects the price of bitcoin.

Something else that strongly affects the price of bitcoin is social media. When influential people say something about bitcoin, people will be interested in it. Say your daily news recommended you to invest in bitcoin. The price would obviously rise since demand for bitcoin will grow.
484  Economy / Speculation / Re: Should I cash out my BTC now? on: July 19, 2017, 11:51:30 PM
Well, the decision of cashing out truly depends on you. The recent big event that is happening is the hard fork or segwit. A lot of people right now are currently selling their Bitcoin and then rebuying it after August the first. August the first will be a huge date for Bitcoin, and if it determines the entire future of Bitcoin. Right now, while bitcoin is still slowly recovering the support for segwit has been higher than 80 percent so it looks like segwit will actually go through.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why use Bitcoins ? on: July 19, 2017, 11:10:27 PM
Why use Bitcoins ?

I keep seeing threads on “why don't people” ? The real question to me is Why would they ?

-The average consumer will go way out of their way to save money. Bitcoins cost more.
-The average consumer will usually pay a little extra to have convenience. Bitcoin is less convenience and more hoops and complications.

I just cannot see any reason for the average consumer to use Bitcoins. Until average consumers start using Bitcoins they will just be an experiment and a small speculative bubble.

I have my personal reasons, I am interested Bitcoins them as a tech person, speculative investor and person that follows evolving treads and markets. I am just struggling to see any.. benefits for the average consumer at this stage.

Like all other currencies bitcoin is a storage of value and can be used to trade and buy other items of the same value. Bitcoin is also super useful to pag fornthings in bulk since the transaction fee is usually the same while for other payment methods there wouldn't be a fixed fee. Also other payment methods will take longer than bitcoin, especially for bank transfer which can take up to a month, while bitcoin transactions finish within the hour. Bitcoin is also an investment option and can be used for long term investing.
486  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will be the maximum cost of bitcoin in 2017? on: July 19, 2017, 10:00:32 PM
What do you think?

A bit in the wrong thread, if you posted this in speculation it would be better and you would get more answers probably. Well I am pretty sure you know what will happen on August the first, where most likely the hard fork will happen and then if it goes well, I can expected bitcoin growing 500 in day. So I guess the maximum price for bitxoin would be 4000 USD at the end of 2017.
487  Economy / Economics / Re: Could a country survive and maintain economic stability if it phased out cash? on: July 19, 2017, 10:43:34 AM
If a country entirely phased out cash and replaced it with digital currency would it become destabilized?

Firstly for that to happen, the entire country would have to be super advanced, and the only country that I think could do this would be Japan. The country would only become destabilized if the currency that they swapped to was decentralized such as bitcoin, or not made by the country itself. For fiat currencies to go, people need to be trusting in the new currency and it would have to have clear benefits over fiat currencies.
488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where are the real bitcoiners? Those who wanted to fight against the banksters? on: July 19, 2017, 10:35:57 AM
I'm sad, I don't see bitcoiners anymore. Everybody only talk about money, money and money.
When I begun in 2012, I remember a lot of people talking about to figh against banksters and centralizations. Satoshi were our god and their ideals our bible but now Money is the god and I'm the atheist in the middle of this church full of newbies, haters, dumbs and greeddy's people.

Where are them?

The real bitcoiners have already given up, since they have released how futile it would be for them to destroy the banks. The first investors would include people who probably just liked the idea of decentralization and invested when bitcoin was only a couple of cents and had no chance of going anywhere. We can't live without centralisation since people have been living on that idea for thousands of years.
489  Economy / Speculation / Re: Holy crap we're going to crash through $1900! on: July 19, 2017, 08:42:25 AM
Woke up this morning to the craziest dip in a while. Was high time a correction like this happened. Aug 1 might be a blessing in disguise, getting all of this speculation money out of BTC and bringing it to a value that is in line with the technology. I'm predicting we drop below $1900 in the next few hours. Who knows how low it will go before Aug 1!!

Well the price of bitcoin did fall super low recently and I am pretty the reason for that to to happen was because off all the pre segwit FUD and how everyone thought that segwit would kill bitcoin even thought it didn't. After bitcoin fell and recovered, as it recovered surveys revealed that the support for segwit had risen and that has to mean something.
490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Scaling Flowchart on: July 19, 2017, 04:05:38 AM
Helpful for visualising what can happen when.

Thanks for that, I took a screenshot and might make that my wallpaper for my laptop for the coming days as a warning. Recent pumps in bitcoin and other alt coins have pushes bitcojn through the 2300 mark again and this tells me that segwit will probably not kill Bitcoin. Good luck to all the people who are still holding towards the August first mark, prep your private keys and lets hope for the best.
491  Economy / Speculation / Re: Btc Raising, price recovery on: July 18, 2017, 11:43:50 PM
After experiencing price declines at the end of last week, BTC and some altcoin had correction and recovery prices.
Currently the price has improved. If you want to buy and save, this is a good time.
So there were agree that making BTC price stability is more important than worrying about SegWit issue.

Yeah, I agree with you, but the reason why Bitcoin has fallen to below 2k was mostly due to the pre segwit FUD and all the people who were talking about how Segwit would kill Bitcoin. Segwit support has risen over the last couple of days and this must be related to the rises in price from Bitcoin. Not sure about the other altcoin, some coins follow Bitcoin's market closely. This is stronger evidence that says segwit won't be the end of bitcoin, and may actually give Bitcoin a bump to the moon. We are all anxiously waiting for August the first.
492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Confidence Returning to Bitcoin? on: July 18, 2017, 11:10:51 PM
...

I have looked over several threads here at bitcointalk, and it looks like SegWit is slowly being implemented (or planned for, or whatever) AND the price just ticked to (about) $2300, some $450 (or more) off its recent lows.

This suggests to me that confidence is returning to Bitcoin.

But, this might be just a bear trap, especially if anything goes wrong around August 1.

Recently the price of bitcoin has been falling mostly due to the people who are believing in all the FUD that is spread around. People also are selling to add to the falling price and rebuying at a lower price later on. Now price is rising since all the FUD is gone and how Bitcoin is growing.

About the bear trap, I hope that's not true, since August might actually bring some good to Bitcoin and pump up the price a bit.

Bitcoin, like anything else, is subjected to market forces of demand and supply. It is natural for the price to fluctuate a bit, but the long-term trend is growing, so seasoned investors never lost confidence in Bitcoin in the first place.
Yeah, I agree, the prices do tend to fluctuate and that is expected from Bitcoin.

493  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto currency is a soap bubble that will soon crash? on: July 18, 2017, 10:17:52 PM
Japan, Australia, USA, India and soon Russia. These are some of the most powerful countries in the world and what is something they all have in common. All of them have officially recognized bitcoin. If crypto is a soap bubble, why would all of these powerhouses recognise bitcoin. Also Google has recently invested 40 billion in bitcoin. Must be a bubble
494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: July 18, 2017, 09:45:50 PM
can they hack into our wallet. There are many professional hackers out there. What are the chances? Also what is the safest way to safeguard ourself?

Here are some steps you have take to have a safer bitcoin wallet:

1. Installing malfare protection to prevent spyware and for also your own personal protection.

2. Using multiple address and also a mixing service. This should prevent hackers from tracking that address and finding your wallet. Mixing services should confuse hackers also.

3. Consider cold storage. I would definitely recommend getting a hardware wallet. Ledger wallets are currently unavailable, but you could still get a Trezor. You could get a paper wallet, or use a physical item to store Bitcoin.
495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens in the world of cryptocurrency if.... on: July 18, 2017, 09:00:55 AM
What happens in the world of cryptocurrency if people already know a lot about BTC or altcoin? Huh
Because as we know that currently not many people know about btc or altcoin.

The price should rise for sure, since the more people who are interested the more media attention Bitcoin will get, the more investors Bitcoin will have, and since everyone wants Bitcoin, and the demand is going up, while the demand is relatively the same, then Bitcoin will rise.  I would probably expect a bunch of new alt coins being made and also government regulations and taxes being put in for crypto currencies. Generally, more people knowing about Bitcoin should be a good thing, but that will never happen since it is unlikely for crypto currencies to go mainstream.
496  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reason for bitcoin market crash. on: July 18, 2017, 07:53:30 AM
I have been reading some blogs about deepweb. Many people here might be knowing the fact behind deepweb.
One pf the most known deepweb site- AlphaBay, also known as "the new Silk Road," has been shut down since Tuesday night. The site also came in the news at the beginning of this year when a hacker successfully hacked the AlphaBay site and stole over 200,000 private unencrypted messages from several users.
Nearly 1,479.03904709 Bitcoin (roughly $3.8 Million) were in use in the site.  as the site got closed, all the bitcoins were stolen by the site owner ( according to news).
Is it the reason behind bitcoin market fall as the price started falling when the site was closed??

Well, that might be the reason why Bitcoin started dropping, it might not. The reason for this is because even though that site closed down and was hacked, there will be more sites like that coming up, I am pretty sure that not that much of the site users would have panic sold their bitcoin. It's only a matter of time before another one of those sites get made again. I think the real reason why Bitcoin fell was due to pre segwit fud.
497  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should owners with BTC on Exchange do before Aug 1st? on: July 18, 2017, 07:25:32 AM
First let me apologize for my ignorance (or rather confusion). I understand bitcoin may split on Aug 1st and that it may result in multiple chains. I have some BTC in gdax wallet and I am unsure if that will mean risk, or losing ownership should the coin split into two (or more?) chains that may end up like ETH/ETC both being valid (despite ETH being the clear winner).

Any advice at a practical level (e.g.. which wallet, what to pay attention to exactly, what not to, when to return funds) is really appreciated. Thank you!

Well since your are worried about your security, I would first recommend checking gtax wallet and seeing if they have made a statement. Since August the first is coming around pretty soon, there will be no chance to buy a new hardware wallet since ledger has postponed operations until September and the trezor probably won't ship in time. I would recommend getting Electrum since I am pretty sure that it is safe against the hard fork. The most important thing for you to have are your private keys since you will be safe if you have them.
498  Economy / Speculation / Re: it seems panic is stop. time to invest everything. on: July 18, 2017, 06:53:07 AM
it seems panic is stop. time to invest everything.

Graph is keep increase.
I will withdraw 3000$ and buy now. I do not think it will fall again even if 1 August.

anyone else think like me or not?

The Bitcoin markets are stabilizing right now and the price of Bitcoin seems to be climbing back up. This means the people who were panic selling their Bitcoin are regretting it. It seems like that the people who though segwit was going to kill Bitcoin are rethinking their decisions and are now trying to rebuy their bitcoin. Segwit will not kill Bitcoin, and there is a high chance of Segwit actually bumping the prices of Bitcoin.
499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is my method of storing cryptos safe? on: July 18, 2017, 04:27:19 AM
Hi,

This is my first post here. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask. If not, please feel free to move it.

I don't have a hardware wallet. I use Electrum and other similiar wallets on my desktop computer which never leaves my house. I make sure to always save the individual wallet files on a usb stick offline so there are no copies of the wallet files on the computer. The wallet files are also encrypted which I decrypt each time I need to access it. I don't use the usb stick for any other purpose other than storing and accessing cryptos and it stays offline when not in use.

1. Is this a pretty safe way of storing cryptos?

2. Does accessing wallet files via usb stick leave some sort of a trail or a temporary copy of the wallet files on the hard drive somehow that a hacker can later access? I don't move the files to the hard drive, I just open the files directly from the usb drive.

3. I have a paid antivirus software and a firewall on my computer. I checked for every way I know but did not find any indication of malware or hacking so hopefully, my computer is currently safe. However, if it were hacked unknown to me, the only way the hacker could steal my coins would be to catch me at the exact moment that I access my coins from the usb and watch my keystrokes for decryption passwords of my wallet files and also make a copy of my wallet files during the short duration of time that I'm accessing my wallet before unplugging the usb. Is this correct? Can a hacker possibly do all this such as copying a file from my usb drive while it's plugged in and send it to his personal machine? If so, would this be about the only case where a hardware wallet is safer than my method? My understanding is that the decryption part happens on the airgapped hardware device itself so even if the computer is hacked, the hacker would not have access to the wallet file nor the decryption password. Is this correct?

Thanks.

This method is fairly safe, and the method I use to store a bit of my bitcoin, the bitcoin that I use regularly since electrum is super convenient and lightweight. It really doesn't matter how many antiviruses you have and how long your password is. I would totally recommend you using cold storage if you have a lot of Bitcoin. You could use a paper wallet (a document that holds your private keys) or a hardware wallet (Would recommend using ledger wallet or a trezor). They are probably the most popular versions of cold storage.
500  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it too late to buy bitcoin? on: July 18, 2017, 01:25:09 AM
Even the blind can see that crypto Currency is making people millionaires all  over the world just because they present the holders of such currency with the financial freedom and opportunity to accrue large amounts of wealth base on currency investment . But my question is that, is it late to buy bitcoin? Should i wait maybe bitcoin price will decline after 1st August meeting? Please i will welcome your advice so that I can make my decision on crypto currency investment.

No, I don't think so, right now Bitcoin has just dropped to 2000 USD and then is starting to climb back to the original prices of 2800 USD. I think this may be your last chance to get some cheap bitcoin since, after the hard fork, there is a pretty good chance that Bitcoin will rise above 3000 and since there have been heaps of countries officially recognizing Bitcoin, which is good since Bitcoin is slowing becoming more mainstream.
