Can someone give the ELI5 on why the forkers seem to be butthurt about ETC? Isn't that the whole idea of the fork? Two chains and all.

Because ETC is not legit.

For me what ethc will be a good gauge of, is who in the community supports theft!   If etc gains traction then the majority of crypto space are either traders which isn't any good as we won't see consistent development as the coin can be dumped to shit by tomorrow.  Or they are mostly scammers and that is disheartening to say the least. I could easily dump the 1k ether I had prior to fork but I feel it's just wrong.  And the more and more this happens this becomes about just making a quick buck instead of the "crypto revolution".  The more time passes the more this whole thing looks like joke to me.  Starting to dump my hw on eBay.  Time to look for a new hobby.  This is becoming a scammers paradise run by those that are supposedly trustworthy.  What a fucking joke seriously bitpop you lost all credibility where with me you would have to earn in the first place and this isn't the correct fork to take to do that Wink.  Good luck with scam ethc.  Bad enough we had to fork to keep the fucking theives at bay. Then we have the likes of ethc.  What a joke!
o my god, how often does one have to tell . the ETC does not support the thief . ETC suports the international law that says lynchjustic is a crime .
selfjustic is not alowed. the thief shall be punished by the law and not the crime is erased by the devs couse investors dont wanted to hassle of an investigation.

So if someone is in your garage stealing your car you're going to open the garage door for them because "[sic]selfjustic is not alowed".

If you believe in what you say you should call the proper authorities and let them handle it. Creating an alt is not a solution.

One solution is to take it back. There are plenty of instances of self justice that are allowed. If you lose a bike and you find it 6 months later you can just take it back (I'd advice you to notify the police of when and where you took it, though). But this is not "[sic]lynchjustic", nor is taking back blockchain tokens.

Yes but this thread is about the immutable chain which is ETC

Is this the kind of stupid you expect to build your community on?

You might disagree with Vitalik about the way forward, but anyone with half a brain knows who made this thread and what it's for.

Vitaliks team wanted to take Ethereum in a different direction than you. They got the miners, users and exchanges to follow them. So you created an alt.

And you have accepted this. You don't call it Ethereum. You call it Ethereum Classic. All the exchanges use the abbreviation ETC for this new alt.

Eth from the original Ethereum team is still listed as ETH. Unless ETC is just a project meant to troll Ethereum I suggest that you clean up these distinctions so that users can make an informed decision between Ethereum and your Ethereum Alt. Like Expanse, Lisk and others have done.

Btw, why not sell your eth, move to Expanse or Lisk and boost those projects? At least they have a clear profile, active devs and some USPs.

Although I don't really mind ETC being discussed in this thread, doesn't bitpop have his own altcoin thread?
484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 09:29:08 PM
if this guy does this will he lose money? if he has his miners run on etc to destroy it ?
who pays him the loss ?
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/miners-attack-ethereum-classic-polonixs-listing/

If he sees etc as an attack on his investment I guess he sees it as a business expense.
how is it in his country if he destorys evidence of a crime?
the old chain is the only evidence of the theft crime and if a investigation is started they need the crimesceen, so to say
wiping out the crimesceen is a crime by itself where i live.
and the hardfork didnt eliminate the crime the attacker did( if he did one).
if its a legal crime the cops will come after him

What the h are you talking about?

You just sit tight and watch the hidden dynamics of the halving unfold... Wink

This beast taking off in approximately 10 days.

It will have to. Or else those bfx longs are going to bail

I feel like people have forgotten that theft is a crime and if you really want cryptocurrencies to replace fiat currencies then you will need a way of recouping stolen funds.
IHO this is the first true test of digital currency being able to replace fiat currencies and is the whole reason I mine and support various currencies to begin with.
you forget in real world there is a reason why judges and cops and invstigations are separated.
the fork did selfjustic.
they should have put there time and effort on finding out who it was but they put there mind on saving investment.

It's a piece of software. They mitigated a technical issue.

There's no need to make this into 1984.
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 03:25:25 PM
I told you there would be trolling from BTC people. Why do you engage with them?

Bitcoin has its own problems. That's why it won't friggin fly.

becoin supported the "Gimp Bitcoin" movement and now he "needs" Ethereum to be a failure.

If not, he might have backed the wrong team.

He will only be happy when both chains are dead.
489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 10:49:55 AM

I've said my bit for now. Good luck on the trolling. Just don't be so hard on lambchops the next time he serves you gay granddad pr0n.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 10:40:55 AM

@becoin

I hope you understand that this line of argument hurts BTC as well.

The block size HF issue in BTC was dead before this fud storm happened. Now it seems like people think any HF ever is a bad thing.

And we both know BTC will eventually probably need a HF.
491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 10:35:10 AM

If you want to be part of the Dapp / Smart Contract revolution: Look out for some cheap ETH!
Exactly. People that have missed Ethereum when it was created now have the opportunity to buy really cheap classic ethers on the original eth blockchain. What is the point of buying overpriced forked ethers?

I explained why. Read it again, please.
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 10:23:48 AM

If there are any noobs reading this thread:

ETH is currently being used to prove that a BTC HF is a bad idea.

Not every HF is a bad idea.

Ethers of the "attacker" are not equal to Vitalik's ethers! Bad HF are only those that shrink and limit fungibility of the monetary asset. Ethereum HF is the worst possible HF. It not only limits the fungibility of eth coin but didn't add any value in terms of quality, functionality, or robustness!

So you don't buy ETH for ultimate fungibility then. There's Bitcoin for that. Having a criminal sitting on such a vast sum of eth could threaten CASPER. Ethereum is not Crypto Gold, It's not Crypto Silver, It's not even Crypto Bronze. It's a platform for smart contracts. For that you need a community. For that you need developers. Eth Classic has none of those things. Their supporters comprise of Monero and Bitcoin enthusiasts who want to see Ethereum burn.

If you want to ride the ETC train for a couple of days: Go ahead!

If you want to be part of the Dapp / Smart Contract revolution: Look out for some cheap ETH!
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 09:49:35 AM
So, how many of those who say this thread is an etc thread actually own any etc?

becoin sure don't

Edit:

"Thread Starter : Vitalik Buterin"

Let's see where he's at.

ETH

Case Closed

If there are any noobs reading this thread:

ETH is currently being used to prove that a BTC HF is a bad idea. There will be a lot of stupid hate filled foolishness that has nothing to do with ETH in this thread.

495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2016, 08:42:42 AM
Anyone who held eth on polo at the time of the fork will now have access to their polo etc.

DUMP THEM WHILE YOU CAN!!!

Edit: Or you can keep it.

Edit 2: They called it ETC? Et Cetera? Clowns
496  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 22, 2016, 10:56:03 PM
It looks promising indeed but I think there'll be too much optimism and excitement from other people who reached it. Most of the places I like going the people there ask 'why the fuck did you come here?' but I'll put my affairs in order and give it a try.

Yah, Svalbard is more cool than quirky.
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 22, 2016, 09:54:40 PM
Ethf is a dead man walking
what exactly does that mean?

There will be a massive dump, do you realize how big the supply is? Add in inflation? Plus pos?

Small numbers for small minds.

You do realize that Bitcoins market cap is tiny, don't you?
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 22, 2016, 06:49:04 PM

So.. if you sold them and got out. What the f**k is this whining about?

At this point it just looks like you have sand in your vagina
are you serious?  such a sexistic post ? is that all you can say? wow thought it cant get lower but you proof it does.

Hmmmm..... It seems like everything in crypto can be reduced to a woman having trouble with her lady parts. Despite the fact that there are virtually no woman here.

There's a lesson here. Somewhere.

You should come to Svalbard. It's the poor mans Antarctica.

It's definitely on the list. One day I hope to come across somewhere so desolate and depressing that I instantly drop dead from sheer despair. In the UK Port Glasgow does a nice job. I think some forgotten city in Siberia's going to do it.

We have two forgotten Siberian citys on Svalbard too. Barentsburg and Pyramida. Everything a man in existential doubt could ever want.

I have a strong suspicion that we're headed for a breakout above 700 within the next few weeks.

dafuq?

Why are you bullish all of the sudden?

Is it job related or just a weird british thing? They're not exactly common tourist destinations.

Weird British. I fucking love going to the backs of beyond and you can't get much more beyond than that. The first place I went to in the US was rural Nebraska. I was in Newfoundland recently and headed straight for the most remote communities I could find. It certainly feeds my soul. Dunno why.

You should come to Svalbard. It's the poor mans Antarctica.
