Wink
4802  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The fastest HD 69xx miner. 250 BTC. on: June 16, 2011, 03:22:34 PM
Using poclbm (guiminer) and the newest catalyst (11.5) and app sdk (2.4), I am getting 711 mhash on stock settings - 830mhz, bios switch in the default position
if hdminer only gets 708 mhash at stock, wouldn't it actually be a performance regression to switch to it?
Settings (switches like -v -w 128...), memory speed, core voltage?

I would be more interested in a comparison with hashkill though...

Quite a lot of shares sold after that dividend, gratulations!

Funny/scary that people are panic-selling now on namecoin instead of hoarding and keeping the exchange rate high.

If "Volume" is really in BTC, there are more BTC being traded on Bitparking than on MtGox! Shocked

Bitcoin7:
* Hard to track down who is behind it
https://www.bitcoin7.com/index.php?show=imprint
Now THAT was hard, eh? Roll Eyes

Also as they claim to operate other game money exchanges, they probably took a template they already had and just copy-pasted it to fit "Bitcoin".

Also making claims that someone is operating "illegally" is quite easy - especially with BTC there's not that much regulated or available, as it is a relatively new field of operations. It's very often not sure for example if BTC are "money", "goods" or anything else.

I wonder why you trust the former "Magic the Gathering online exchange" more, especially as it provides a very large single point of failure for whole Bitcoin (many miners will stop mining if they can't get USD for mining - there are NOT many idealists in the network, rather a lot of kids who use the chance to get a free GPU!).
4806  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin7.com - Brand new exchange market! on: June 16, 2011, 02:41:17 PM
I'm worried that nobody trades EUR nowhere, even the europeans, what is up with that?
I'm still waiting for EUR trading on MtGox or TradeHill... The ONLY fully escrowed exchange (meaning you can send them money and bitcoins and they send out money and bitcoins) where it's possible to deposit EUR is bitcoin7 atm.
The others (tradehill + mtgox) convert to USD.

If you go otc or "half-otc" (like bitmarket.eu), you can trade EUR as well.

There's also a german exchange currently in tryout beta but not with live money yet - if that takes off, I'm also very much in favor of trading EUR than USD (which are somehow expected to crash...).
4807  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Beta-Tester für deutschen Handelsplatz gesucht on: June 16, 2011, 01:07:53 PM

4808  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin7.com - Brand new exchange market! on: June 16, 2011, 04:09:50 AM
I can confirm that trading, sending USD from MtGox and withdrawing BTC worked.
I didn't get scammed, got nearly 1 BTC extra in some nice trades, withdrew BTC and am happy... well, kind of.

I won't use that site any longer though, as the owner confirmed in another post that they store money values as 32-bit floats!
'nuff said.

The idea itself, the design etc. is quite well done though and I also really don't get the sudden bashing of Eastern Europeans in this thread!

Dwolla is not possible for me (and I would also much rather trade in EUR, but the 2 other exchanges are both on the other side of the globe...), so no confirmation on that.

Wink
4810  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Überlegung: eine Regierung kauft Hardware on: June 16, 2011, 03:38:27 AM
Hatten wir schon mal...
Tesla GPUs schaffen vielleicht(?) 80 MH/s

4811  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Namecoin miners, stand up and be counted! on: June 16, 2011, 03:26:48 AM
As long as you provide the pool software too I would even do that (though I'd like to rather have the Namecoins to be able to diversify a bit my portfolio).
4812  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1.2 Ghash for sale on: June 16, 2011, 03:11:10 AM
Sorry, these numbers are statistically possible - BUT they are improbable! Wink
This means, he could be even so lucky to find 10 blocks solo in one day.

In the longer run however (depending on where he is mining) his income will come closer and closer to the expected level.

So yes:
It is possible to gain more BTC with 1 GH/s than someone with 1.2 GH/s on a lucky/unlucky (depending on who you are) day.
It is far less likely to gain more in a week (actually VERY unlikely) than someone with 200 MH/s more.
It is nearly impossible to have a 1 month luck streak - there might be however people out there, that are experiencing this.

Think of it as the coin toss example:

Tossing a coin just 4 times makes it quite likely that an imbalance is visible.
If you toss it 1 million times, it is far less likely that there is a significant imbalance between heads and tails.

24 hours are just a too small sample size - especially considering you're probably comparing pool payouts and not shares submitted!
4813  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1.2 Ghash for sale on: June 16, 2011, 02:35:35 AM
And if the potential renter can find a way to produce 1.2 Ghash very quickly in the face of skyrocketing GPU costs, ever limiting supplies, and inherent difficulty in maintaining the system, then more power to him.  Once again, this is for people who don't want to build a rig that will be hashing away (heat, noise, etc...) in their kitchen for the foreseeable future.
I wrote about buying coins (buying computer hardware is also not that hard in non-US parts of the world by the way - this is why I expect difficulty to rise still...) on exchanges like MtGox or Tradehill. There's no mention of buying hardware in my post.

Once again:
At 0 growth worldwide from this day on, your customer pays ~18.17 USD per mined BTC.

If at any point in these 30 days the USD per BTC rate falls below ~18 on MtGox, it would have been wiser to send the 750 USD there and just place an offer @ 18 USD with the money than paying you. Especially considering that it takes you 30 days to deliver the full amout.

Currently the network is NOT steady, it grows. By over 4% per day. If this continues, your customers will get around 25 BTC, meaning they pay 30 USD/BTC. What's your added value compared to just walking to MtGox and getting 50% more Bitcoins directly in the wallet than waiting 30 days for Bitcoins that effectively cost (taking current numbers into consideration) 30 USD/BTC?

Oh, and by the way, a tipp:
You could save a lot on electricity and noise if you just take the money of your customers to MtGox, buy Bitcoins and send them slowly each day. You will with these prices still have a few left after the contract ends and you don't even need hardware!
4814  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1.2 Ghash for sale on: June 16, 2011, 01:06:42 AM
Buying coins now for 750 USD at 20 USD per BTC: 37,5 BTC

Renting 1200 MH/s for 30 days, estimating that difficulty stays constant (which it most likely WON'T!):

50 / ( (877226.66666667 * 2 ^ 32) / ( 1200 * 1000000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 ) ) = 41.2776117 BTC

This means you buy bitcoins at
750 / 41.2776117 = 18.1696559 USD/BTC
at best (constant difficulty)
For every increase in difficulty you pay this much more per BTC. (50% increase? You pay ~27 USD/BTC!)

Now, if difficulty goes up (and it will!), you are very soon making a worse deal than buying directly.
You are making an even worse deal if the USD/BTC rate falls below 18 USD/BTC in these 30 days, as you could buy then directly and at once.

Math done. Cool
4815  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin7 a new exchange on: June 16, 2011, 12:46:51 AM
You cant even send bitcoins. This thing either is a giant theft opt or a money laundering ring out of Sophia. My money on the later
I haven't yet tried sending any (I just transferred some USD from MtGox to buy the cheap 18 USD Bitcoins, that were unfortunately gone until my USD got credited) - but generally you should just mouse over the bitcoin amount in the top right corner and click "Add Bitcoins"... does this not work?!

Edit:
"You have successfully withdrawn x.xxxxxxxx42 BTC to your Bitcoin wallet"
I wonder if the .42 Satoshis show up!  Roll Eyes

So far every trade went fine though and once (if...) the floats are fixed, I might even use the exchange. Sofia is a nice city anyways and I won't have to go to a bank/exchange to get BGN this way.

* Bitcoin Client runterladen, NICHT installieren.

Man bräuchte derzeit (10TH/s) also mind.

4818  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin7 a new exchange on: June 15, 2011, 04:58:25 PM
I would strongly advise you as #1 priority to take 2 developers to independently go through the whole backend code and remove ANY floating point number that occurs there. It's nice and fine if you want to have more than 8 decimal places, but for the love of god or whatever you believe in, don't ever use floats in financial software again!

Sorry to be so harsh, but this is something nearly every programmer should learn in their first semester.
4819  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Idea: Distributed Bitcoin Exchange on: June 15, 2011, 03:07:16 PM
2 simple questions

If I buy Bitcoins using this exchange, where do I send my money to, and using which kind of payment (paypal, bank wire, cash, check...)?

If I sell Bitcoins, how am I save of being scammed using this distributed exchange and where will my money come from (especially if it's >10000 USD/day!)?

Bonus question:

How is your exchange idea different from OTC trades?
4820  Economy / Economics / Re: Price vs Difficulty Charts - indicators for buying or mining on: June 15, 2011, 02:57:11 PM
If you use a diffiulty estimate and not the real difficulty, you are rather comparing with the network hash rate than "difficulty", just saying.
