4801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware wallet demand increases in 2022 bear market as exchange scramble on: July 15, 2022, 09:24:43 AM
That brings the next problem: available block space. If 100 million people want to transfer Bitcoin from an exchange to their own wallet, and then make a transaction by themselves, that's 15 GB and takes months to process on-chain.
I can't comment on the numbers and estimates, but I will take your word for it. Luckily (in this case), the awakening doesn't happen simultaneously and people realize little by little that it's wrong and dangerous to store your coins on exchanges. So we don't have to worry about exchange users flooding the mempools with withdrawalal transactions. Not yet at least.

As I already wrote, our devices were made in a different time when materials were cheap and easily available, and the demand for HW was probably not like today - so even though they are the same devices, according to everything I could see and read these the new ones seem to be of lower quality.
I know. I have mentioned a few times that there are differences between the earlier Nano X batches and the more-recent ones that started having battery and charging issues.

I am not aware if Trezor has such problems, although I have to admit that I can't remember anyone on the forum complaining that they have a broken Trezor, or that something on the HW is broken or doesn't work as it should.
I do remember reading about a few broken Trezor cases and I have a picture in my head of a user duct tapping the USB cable to the device because it wasn't working otherwise. Maybe that exact picture is posted somewhere in my showoff your hardware wallet thread, or I saw it elsewhere else. But nothing significant. I am sure you could find problems with Trezor's as well if you dig for it on Reddit. I am not really interested in that though.

OP, are you a big liar or a dreamer?

I am only 27 years old .and I am using cryptocurrency & I am using this forum from 2013 . When I was 16 years old . But I was folish then I see Bitcoin price $60-70 but I didn't hold Bitcoin then. If I was bought and  keep holding 10-12 btc . Now I could make a huge profit and get rich

Yes i been more then 45 years people using btc and investing on btc a much more. Because in this time they are in charge of a family so they are more inclined to seek income .so they take different approaches . And they lean towards Bitcoin
Grin Grin
Coinerer is obviously not very proficient with the English language. The second quote you posted is not about him I think. If you check the first quote, he says "I am 27 years old", but in the second post he uses an incorrect construction and says "i been more then 45 years people...". I think he was trying to say that he knows about people older than 45 who invest and use Bitcoin, not that he is 45.

In order to buy bitcoin, we must have money on a card or a bank account. Here everyone will have problems, because you need to indicate the sources of origin of this money.
I am sure that casinos can provide receipts for such wins that can be shown to the banks and the taxing authority.
4803  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 15, 2022, 08:52:29 AM
Who is the user?
I didn't bookmark the thread so I forgot who posted it. Luckily, I found it with Ninjastic.space. His username is blockgardener and this is the thread: Bitcoin price calculator - Calculate live and historic Bitcoin prices
The site has actually been live for almost a year, but I just discovered it after the OP posted some fresh updates the other day.

Only disadvantage is long domain name, which is basically 3x longer than Preev.
I agree. It's far from ideal. I have gotten so used to typing just the first 2-3 letters of "preev", it's weird typing something else now.

Thanks for taking part and showing us your hardware wallets. It's been a long time since someone did. Smiley
You mentioned your USB flash drives a few times. Have you by any chance stored your recovery phrase on these drives, and are those digital copies the only backups you have of your seed? Have you made proper physical backups on paper?
4805  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Preev.com - DNS hosting service has expired. on: July 14, 2022, 01:58:40 PM
Even though the site is running again, I wanted to mention an alternative that I saw the other day posted by someone in the Project Development sub-forum.
https://bitcoinpricecalc.com/

It's a decent site and even has a historical reference of prices dating back to 2012. I think it's a good thing to support simple things developed by Bitcointalk members.
4806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware wallet demand increases in 2022 bear market as exchange scramble on: July 14, 2022, 01:42:56 PM
Their devices may be cheaper, but the quality is very questionable. Housing and display failures are a common occurrence, not to mention that the ledger has repeatedly fallen into incidents with users' personal data. Most of the troubles in Hardware wallets section are dedicated to the products of this company.
I think that at least 50-60% of the negative and bad posts and threads there are about Ledger hardware wallets in that sub section come from dkbit98. He probably gets a warm and fuzzy feeling in his belly when he sees something bad about Ledger. Grin
But that doesn't change the fact that they messed up big time and in numerous occasions.

Regarding the build quality of the devices. I can only speak for myself and I don't want to jinx my Nano S, but it has been working fine for many years. And you also have Lucius stating that his Nano X is working just fine. So there you have it. I don't bother myself too much with negative comments on reddit because I have my own experience to fall back on. I am pretty sure that I am not special and that God and other forces are not protecting my Nano S in all these years. There are many like me out there who are satisfied with their products, but you don't hear such voices on reddit.

4808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hardware wallet demand increases in 2022 bear market as exchange scramble on: July 14, 2022, 09:26:57 AM
Bear market or not, exchanges should be used for exchanging coins, and non-custodial wallets should be used for their safekeeping. It's going to take some time for people to realize that, but hopefully we are getting there.

Bitcoin holders are moving the coins from non-custodial wallets to custodian wallets where they have their private keys, remember this is not your keys, not your wallet.
It's the other way around. People are moving their coins from custodial wallets to non-custodial wallets. Custodial means that someone else is in control of the private keys. Non-custodial means they aren't, but you are.

It would be interesting to see statistics on sales of hardware wallets from other manufacturers for 2022 and compare with the results of the ledger. Does this company dominate the HW device market in terms of HW device shipments?
Ledger has sold more hardware wallets than any other HW manufacturer in the world. Despite their recent problems, I am sure that trend continued even in 2021-2022. Trezor is probably sitting on #2. Ledger puts a lot of emphasis on marketing and their devices are are cheaper than those of their competitors. If you do a google search for the term "hardware wallet", Ledger's website is the first search result. Trezor, for example, is almost at the bottom on the first page.
4809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Saves my relatives both of Life, Time and money on: July 14, 2022, 09:11:55 AM
first he deposited his money on his bank account on Singapore. then He used many different way like p2p trading , buy with debit card and more way as much as possible . It's keep him safe from attackers. he bought btc from a secret place Where attackers will not find him. Something like this happened.
As if the story wasn't weird enough already, it just got weirder. So he managed to deposit his million dollar winnings into a local Singapore bank, but instead of transferring that money to his home country, he started buying bitcoin with it. The moment the money got deposited in the bank, he was safe from having his cash robbed. I don't see what changes just because he decided to purchase bitcoin. He could have just moved that money safely via the bank to any other place in the world. The transaction costs are a different topic entirely.
4810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Create Taproot address for your Bitcoin on: July 13, 2022, 04:58:52 PM
Since no one has explained how to create a Taproot address on Ledger Live yet, I will briefly describe the process.
After opening and logging in to your Ledger Live account, connect and unlock your hardware wallet with your PIN.

Now click on the "Accounts" tab on the left. On the dropdown list select Bitcoin and click on "Continue".

Ledger Live will then scan all existing Bitcoin accounts that are or aren't part of your portfolio. Give it a minute to finish or stop the scanning process by clicking on the "Stop" button.
To add a Taproot account, you need to switch on the "show all address types" under "Add new account". Give your Taproot account a name and click on the "Add account" button at the bottom.

If done successfully, a confirmation screen will inform you that your new account has been added to your portfolio. You can see it at the bottom of your "Accounts" tab because it's addresses are still unfunded.

To generate a Taproot address, you now need to click on the "Receive" tab on the left, select your new Taproot account on the list, and click "Continue".

A new address will be generated for you. Compare and confirm that the address on Ledger Live matches the one on your hardware wallet and approve it by clicking on both buttons on the device.

You have now successfully created a Taproot address in Ledger Live.
4811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Man lost everything to Crypto on: July 13, 2022, 01:55:43 PM
This is the first time I read about this case. I can't believe that a news site called "Live Bitcoin news" doesn't know the slightest thing about Bitcoin and reports that a person lost his "addresses" and now he can't recover said "addresses". He had some success with trading in the beginning but as he was greedy and showed gambling-related disorders, he invested more than he could afford to lose and lost. That's all on him and not on Bitcoin.

He says that trading Bitcoin is "high-risk". He is right above that. Trading isn't for everyone despite it being available for everyone. Blaming advertisements for your misfortunes is pitiable. It's not my fault I lost my crypto, there was an ad on the bus that tricked me...
4812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Saves my relatives both of Life, Time and money on: July 13, 2022, 01:35:36 PM
It feels weird to tell someone their story is fake especially if it really happened to a family member. But there seems to be too many illogical things in this one.
I once won a few grands in a physical sportsbook and I was asked to submit my banking information where the money would be routed. They didn't want to give me the cash. I find it hard to believe he was given a suitcase or a bag full of money and shown the exit door. You also mentioned he talked to the police and they helped him apparently. How did they help him, and if he got the help he needed, why did he still need to buy the bitcoins? If attempt were made to kill him, those responsible should/would have been arrested.

Just like Zuckerberg created Facebook to get pictures of girls on campus, what does "GirlsGoneBitcoin" tell you about the reason Bitcoin was created?
For sexy time?

4814  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: July 13, 2022, 01:16:59 PM
Maybe Di Maria can play well with Vlahovic, Morata and Chiesa.
He can't play well with players who are no longer there. Grin Juventus had a €35 million buy option on Alvaro Morata but the clause wasn't activated. Therefore, his Juventus loan contract has expired and he has returned to Atletico Madrid. I assume he will be sold during the summer. Juventus was interested in keeping him but considered the amount as too big. They tried to talk to Atleti to decrease the price but they weren't willing to negotiate any discounts.
4815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be careful what you wish for, it might happen on: July 13, 2022, 09:44:38 AM
There are always ways and means to avoid paying taxes, especially if we are talking about cash transactions and P2P deals. We all decide if we want to pay those taxes or not. If you leave digital fingerprints for monetary transactions, you could get caught and questioned. If you don't, the chances are significantly smaller.

I think we should stop dreaming about a Bitcoin society that replaces all traditional institutions and instruments of power we have today. Let's just hope Bitcoin's development goes nicely and in the interest of its holders. It's an economy that works independently. A sidechain to traditional finance if you want. I am not dreaming of a world where the governments won't tax people at all because they are using Bitcoin only. All countries need those revenues and rely on it. Chaos would ensue otherwise. A world-wide mining ban is a more likely scenario (although highly unlikely itself) than the governments giving up on taxing their citizens.
4816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in 10 years, 9 years ago - from Theymos reddit AMA on: July 13, 2022, 09:27:35 AM
BTC-ETH flippening?
I would say it's very unlikely that a blockchain such as Ethereum will get the same support and build trust as Bitcoin has done. If and when Ethereum migrates to POS it will become even worse.  Just check the fees you have to pay to work with DeFi and smart contract interactions to see how useful Ethereum is in its current form.

A lot of transactions will probably occur through a payment system on top of Bitcoin because Bitcoin transactions will be somewhat more expensive than they are today.  — Lightning network?
Lightning Network or any other sidechains that might be created in the future still require official on-chain confirmations. So you still have to go through the bottleneck of Bitcoin's TPS and block generation time. Until that happens, those coins aren't yours yet.
4817  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Anyone tried FTX swap with Ledger Live? on: July 13, 2022, 09:13:23 AM
<Snip>
I am only interpreting what the official partnership announcement stated and the term they used, which was self-custody. I don't believe it myself because similar terms or lies (if you want) were also said by those instant swap platforms that are around. They claim to do the swap process in a non-custodial way. But then we have cases of people being asked to undergo KYC, provide origin of funds, or the coins simply disappearing. Users have no way to get to those coins without getting in touch with the support of that centralized entity. If the process was non-custodial, a request for KYC could be answered with "yeah right, bugger off" and you just import your keys elsewhere and take back your coins. However, you can't do that.
4818  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: July 13, 2022, 09:04:42 AM
Juventus seem to be prepared to lose Morata this summer when they brought in Vlahovic from Fiorentina back in January. They have also signed Di Maria who is believed to replace Dybala...
I agree partially. Di Maria is a suitable replacement for Dybala. Depending on his motivation (since he is 34), he might turn out to be a much better player in short term. But Vlahovic and Morata are different types of players. Dusan is supposed to be in the center positions where he is at his best. Morata used to play as a central attacker before Vlahovic came, but he did so poorly. That's not his natural role. He was better in the second part of the season in a 3-man attack when he had space to attack from the left and find Dusan in the middle.
4819  Other / Meta / Re: Should rules on plagiarism be changed and updated? on: July 13, 2022, 08:58:18 AM
<Snip>
OK, good find. As you can see from the quote you shared, mprep is calling the list unofficial. Not the rules per se. It's an unofficial list. The word "unofficial" is an adjective describing what kind of list it is. So, it's a list of (official) Bitcointalk rules. It's better we consider them official because if we break them, the admins have valid reasons to ban us. Why the rules are not applied equally on everyone or not at all in some cases, is something entirely different.

Theymos is so far-sighted that he knew that 10 years later I would ask these questions, but the answers are already out there somewhere. We just need to find them. Magnificent!  Grin
Cmon theymos just answer the bloody questions. LoyceV is getting impatient and really pissed off right now. If not for me and LoyceV, do it for the betterment of humanity. And the kids also, we can't forget the kids.
