Thanks for the article link! I don't like the insidebitcoins article for some reason, I mostly use coindesk or cointelegraph. I wanted to know if someone has used it and is really secure but I forgot to mention this in the post.

P.S. i have deleted it.

It's pretty obvious he's asking why scammers (or people with negative trust scores) aren't banned.

Receive negative feedback doesn't mean it must be ban.
He/she just not deserve to do any trade anymore. They still can contribute to this forum
Am I right..

Half correct, he/she still deserve to trade but this time onwards, using escrow.

4804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Best & Secure Android Wallet for ANDROID on: February 23, 2015, 02:02:14 PM
I'd be wary keeping too much btc in an android wallet, fine for small amounts but any more I'd recommend making your own paper wallets.

True. I would suggest Bither. It is easy to use and secure. If you have two android phones or one android phone & one iOS phone, you can use HDM. HDM == Multisig HD wallet. It is the first wallet to introduce it. You will be secure with it.

The issue is if the keys in question are generated without sufficient randomness a hacker can find a way to discover these keys, even if it was generated offline.

It is very rare and it happens mostly if you reuse address AFAIK. Bitaddress offers sufficient randomness, you can use alpha-numeric characters, special characters, mouse etc..

The claim here is because these JavaScript generators don't have the sufficient randomness. If they really have sufficient randomness, please explain how this is achieved or post some material proving this.

Not all JS scripts. For randomness, use mouse, keyboard and use special characters. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=43496.msg10322571#msg10322571

Edit: from the advertising space:
Quote
Be very wary of relying on JavaScript for security on sites such as blockchain.info and brainwallet.org. The site can change the JavaScript at any time unless you take unusual precautions, and browsers are not generally known for their airtight security.

You are misunderstanding it. It is says you should be careful when using JS scripts online and it gave Blockchain.info and Brainwallet.org as examples because it is widely used. Brainwallet.org is mainly used for signing transaction. And it says that the JS script can be changed anytime(mostly by owners/co-owners/contributors) and browsers don't have airtight security as the most of them doesn't wipe caches, app-datas and sometimes it will be there forver and when you connect to interent, it may have a loop hole and you will be in danger. None of them matters when using Bitaddress.org in an offline computer and you can make a full wipe of browser-related files and if are paranoid, you can delete everything related to browser and uninstall it and then install it again(if you want).

It's pretty obvious he's asking why scammers (or people with negative trust scores) aren't banned.
in that case i think that they aren't banned because then they'd just make a new account to scam people with. at least with an established account they have a red trust. with a new one nobody would be aware that they've scammed ppl before.

Forum doesn't moderate scams.

do you think he was using testnet blockchain???

maybe???

I don't think so as the address is main chain address and isn't testnet address. An example of a testnet address is n1frwMAk5HDCAZcSeyXnFktaAgwAe6jEfi. Testnet Genesis block : 000000000933ea01ad0ee984209779baaec3ced90fa3f408719526f8d77f4943.

Both are screwed assuming this is a hacked account. Zeki will most likely have to pay to get it back. Marco could have avoided this by verifying ownership, one reason I doubt the neg feedback will be removed... Now he is out of BTC because that account is no good and won't sell because of the neg rep.

Like I said(theymos replied to an example related to this about splitting), he should atleast pay half of the amount even if it is very hard to prevent hacking, he should be careful clicking the link. It is still suspicious for me, OP may have a VPN with dedicated IP which would have used when doing account sales and these things.

Edit:

Yeah but what if it turns out to not be a hacked account? Nobody knows for sure. Looks like both are gonna lose unless someone finds something solid to suggest it was hacked or not hacked.

Sorry, it isn't 'by marcotheminer', it is 'to marcotheminer'. Corrected my post.

See above. I am in doubt too

So at the end the solutions are two , zeki should repay the loan or marcotheminer "could" give back the account to zeki but he will lose the loan (0.32 btc if I'm not wrong). This is a very bad situation.

Atleast half of the amount should be paid to marcotheminer.

I see that bright guy but without any reference it's one word against the other. There should be more proof to such accusations.

Accusations usually are made in 'Scam Accusations' but Canadianbitcoins didn't scam him, so it's not a good idea to post there IMHO. If it was in a thread, it would be easy but it was done via PM. Like Quickseller said, if you or anyone want to know more details/verify it, it can be done using a trusted person or Global Moderators.

Hope you aren't spamming for that sig.

you think so,
but i guess there are a lot of people who do not think like you,
and they "trust" in trust index!!!

excuse the pun

No, only trusted members will be added to DefaultTrust list. If you are telling in general, then I wonder what would be trust rating of Vod and other scam-busters. Roll Eyes

The first folder appears to be old files back from when Satoshi was the main administrator here. I believe: https://bitcointalk.org/oldSiteFiles/images/screen3.png is a screenshot of Satoshi's Bitcoin wallet from 2009, showing a payment to an IP address rather than a Bitcoin address, which was a feature included in early versions of Bitcoin Core that was removed for security risks.

An interesting thing about that screenshot is that it must have been made on a different block chain. The dates don't match up with the current block chain.

I think Satoshi didn't wanted to mess up before making it public or at that time. I couldn't find a post/site mentioning abou this(if it is true).

Thanks for the link, Blazr! I like old UI, simple and clean. I hope it will be used again.

4814  Other / New forum software / Re: Should be clear if one gets a message from the forum/staff/theymos on: February 23, 2015, 12:22:31 PM
But most newbies won't be aware of the colour scheme/this feature so I'm not sure how useful it will be. Also, people impersonating staff is very rare and them successful scamming from it is either rarer.

It is very rare but the scammed amount will be high. I don't value how many impersonating accounts are created, instead, I prefer how much amount was scammed. If you check the forum auction threads, you can see what I meant and in some threads, there are photos of the messages.

I think, like Gmail & other popular services, send 1-3 emails to newly registered users to educate them the features and related, a bot dedicated to message newly registered users one or two messages which include links to important Meta threads especially stickied ones would help them. A thread should be made about impersonators and this color scheme. I can't say this would prevent from impersonator-scamming but this would decrease a lot of scams.

Better you prevent not get hacked rather than recover it.

How to prevent it ?
Don't click any suspicious link on any website,
Don't trust anyone

I think this is a risk of loaning bussiness.
Feel sorry for your loss Marco
The Scammer method is getting scary and modified...so everyone should be carefull

It's not so easy as you think. You could get a malware(incl. keylogger) without even knowing. Even U.S. National Security Agency is putting spying program(s) : https://mobile.twitter.com/KZM279/status/568489124136689664.

Indeed, it is! First step is to ask signed message from an address he/she posted ans isn't an eited post.

I have changed the account's address to collect the bitmixer payment. I was unsure if the address was recently changed so it would be better for me to collect then return it when/if needed.

That would be a good idea! Could you put a P. MSG saying this account is used as collateral?

I suggest all to change your negative feedback to neutral feedback till Marco gets the payment.

4818  Other / Meta / Re: How about an own Child Board for Ponzis? on: February 22, 2015, 08:28:06 PM
Creting a new sub-forum means we are supporting it, atleast in the words of Bitcointalk/Bitcoin haters and that is a big problem. We may see much more Ponzi schemes if we create such boards, you can take Altcoin section as an example.

You can see a few impersonators in the first page of https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist. If you search, you will get many more.

So, how and why? Just because you can generate in an offline computer it doesn't mean it's secure.

Then what is 'secure'? Shocked AFIAK cold storage is the best option and is very secure. Cold storage is done in an offline computer, does that mean it isn't secure? Huh

You didn't understood correctly what secure is. If your peovate key is never exposed to internet, how can anyone steal the private key? Reused R values are a problem but it is different matter. Please understand what it is, what you are hoing to tell and then post the correct one. Smiley
