4801  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [ScamAlert] Fake 400 eth giveaway on: August 17, 2020, 03:10:10 AM
Yes, and it seems that it has been captured by several sites as scam already here:

So good catch nonetheless, they seems to be a lot of *.top being used as domains for scamming.
4802  Economy / Economics / Re: China is winning the Economy Wars on: August 16, 2020, 03:36:35 AM
OP, you are spreading negative information about the Chinese government and I don't think this is good for every one of us because the source of the debt Sri Lanka's own the Chinese government was their previous President Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, every third world country usually signs an agreement of a firm stake in some portion of the industry they borrowed funds to build if they are struggling to repay the loan till the loan is totally paid in full.
If you think about idolizing China, do some searching on the web, they have articles about the questions above. You should know better not to side with China on this matter. Regarding the debt, you think that it is fair to take the infrastructure and the land? And do not forget that they replaced most of the employees to Chinese citizen, so basically China has a land in Sri Lanka. I do not spread negative information, I am just telling the truth.
I don't idolize China, in fact there suposedly "made in china" projects are cheap but of low quality. It just shows you how those Chinese are creating products that are inferior and yet spread them out across the globe to make money, economics 101. And they seems to spread out not just in Asia. In my country alone, you will see a lot of Chinese owning big corporations and really like we are turning into another Chinese territory. But we can't do anything, our country is in debt with the Chinese and give them a free pass.
4803  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tennis League All Thread on: August 16, 2020, 03:06:24 AM
That was the point I was trying to get across in a few posts ago, Thiem would be the top player on clay if Nadal was retired already as I don't see any other next gen as good as Thiem on clay and he has even challenged Nadal for the French Open the past 2 years but still isn't good enough to beat him at a grand slam but has beaten him in other clay tournaments. The thing is that the top three are legends and we'll most likely never see this again in our lifetime where three players are winning all the grand slams every year.
Yes Thiem is legend at present but in history of wins like he is second to Thomas Muster (world leading tennis player in his time). Win a grandslam and relatively achieve greater things than Thiem. But, I think that if Thiem will continue to achieve greater things like a grandslam championship then he can surpass Thomas Muster. In tennis court I am a fan of Thiem, this is why that everytime he plays I always watch. One of his great plays that i watch was Thiem vs. Jannik Sinner and it was a great final match won by Thiem.

Never heard of Thomas Muster before ? Calling Thiem a legend already is too soon. But he can certainly win a grandslam, especially on clay.
I agree with Vella, the era with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic winning grandslam after grandslam, is a once in a lifetime...

And yet another big name has pulled out of the US open: Andreescu (champion of 2019).

https://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2020/08/bianca-andreescu-wont-play-us-open-ensuring-two-new-singles-champs/90073/
And as we get closer to the date, it seems that more players are withdrawing from the said tournament. I try to check the draw, but it seems there's nothing yet as everything is not finalized. We don't know who are some of the seeded players entering and it could be interesting what will be the odds. It could be a very unpredictable US Open and it will be very difficult to bet on it.
4804  Economy / Speculation / Re: Current Local Roadmap of Bitcoin on: August 16, 2020, 02:43:50 AM
So now the resistance of $12k is not yet broken, been twice or thrice already that we have reach it but so far it's a mental barrier for most traders. For scalping, it's not for everyone, would you suggest this strategy short time or it's better to go long as we are in a bull run already?

Three times, and each time it retraced quite "heavily" but each time was a great dip for traders to buy which makes me believe that they are the same group of traders taking easy 5% profit at 12000 and buying back below 11500.
Ok, pardon my memory, sometimes my brain doesn't work that very well, lol. Yeah, that strategy will work as long as you have a deep pocket. But for us, if you don't have that much money to buy and then pull out in the last minute to make at least 5% profit, it is not advisable.

Definitely not for everyone, entering right now could gain you 2 or 3 times 5% in a row but wrong time wipes you out or makes you miss good rally.
Agree, that's why there's no one size fits all strategy here. It's really up to our capacity and risk aversion.
4805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Covid-19 and Bitcoin on: August 16, 2020, 02:11:57 AM
Coronavirus has made us stay home for months now, Bitcoin's price rised while most stocks crashed. Bitcoin's price rise probably has something to do with Coronavirus,
Stocks have somewhat recovered already, Gold has really to its all-time-high. But I don't think it has something to do with Coronavirus directly. Probably more people are using bitcoin to hedge their wealth.

People are staying home, buying things online to avoid contact with other people. My question is are more people being initiated to Bitcoin and are Bitcoins scams more frequent because of covid-19?
No, credit/debit cards are still the best option. Not unless you live in a country wherein there is a political crisis resulting to skyrocketing hyperinflation, for example Venezuela or Turkey, wherein bitcoin is being used because their national currency has collapsed.
4806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mike Novogratz and Dave Portnoy Say Buy Bitcoin and Not Gold on: August 16, 2020, 01:53:34 AM
Mike Novogratz and Dave Portnoy Say Buy Bitcoin and Not Gold

Quote
In an appearance on Bloomberg Television, Novogratz — founder of Galaxy Digital Holdings Ltd. — said that although he sees gold climbing above its record highs, Bitcoin is still the more worthy investment because it’s “harder to buy” than the traditional haven. He said about 25% of his net worth is tied up in the cryptocurrency.

“It’s only got a $20 billion market cap, while gold is over $10 trillion,” Novogratz said of Bitcoin. “So it’s got a long way to go to catch gold in terms of just adoption.” Still, he doesn’t recommend beginners put in more than 1-2% of their money into the digital currency.

Barstool Sports founder Portnoy, meanwhile, was sold on the cryptocurrency after being pitched by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. In a video posted on Portnoy’s Twitter feed, the twin brothers — who founded crypto exchange Gemini Trust — say Bitcoin has the potential to replace gold as a store of value. Their reasoning? They claim that Elon Musk has plans to mine gold from asteroids.

In a tweet after his interview with the Winklevoss twins, Portnoy suggested he has bought $1 million worth of Bitcoin.

More institutional money flowing to bitcoin? It's obvious shilling, but we all know that they have a point here. And as much as majority here hates Mike N with his exorbitant predictions or sometimes gloom and doom, hehehe.
4807  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I have Good advice for investors on: August 16, 2020, 01:26:35 AM
If You start trading and you have no clue about techicals or no help from someone who knows
You will lose your money likely.

You will fall in fomo and fud no matter what the Good news and bullish market out look the techicals analysed correctly never lie to You!!
I think many fall in FOMO in 2017 and get REKT when we enter the bear market. So yes, it's really hard to fall for it and not doing any research on your part. It's already proven.

If you Want to be successful trader you better learn hard as you can the techicals.
Majority will agree with you, but there could be some traders, we became successful by just simply getting themselves into trading and gain experience but loss money in the beginning. What I'm saying is that sometimes it's better to feel that inevitable, losing money to be better next time.
4808  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting scared is useful! on: August 15, 2020, 08:24:57 AM
I think my greatest fear in cryptocurrency is holding coins that might get into trouble if market will crash. For now, I need money and just saving it in crypto to get chances to earn or if not just to get to use of it in doing transaction since I have the app that uses crypto to pay bills or literally serves as an e wallet. Anyway, for now I was able to see that my savings increases and I made a line where I need to sell it right away if the coin market price drop to the line or in the line of price I wanted to sell. Just to be more safe just in case another market crash will going to happen.
Why? In the first place you should know by now that crypto is very volatile and if you are going to be a holder, you should have that mental toughness not to be afraid if the price crashes and portfolio going down as well. I think scared is not the term, but paranoid, as once Andy Grove of Intel said, "only the paranoid survive".
4809  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM - Coronainvest Ponzi scheme on: August 15, 2020, 04:38:40 AM
I thought that the Corona virus scam is done already, Lol, but it seems the bad actors just reinvent themselves now as ponzi scheme, very smart. But obviously, those exorbitant returns doesn't makes sense and its too good to be true.

Reported it already, https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/?hl=en
4810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will "De-Fi" replace traditional banking in the future? on: August 15, 2020, 04:15:15 AM
It there will be something that is going to replace traditional banking system, it should be bitcoin. However, it is not the case, too much issues, like scalability, market's volatility etc. And as far as Defi goes, it doesn't have the stability that banks gives. There are too many players in the market that can manipulate and then scams and hacks. So there's no way that banking system will become obsolete because of this Defi hype.
4811  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump signs executive orders banning TikTok and WeChat on: August 15, 2020, 03:56:13 AM
Looks like Trump just hating everything that connected with China. Who the hell use wechat outside China?
WeChat has been released in the following OS: Android, iOS, macOS, Windows. So imagine how many users potentially used it. In Playstore alone, it has been downloaded in millions so there's a big possibility that there are many users outside of China have it installed in their system. But the problem is with Trump, and it seems that he is blaming China for everything that has happened not just in the US but the whole world. And I agree that this is politically motivated indeed. He wanted to flex his muscle again to the Chinese.
4812  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopoulos: HEX offered me 10 BTC to show that it is not a scam on: August 15, 2020, 03:26:42 AM
Lesson to learn here - don't trust if even some very reputable person promotes a project and explicitly tells that it's not a scam. It's good that Andreas refused this offer, but somewhere out there some influencer might not. And don't forget that accounts can get hacked, even the highly public ones, recent Twitter hack shows it. Bitcoin doubling was an obvious scam, but it all could have been more subtle, like making crypto accounts shill for some shitcoins, for example.
Or someone like John Mcafee, pretending that his Twitter account was hacked because it was totally shilling a lot of shitcoins., John McAfee says his Twitter account was hacked. But obviously, it was not really hack, he just wanted to look like it, but then admitted later that he is demanding $100k per tweet. LMAO.

Kudos to Andreas Antonopoulos for "not losing it" to these scammers.
4813  Economy / Speculation / Re: Current Local Roadmap of Bitcoin on: August 15, 2020, 03:06:30 AM
For scalping, it's not for everyone, would you suggest this strategy short time or it's better to go long as we are in a bull run already?

Scalping is good for traders who have high risk tolerance and market experience, infact It's been a good time to do it judging how Btc has been moving in the $11,000 region lately.
Though traders may set up a strict exit point, and that's what it makes hard for some traders.
But to make it in a much safer position, your second opinion will be the best option as there will be a potential breakout sooner or later.
Yes but it's not for everyone because of the huge risk involved. I try to do scalping before, but it didn't work for me. Maybe others have good success rate or I do something wrong. Nevertheless, it is a learning experience for me. I guess, majority will agree that going long will be the best logical choice as break out to $12k or more are imminent.
4814  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Germany Continues Shutting All Unlicensed Bitcoin ATMs on: August 14, 2020, 10:31:03 AM
It may be a part of larger conspiracy against bitcoin or may not be! But if a government has a set regulation to be follower for all crypto related businesses, that must be followed! Businesses in Germany are lucky because they at least have a guideline to follow while in majority of the other countries, guidelines don't exist and regulators are free to make up any charges against the illegal business operators.
No, Germany is one country in Europe wherein crypto is readily accepted. So there's no conspiracy here. And this is one reason why there are so many ATM's in that country, because it is welcome. However, there are some that are going to take advantage so I think this is the right move to get rid of those illegal bitcoin ATM's. If the operators wanted to make it legal, it's very simply, they just have to follow what the government issued regulations and they will be fine.
4815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MicroStrategy company adopts Bitcoin as primary treasury reserve asset. on: August 14, 2020, 10:10:05 AM
Having more than 5% of a company's marketcap in bitcoin reserve - is a super bold decision for a listed company. It seems that the decision is received well by the shareholders as well because their share price is up by 9.12% already!
Yes, I would agree that such company would put 5% of their reserves to a crypto which is known for its volatility, risk and bold move.

I don't think we have seen similar steps taken by any other company ever to hold a major percentage of the cash reserve in bitcoin. I hope Microstrategy will be able to break a lot of misconceptions around crypto and also boost the credibility of bitcoin!
Bitcoin as already its credibility for institutional investors, its just that in this time, we are seeing them coming out of the closet, so to speak. I have speculate that after the 2017 crash, they slowly building and accumulating and now we know some of them cause they are identifying themselves in crypto media.
4816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Good project Vitalik! on: August 14, 2020, 09:10:40 AM
1 ETH = $ 424
What plans will you do after seeing this pump?
Add more? or Quick Selling?
Price is still cheap, you can still buy at the current price and stick with it.

i have no hesitation to add more ETH despite buying at a high price.
Good project Vitalik
Then add more in your portfolio, it already started, we might see it hitting $500 or more very easily and see another all-time-high 2021 with the rest of the cryptos. Of course, the price increase will not go on a parabolic rise as it might encounter a few dips or corrections. But definitely, nothing is wrong with buying at dips and continue to accumulate. Vitalik is a visionary, obviously and him and Satoshi should be appreciate by the crypto community.

4818  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez Lightweight Unification fight on: August 14, 2020, 08:18:59 AM
More on sponsors and advertisements
I understand this one, they will make money from advertisements as millions of people can watch this since it's free.

  plus the gambling industries.

However, I can seem to get what you mean that they will benefit from the gambling industry, in what way if you care to explain?
Yeah, I also didn't get why gambling industries, it should be the other way around, fights gives those online gambling sites more money. ESPN will probably attract a lot of advertisements here companies are willing to pay them big money just to put their name on the televised fights. I'm predicting like 800,000 peak viewership here. Easy 300,000 and then when it's time for the main event, it will double or even triple in numbers. What do you say guys?
4819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exactly 10 years ago Someone did a transfer of 184M BTC on: August 14, 2020, 08:00:38 AM
It was in the beginning though, but the thing is even during that time, the community is very active and caught this supposedly bug and was subsequently fix in no time.

could there ever be a way that someone else is using the network to benefit his own needs while exploiting some bug in the network we cant even see?

or that's not possible and he is fooling me ?
Yes, it's called 51% attack, there was a time wherein one mining pool has the hashing power to do that. You can even read it in the Whitepaper itself, https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf - Section 11 "Calculations.
4820  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Trump signs executive orders banning TikTok and WeChat on: August 13, 2020, 01:56:19 PM
If a company from USA ends up buying tiktok that would be the worst type of acqusation out there. Tiktok is just a social media phenom right now that will die down, all remember vine? Everyone was using vine for a long period of time and after a while they all stopped, now almost nobody uses it, or at least I haven't seen any in years.
On the contrary, there has been a reports that Microsoft itself with generate billions up acquiring Tiktok,

https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/20/08/17010623/what-buying-tiktok-could-mean-for-microsoft

But remain to be seen.

So that means tiktok is something to ban right now, and if you ban it, that means you will not get to see it for a long period of time ever again, it will die down, however if you end up buying it, that means you are going to pay a lot of money at its peak height for something that will die down and not be big of a deal anymore. I wouldn't even buy facebook right now, not the company but the website, so that shows how much I think tiktok is a bad decision for microsoft.
So let's see how Microsoft could turn around this ban from Trump. Initially it was said the ban is just for 45 days so perhaps after that it will be allowed but with censorship. So it could be the blunder of the century (for Microsoft at least).
