4821  Other / Meta / Re: BAN APPEAL KrisAlex18 - I AM BANNED WITHOUT REASON. on: August 05, 2020, 01:53:17 AM
When you get banned, you get a PM that gives you a reason (whether you agree with it or not), so what did the PM say?

I don't think you were banned because some mod thought you were a bot, but maybe it was for spamming--apparently a lot of your posts didn't seem to have anything to do with the thread which they were in.

Also, did you get a permaban or is it just a temporary one?
4822  Economy / Reputation / Re: is it just me? on: August 04, 2020, 11:15:06 PM
I don't think OP meant any harm by his mention of Russian gamblers, if they even are Russian, or that sportsbet is selectively targeting them.  Not sure why some members are reacting so strongly to that.

Is it only me? I am seeing far too many newbie accounts are either getting scammed or playing forum politics.
My first thought was what adam0991 articulated:

I would assume it’s more due to the fact that all these topics are appearing on google, which is bringing new users to the forum to also submit their complaints.

My gut feeling is telling me this isn't a case of a bunch of alt accounts ganging up on a casino, though I certainly could be wrong.  And since there have been a couple other threads from users reporting problems with sportsbet, I bet the newbies were probably directed here via a web search.  Hell, that's how I discovered the forum.
4823  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Good idea for a new trader to get into derivative trading? on: August 04, 2020, 10:57:24 PM
If you're asking whether a genuine newcomer to trading ought to dive into derivatives, I would have to say NO....and I would scream that from the hilltops.

New traders ought to start small and get a feel for how the market works before putting larger amounts of money into trading and certainly before branching out into things like futures and options and even short selling.

As far as cryptocurrencies are concerned, I don't think there are many small-time derivative traders on exchanges like Bakkt.  The "little guy" usually does his trading on those crypto exchanges we all know, and they buy and sell actual coins and not derivatives.  To each his own, though.  If there's someone with enough confidence and at least some knowledge of how derivatives work, I say go for it.  That description doesn't fit the usual newbie trader, however.

Derivative trading should be duly avoided by beginner traders at all cost. It doesn't help to skip the line and head straight to playing with margins.
Derivatives and margin trading are two different things, just so you know.  Margin is the use of leverage, and you can trade derivatives with or without it.
4824  Other / Meta / Re: Is this considered a death threat? on: August 04, 2020, 08:32:36 PM
No, I wouldn't consider that a death threat at all, regardless of the member's previous history of alleged death threats.  It sounds like it could just be that the meaning of "burn you" got lost in the translation--I seriously doubt this is a threat to literally kill you by setting you on fire.  In the US if you tell someone you're going to burn them, you're basically telling them that you're going to beat them in whatever activity is taking place.

I haven't seen many true death threats being made on bitcointalk, and most of the ones that were questionable have been because English isn't the member's first language, and a simple expression of anger can come off sounding like an actual threat.  That's my take on this, anyway.
4825  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Funds frozen at sportsbet.io on: August 04, 2020, 06:23:54 PM
You gotta love how there are always 4 accounts mentioned in the customer support e-mail. Amazing totally not coincidence.
Is that because they're being used to take advantage of multiple offerings by the casino or for some other way of "cheating" (I don't know if it's cheating or not)?  I'm not a gambler and don't visit these sites, but I recently heard something like that.

Also, is there something going on over at sportsbet.io or what?  I'm seeing quite a few scam accusations, and this guy is wondering the same thing as well, though I'm not sure if it's a Russian thing or not.

Is really something suspicious are happening with sportbet.io? I have seen recently there is a couple of accusation are active here and this is another one.
You're asking the question too, so now I'm really curious if there's a situation happening (like an exit scam) or if this is just a cluster of problems that will eventually get fixed.  I'm definitely staying tuned to see what transpires.
4826  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone in the Bitcoin ATM business? on: August 04, 2020, 05:00:25 PM
However, it's not that easy to garante the profit as the operator has to target several factors like the location, the legislation, the bank relationships,...and many other factors.
Yeah, I would imagine it would be extremely hard to try to estimate how much profit you're going to make by running a BTC ATM.  I'd really like to know how much use they get--I know the US has a ton of them spread all over, but that doesn't mean people are actually using them.  And even if someone wanted to buy bitcoin and had easy access to a BTC ATM, it would cost much less to use Coinbase or LBC or some other service.  The premium you pay for bitcoin over the spot price by buying it at an ATM is mind-boggling, and I'm not sure there are that many folks who need bitcoin badly enough to continue buying it that way.

And I'll tell you, if the fees they charge came down to a reasonable amount I'd be buying bitcoin at the ATM that's about 15 miles away from me every chance I could get--but as it stands, I could just buy it on the Currency Exchange section and get it at preev 1:1.  So to me it's just not worth it.
4827  Other / Meta / Re: Protecting Your Account on: August 03, 2020, 11:47:59 PM
Extra careful upon handling our accounts, treat this as one of your valuable stuff if you value your account. So far, I never change password and I never visit my email address.
Agree with the bolded part above 100%, and that sucks nuts that BitcoinGirl.Club got hacked like that.

I would probably cry like a baby if that happens to me mygoodness.
I probably would as well, and it would drive me insane trying to undo whatever damage had been caused by the hack, plus I'd probably be paranoid as hell for an indeterminate amount of time.  I've had my e-mail address in my BCT profile hidden for as long as I can remember, but I changed my e-mail address to a throwaway one just now.

OP, I appreciate you creating this thread.  Even though I was apparently safe, it's a good thing to let the community know about things like this that they might not even think twice about, especially newbies who might not be aware of how many hackers and scammers there are in the cracks and under the floorboards of the forum.
4828  Other / Off-topic / Re: Trump is preparing to ban TikTok on: August 03, 2020, 08:01:46 PM
Nothing is private this days ... privacy is dead  ...
I wouldn't declare it dead just yet, but it's in hospice on a pretty high dose of morphine.

If you broadcast your life on social media sites like FB, Twitter, and all the other ones you can kiss all of your privacy goodbye.  It is still possible to live under the radar if you don't have a big internet presence.  Now as far as this TikTok thing is concerned, why does it surprise anyone that Trump would do something like this?  It's Donald Trump we're talking about for fuck's sake.  And frankly it wouldn't bother me one bit if he did ban TikTok, although I'm not sure I'd like the precedent it would be setting.

It's difficult to know how much of what Trump says at the moment is something that he means to follow through with, and how much is just something that he thinks will sound popular with an election just around the corner.
That is definitely true.  I recall him telling America that he was going to send in the national guard to quell the protests in Seattle (when they had that "autonomous zone"), which was followed by no action whatsoever.  I'm actually glad he didn't call out the troops, but he lost some credibility in my eyes by barking empty threats.

It's also important to note that Trump can't just do whatever he wants to do, regardless of what he says.  He's got Congress and the Senate to deal with, plus all of the other government branches that put checks and balances on his power.  It's a damn good thing, too.
4829  Economy / Reputation / Re: Members Asking For Donations To Help Poor People on: August 03, 2020, 05:51:44 PM
I hate charities in real life too. Most of them are scammers.
I agree with you, though I wouldn't go so far as to use the word hate to describe my feelings, since at least some of them do some real good in the world.  The problem I have with charities in general is how they use their donated funds--you think all the money you give a charity is going toward whatever the charity's purpose is, but the reality is that most of it goes for administrative funds or other uses that don't help anybody but the charity itself.

As far as people on bitcointalk asking for donations, I thought that was against the rules--though I'll admit I haven't read the rules in a while and don't remember a specific rule about charity-giving.  The no-begging rule I'm well aware of, and I've reported a few threads for that even though the members were claiming the funds were going to go toward a good cause.

But even if it's allowed, I'd be extremely careful sending bitcoin to anybody here no matter what they say or who they claim they are.  There are scammers everywhere, and the way I see it is that it's more likely it's a scammer asking for your donations than a legitimate charity.
4830  Economy / Economics / Re: Second Stimulus check - What are you going to do with it? on: August 03, 2020, 04:50:21 PM
I think however that some people will be using their checks for entertainment expenses, and if they're giving checks to people who don't need it, then their rules aren't stringent enough and this is basically injecting more money into the economy which is an outcome we don't want, since this is virtually creating more money and will cause a deprecation of the dollar eventually.
Of course people are going to spend free cash on entertainment and other non-necessities.  I think the majority of US citizens aren't in danger of starvation if they don't get a second stimulus check.

But the question is, what am I going to do with it.  My bills are paid at the moment, so I'll probably just save it or invest it in the stock market in case I need it later.  I'm not quite sure what bitcoin is going to be doing, and since its price has increased a lot over the last week or so, I don't think I'll be buying any.  I love bitcoin, but it's looking pretty risky right now.

if buying crypto is allowed , why not, since we know crypto is on fire from 2 weeks ago.
Yeah, it's allowed.  The government just sends you a check or deposits funds directly into your bank account, and you're free to do whatever you want with it.  As to your second statement, since bitcoin is on fire, that's the reason I'm reluctant to buy any.  I don't think it's near the top for the year, but bitcoin is so unpredictable that I wouldn't chance it.
4831  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What is your experience of using Kraken exchange? on: August 02, 2020, 09:59:55 PM
My experience with Kraken was such that I completely forgot about them until I saw this thread.  I did (and might still) have an account with them, but I never did a lot of trading because they only offered several altcoins and I never got approved to use fiat.  I tried to go through their KYC procedure with a selfie holding my drivers license and they kept telling me it wasn't clear enough--so I gave up.

I used kraken 4 years ago and there UI is really complicated for me compared to Binance and Coinbase which I can easily determine how to trade because order book is alrwady open once you click buy/sell.
Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks their UI sucks, and I think I've written about that in some previous threads.  I always felt that the site was completely unintuitive and since they certainly weren't the only game in town, I decided to use other exchanges.

It's the oldest regulated exchange, running since 2011.
What i like the most in Kraken is that even it's a centralised exchange, KYC is not enforced to trade cryptocurrencies with a withdraw limit of 2500$ paer week, but it's mandatory for Fiat deposits/withdrawals.
Kraken also has one of the greatest support service throughout a variety of channels, working 24/7.
I'll give them props for surviving that long in a very competitive environment, and I agree that their customer service is top notch compared to some other exchanges.  They're not the worst one out there, but Kraken is definitely not on my list of favorites.
4832  Economy / Economics / Re: In the pandemic economy, tech companies are raking it in on: August 02, 2020, 08:18:45 PM
I don't find this surprising at all, or even that interesting really.  Anyone with half a brain could have predicted that when people are forced to stay at home they're going to be online a lot more--especially on social media sites like FB, Twitter, etc., and Youtube watching videos.  It would have been easily predicted that businesses like Amazon would start booming, too.  Hell, at the beginning of the pandemic I had to order cat food from Amazon because my local stores had a hard time keeping their shelves stocked.

So it's great for the tech companies, but I'm really hoping smaller, local businesses start to recover and that people start to get back to work.  Those things will be huge positives for the economy as a whole and not just stockholders of FB, Alphabet, Amazon, and the other companies that have benefited from the COVID-19 problem.

As an aside, I really wish Amazon Prime would get some new videos.  I think I've watched all of the good ones so far and have had to resort to watching videos of BLM protests and whatnot on Youtube.  Those are interesting but are beginning to get old.  lol
4833  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Yes, the Keepkey is a worthless black bricklet on: August 02, 2020, 06:30:07 PM
Google tells me I'm not alone. That confirms the "worthless black brick" Sad
I didn't consult Google when I was having my issues with the Keepkey, but I assumed I wasn't alone as far as all the frustration and disappointment was concerned.

I'm not sure what to do with the "Loading Accounts" thing.
Not sure if you're into meditation or hypnosis, but you could use it as a point of focus since it's never going to disappear.  Then again, it might not help you to relax at all since it's a reminder of how shitty the Keepkey is and of the time you've wasted on it.  Good luck using it as a travel wallet, and I mean that sincerely.  If you do end up having a positive experience with it, please revisit this thread and tell us how it's going.

When a WALLET requires KYC, it is no longer a wallet. No ducking or dodging by talking about mergers please.
Yeah, that whole thing looked pretty messed up to me and put a sour taste in my mouth instantly.  It was all downhill after that, and at this point my Keepkey is probably rotting away in whatever dump my garbage goes to.  RIP, little useless brick.
4834  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I finally broke down and bought a Ledger Nano X, and I have a question. on: August 02, 2020, 05:00:40 PM
Thanks to Leo for suggesting I use a different PC account, which just goes to show you how little I know about computers.  I swear sometimes I think I majored in the wrong subject in college and should have studied computer science.

Anyway, it worked and so I now can run both the Ledger S and X using separate LL accounts.  Thanks to everyone for their help, I do appreciate it very much.
4835  Economy / Reputation / Re: How to get DT on: August 01, 2020, 09:26:24 PM
I am pretty sure OP knows all this, if I have to guess reasoning behind this topic, I would say OP isn't satisfied how DT system works. Well, I can't blame him for that.
I had no idea what OP was talking about and couldn't figure out the logic behind this accusation until I read your post, so thank you for clarifying the situation.

And yeah, the DT system has a lot of problems--but I'm not sure why OP is so hot and bothered by LFC_Bitcoin's inclusion of Rohang into his trust list.  Is it jealousy or does he think there's actual abuse going on?  Obviously leaving positive feedback for sportsbet.io doesn't automatically result in someone being added to DT....sometimes this forum gives me a serious fucking headache.
4836  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is changelly trustworthy? on: August 01, 2020, 08:17:29 PM
Using changelly certainly was a one time mistake for me.
I'm letting you know, because I whish somebody would've told me before...
I know this thread is a little old, but usually they operate smoothly--and I'm basing that simply from my dozen or so transactions with them--however, they can and do mess things up from time to time.  Fortunately their customer service isn't as bad as, say, Yobit's but there's definitely some room for improvement as far as I'm concerned.

Changelly are another place that springs KYC on you out of nowhere and have openly stated they will keep your money if they decided you haven't 'passed'.
Did they start requiring KYC?  I haven't used them in quite some time and won't be henceforth if they do require it.
4837  Economy / Reputation / Re: [click-bait] Should I start escrowing accounts? on: August 01, 2020, 05:35:33 PM
How can we stop scammers from making a profit by pretending to sell accounts they don't have?
I'm not sure there's much any of us can do to stop that.  A scammer could always refuse to use an escrow and wait for a sucker who doesn't mind not using one either.

If you're asking whether you should start escrowing accounts that are for sale, I have no problem with that, and I've said this before.  I certainly do not approve of account sales, but I know they're going to happen and I would not place any of the blame of the wrongness involved in the transaction on the escrower.  The escrow is just keeping both parties safe.

But I love seeing future scammers and spammers getting screwed on their first step itself.
I don't. Even if the victim deserves it, the scammer doesn't deserve the profit.
The little devil that lives on my shoulder agrees with pokeronlinestatus here and giggles with glee when someone is scammed in an account sale.

I believe campaign abused is not a problem anymore because of the merit system and the competition in participating campaigns. Most of the bounty campaigns too are not paying anymore so buying account is not that profitable for abuser.
The merit system has certainly helped, but there are still signature campaigns out there that have a tier-based payment structure whereby higher-ranked members are paid more, so account sales are still a problem.

I don't follow the Services section, however.  Has the number of signature campaigns been decreasing?
4838  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I finally broke down and bought a Ledger Nano X, and I have a question. on: August 01, 2020, 03:38:28 PM
I guess that depends on if you're going to use them with the same seed or set them up as "independent" devices with different seeds etc...
Yeah, I wanted a completely different seed, but it sounds like that isn't going to be very convenient to do.  Ah well, I suppose if I ever end up buying a laptop I'll install LL on that and fire up the Nano X.  No rush.

But Ledger Live is still not well developed and has low functionality compared say with Electrum.
I'm not a computer savvy person, so I'll assume you are and respect your opinion, but I think it's a pretty decent app and has all the functionality I need.  I've never tried out another HW wallet except for the Keepkey (which has now found a home in the city dump) so I don't have much to compare it to.

Thanks for your input, guys.  I'm going to keep the thread open, because I still might read some good info.
4839  Economy / Economics / Re: Philippines will drop as a Country, Economy on its worst! on: July 31, 2020, 11:37:19 PM
If you have any money left then start buying gold or cryptos because the value of fiat is going to get a big hit if the economy falls rapidly.
I'm not so sure that's a great idea.  If the economy suffers, you're going to need cash to pay for everything and I'd only invest in gold as a hedge against inflation if I had a serious excess of money.  As far as buying bitcoin, that would be an extremely risky move and I wouldn't advise it if you think your job is in jeopardy or something similar.  It's just too volatile.

OP, I rarely hear anything about the Philippines in the news and I didn't know it had gotten as bad as you describe.  That sucks and I feel for you.  But what else can you do?  If you can afford to, you could emigrate to a different country, but that's a huge life change that most people would be reluctant to do.  I would just say stay hopeful and remember that this whole coronavirus outbreak is going to pass and the economy is eventually going to improve.  You just have to hold on until things start to normalize.
4840  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / I finally broke down and bought a Ledger Nano X, and I have a question. on: July 31, 2020, 07:26:53 PM
I returned an item to Amazon and got a bunch of store credit, so I went through my wish list and decided it was time to buy a Nano X.

I'm not averse to reading instructions before asking questions, nor am I a complete dumbass (you might have a different opinion on that), but my question is this:  The first step in the instructions is to download Ledger Live, which I already have installed for my Nano S.  Is it possible to use the two devices on one PC and if so, how do I do it?  Is there an obvious solution to this that I'm missing or what?

And by the way, it is definitely a slick-looking device and I like the added heft compared to the Nano S.  I haven't really played around with it yet, but so far so good.  Any help would be appreciated.
