fwiw, Bitcoin doesn't use :25. Very easy to change port Bitcoin client uses, also easy to change with miners, though you're limited to whichever ports your pool op has open unless you're going solo (dunno about p2pool). I was just curious if Comcast was bumbling around with a paintbrush to say the large amount of small data exchanges between miners & pool was virus-like activity.

ETA @ Mike & AB -- I think y'all are right. Every computer I run has a relatively fresh install with only mining essentials installed. There are three exceptions. On PC acts as a TV and it's possible it's infected -- I haven't checked it well. This PC acts as my general use computer... pretty confident it isn't infected, and I checked traffic with Peerblock (nothing unexpected), checked to make sure no unknown services/programs were running... no CPU clocks going to anything unknown. Other is a retired laptop, which isn't doing it. Asked relative about he own laptop, she said she ran A/V software on it, and I didn't press to check it. Getting curious, but I have other stuff to do. Will update if I find anything.

ISP scares the Hell out of me. I only use it because I've moved in with family in the past month while house sells. Have mining rigs set up. Never had any problems with TWC, but Comcast seems determined to monitor EVERYTHING that goes through them.

About a month ago, Comcast insisted there was malware installed on computers in this house (family member tends to have malware on her computer, but was odd that this first came just after I set the rigs up). I checked all the computers -- nothing unusual going on, no concerning network traffic, no p2p-software (outside Bitcoin) was/is running. This morning, Comcast sent another email saying they were blocking port 25 due to "detected virus-like activity from your modem." Checked, and there's no network traffic using :25. Is this all due to Bitcoin mining traffic? Anyone have similar experiences? Becoming concerned they're going to try imposing fees or canceling service.

fwiw, tried all flavors - favorite was actually the chocolate (tasty crunch & additional flavor to enjoy), followed by almond. Raspberry (wasn't getting much raspberry flavor except when I nibbled on a seed)  & plain were good, but didn't like the high-salt caramels (salt was a bit overwhelming).

I hate to be the one to point out concerning information, but as I wandered the isles of the powerful symbol which secures Bitcoin's future, I couldn't help but notice a lack of new items. I strolled down the aisles the other day... pristine, functioning refrigerated shelves, bright displays, a few people -- not many people, and no new products.... Sure, Saul's Orange Juice has a "new & improved" look, but I can point you toward my own goat cheese sales (creation commissioned by Goat, oddly enough -- I don't even like the stuff) to show just how needed community production is right now to spur the community's growth. The owner committed to funding it forever, and he certainly has the money to do so, but the lack of producers' interest in such a fantastic medium is concerning, to say the least. The building cost about as much as the entire value of Bitcoins. The store simply carries the best products, though -- amazing artisan cuts of meat, lambs grown by individuals and families - their meat (the lambs', that is) sold for Bitcoins to sustain their remarkable livelihood, which is quite rare. Very few people are able to see their product go from start to finish, and not a benefit to society the Bitcoin community should casually ignore.

Going back before it gets too light out. Last time, I ended up being chased by bees, and I have no idea how I went from checking stock in the Bitcoin supermarket to being outside and chased by bees (which were perched on tree branches). Oh... I vaguely remember, now... there was a radio advertisement in the store about what life would be like in a libertarian society trying to catch a cab, and I talked to a manager about how propaganda-y it sounded, but he told me to keep listening... The dream then shifted and I observed a fellow who was mugged and ended up in a homeless shelter... .... No - still don't see where the bees are coming in.

Whether or not it's profitable depends on how many cards you're running per rig, PSU efficiency, and draw of other components. But, assuming you run 2 cards @ 90MH/s on one rig, and total, the rig consumes 300W, and say you spend $.125/kWh for electricity after fees/taxes....  No, it wouldn't. It perhaps could be if you have very cheap electricity or slap 4-8 cards in a single rig, but you probably wouldn't be seeing much profit margin, and you'd be at a high risk of it being unprofitable as difficulty/price changes while others are upgrading to much more energy-efficient rigs.

I've had an idea for a while where the lender sends the lendee a code written on paper in the mail. The lendee then types that code out to the lender. This confirms the address (or confirms he's around there, or that someone connected to the lendee lives there). Combined with request for ID or a utility bill showing the lendee lives there sounds like a fair way to prevent large loans lost to fraud.

But, this eliminates the loan market for those seeking a cover for Bank-Dwolla transfers, which, at least for me, accounts for many of the transfers. .... Requesting social networking information, though, is interesting... but someone as committed as yourself would probably not have much trouble faking that, either.

That gets establishing the person being a person out of the way (eliminating the problem where someone can simply use a few different username handles, then request loans from the same people - though it doesn't help if the scammer just asks different lenders unless lenders are expected to pool phone recordings), but does not solve the important issue of it being impractical to collect from defaulters - assuming the person's even in the same country. All bad loans I'm aware of could have been avoided by insisting on tighter restrictions on who's allowed to take out loans (with regards to reputation) - this includes using the tools which exist for credit-checking.

The recent gurg/westcoastconnect/kujoking scam was pretty different from previous problems. He had extensive back-stories (one story I was told was that he worked at a small balloon animal kiosk and wanted to purchase higher-end balloons at a wholesale price, but needed a loan to meet the minimum order requirement), gave addresses and other identifying information - but the information was fake. He gave plenty of identifying info (which turned out to be fake), did a few trades prior, and sounded sincere. Perhaps, the lenders could insist the lendee wait to be lent BTC until he receives a paper code at his/her address, then type it to the lender, to confirm where the lendee lives - but then it pushes out many people who want loans for something immediate (many are waiting for bank transfers to Dwolla to clear).

Not exactly an important issue - I'd guess Blizzard has... you know... people who know what they're talking about who've figured this is legal.
