"All clients getting their SP20s:

- Please set your PSU settings to match your PSU. The default value is low and will not give you beyond 1.3Th - it matches weak PSUs. Set it to 288 if you have strong PSU.

- SP20 are very sensitive to temperature. You should be able to get 1.8+Th in 10c, 1.7+Th in 20c and 1.6+Th in 30c (+- 5%). Do your best to cool the units."

My results are completely the opposite of the above statements from Spondoolies website...
-dual weak (750-700w range)  PSU's appear to be way more stable than anything large and efficient.  So far my best results have come from a pair of bronze rated PSU's over any combination of large platinum rated PSU's.
-I have yet to reach 1.8 and have run the machine in temps from 0c to 25c, right now its in a 5c climate and cranked up to 288 running 1.6-1.625....

I have emailed Spondoolies but have not recieved a response....cheers...keith

pretty much the same experience I have here , one 800watt psu and one 1000watt psu.  can't get it to hash over 1640 or so.

I do think there is a definite Firmware update that could fix it.... but the limits of the hardware would be stressed and probably fail.... I will show all the data as soon as I hear back from Spondoolies (it been a few days and I have not heard a peep)....

A single 1200 watt PSU seems to have been fried by the sp20 so sticking to two PSU's going forward.   The sp20 cannot seem to pull enough juice from the rails to get better hash rates.

Then again 1.8 TH at 4x330 watts seems pretty the same as 1.6 TH at 4x290 watts  my math is probably off as usuall.

If the firmware is fixed to allow the units to pull more than 288 watts we could probably get better hash rates I imagine.

ALso raising the voltages seems to cause major instabilities as well so maybe the fix is there /shrug

Hi guys.
I will release a new FW for SP20 that fixes the stability issue. Please stay tuned.
Regarding the overclocking, there are 2 limitations: 288 watt on connector and the temperature (on both ASICs and DC2DC).
In cold environment I think it can be pushed much higher then current limits, but let's get some experience with it running on the spec before you start pushing it further.

I am in a very cold enviroment front temp is 5c and back is maxed at 65 and 59 and i still cant push it past 1650 TH due to voltage/watt limitations on the firmware :stablity does not seem to be an issue in my case so I'm not sure if the new sp20 FW will be of help to me.

only see around 20% utility from my miner is that normal ?
4845  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 15, 2014, 02:11:34 AM

is it possible to run the unit with a fan ? I have a really cold environment or would it not boot up ?

You mean without a fan? It would run but it would probably be very slow and would restart alot and be unreliable.

You need to move air over the heatsinks to remove the heat. If you have very cold air (sub 10°C you could use a slower quiet fan around 90CFM) You could probably even use the fan on the outside of the miner. I'd want to test it thats for sure. But I doubt you would get anywhere near 1.7TH

thanks
4846  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 15, 2014, 12:46:52 AM

Imo, the sp20 is a tempting offer in comparison, but the noise and low buying power of. A bitcoin right now are holding me back. Anyone managed to sub in quieter fans to make this acceptable for living in the same floor of a house with?

...
Gone from 1.3x to 1.5x 1.665TH and climbing now, back temperatures gone from 37 to 67°C 77°C!
Keep your room cozy and warm in the winter ...

I am going to have to do something about the fan though, this thing is loud! Louder than all my other miners combined.

If I can't do anything about it I'll have to sell it I think Sad

This is the fan used in the SP20.. beast of a thing!

Damn, fan uses a 4pin PWM Graphics card type header. Going to have to get one of these if I want to try other fan types:

PWM Fan Adapter for VGA Cooler Fan

Don't buy this adapter its a different fitting on the SP20

Good news is that it runs without anything plugged into the header so I'm testing another solution

Latest update (from other thread)

I've currently got two Coolermaster Jetflo 90+CFM fans powered from the PSU, one replacing the internal fan and one on the outside pushing air in at the back.

Not-so good news is thats not enough airflow to keep the unit performing at spec, sweet spot seems to be just under 1.4TH

Temp Front / Back T,B
33 °C / 86,87 °C

But its now normal miner sound levels Smiley

I've got two other fans to try out at between 120-150CF<, still haven't got the connector sourced, its some sort of wire to board molex micro or pico connector, I guess you could solder the custom connector onto the fan wires if you wanted a stock look.

At the moment the wire comes out the side of the lid and to a 4 pin molex from the PSU, not pretty but I'd rather quiet than pretty.

Hopefully will get a chance to test the new fans today, so can update with pics.

is it possible to run the unit with a fan ? I have a really cold environment or would it not boot up ?
4847  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 14, 2014, 09:14:50 PM
The Sp20s do not seem to generate enough heat though for my purposes even with the fan throttled to 60%

The heat generation IS NOT proportional with the fan setting. The unit cooling IS though.
The heat generation IS proportional with the energy used, as long as you consider the PSU and chip performance being constant.

Yes i get that but I am unable to get the sp20 to to use more power seems to cap at 290 or so per power slot.   even though i have two 800Watt gold PSU's.

when i max out the voltage to .79 the unit hashes even lower than the .75 volts i have been able to have it run stabley at .

keep in mind i am running it in a cold shed around 7-8 c front so cooling is not the issue

Still no reply from Minersource about my promised refund it's now almost a year ago since I pre-ordered and paid for 2 Blackarrow X-1 miners, worst. decision. ever.  Angry

They only have to send me 1 BTC (less then 50% of what I paid) which is done in less then a minute, instead they decide to simply keep my money going against all consumer protection laws. I don't know what to do anymore..

Might as well write it off as a loss , if you are in the US you can deduct it from your taxes..

its an End of August sp30 machine not sure if it is still under warranty what is the procedure for replacing it ?  Is it via email or via
the website.

thanks
Contact support@ to approve RMA

Done and thanks, hope this gets resloved soon, the SP30 is part of my heating solution in the home and i'm in the progress of purchasing a few more sp20s for garage heating as well.  The Sp20s do not seem to generate enough heat though for my purposes even with the fan throttled to 60%

So i turned off that entire loop of asics that #17 ( the problem one is on) and the miner seems stable now hashing at 4.2 TH or so (240V) front temp 20c

I still need to set up a support call with Zavisha to see if he can reslove the problem with that loop but as long as it stays stable I will hang on to the unit.

I finally saw some large photos of the SP20, looks pretty nice inside, clean and neat. Does that have just one fan? Is it very loud the other SP models? This unit seems to be made for the home, so my dad is asking me about if it is loud or not. Is it tolerable to be in the same room with it and have a phone conversation?

its pretty loud , unless you are in a cool enough area where you can run the fans at 60% its loud.  You should be able to hold a phone conversation though just raise your voice a bit

Skype me at zvi_shteingart

I'm at my 9-5 right now no access to the unit which is down right now , we skyped last week when I initally contacted you if you remeber we had the issue with trying to switch the firmware where the dropdown of previous versions did not show up.  You provided me the link to download the firmware and I was able to downgrade but
the issues still persisted.  I can ping you again in a few hours if you want to take a look at the unit.

thanks

It's looking more certain that what we've been seeing in our DC is a poor reaction of SP30s to temperatures below about 6°C. We haven't seen any issues with SP10s yet at these temperatures.
Some machines work fine at low temperatures. I've seen a few operate just dandy at intake temperatures as low as 2°C. However, others will show problems at intake temperatures as high as 8°C.

When a machine has trouble at low temperatures, it's often specific ASICs that show the problem (often #2 and #17). It's not always the ASICs in the front that have issues, though it seems more common to be those. Once an ASIC has trouble at low temperatures, it sometimes has trouble even when warmed up. Sometimes it has to be disabled permanently; other times it can be enabled once the machine is warmer.

Indeed, but a hardware to be reliable, must handle 25°C variation without too much trouble. Here at low temperature some ASICs can't start. It will be a good idea to add a 'delay' option for the troublesome ASICs where they are turn off during the cold start and enabled later. Adding an option to change the Fan speed according to the intake temperature, will be a good too idea too. (I suspect this issue to trigger some machines crashes when minergate restart).

We're investigating.
I  see the same issues at higher temps : 24c to 30c , I disabled the troubled asics and still every few hours when I check the machines half the Asics will report failed , sometimes all with the machine not even mining at all.

Its a deeper issue with the firmware than just temps I think.  Getting really frustrating at this point basically tried everything to keep it stable but nothing seems to work.  I have to bounce it every few hours but I don't have time to babysit it I have other stuff to do.

confused a bit on the stat pages for the sp20 vs sp30 using 2.5.13

Statistics

as you can see the mining rate is stable at 1626 GH whereas the 5min gh/s stays from 1700 to somtmes 1800 GH

same thing on the SP30 the 5 min rate is conistantly higer sometimes I see like 4700 GH vs the actual of 4400.

which number is the real number ?

4856  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 11, 2014, 11:38:25 PM
Version 2.5.12 became the official, 2.5.6 removed and 2.5.13 is the latest experimental.
2.5.12 - different handling of BIST and Murata flow - improves stability.
2.5.13 - sets default (after factory reset) values to 1275/288 in SP3x/SP2x. Redirection bug fixed. Handling of ambient temperatures lower then 0c added.

So which firmware should I install on an Emerson PSU set I currently have 2.5.1 and its still unstable  not getting more than 3TH and asics keep failing with that loop error.

I rue the day I updated my firmware when I was happily hashing at around 4.5 TH for months.

Is there a process to roll back?

you can roll back contact Zivi there is a URL where you can download the firmware directly i.e the version you want , in my case I thnk it was too late some of my asics are permenatly damaged I think.

Is there any possibility of those with damage hardware to get coupons for discounts on the newley priced sp20s ?  I'm down around 250GH of hashing power now

I got nothing either I paid the full $1200 price for an sp30 (using my $800) coupon from a my sp30 august order that was not up to specs .

I would have put together the BTC to buy 2 sp20s at this discount price so sad Sad

Still having issues with mine.  I'm thing 2.5.7 might have damaged my Asics its super unstable.  Right now I have it reset to factory setting at 70% fan.  When I try to bump up the fan to my normal
80% the problems get worse : constant cgminer restarts asics going into fault loop.  ugh this is not good.
4860  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 10, 2014, 07:32:53 AM
We found out that dropping the SP20 package may cause the boards to shift.

We got complaints from about 2% of non palletes customers. Most of the units can be fixed at home by replacing the boards.

We halt individual package shipments for one week, until we'll solve the issue.

If you got such SP20, contact support@ for miner assembly guide. If the SP20 was actually damaged, we'll RMA.

Guy

Hi. I got my miner November 7th. Got it all plugged in and the 2nd board would cause a halt in cgminer. Miner would not hash. Eventually, I disabled all the ASICS on the 2nd board, and the miner would hash with only the first module.

Noticed that the boards sat at an angle inside the case, so I opened it up and re-aligned. The boards are not screwed in or secured with anything except some grooves raised up from the enclosure. Pretty cheap design, which is prone to board shifting if handled rough in transit.

After re-aligning, I manually enabled and disabled each ASIC on board 2, and figured out that ASIC 4 will not work under any voltage, the other ASICs on the board work fine. Getting 1300 GH/s with 7 ASICS...so not too bad at max 225w per module setting. I'll turn up the juice once all the problems have been worked out, hopefully.

Got an e-mail tonight from Barbara saying they will refund 0.12 BTC because the SP20s shipped late. I'm cool with that, so I thanked her and also told her to forward my diagnosis to tech support. Also filed a form for tech support asking for directions as to how to proceed. Requested they send me a replacement board.

I'd rather not ship the whole thing back and lose hashing time. I can do major surgery on just about any electronic device without a problem.

I have an SP10 Dawson also that has been going without a problem for months now. I can't really say I'm impressed with the SP20, because I'm so far pretty underwhelmed.

Firmware is still 2.5.6, not really sure about any other versions. Hopefully they will get all the bugs worked out soon.

Yup, I'm facing the exact same issue as you with the warped board. Barbara has also replied to my earlier email which included pictures of the board when I unpacked it saying that they are looking into it. Let's hope they are able to get back with a fix.

Cheers
We'll ship replacement SP20 after fixing the package issue next week.

Guy

heh ....get replacement miner ..grab both miners move quick! (kidding just kidding)

 Jeez you are an idiot
