4845  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Karpeles arrest and bitcoin's social stigma. on: August 06, 2015, 10:46:08 AM
bitcoin is a technology. some new tech can change world and some inventions never make it. we don't know yet regarding bitcoin. what we know for sure is that arseholes will always use whatever they can to fuck around honest people. i don't think it is bitcoins "fault" that arseholes can use it.

Well, sorta.
The problem's Bitcoin lends itself so well to scamming/crime.  It's not AK47's fault that people kill people, but, all things being equal, a fellow who set hs mind on killing could kill more folks with an ack than, oh, let's say a jelly doughnut.

Despite the stigma that the US media tries to put on it, Kalashnikov pattern rifles are the most popular and widely-used assault rifles in the world due to their simple, reliable and rugged designs. I'd be more than pleased if Bitcoin became as popular widely-used as the AK47.

This sentence wanna make me watch lord of war again Smiley

Btw bitcoin = ak47 would mean btc would have a marketcap like the US $

4847  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 'Journalists are being slaughtered' – Mexico's problem with press freedom on: August 06, 2015, 09:57:32 AM
rubén Espinosa’s coffin was carried to the graveside under a blistering Mexico City sun, accompanied by a round of applause from his friends and colleagues – and the howling of his beloved cocker spaniel, Cosmo.

As the body of the murdered photographer was carefully lowered into the ground, weeping mourners clutched each other for support – and grappled with the realisation that they could be next.

Espinosa, 31, was found dead in a Mexico City apartment on Friday, alongside four women. All had been beaten, tortured, then shot in the head. The killings came just two months after Espinosa had fled the gulf coast state of Veracruz following death threats over his work.

Journalists and press freedom groups have expressed growing anger at Mexican authorities’ failure to tackle escalating violence against reporters and activists who dare to speak out against political corruption and organised crime.

Espinosa was the 13th journalist working in Veracruz to be killed since Governor Javier Duarte from the ruling Institutional Revolutionary party (PRI) came to power in 2011. According to the press freedom organisation Article 19, the state is now the most dangerous place to be a journalist in Latin America.

4850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone still believing in ripple ? and why ? on: August 06, 2015, 06:23:26 AM

Ripple has 100 employees in an office in San Francisco.

It's like Meraki selling to out to Cisco for $1.2 billion in 2012 to capitalize on smartphones...
Some bank will eventually pay a ridiculously big number for Ripple...
But this will be divided up among the Prinipals and Venture Guys (not some shmuck buying XRP on Cryptsy)...
There is no legal contract that I know of that entitles the "network token" XRP to anything.

https://gigaom.com/2012/11/18/cisco-buys-meraki-for-1-2-billion-in-cash-here-is-why/

No, but if the tech were sold and utilized by banks or whomever and ultimately used by large amounts of people then demand for XRP would increase. Same idea as why 1 Bitcoin necessarily will be worth tens of thousands if we see wide adoption of the Bitcoin network. Or why is it different?

No thats the fun stuff they dont need the xrp tokens to work.
So prolly in the case if banks buy ripple they will just create a new token.
There is no reason after buying a company to give out free money to unknown people or?

Ok, I suppose that could be true.

From what I understand XRP is the currency that has no counter party risk on the system, so they need XRP or a similarly functioning system token. If at the point when Ripple is sold to a bank, the XRP currency has value, then wouldn't it be detrimental to their reputation if they simply ditched it and created a new token? They'd essentially be wiping out the value of anyone holding it and that wouldn't really be giving a good first impression.

i guess this is a important point, it will probaly depend on distribution and worth at that time.

4855  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: August 06, 2015, 04:56:14 AM

4856  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are GMO Foods Safe? What Are The Pros and Cons? on: August 06, 2015, 04:24:16 AM
Corps will not consider anything you guys are saying (even though im 100% agreeing), why? because it will cut profits. Simple, 1-2-3

Indeed. The truth is gmos are way superior in effiency.
Gm crops for example can grow during winter and are immune against pests and illnesses.

The problem is only that we dont know for sure if it is healthy or not.

Most scientist also say there is no way to not use gmo for the future, because we just need to produce more food for the increasing world population.

As far as I know there are no factual basis for these claims. Care to support these arguments with evidence?
I have never heard of these supposed GMO winter crops, but I know for a fact that the supposedly immune BT products lead directly to resistance to pesticides and create pests that are almost completely uncontrollable even by standard methods using insecticide, so this is far from a fact.

As far as GMOs being required in order to meet food demand, this is also another talking point they like to claim that has no basis in reality. I will also give you two reasons why this is patently false. Number one, GMO seeds are EXPENSIVE, more expensive than natural seeds, meaning the worlds poor can't afford them to begin with.

Number 2, most of their GMO seeds are what are known as "Terminator" seeds, where they are completely sterile and can not be used to replant because they are designed so that farmers have to buy seed stock from them EVERY YEAR. This is again another factor that increases dependance on Monsanto and raises the cost of growing food.

@wintercrops
I read about winter oilseed rape (wtf name in german it is called raps) which they try to modify to get high(er) immunity against pest and herbizide and more yields.

There sadly already exist an example of what you are talking about:
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0025736

Imho with more research this should be solved somewhen in the future.

@food for the world

I think the main problem is how the Patents work atleast i know that for Monsanto.
http://www.monsanto.com/newsviews/pages/why-does-monsanto-sue-farmers-who-save-seeds.aspx

Here is their official statement.
It is just about money. They could give it to the 3rd world farmers for free if they wanted too.

*edit
I checked terminator seeds, good lord they seem not to be commercial available yet?
If these genes go rampage in the wild then we really will destroy our world.
4857  Other / Meta / Re: SebastianJu getting seduced by trust farmers - and he's loving it! on: August 05, 2015, 07:50:07 PM
Well I just discredited the evidence that you presented that the OP is dabs, so why don't you post whatever additional evidence you have of this?

Not that it matters anyway because PistolPete is not breaking any rules, and I don't think anyone (reputable at least) is going to think what Pete does is in any way unethical or against what is accepted throughout the community. I am fairly certain that Pete is using that account because he does not want his "main" account to be associated with this kind of criticism.

I will stay on my own opinion because PistolPete's wallet is linked to dabs's thread and I have nothing against number of his accounts ,only against his sent feedbacks.

He stated that Sebastian is tricked by trust farmers pointing at ME , but he DOESN't have any proof. My above post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1142193.msg12049209#msg12049209 shows that he is wrong and i'm the new owner of this account so you guys have no reason to judge Sebastian and me.

i doubt it is about judging you guys personally - atleast for me - it is more about finding a general consensus in the community.
it is fact that default trust is special and thus people on it should behave according to a higher standard
4858  Other / Politics & Society / Re: State Duma chief suggests trying US for WWII nuke attacks on: August 05, 2015, 07:00:35 PM
Using nuclear bombs was a necessary evil because it saved a likely net amount of lives as what would have had to have happened if the US had to invade Japan instead of them surrendering

The last statement is a US state-approved lie, constructed after the fact to justify bombing. The reality was that the Soviet Army almost completely broke the Japanese resistance, and US had to prevent Japan falling/surrendering to the Soviets at any cost.

Japan had acquired jet engine technology from Germany.  They had several engines in various stages of construction when they abruptly surrendered.  If we had not bombed them into surrendering when we did, we would have soon lost that capability, because our bombers were all slow prop-driven planes that couldn't have survived a jet fighter defense.

But why is it less moral to kill someone with a nuclear weapon than to kill them with fire bombs?  Almost no one ever mentions that the US bombed Tokyo and other cities, even though more were killed in Tokyo than either of the nuked cities.

The Japan of the '30s and '40s was a vicious thug nation--much different than the civilized nation of today.  One book that tries hard to be fair but reveals the thuggery anyway is Ghost Soldiers.  All war is bad and should be avoided if reasonably possible, but sometimes it's not possible.

japan had no chance to win the war and no ressources to prolong a fight.
also russia was preparing to declare war to japan.

to be honest they coulda have just waited on mainland asia and watch the japs burning their last oil.

my opinion is that it was just about the message ; directed at moscow and the world to show who the new superpower is.

By that time, Russia (USSR) not only was preparing to declare war (as per Yalta agreement between Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt). It was in the state of war with Japan and a landing of Soviet troops was already in the works.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_the_Kuril_Islands

You are right about the directed threat at Moscow - the bombings were to show who's the boss.

https://nsarchive.wordpress.com/2011/11/08/u-s-war-plans-would-kill-an-estimated-108-million-soviets-104-million-chinese-and-2-3-million-poles-more-evidence-on-siop-62-and-the-origins-of-overkill/

russia had a neutrality treaty with japan from 1943.
which they then officially cancled with the declaration of war on 8/9 august 1945.

although of course we know today it was planned beforehand and russia started to move troops much earlier to east asia ( because of the yalta summit like you said)

the atomic bombs were dropped on 6 and 9 august.
the short timeframe between the drops should also give a hint about the true purpose.

Love the optimism in the OP. Can't help but feel it's way off though. I'm a HODLER, I have a half decent stash. I'll be a very happy man if we reach a USD value of 10,000 per bitcoin. I feel that's an achievable goal within the next 10-15 years.

I don't want to set myself up for humiliation & extreme disappointment by expecting 1 million USD bitcoins or something ridiculous. So yeah 10,000 USD bitcoins = very happy LFC_Bitcoin.

My feelings tell me that if we reach 10k then 50 k is not far away.
And if we reach 50k then 250k is just a small jump Grin
