Hi guys!

We have three open spots.
4842  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Polkasocial-AI generated founder photo+fake ratings on Google Play on: March 10, 2021, 10:00:56 AM
I have asked them to come to a live call with me, and until they do I have locked the thread. Impersonation is illegal and shouldn't be defended in any case. If they want to remain annon they shouldn't have used any avatars.
Exactly. As I said before, it's perfectly legit to decide staying anonymous for whatever reason (even though I would personally never invest in such projects that asks money from people while not willing to reveal their identity),  but you can't have it both ways, and that's something that many try to do. And what's even funny, they like to use Satoshi as an example.

They all know that if they appear to having their real names and photos, people will be more inclined to invest and that's why having AI generated photos is dishonest as I'm sure that everyone thought that's their founder real photo.

By the way, any answer from Polkasocial team yet? To be frank, I don't think that an answer will be positive because if   they haven't answered by now as it's in the best interest of a legit project to clear any doubt as soon as possible.

Regarding the Polkasocial app, just yesterday it had more than 300 reviews that all gave max rating, and now suddenly all those fake ratings disappeared, meaning Google probably noticed strange behavior ( only 500 downloads and 300 reviews) and removed those. Just another proof that there is something fishy going on with Polkasocial and that it should be avoided.
4843  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Low quality topics on: March 10, 2021, 07:08:23 AM
I wish that you listened to some of the advices that were shared in this thread because you may have resisted the urge to make two low quality generic topics after you started this one.

Pro tip:don't abandon the topic once you started it as that's what you are doing. Out of your seven posts, six were new topics. So, if you create a new topic and you don't have anything to add on that matter later on, you shouldn't have even started it. Even if you are just asking for an advice.
4844  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bintex Team Refused Paying Hunters Rewards And Service Fees on: March 09, 2021, 05:15:13 PM
I think they misspelt the word "Beware" as Beawar reading from their sentence, that is no name of a person.
Of course that is not a person lol. They said in that tweet "provide your details here: @akashethu" meaning they want bounty hunters to contact person with "@akashethu" Telegram username that I guess is their team member and provide  bounty details to him. So I asked if any bounty hunters contacted him, and what he said.
4845  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bintex Team Refused Paying Hunters Rewards And Service Fees on: March 09, 2021, 04:54:37 PM
Could it be that Bintex organized this swap with the sole purpose of screwing up bounty hunters, or that swap was announced prior to start of bounty campaign?
OP created a scam accusation thread and went on exiled, these are simple questions he needs to answer, how can we tell who the scammer is? besides the Bintex in question sounded so sure they have given OP the required tokens as agreed
I don't think that OP denies getting the tokens, he even shared address where those 333,333  escrowed BNTX were sent. Thing is, those are old tokens and are completely worthless now, and problems started with the swapping of those previously shared bounty tokens and OP claims that Bintex won't swap those tokens and instead they will scam bounty hunters. That's the whole deal here.

Another problem, as I pointed out in my previous post is the swap ratio, as total supply of BNTX was reduced for 99%, meaning even if they distribute those tokens, bounty hunters will most likely get peanuts in the end.

For some reason they decided to remove that tweet. Any of the bounty hunters managed to contact that person they mentioned?

4846  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Polkasocial-AI generated founder photo+fake ratings on Google Play on: March 09, 2021, 02:26:02 PM
To be honest, I am having trouble sometimes in determining whether the picture either computer-generated or not. But when you observe their facial features, usually, those computer-generated images have blurred backgrounds and some of their features (i.e. eyes, nose, teeth, ears, and hair) are not proportional to each other. In this case, you can clearly see the disparity on the eyes, eyebrows, and nose.
Yeah, sometimes it ain't easy at all to spot them, if job is done properly. Worst of all, those generated images are getting better and better so soon we won't be able to spot the difference. If it wasn't for reverse image search it would be kinda hard to prove "Spase Roth" is a generated image. I have a strong feeling that rest of the team is done the same way (especially "Andrew Kang"). I tried to find it manually on several websites with generated images but to no avail. Have you check other team members, if you can notice anything weird there?

I also agree that people should exercise extreme caution in dealing with this project. There is a high chance that the project may be a scam in the near future.
Yep, I see no reason why legit project would do something like that. @irfan_pak10 asked team for a live chat so I am really curious how will they reply to that request. I like how one newbie defended Polkasocial there with that classic "so what if photos are not real" line.

a lot of projects don’t even use real photos these days and a lot in decentralized projects use avatars.. so cant really call a project a scam without due diligence. its fully functional on desktop and they have a app to.

What he doesn't understand is that it is one thing to say "we want to stay anonymous due xyz reasons" and to make whole fake identity of a team member, and not just some random irrelevant person in the team but of a most important person, founder of the project. He even went  one step further and used that generated photo for his LinkedIn account.

4847  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 09, 2021, 11:46:07 AM
We wish to have a local board now... our single lonely thread is getting overburden with all the spaghetti posts Technology, Alt, News, Politics all in one plate.
Yeah I can imagine that situation there ain't best, with having to use one thread for various topics and conversations but it is what is, as others communities had to go through the same thing in the past before they got their local board.

If I am not mistaken I think that you already have a topic with local board request here in Meta section so first step towards your goal has been done. All you can do now is to remain active as a community, write good posts and hopefully one day you will get your own local board. Since it's been a while from the last local board being added, you will have to be patient as it won't happen overnight.

Hi @irfan_pak10

Do you realize that founder of Polkasocial has an AI generated image on his profile, meaning that there is a big chance that Polkasocial is a scam? Another thing that is fishy are bunch of fake reviews of their app on Google Play. You can find the evidence in the link below

4849  Economy / Scam Accusations / [SCAM ] Polkasocial-AI generated founder photo+fake ratings on Google Play on: March 08, 2021, 09:40:14 PM
What happened: While casually browsing altcoin section, I stumbled upon Polkasocial announcement thread. Since there is a lot of hype going on around everything connected to Polkadot, I've decided to take a look. Upon checking their team members, it turns out that for their founder "Spase Roth" they used AI generated image.

This is Polkasocial founder "Spase Roth" and his Linkedin account. Problem with this image is that it is AI generated, meaning whole identity of their founder is fake. On this website you can play around with that image and adjust it as you like. There you can also get many other AI generated images. Since founder image is fake, chances are that rest of the team images are done the same way.

Another fake about Polkasocial is their app rating on Google Play. App was released few days ago and during that time more than 300 people rated it, all giving it maximum rating. I haven't tried the app, but I generally don't trust any that has that kind of score and is available for only a few days.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.polkasocial.app&showAllReviews=true

In the end, what to expect from a project that used a generated image for one of their team members and then ask people to invest their hard earned money other than to be a scam. Add on that all those fake reviews on Google Play and you get something that is best to avoid.
4850  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: March 08, 2021, 04:07:50 PM
Budimo realni, oni i turci najviše spamaju što pokazuje i ovaj najnoviji Rikafip report svih lokalnih foruma, a nikome nije zagarintirana pozicija ni u jednoj kampanji, i CM je do sada uklonio preko 50 članova iz različitih razloga, a možda se sad malo i popravi kvalitet postova  Wink
Istina, ta 2 lokalna boarda imaju jako puno spama.

4851  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Have You Ever Used the Lightning Network? on: March 08, 2021, 03:38:21 PM
I do plan to actually try to use it, it is on my bucket list and I honestly feel kinda ashamed that I never really tried to do at least one transaction.
Please post a QR-code with a 100 sat ($0.05, I'm cheap) LN payment request. I'll fund the first 10-ish I'll see (one per user of course). I don't want to turn this into a giveaway thread, but for testing it should be okay. If your request is valid for 24 hours I should see it on time (if it's only 1 hour I might be asleep).
I'm asking for a QR-code so I can easily pay from mobile without copying codes.
Let's give it a try then so here it is, QR code for 100 satoshis invoice Smiley

edit: Damn that was fast, 100 satoshis already received! Thanks @LoyceV, I really appreciate it. Now I can cross it off the bucket list! Anyone willing to do the same, post QR code with a few satoshis  invoice so I can try to do the same?

4852  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: Have You Ever Used the Lightning Network? on: March 08, 2021, 10:56:06 AM
I remembered one guy over here giving away 100/ 500 Sats for free if you enabled LN on your wallet.
Maybe someone else did the same thing, but the one I remember doing it was @bpovtmg when he created the thread last September in which he was giving 200 Satoshis for free for those who installed  Lightning Network wallet. That was exactly the reason why I downloaded Blue Wallet, but somehow I forgot to ask for those free satoshis in order to test it.

I am sure that will be sorted out with time. The developers have to understand that if LN (and Bitcoin for that matter) is to get some serious traction, it has to become understandable and easy to use for those with 0 experience with that subject.
+1

This is the key, ease of use, and until that is sorted I don't think that use of LN will get any traction. Sooner or later that will happen though, as with everything. But until then, it will be used by those few that are either tech savvy enough, or really interested in all this.
4853  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bintex Team Refused Paying Hunters Rewards And Service Fees on: March 08, 2021, 10:42:26 AM
Additional problem here is that they reduced total supply from 2 billion BNTX to 20 million BNTX, making it 99 % decrease. If you apply that decrease to bounty pool which was at the start of bounty 333,333 BNTX, new bounty pool would be measly 3333 BNTX. If they keep the same ratio of course.

Could it be that Bintex organized this swap with the sole purpose of screwing up bounty hunters, or that swap was announced prior to start of bounty campaign? If yes, that would be something new that I haven't seen before, But can't say I am entirely surprised.

Once again it proves that bounty hunting is a very risky business as more often than not you will end up with nothing.
4854  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: March 08, 2021, 09:14:51 AM
Beginning of a month means only one thing, new monthly overview of the local board activity!

I made these charts thanks to data provided by @DdmrDdmr and his Merit Dashboard which I suggest you check if you wanna more in depth look into specific local board.

Post activity per local board during February 2021

Post activity wise, local boards were slightly less active during February than they were in January, but difference is basically negligible (25788 posts were written, down from 26449). Once again Turkish board has been most active, followed by usual names, Russian and German local boards. Not much difference at the bottom half of the chart as well, with those semi-dead boards being at the bottom, while they are usually not even on the list.

Among communities without local board (that are marked with *), Pakistan proves to be most consistent and active one.

Merit shared per local board during February 2021

While February post activity decreased just a little bit, merit wise the difference between last month and January is much more noticeable (4601 merits shared in February, down from 5225 which is approximately 11% decrease). The only (among more active ones) board that managed to increase merit shared in this period was German, all others had drops, and some like French even significant. Hopefully this month end up being better.

Merit senders/receivers per local board during February 2021

Pretty straightforward chart, as always, with few standard boards being moe active in that regard than others, relative to the amount of merits shared.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for February 2021

Last but not the least, merit/post ratio chart. As you can see, majority of boards had lower ratio during February  than average for 12 months period, which was expected given the reduced amount of merit shared. Standard warning not to take this chart too seriously as data can be off due various factors, even if you look at the longer period of time

The most active members during February 2021 per local board

4855  Economy / Economics / Re: Am I too late to Bitcoin? on: March 08, 2021, 07:17:58 AM
If I remember correctly, people were asking this very same question back when bitcoin was $10k, $20k, and probably at valuations much lower than that before I got into the scene.  So if what's being asked is whether bitcoin is too expensive to buy it now, I'd have to say "NO".
Exactly this. I've keep hearing about this question basically from the moment when I heard about bitcoin for the first u, somewhere in the late 2013/2014 and up until now.

Just a few months ago I was arguing on one Croatian forum where bunch of people claimed that bitcoin is too expensive now (price was $12-$13k at that point) and that people who are thinking about buying bitcoin for the first time should wait for the dip that was "about to happen", while I argued that best time to buy bitcoin for the first time is now, no matter the price, and no matter the amount. Since bitcoin price is at the moment >$50,000 it didn't end up well for the those who thought the same.

Then again, asking yourself that question "am I too late to all this" is perfectly normal. I asked myself the same thing when I came back to the crypto in 2017 but I decided to give it a shot and started buying bitcoin.

What I think the "problem" is that people keep hearing the stories like "if you bought $100 worth of bitcoin now you would have xyz millions of dollars" so unless they can make a fortune with a few hundreds of dollars like those early adopters, they think it's pointless.
4856  Economy / Speculation / Re: If the FBI wallet with 141,000 bitcoins was stolen what would happen? :o on: March 08, 2021, 06:51:45 AM
First of all, I dont think that's plausible to happen for someone to steal all those bitcoins from FBI. I mean, anything is possible, but realistically what are the chances?

But even if that happens, I doubt that would affect bitcoin price massively, or for a longer period of time. I guess that if someone stole those bitcoins, he wouldn't send them to Coinbase or Binance and try to sell them there, but he would sell them OTC. So no, I'm not worried about that scenario at all.
4857  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: List of fake wallets on Google Play, 3 active at the moment! on: March 07, 2021, 09:24:38 PM
What about IOS?
Last time I checked few weeks ago I couldn't find any fake wallet available in Apple store. Generally, it is much harder for scammers to get app there simply because Apple is much more strict and demanding than Google is, so I guess scammers are reluctant to even try. Another thing that might discourage them is the fact that to even submit an app on Apple store for verification you have to pay $100, which is 4x the fee Google has. Add on that the fact that Android is more popular and you get the current situation.

By the way, if you find any fake apps on Apple Store, feel free free to report it here (or anywhere else in this section) and I'll add it to the list.
4858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Seriously? on: March 07, 2021, 08:55:52 PM
Ok, thanks. Adjusting the gas manually has to be supported by the wallet, right?
Exactly. MEW also has that option. In the top right corner click "Settings", then "Transaction Speed" and then you will get an option to set it manually, as seen on the screenshot below. Imho, Metamask is easier, safer and more convenient for everyday use, I suggest that you check that one.

4859  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: List of fake wallets on Google Play, 2 active at the moment! on: March 07, 2021, 08:40:49 PM
Only reason I can think of is that it is a multi-currency wallet, so not just bitcoin but newbies will download it for other altcoins as well. So it's going to be a favorite wallet when you are a beginner (used it when I was just starting, I have to admit, but when I learned about wallets I totally dodge it).
Yeah that makes sense, that scammers target those multicurrency wallets simply because they can reach more people that way, and if they make fake myetherwallet or electrum for example, less people will be interested. One thing that also might make Exodus popular target is the fact that Exodus developers are not so much fussed about fake wallets with their name, at least that was my experience when i contacted them on several occasions.

Then again, since it only costs ~25 USD to upload your application on Google play, no wonder we get all sorts of fake wallets there, including those that are not very popular.

Here is a new one:

Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iwallete.allets
Thanks, I've added it to the list and reported to Google. Hopefully others will do the same.
