4861  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where Bitcoin has been googled the most? on: May 01, 2022, 06:23:13 AM
Google trends has never been an indicator of anything and almost all the conclusions made based on it have been wrong. For example take the search term "bitcoin", you are are only considering it in English not in other languages but make your conclusion globally; whereas people in different languages would be mostly searching it in their own language. For example the following shows how people would search about bitcoin in Farsi:
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%207-d&q=%D8%A8%DB%8C%D8%AA%20%DA%A9%D9%88%DB%8C%D9%86
Or in China the words seem to be "比特币".

Unfortunately Google doesn't give you number of searches but only a percentage wise comparison so you can't even compare the different terms with each other.
4862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Texts/"passwords" as private keys source and transactions on: May 01, 2022, 05:59:30 AM
So what's the point of all this effort that you put into this work? Is it to get lucky and earn some free money if someone was dumb enough to actually hold any coins in any of these keys?
I assure you that you would have earned a lot more money if you had spent your time more constructively.
4863  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin an angel in disguise also reasons to cry on: May 01, 2022, 05:36:31 AM
The final experience you are going to have with bitcoin depends on how you view bitcoin.

If you think of bitcoin as a get rich quick scheme and then buy it emotionally and sell it emotionally, it is obvious that your irrational behavior will leave you with a negative experience in the end. In other words losing money is guaranteed for you whether you find bitcoin when it is worth $1 or $1 million.

But if you think of bitcoin as it was meant to, meaning as a currency, then you soon realize that the price is not the only thing that matters specially the short term fluctuations. Then you start having a more positive experience.
4864  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is/was reason behind the 'double hash'? on: May 01, 2022, 05:29:58 AM
I don't think Satoshi (who made this decision) has ever answered this question, so we have to guess.

What HASH160 seems to prevent is second pre-image attacks. It also is both shorter (compared to SHA256) and provides the at least 128-bits of security that exists everywhere else in Bitcoin.
4865  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [LIST] Wallets supporting Taproot on: May 01, 2022, 04:24:54 AM
I think your list has to stick to popular and reviewed wallets that support Taproot instead of any random low quality ones that add the support. Or at least clarify that your list is not an endorsement of the said wallets. For example I took a quick look at Nunchuk and their repository doesn't look very active after 2 years and the wallet is definitely not popular. I don't think anybody has ever reviewed this.
4866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do someone send bitcoin to those puzzle addresses? on: May 01, 2022, 04:14:54 AM
Depending on the amount that is sent to the puzzle address, it could be to increase the incentive to solve the puzzle. Sometimes there is something you are curious whether the problem can ever be solved if people put some effort into it and we know the effort sometimes costs money and there has to be a reward big enough waiting for them to get enough people working on the solution.

But when the amount is tiny and close to dust, it is as @BlackHatCoiner said they are spam-advertising.
4867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block 733862 before 733863 on: April 30, 2022, 09:12:22 AM
The timestamps also say nothing about the order in which the blocks were mined. Each subsequent block (based on block height) builds on the previous block. It's not possible for a block to be mined earlier but then not broadcast until after other blocks have been found.

but it is possible.. it just depends on WHO gets the first block broadcast too..
EG if a few mining pools collude to share their block solutions to build upon, but agree to not broadcast these to the wider network,

then they can 'jump' forward the blockheight by 2 blocks when they suddenly decide its time to broadcast 2 blocks
Even if the pools do that, they still have to first set the timestamp and them mine one block at a time which means the timestamp of each mined block becomes immutable and is still following the same consensus rules as any other block that is broadcast normally.

You are like a weasel, you run in any discussion and somehow manage to bring up LN regardless of whether or not it is relevant like here. Chivo is a closed-source centralized custodial wallet created and controlled by a government. Whether or not it also uses LN has nothing to do with its shittiness.

I do believe it's one of the worst humanitarian crisis' of recent memory
No my friend, Ukraine is only a humanitarian crisis that your media is allowed to cover. Otherwise it has to go on for 8 more years, 13313 women and children have to die or be maimed, 5.5 million children have to suffer severe starvation, cholera has to spread all over the country due to water crisis, hundreds of thousands of houses, schools, farms, churches and infrastructure have to be destroyed, and last but not least the Ukrainian resistance against the Russian invasion have to be referred to as terrorists for Ukraine to even enter the top 10 worse "humanitarian crisis in recent memory" list.

Until then, Yemen that is still suffering an 8-year invasion by Arab-US coalition holds that title. https://www.unicef.org/emergencies/yemen-crisis
4870  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Let's Prepare Bitcoin World War 3 in 2033 after the Grand Financial Crash in2027 on: April 30, 2022, 05:23:56 AM
Bitcoin is not a solution to all world problems, it is just a tool and it won't stop the warmongers from waging their wars. If you want to prevent the next world war and nuclear Armageddon then you have to start some regime changes to replace those who have waged the most wars over the past 70 years ever since WW2. Because even if we assume what you say is possible and we dump fiat and all use bitcoin, that still doesn't prevent the bloodthirsty warmongers from also using bitcoin!

Elon will Definitely Implement Something to make dogecoin usable on twitter. It might take time, But he will.. Though, i dont know about BTC  Because Elon liikes Dogecoin but he is also holding BTC
I doubt it. What Elon did in cryptospace was either to make a quick and easily large amount of money or he was just having fun. He has no intentions to use a shitcoin like Doge in anything. If you look at his behavior, he first chose bitcoin and tried hyping then FUDing it to cause a pump and dump and he mostly failed since market didn't really react to his tweets even though he did it very well in coordination with the market direction. Then he did it to Doge and successfully cause a big pump and dump.
In comparison, adding Doge to Twitter would be a lot of effort!
4872  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More regulation on crypto developers, altcoins and exchanges on: April 29, 2022, 12:24:38 PM

OK but could you explain to me how can they still receive trading fees equal to 1% of the volume if the trade takes place Peer-to-Peer and there is no middle man (their servers) involved?!
Obviously they also have to know what outputs are being spent and what outputs are being created, this doesn't look so end-to-end encrypted or decentralized to me at least no when their servers are involved.
4873  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More regulation on crypto developers, altcoins and exchanges on: April 29, 2022, 08:27:23 AM
just because bisq offers a way to communicate to other traders without a central server does not mean you are then free of regulation.
Bisq is actually not 100% decentralized, there is still a centralized server that coordinates all the communication and also acts as a middle man in each trade and receives the commissions.
Technically if the government puts some pressure on them, they could technically pull the same shenanigan as Wasabi wallet pulled and start censoring certain transactions.
4874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More regulation on crypto developers, altcoins and exchanges on: April 29, 2022, 06:43:23 AM
I am thinking this will be for altcoins and exchanges and not bitcoin. This will not go beyond cryptocurrency developers, dealers, exchanges and stablecoin providers that are in US but there are several of them there and other countries can follow if this is successfully done.

But I hope this will not affect bitcoin in any way.
This will affect ANYTHING that is centralized or has some traces of centralization. This means it could also affect parts of the bitcoin world. For example a bitcoin mining pool is still centralized and can be regulated (example: MARA pool). Or bitcoin.org website (example: removal of white paper for UK users only).

Obviously other things like stablecoins that are 100% centralized will be 100% affected by this. Same goes with centralized exchanges, centralized payment processors, centralized altcoins like ethereum/bcash/ripple/bnb/all tokens/...

I don't see how they can regulate development though since that is impossible in open source world
4875  Other / Archival / Re: Why has bitcoin adoption failed in El Salvador? on: April 29, 2022, 04:25:02 AM
Nobody cares about centralized wallets.
If that were true then Coinbase, Blockchain.com, all the exchanges, ... and movements like not-your-keys-not-your-coin or even closed source wallets wouldn't have existed!
How many people are keeping their coins in their Coinbase account? How many are storing bitcoin on exchanges?

Why would a leader of a country pretend to understand the benefits of Bitcoin only to go against the very nature of Bitcoin?
There is no doubt that the governments will always want control and Chivo was created for that purpose but at least they were clear from day one that you don't have to use Chivo and can use any other wallet you like. It's not like they mandated that the only legal way to use bitcoin is through their shitty wallet!

Quote
as nobody wants to trust the government with their money anyway.
That would have been true if nobody had any bank account, credit card, etc. So they already are trusting the government with their money Cheesy
4876  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Recovers Amid Bull Trap Warning on: April 29, 2022, 04:03:33 AM
There is a war going on and I'm not talking about Ukraine. A war amongst the market participants, one group is buying because the stock market is dumping (which is what should happen, just like the past decade) but another group which seems to be growing are "weird" people who think after 13 years of not following any market whatsoever, bitcoin has suddenly decided to follow the US stock market for no reason! So they panic sell each time some shitty stock dumps in US!!!

Unfortunately there is also a third group that sees this war and decides to stay away so the volume decreases and lets the price jump up and down like this without deciding on any direction.

The only way to get out of this stage is for one group to run out of money to waste and since the second group is fanatically shorting bitcoin I'm betting it would be them...
4877  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project Idea - Decentralized Twatter on: April 29, 2022, 03:52:06 AM
Yes but there will be hundreds of websites serving the same purpose that twitter does now.  Most users will use a centralized page that they like. If the page starts putting up too many ads or god forbid censors someone they don't like, the user is free to host their own site or use someone else's.
That's the contradiction in your whole proposal. You can't both use a centralized (or multiple) website(s) and claim the project is decentralized. Also you can't not download the whole blockchain if you want decentralization.
You see this is a flaw in blockchain technology, it is not this magical tool that can solve every problem. It works fine for a payment system because of the incentive to run a full node outweighs the problems associated with downloading and verifying the whole chain but it won't work for anything else.
4878  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: The default Wasabi Wallet coordinator will start censoring "illegal" UTXOs on: April 29, 2022, 03:44:40 AM
Seems like Wasabi will die in a few years. It was too good to last forever.
It's still not too late for them to undo the damage to their reputation. They have to first publicly apologize then start moving towards making their application truly decentralized by removing coordinators completely by finding a way for users to connect to each other and mix coins P2P. But that also means giving up on the money they were earning!
4879  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: April 28, 2022, 02:35:42 PM
I live in one of the poorest EU countries (and on top of that in one of the least developed parts of that country) and I haven't felt any food shortages and regarding the rations, it usually happens when people are unreasonable and start piling up more stuff than they realistically need, like they did with toilet paper during that first covid lockdown.
Panic buying is only part of the problem which also doesn't last that long. The main problem is relying on other countries for certain basic needs, namely Ukraine and Russia these days. For example wheat and some basic grains are mostly imported which leads to shortage of basic foods from flour, bread, cooking oil, etc. that are directly affected by the shortage all the way to livestocks that are indirectly affected and leads to dairy product and meat shortages namely beef and poultry.

You suddenly have a food crisis at your hand which is what media and analysts have been saying all over the news for the past month (https://fortune.com/2022/03/30/rationing-europe-global-supply-crunch-natural-gas-russia-foodstuffs-war-ukraine/).

Basically the shortages and the possibility of rationing depends on where you live and how much your country is relying on other countries for basic food stuff and how much they already had in storage before the war broke out.
For example Germany relies a lot more on Russian gas than Spain does so obviously Germany is facing a lot more issues than Spain. It's the same with food; Spain that imports most of its corn and sunflower oil from Ukraine will face a lot more issues than another country that imports less.
4880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fort Worth Becomes First City to Mine Bitcoin on: April 28, 2022, 01:54:15 PM

You are right but censorship is not going to start overnight. All these little moves could some day add up to a much bigger control over the network. We already have Marapool censoring transactions (despite them taking some steps back publicly), then we have this news. There are also other centralized miners in other jurisdictions, some of them controlled by different governments.

The incentive structure works, and before any bad actor can set their attack, they will discover that it will be more profitable by mining honestly.
For governments the incentive is not going to be money, it will be power and control.
