4881  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: buying 4 Teraminers for $7500 need advise on: May 07, 2014, 02:45:17 PM
I'm guessing your other deal for 4 TH/s at $9500 fell through.
4882  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin is not p2p on: May 07, 2014, 01:28:36 PM
I kinda see OP's point.  Anytime you connect to bobo's network you get 1 share, thus the "communist view"

Everyone's on equal ground.  Not one person is a multi millionaire, and not one person has Bitcoin dust.

The spending problem is the flaw in Bobo's peer to peer model.  If I spend all my 1 shares to buy a cheeseburger, disconnect from Bobo network, eat purchased with Bobo money cheeseburger, take a shit, come back to my computer and reconnect to the Bobo peer to peer network, I get another free 1 share of Bobo money.  Now I can buy a 1 share milkshake to settle my stomach.   Tongue

Bobo is confusing politics with technology.  P2P networks don't have equal processing power, hardware, connection speeds, or software at the end of each node.  Only common denominator is the Bitcoin protocol and the Blockchain, which is the same for all.

Bitcoin wasn't made to be equilateral for all people using it.  Just like any currency, some people have more gold or silver or fiat than others.  Just because the technology is meant to be accessible to everyone around the world, doesn't mean we all get an equal slice of the pie.
4883  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mine, or Buy? on: May 07, 2014, 12:54:32 PM
If you have free electricity, you already have a big incentive to try out mining to see if it's for you. Contrary to what most will say, you will eventually get back your investment but it takes time. Mining isn't for instant gratification. For me, I mine because I like seeing my btcs accumulating day by day. I'd vow that I wouldn't pay fiat to get btcs, but I relented when it hit the sub-400 level, that's just too good to pass. But after I bought, I'm left with a sense of 'ok, what now'. Having had both experiences, I decided I prefer mining than buying. Plus, mining takes out the agonizing wait for price to rise, and the despair when price falls. IMO, mining now is better than buying, because you'll never see the volatility of last year again because Bitcoin is stabilizing. Those who buy now thinking in a month's time prices will double, they're sitting on empty hopes, and if you're weak hand you won't last and you'll lose out and start criticising Bitcoin, like one forumer here who gave up because she bought high and sold low.

Not if you buy miners with BTC.  Only if you buy miners with Fiat, is the mining strategy better.

If you buy miners with BTC at this "low price" you're throwing Bitcoins away that you'll never mine back.
4884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 07, 2014, 12:49:54 PM
So I left it be overnight, now I cannot log into the interface again.  Cry

I get the the page to enter the password and then I either time out or whatnot, connection is lost.

I keep trying and trying only to get the same message or get to the black screen then when I enter the password, boom, connection lost.

I've tried different ethernet cables.

Thing is, I think my computer has too many internet related settings so it could be conflicting somewhere.

I also don't have an IE browser which I think many were saying to use that one...  I just don't like it, too slow, too bulky.

The miner seems to be mining already, the fan is running fast/er and a decent amount of heat is coming out the end of it.

@Dogie - I'm not sending anything back, I ordered mine from the manufacturer directly.  If BitMain can't offer a working product out of the box and adequate level of service I will just write it off as a loss and throw it in the garbage and deal with another manufacturer who values my business.  Tis the second time I get screwed by BitMain in less than a month so I'm already not too happy with them.  I've more conviction to make it work, it's one thing with me, if something don't work, I'll keep hacking until it works.

I'll download IE then if that don't work I'll try using another, less busy computer to do set ups.

Also the lights on my laptop at the Ethernet card, the green is on but the orange flickers, which leads me to believe it's something with my computer and not the miner.  The one green light on the miner is always flashing...

Surely someone has had this issue before.  I don't think it's a miner issue as it is a local computer issue.

Could you post an ipconfig /all of your laptop?
4885  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 4 is open for sale on: May 07, 2014, 03:04:03 AM
price is still to high  Huh

+1

S1s are now about $200 a pop. For those who are math challenged, that's $1200/TH unpowered or $1560/TH stock with ATX golds. Shocked

This be the S2 thread.

...and the price is still too high

Edgar today S1 price $224.12  for one AntMiner S1 is by far the best priced miner in the market.

Problem is not hardware price my opinion is BTC is to low now.

Just for a comparison.......Microcenters, an electronics retailer announced today they are selling mining equipment. Right now they have Gridseeds and Antminer S1. They have the S1 priced at $400.00, (gulp).....

Holy crap, would you look at that:

Bobsag3 must be happy about that.   Smiley

This is great to see the product taking shape. Overdue but better late than never as the phrase goes.

Now if BA dig deep and properly compensate purchasers for their delay, this story may yet have a happy ending.

 Roll Eyes

Indeed, it is great to see a manufacturer doing it's best to come through, to try to make up somewhat for it's faux pas's.

They goofed on the initiial date.  We'll never know if they'll ever admit it, but it looks like they are scrambling, and are trying to make up for it with it's compensation packages.

They do seem to be posting weekly updates and are trying to be as transparent as possible.

Incompetent, maybe.  Disorganized, possibly.  At least it looks like they're giving a shit about it's customers.
4887  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PBmining - legit? on: May 07, 2014, 12:11:05 AM
And here is a little update again:

I will be closing on this week north of 6 BTC mined with http://pbmining.com?ref=iflash11 (yup, there is a ref code here) which means that I am less than 3 BTC away from profit. You can see my stats on their page (Username iflash).

So far, so good. I am still not convinced that they are a Ponzi but I know that a Ponzi runs as long as people buy in it.

On the other hand: What will all the nay-sayers say when - let's say a year from now - the thing is still up and running with thousands of people making money mining (assuming BTC itself is still around at a price higher than the one now)?

Guess, we can only tell a year from now. Or two. Or five. :-)

Happy mining,

iFlash

What will you do when your hash becomes unprofitable?  Will you have to re-invest and buy more?

Hypothetical, what if Bitcoin goes to $1, how will you get out of your 5 year contract?

If you re-invest again, and they just up and disappear, what do you do?
4888  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 07, 2014, 12:04:18 AM
Good job!  Glad to see you were able to figure it out.   Cool

The screenshot of Settings, is that your network card?

Could you post an Ipconfig /all to see all your network adapters on your PC?
4891  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 06, 2014, 10:14:05 PM
Do you have the Ant connected to the lan port of this modem directly by ethernet cable, or are you trying to configure the Ant wirelessly?

No, I am connected to the AntMiner via ethernet cable, it's in no way shape or form connected to any type of internet source yet.  My PC is connected to the miner and I use one a wireless connection to keep up to this thread and disable it to try things on the miner.  I've not yet had the miner online whatsoever yet, can't open the interface so I stopped there until I could figure things out.

Okay, open a command prompt on your PC, and type in ipconfig and hit enter.  Post your ipconfig here so we can determine what ip to set the Ant with.

Once you've posted your ipconfig here, download ip scanner to detect the Ant's current ip:

http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/

Once we get the Ant's ip, we can determine whether we have to change your PC network settings to configure the Ant's settings.

Today we have confirmed 85Ghash per chip on the the 140A board.
We have scheduled to assemble the 200A board tomorrow at the SMT factory.

So are we getting our goal of 100Ghash for the X-1?

Hopefully 120 GH/s overclocked!  Need that extra BTC dust.   Wink

Hey, that's the spirit!   Grin

Doesn't always have to be about the profit or throwing thousands, sometimes millions to attempt to ROI.

Sometimes, it's for hobbying.  Like frequenting massage parlors or buying crack from your landlord.   Tongue

Must be a really thin volume coin, you're trying to mine.  Is it SHA-256 or one of the Scrypts?

4896  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Networking Nightmare & Login Failures - AntMiner S1 on: May 06, 2014, 08:52:39 PM
Don't forget to set the broadcast address to 192.168.1.255 and set the DNS to 8.8.8.8

Ping from a computer on the same network the Ant address 192.168.1.25, then if you get replies, open a browser to that same address to configure.

We are pleased to confirm that Black Arrow Minion works.

We are now testing speed and power consumption.

Was there a chance that the minions couldn't work  Angry nothing is 100% but really, is this surprising to you guys?

LOL I don't think anyone was expecting them to say "Uh, we ran some tests, and the chips don't work.  Back to the drawing board"

Then again... Tongue

I can't wait to get my desk ornaments.  They'll be the talk of the office.    Smiley
Mining in the office eh? Im not too sure they will appreciate the power consumption and many offices have lots of locked down networks, do you even know if its possible at your office?

Yup.  Sold off my Ant team and down to the solo Ant.  It'll be just him and his new twin X-1 buddies.   Grin

4899  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to work with different wallets? on: May 06, 2014, 08:23:30 PM
Honestly, the "easiest" way is probably an online wallet service such as blockchain.info

That way they can use it like they might use PayPal, Facebook, or any other website where they might have their own accounts.

Of course, don't use it for large amounts, pocket money only. And teach them of that fact Wink

Second this notion, for smaller amounts.

Easiest way to access the same wallet across 2 different computers.

Sorry Mom, would you settle for little Doge's?   Cheesy
