Here is a thought for you guys. If miners mined Bitcoins, then every Bitcoin would have a unique identification number - true or false?
With my newbie knowledge I think that is false. Only the mined blocks and the transactions on the blockchain have there own unique identification numbers and not each single bitcoin inside the block. Your statement is true, and that is why I prefaced my sentence with the word 'if' . My point was that individual Bitcoins are not mined, but if they were, then they would need individual identifiers. Banknotes are an example of this, although they are printed rather than mined.

I was about to give you a merit for that post, but it looks as if you have taken a couple of statements from the Bitcoin WiKi. If you had quoted the source, then I would probably have given you the merit.

Well, not all members.
I agree that members with special interests don't need to view all boards. This is especially true of the bounty spammers/scammers. I can see the advantages for them if they visit the scammers and reputation boards, but, other than those, it would be better if they stayed in the TwitBook underworld here. They are a real nuisance on the beginners, discussion and meta boards.

I'm not sure what benefits there are with being a legendary
There might be no such benefits, but ranking to Legendary with Merit System will Somehow represent that you have been rewarded Sir Jet, I would like to be the person to give you your 1000th merit if ever that you already have 999. I will be keeping an eye to your Merit points starting now. Please don't ask me why. ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Well thanks for the offer. Please make sure it's a decent post, and not one where I'm having a strop. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I'm a bit tetchy this morning, as they have turned the power off in the supermarket cafe I'm in at the moment. That means I'm on battery power for the netbook, and I can't run my node,or do some of the website updating I had planned. I could I suppose, but the screen is a bit small, so it is easier to work on the notebook. I'm not sure why Joel isn't a Legendary, it looks as if he should have been promoted. What happened to TMAN, wasn't he a hero a month or two ago, and he should be Legendary now?

I got legendary rank at around 1000 activity. It differs from user to user, don't know why only legendary accounts have that floating activity rate.
I wonder if it is random, or under admin control. I noticed that a couple of members became legendaries at around 800 activity, and this was just before the merit system was introduced. I think they probably deserved the uprank, but it does make one wonder if there is a bit of admin control over the process. Human nature is strange, I didn't really bother about becoming a legendary, but now that I can see the door in front of me ( it's still closed though ), I've started to watch the counts. I'm not sure what benefits there are with being a legendary, other than the oxidation of my last coin. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Thanks for copying my idea.
Testnet is certainly useful for some experimentation, but the reason I am starting my Onkly project is to take it a bit further, and to include user interaction, and some other features associated with mining and the running of archive and pruned nodes. Using an on-line wallet is not really teaching members about the mechanics of Bitcoin, or the creation of new coins.

I'm a bit sad today, yesterday I deleted the Italian board in the Fit to Talk English project. A quality translated post was guaranteed to earn at least 5 merits, if it was of sufficient quality to be posted in Ivory Tower. The board didn't have a single post or expression of interest, and this is despite the fact that Italian language speakers have been complaining about the shortage of merits for them.
As I've posted many times, there is no shortage of merits, and don't forget that every two merits awarded creates another merit for the community to award. The fact that they are not being awarded recklessly shows that the community is taking a responsible attitude towards the merit system.

I think the beginners forum could become important as the government pseudo-cryptos roll out. But they won't give the forum credibility if the board is full of scams and ponzis. Keep it focused on Bitcoin and legitimate alts, and we can start new members with a good responsible attitude to the replacements for the dying fiat systems.
I wondered if we should have an intro board. I think Theymos stated that it would become a spam fest, and he discouraged it. However, there are so many spam mega threads, that keeping some of them on an intro board could help the other boards. The early posts in those threads could provide an impression of new members as well. I think some new members struggle to find somewhere to make their first posts, and an intro board would help them to find their feet. It would be interesting to see how the bots and the alts handled it as well.

That is if he gets the required number of merits for the new rank, his activity might be due for the new rank in next 4 weeks or less just like you said but he also needs the merit to move on to the legendary rank.
Please don't play in the big boys' threads until you have learnt to read. Another annoyance to ignore.

They make Bitcoin Talk look pathetic, and they must be killing it's reputation. Now is the time when we should be building the forum reputtion in preparation for the new digital currencies that the governments will be introducing. Bitcoin Talk's policy of giving priority to the TwitBook scammers and spammers isn't going to give it any credibility. How difficult is it for mods to just move them into the BT underworld?

To those who think the frog pond is useless, why aren't you using serious discussion and ivery tower? It's quite a struggle to get reponses there, although it is improving a bit. It would be even better if juniors couldn't start threads in serious discussion.

You need to do your own research, and form your own opinions. Most people are unbelievably stupid, and just believe the pap that they are fed by established news sources. I find it incomprehensible that nearly 50% of the UK voted to stay in the EU, when it is obvious that the country has been in constant decline since joining, and has seen the theft of national assets and pension funds. The pound now is at 30% of its value when we joined. If people are that stupid, what chance have they got of understanding Bitcoin. They probably believe that their fiat bank deposits are real money, and more secure than Bitcoin.

I think there is still some more downward movement to come. I'm holding off my purchases for a bit longer. It's obvious that the price is being manipulated, and this is probably due to government and banking interests wanting to discredit the current crypto coins. I believe that Bitcoin is a great store of wealth, and the gains will be massive if you are prepared to hold for five years or so. Silver is another store of wealth that is being manipulated. The price is being pushed down below economic mining levels by the manipulation of the futures markets. At the same time, the bankers are buying up physical silver at ridiculously low prices.
We won't be able to take a view on Bitcoin until the new government 'crypto' currencies start to appear, and we can see if they are going to try to discredit Bitcoin by amplifying price movements. There will be some great trading opportunities over the next year or so, but never forget that any gain you make has to come from somebody else's loss.

You would be better off asking this in the TwitBook underworld here.

I'm definitely going to do this, and I'm putting together the website at the moment.
It won't be an airdrop, ICO or bounty programme, it will just be somewhere to learn, and experiment with running a node, and mining Bitcoin. There will be no payment expected for participation, and hopefully, I will be able to run a supporting discussion thread.

I hope this is never allowed. It is extremely annoying if you are looking at the boards on a mobile, or in a public place.

I've stated several times that I believe that merits should not be awarded for posts in the ANN sections, In fact I believe that all TwitBook and bounty posting should not be awarded with any merit, and should not be counted for activity.

Needs adoption. Plus if it's just a "play" coin the initive wont be there.
I think that is quite a sad comment, and it shows how Bitcoin Talk has changed. It used to be an information exchange, and a good site for social interaction. It seems to have become a venue for bottom feeders trying to scratch a few coins for not much effort ( if any).

I thought about using the test net. As you may have guessed, part of my reson for starting this project is to discover the problemsinvolved with starting a new coin, and I'm not sure that would be esy to do with the test net. I'm also interested in the options available for transferring coins.
I suppose I am really starting a new test net from a genesis block.
