4901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POS VS POW effect on valuation of bitcoin on: July 03, 2022, 07:22:02 PM
Proof of Stake is in my opinion an unfair mechanism where the Rich are in advantage over the poor, which is precisely one of the reasons I am currently in progress of removing Fiat out of my life.
Putting the security of the network and the centralization aside when it comes to POS, how are the rich not in a favorable position over the poor in Bitcoin as well? In mining, for example. Do I have a chance to mine a block with my poor man's computer when I am competing against mining farms that have tens and hundreds of thousands of ASICS? Unlikely. So what do I need to improve my chances? Expensive hardware that costs money. Me being the poor bastard I am from a third world country can't afford it. That's how those with more resources will always dominate the ones that have not much to spend.
4902  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 03, 2022, 06:46:32 PM
My understanding is, he is referring to the post link that is hyperlinked to the text '20 -50 times in a 12-hour period', because it states there that only 25 times/day can be claimed by those at iron1 and iron2 levels.
That's not what it says. It says that you can claim a minimum of 25 coins for the lowest rank and that is still accurate. I am looking at the information on Bitsler as I am writing this post. I can claim 25 coins up to 20 times in the next 12 hours. Maybe if I registered a new account using his referral link, that number would be 50 claims per day. Since I am not going to break the rules by posting referral links, nothing changes.

I just visited Bitsler again today and it has already changed, 50 claims per day are also now for the mentioned levels and at the starting or no level remains 20 claims/day.
Nothing has changed on my end. It's still 20 claims.
4903  Other / Meta / Re: Enforce “grammarly ” like score minimum to post.. on: July 03, 2022, 09:29:49 AM
Doesn't unhandled means that mods have not seen it yet and it will be handled shortly. But yeah i have these 5 unhandled for a long time now  Huh
It does at the moment when you make the report. As soon as you report a post to the mods, it's status is unhandled. But if the post remains as unhandled for days, weeks, and several months, the admins have seen it but don't agree with your report to delete the post. Consider your long standing unhandled reports as being partially bad. If they were good, the mods would have acted on them.
4904  Other / Meta / Re: Enforce “grammarly ” like score minimum to post.. on: July 03, 2022, 08:48:37 AM
Some kind of spell check like tool with a score..
No.

If your writing doesn’t score a 70% or whatever, it won’t let you post..
No

Could also help users LEARN English better/faster by forcing them to put effort into correcting their writing.
I don't think the approach should be to force people to do something the way I or we like it. I put a lot of effort into my posting. I am concerned about the grammar and spell-check everything. But if the person next to me doesn't want to do that or even wants to sound like an illiterate idiot, that's their call.

Would put a good dent in rapid posting shitposters too.. Almost even like a bot filter..
It would stop the average shitposter, but then again, the admins can stop them as well and not give them 100 attempts to better themselves. However, the forum doesn't want to be that restrictive.

Imagine if all the spam on this forum suddenly had to meet a grammar score standard, lmao..
It could possibly be revolutionary in posting quality improvement..
It might also prevent legit users who are terrible in English from posting and I wouldn't want that. I don't think we should measure someone's knowledge and interest in Bitcoin with how well they can write in English.
4905  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have an undo button for comment and post editor? on: July 03, 2022, 08:32:29 AM
If you are comfortable with installing an app on your smartphone to get this feature, there is a solution to the lack of a proper redo button.
The app is called Inputting Plus: Ctrl + Z/F/C/V.
This guide explains how the app works and mentions ways to undo deleted text with the Gboard as well.

Do your own research and decide for yourself if the app is something you want to install on your phone!
4906  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: July 03, 2022, 07:57:09 AM
Jbg

The campaign is over. The team might reconsider relaunching the campaign with a trusted forum member in the future. Thanks RIOBET and the participants.
4907  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 03, 2022, 07:46:57 AM
A couple of new casinos have been added to the OP.
Those are Maverick Games, Riobet, and StarBets.

KYC: NO, but if you want to claim bonus KYC is required
Maverick Games actually does require KYC. I couldn't even see the data I needed for the table without talking to the support. They told me the correct numbers. It might be possible that you went through KYC with btb88 and now you don't have to do it a second time with Maverick Games.

@2020GD
I sent you a PM a few days ago and asked about the withdrawal fees and withdrawal amounts. I am sure you have seen it since you have been actively posting after that. Are you planning to reply to it sometime in the near future maybe?
4909  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 03, 2022, 07:32:35 AM
That unfortunately would not stop a bad actor from uploading a fake version to the play store, any BBT user unaware of the official link/thread could potentially fall for the scam.
No, it wouldn't. I am sorry if I sound like a prick, but if Bitcointalk members get tricked into downloading a fake app via the Play Store, a YouTube video, or social media without checking how and where to get the official one right here on the forum, they only have themselves to blame. Software should only be downloaded from official sources. That is true for crypto wallets as much as anything else. The official source for a Bitcointalk mobile app should be Bitcointalk.
4910  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: LTC CASINO Resolved. on: July 03, 2022, 06:59:39 AM
I am mentioning them here just in case some have mention notifications activated.

Peeple who supported
Type 3 flag:
...Pmalek
I can see that bambolina still supports one of the flags against LTC Casino. He removed support for one, maybe he forgot to do it for the other. I will remove my support for the flag when OP has been paid in full. I have notifications enabled and as soon as someone mentions my name or quotes one of my posts, I will check to see what is going on.
4911  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hacking a Samsung S3 to recover a Bitcoin wallet on: July 03, 2022, 06:51:46 AM
How about Don't use gestures as lock codes in the first place?
Luckily, that lack of security can be exploited for good as we can see from this particular example. If the swipe pattern security was impossible to break, the recovery would have never worked. Too bad that the final sum was such an insignificant one though.

What I find unbelievable is the fact that the owner totally forgot that he sent his coins to BitBlender. And why did he need to do that in the first place? He obviously knew nothing about Bitcoin even when he purchased it. Too bad.
4912  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 02, 2022, 04:34:51 PM
If one day we do get an official phone app, it doesn't need to be hosted on Play Store at all. I think the requirements are different for iPhone apps, but since I don't have one, I can't really say. The app should only be downloadable from this forum and the app's announcement thread.

I have no need for it and wouldn't use one even if it was available. I browse the forum exclusively via desktop devices. I have posted on the forum with my phone maybe 5 times in all these years. But I understand that many people use phones exclusively and it would be a much more pleasant experience if they can have a nicely optimized app for that. A desktop app is nonsense though and a waste of time.
4913  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hacking a Samsung S3 to recover a Bitcoin wallet on: July 02, 2022, 04:27:10 PM
I assume this was only possible (the digging of the gesture keys) because of the Galaxy S3 being old and outdated security-wise, right? It's a 10 year old phone model. I assume modern smartphones are going to be a lot harder to break into.
I have no idea really. But Joe likes to say that everything can be hacked if you give it enough time and resources. The data must be stored somewhere on the chip and is encoded in one way or the other. Either way it can be found.

A friend of a friend is an IT specialist and works for a governmental protection agency. I am not going to say which agency or which country. Anyways, his job is to retrieve data from phones, laptops, and computers from criminals who get their stuff confiscated from the police. One of the nifty gadgets he uses allows you to connect any modern phone and it's capable of retrieving all its data including SMS messages, apps, phone calls, deleted and non-deleted stuff, etc.. Don't ask me how or what, but the things are out there. It's just not available to regular folks or sold in stores. Professional encryption software would surely be a problem depending on what it is, but not that many people use that, especially on mobile phones.
4914  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Hacking a Samsung S3 to recover a Bitcoin wallet on: July 02, 2022, 04:02:14 PM
After the Trezor One video, the hardware hacker Joe Grand posted a 2nd hacking video. This time he was working on a Samsung Galaxy S3 Android phone whose owner had forgotten the swipe pattern to unlock it. He thought he bought the coins in 2013, sent them to a wallet on his phone, and forgot about them for 7 years. The phone was configured to delete all data after 10 unsuccessful swipes. So once he finally gained access to it, the owner eventually gave up so as not to erase his data and wallet.

Joe aimed to disassemble the phone and copy the whole personal storage from the chip to his laptop. From there, he wanted to figure out where the swipe pattern file was located. Joe plugged his cable into a connector and connected it to a debugging piece of hardware. But he couldn't establish a connection due to problems with the cable.

Since that didn’t work, Joe had to take the more difficult route, use a hardwired connection, and solder his own wires to the board. A total of 9 different connections were required. After some difficulties, it eventually worked, and Joe started copying the data from the phone.

After the data was copied to the laptop, Joe started looking for the user partition for the personal data. He was interested in a system file called gesture.key. This file contains the cryptographic hash of the swap platform used on the phone. The hash can’t be converted back, but Joe had a list of all possible gesture combinations. He can run through these combinations to find the correct hash. He found the SHA-1 hash of the swap platform used on the phone.

Joe searched for the correct bites on his list and found only one match corresponding to the 2589 swipe pattern. So he reassembled the phone, powered it on, and the owner tried to unlock it with the 2589 swipe combination. It worked. They then opened the mycelium wallet on the phone and found only 0.003 BTC. A bit later, Joe was able to trace what happened to the owner’s coins. He purchased $400 worth of BTC in 2016, but a big part of it was sent to Bit Blender, which shut down in 2019. All in all, Joe recovered only about $2.000 worth of BTC.

  • Never forget to make multiple physical backups of your recovery phrases so you can gain access to your crypto whenever you need to.
  • Don’t be reckless with your coins, no matter how small the amount is. One day it can amount to something big.
  • Don’t forget passwords, PINS, swipe patterns, and other important details that could cause a loss of money.

4915  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have an undo button for comment and post editor? on: July 02, 2022, 12:28:20 PM
I have to admit that I have made the mistake of selecting more than I intended from a piece of text and deleting it more than once while posting on Bitcointalk. An undo button would come in handy if there wasn't already a solution. But as mentioned earlier, CTRL Z and CTRL Y can help you out in situations like that. Still, I don't think everyone knows about those two shortcuts. This thread will at least teach or remind them about that.
4916  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Feedback from a bitcoin user interview - letter “l” mistaken as numeral 1 on: July 02, 2022, 12:14:41 PM
Why do you ask? If you need a long list of used addresses, then you can get one from Loyce here: List of all Bitcoin addresses ever used - NOW BACK online!
No, no, I don't need a list of used addresses. I am just trying to get my message across that there is no need to write down your addresses physically on paper, which is suggested for recovery phrases.

I encourage sharing own experience by all forum members.
This particular sub-board isn't that frequently visited by newbies and lower-ranked members, so you probably won't get the response you wish for. Beginners & Help would be better suited for something like that. I would be interested in seeing the results of a poll with a question if people write down their Bitcoin addresses by hand and if they find it difficult to distinguish certain letters.
4917  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Feedback from a bitcoin user interview - letter “l” mistaken as numeral 1 on: July 02, 2022, 09:43:15 AM
It would be incredibly unlikely when reading from a screen, since most fonts quite clearly differentiation between lowercase l and the number 1. It would be very possible when reading from something hand written, since many people write these the number 1 simply as a vertical line.
I hope OP finally understands based on everything that is mentioned here that writing down Bitcoin addresses brings no benefits, but can create unnecessary problems.

@o_e_l_e_o do you have a big stash of used Bitcoin addresses somewhere?
What about you @nc50lc? Anyone?

@xml Create a poll and ask the community if they write down addresses by hand and what they think of that! You will see that it doesn't make much sense.
4918  Economy / Gambling / Re: List Of Crypto Casinos with The Best Faucets on: July 02, 2022, 09:31:56 AM
The OP didnt mention how you can monetize BITSLER coins tho.
The space is limited in tables. I can't really go into too much details about what each coin or fun token is used for. It's up to the players who are interested in faucets to research that themselves if they want. You are welcome to explain it if you want.

Plus wuth the reference link, the number of claims for all account is changed to 50 for all accounts. Maybe I'll just suggest an update to the original post.
Are you suggesting I put your referral link in the table and suggest that players sign up through it? I am not willing to do that. Referral links aren't allowed to be spammed in forum posts. They can appear in personal texts and the signature space though.
4919  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: help:RuntimeError('DataError: Forbidden key path') on: July 02, 2022, 09:01:43 AM
I tried to google the error to see what would come up. I managed to find something not related to Electrum directly but a fork for it for an altcoin.
https://githubhot.com/repo/qtumproject/qtum-electrum/issues/115

The user experienced the same type of error and the fix was a simple settings change in something the software calls "Safety Check Level". Electrum obviously doesn't have anything like that, but it's interesting nonetheless that this error pops up after the alleged signing takes place and the the user is trying to broadcast the transaction.
4920  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: I am panicking on: July 02, 2022, 08:24:12 AM
Instead of a hammer, I'd use an angle grinder. But even then it's theoretically still possible to find back some bits. It just became a lot harder.
What about running a big magnet over the hard drive? Wouldn't that irreversibly delete everything on it and even break the whole disk?

Being open-source hardware didn't really make this attack easier, since such a 'brute-force' approach will work with other wallets too, if they have such a flaw in the source code.
Not the hardware part, but the open-source software made the attack easier. If you remember the video, Joe mentions that the seed appeared on the screen at one point, but he didn't pay attention to it because he didn't believe it was right. He was trying to do something else at the time. He then tried to recreate it and have the seed pop up again, but he couldn't. He then started going through the source code and found the part where it explains how the seed and PIN are moved to RAM on power up. Without the open nature of the software code, who knows if he would ever have made that discovery or find it by accident.
