4901  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Good trading strategy for newcommer? on: May 14, 2019, 05:52:37 AM

Archive.
Great, you copy-pasta™ an article from Quora: https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-bitcoin-trading-strategies

On topic: Follow these guys: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion.
You'll learn a lot of trading strategies (and memes) by reading the recent posts; and if you dare, backread the previous pages for historical data.
But there's no definite strategy here, its mostly cognitive and memory based work, you need to process the info you get from the news and bct posts to know "when is when".

Since it's certainly the Bull Run, you can enjoy a less risky trading at small corrections.
4902  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: May 14, 2019, 05:30:16 AM
is there a video guide for noobs? i wish i could search for random privatekeys (i just want to waste my time)
I can't find any video guide (actually I didn't searched). But there's a comprehensive guide in the Beginners and Help board.
Link: [Guide] How to create your customized Bitcoin-Address (vanitygen) – step by step.
It's fool-proof, even your cat can follow it.

Good luck on finding private keys and tell us if you find one, contact me after 9999999999999999999 years Smiley
4903  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: how to change ccminer for support equihash96_5? on: May 13, 2019, 06:04:47 AM
This requires advanced to expert coding knowledge and not a simple "how to" instructions.

To get started, fork ccminer from Github (original: cbuchner1/ccminer|updated fork: tpruvot/ccminer)
Then change the code/commit changes as you please.

Or find a fork that readily supports equihash96_5 from this list: external site.
Take note: I haven't tried all of them aside from tpruvot's fork, use at your own risk.
4904  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: i lose my eth coins after update trezor wallet on: May 13, 2019, 02:35:53 AM
Did you set a passphrase before?
If you did, you need to set exactly the same passphrase to properly restore the wallet.

And please move this this Hardware Wallet childboard  Wink (there's a small move button on the lower-left)
4905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovery Non Spendable BTC on: May 13, 2019, 02:26:20 AM
Use "import" not "sweep" to see the addresses derived from those private keys to verify if those were correct and if each has a balance in a blockexplorer.

My address and and the six purchases associated with it are definitely there. It's just that I don't know how to mate the two. Address and key.
The problem is you cannot derive different p2pkh or "1" addresses from a single private key, it will always result to its pair or different "format" like "3" or "bc1" -in simple terms.
If it didn't match, chances that it's the wrong key is high.
4906  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: New Electrum 3.3.5 flagged by Malwarebytes on: May 13, 2019, 01:54:39 AM
Again? This has been reported multiple times with different versions:

To properly install it,
you can just make an exception to the installer and installation directory or download the stand-alone (not portable) and make an exemption to the executable file.
4907  Economy / Economics / Re: Joseph Stiglitz: ‘We should shut down the cryptocurrencies’ on: May 12, 2019, 11:06:49 AM
Bullish news. Last time I read about this guy attacking bitcoin was weeks before the bull spike in 2017.

Is he a bull in disguise?
-snip-
That's not what he meant.
Every time the market becomes bullish, these guys tend to post negative news or FUD to spread... uh FUD (Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt).
Apparently, everyone here is expecting negative news about bitcoin during a bull run and these "crypto newscasters" never missed a single one.
Thus, it strongly indicates a bull run.

For the "news": He's alright but very biased in favor of fiat and that's what makes his statement an obvious FUD attempt.
Reasons are in my previous reply.
4908  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: mining low difficulty coins on: May 12, 2019, 10:49:48 AM
You should mine bitblen..... sorry (it's not a coin) Veil.
Although their constant shills are annoying, it's the best possible coin to mine based from your categories.
Two out of twelve veil campaigners have a valid and constructive reason.
I second the motion.

If you can expand your category, you should go for the highest profitability than easy to mine since "already listed to an Exchange" is included.
You can just buy a non-profitable and early stage coin if it's available in the Market (unless you're one of the "free electricity guys").
4909  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Strange website /cryptocoines.com SCAM? on: May 11, 2019, 04:14:54 AM
-snip- What I find strange is the fact though that they have a busy chat room with lots of talks...
That chat room is a simple pre-coded fake conversation in the site's main HTML with stolen avatars from steam community.

Another thing, the site was included in this list (Bitcointalk thread): New scam schema on the forum - Free Money To Test Casinos with the scheme's full detail.
I found it using the "search" function with the keyword: cryptocoines. Asking is good but searching before asking is better  Wink
4910  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Would you mine a theoretical ASIC Proof Coin? on: May 11, 2019, 03:51:10 AM
What do you mean "with one person one vote"? The theoretical ASIC-proof coin or the discussion, sounds like the discussion, yes?

Theoretically speaking, for the first week or four, why not.
I may hoard a bit during the low-hashrate start since it's cheaper than buying/mining it after getting enlisted to an Exchange, you know what I mean.

After that, I wouldn't if I don't find it profitable (80% of miners do this), in fact I prefer full blown ASIC coins like Bitcoin because fighting the inevitable is a waste of the developers' time; and every fork to fight the newly developed ASICs is a hassle to both the network and the miners (look at monero).
Unless your in-development coin is an innovation that's beyond POW, offers equal or better security and not a POS coin, being ASIC proof is just a fantasy.

TL;DR: Yes~ish.
4911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: please someone help me... i lost a $1000 transaction on: May 11, 2019, 03:07:11 AM
First, calm down and check the circle icon on the lower-right, if it is red or circulating arrows, your client is just disconnected to a server or if it's newly installed, it is still downloading the "block_headers".
Now, please tell us the version number of your Electrum (Latest is v3.3.5), where did you downloaded it and if you don't mind (no if privacy matters) the receiver's bitcoin address.

The bitcoins aren't stored in the wallet, it's in the network. As long as you have the receiver's Electrum's SEED (12 random-words), those bitcoins are still in your control  Wink
4912  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC addresses starting with "3" what are they ? simplified explanation. on: May 11, 2019, 02:32:57 AM
Thanks for pointing this out, do you happen to have any example of online wallets that provide multi-sig legacy address starting with "3" instead of a addresses starting with "1" or actual segwit addresses starting with "3"?
-snip-
I know one local exchange/payment processor that previously provided multisig "3" deposit addresses and later, SegWit "3" addresses for new accounts: Coins.ph/Coins.pro.
They kept the multisig ones because they are using "fixed deposit address", but the user will never distinguish which is which unless they are a bit knowledgeable in "input scripts".

Example transaction made by Coins: 8d3088ebff1dc5554cd3eb747475190b56a9e4264fb8298e8b192f6c713fad0f
The first input address is a multisig address having this redeem script:
Code:
		"type": "multisig",
"addresses": [
"1LRqsYChNsC5GmPtyN5bA8t9nL9UtDaCxZ",
"1KL1Q3AoU7fcdAVwKt1HPUwDAuBzEqgop9",
"16WX1TA21fZN2RjWKgDoS9wYe3ubnM498M"
],
"p2sh": "3LgUWbSkwvKoTdn8xexf7GqpVBRLwMs6TE"
The next 8 addresses all have "Witness data" indicating that those are P2SH-P2WPKH SegWit addresses.
You can view it on the transaction's link above under "input scripts".
4913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Recovery Non Spendable BTC on: May 11, 2019, 02:13:17 AM
AFAIK, Electrum by default will derive the P2PKH address from a private key if there's no added prefix.

But you will lose nothing if you add the prefix  Wink
Congratulations by the way.
4914  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about cancelling a transaction on: May 10, 2019, 09:00:56 AM
mocacinno and ETFbitcoin, Thank you, I just wanted to test but look like I will waste my time.
-snip-
You might wanna try it.
If the reply above (by bob123) is true, it's possible using any wallet implemented with BIP125. (Example: Electrum/BitcoinCore).
As long as you enabled "use replace-by-fee" or something similar to the setting, every transaction you will create will be marked as "RBF" and it should work.
4915  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Updated Version 3.3.5 on: May 10, 2019, 04:15:07 AM
This is something interesting I hadn't heard about.  Anybody have more information?

# Release 3.3.5 - (May 9, 2019)
~
 * Testnet: there is now a warning when the client is started in
testnet mode as there were a number of reports of users getting
   scammed through social engineering (#5295)
~
The full discussion about the issue is in the Github page: #5295.
Apparently, it's all about "social engineering" cases of scams where the scammers are sending testnet versions to greedy newbies to convince them that they have doubled their bitcoins.

Though testnet version is obviously visible on the title bar, a warning is much more comprehensive to newbies to understand that "it isn't real bitcoins".
4916  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why does my wallet show more than the blockchain on: May 10, 2019, 02:39:54 AM
How big is the difference, like 0.01mBTC on your wallet and 0.00001BTC on blockchain.info?
If that's the case, double check the unit used by your mycelium android (ex. BTC / mBTC / uBTC).
Those are Bitcoins (1unit), MilliBitcoins (.001unit) and microBitcoins (0.000001unit) respectively.

It could also be a syncing issues if you've made an "external" transaction before the last time it got synced like Bitcoin_Arena said above.

Some block explorers(including blockchain.com)  do not support segwit, so if you have any BTC in bc1 addresses they will not show up
It's highly unlikely because of the bech32 SegWit compatibility, even though it isn't supported by that site, the "bc1 address'" transactions were still included to each address' balance; you can't just click on it.
4917  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: It takes looooong time to sign tx. Electrum with Ledger Nano S on: May 10, 2019, 02:10:35 AM
I know it's a bit late but Electrum just released v3.3.5 today with the release note of Ledger Nano X compatibility fix.
Your Nano S might work using that version as well.

* hardware wallets:
   - Ledger: Nano X is now recognized (#5140)
   - KeepKey:
     - device was not getting detected using Windows binary (#5165)
     - support firmware 6.0.0+ (#5205)
   - Trezor: implemented "seedless" mode (#5118)

It's worth the try.
4918  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Synchronization Forever. With Every Server on: May 10, 2019, 01:57:17 AM
You can't sync that version easily anymore, you need to upgrade your Electrum to the latest (not Tails).
Make sure that it came from the official site: electrum.org.

Just export the SEED or the address' private key as a backup, you can restore the wallet to any Electrum client using it.

That's all.
4919  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum server for Bitcointalk members with connection problems on: May 09, 2019, 11:22:30 AM
The ddos might actually have done some good as it meant people won't have sent anything while those fees were so high...
-snip-
Yeah right, about 1% of Bitcoin's total transactions were halted by the DDOS attack, great help Grin

People who want to use the server post in this topic WHY you want to use this server, i will PM the server details.
Is it okay to start posting reasons now?
Well, I'm always sticking to a single server to avoid issues like the past few months's. It would be great if there's a reliable 100% uptime server that I can use.

By the way, if it requires the same info like mocacinno's server I might stay with the current server Undecided
Is this private?
4920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about cancelling a transaction on: May 09, 2019, 04:03:29 AM
Looks like posi's tx was lucky to get mined despite the fact that nodes will still prioritize the "first" tx and may drop the "second" without broadcasting it to other nodes Undecided

Moving on... How about transactions marked with RBF?
I've been thinking that it may be a workaround for the default node behavior to accept the "second tx" because the first one was marked with replace-by-fee.
Will it work even if the outputs were changed?

Any thoughts or personal experience?
