I'm not sure how they do it without an API but this should be more then enough to explain it to you : https://github.com/achow101/BitcointalkAccountPricer

I think they do this by parsing the profile page, and then parsing all post history (like i said in my first post)

I didn't browse the full sourcecode, but i immediately noticed following string on their github page:
Code:
Document profileSummary = Jsoup.connect("https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=" + userId + ";sa=summary").get();
4902  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 2.5 BTC loan on: December 14, 2015, 01:24:37 PM
I hope you have collateral worth 3-3.5BTC
4903  Other / Meta / Re: fetch bitcointalk data on: December 14, 2015, 01:21:40 PM
you can write a parser/scraper to just load the user's profile page, and parse their recent posts up untill the very first post..

A lot of work, but still doable Wink
4904  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap VPS on: December 14, 2015, 01:08:34 PM
Thanks for PM'ing me Smiley
The cheapest package they've got is an openVZ premium SSD, raid10 package for $15/year. Make sure you look for the openVZ packages, the KVM's are usually more expensive.
Also, don't forget to look near the bottom of the page, where they usually offer discount packages Wink

4906  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is Abe software for Bitcoin? on: December 14, 2015, 12:34:51 PM
If you want to try out abe, be carefull...

The software is real easy to install, but for me, it took several weeks to parse the whole blockchain.
So, the setup (OS, bitcoin daemon, downloading the blockchain, installing abe, loading the blockchain into abe) took almost a month...

The second time, i did find a database dump from 2014-2015 (don't remember). This shortened the loading time by a couple of days.

4908  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BTC miner ASIC app notes on: December 14, 2015, 09:28:46 AM
I know sidehack sticks are manufactured with a BM chip, so i think they do sell them... Maybe contact sidehack and ask him directly where/when/how he bought them.
4909  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Google Play Suspending games that give out Bitcoins! on: December 14, 2015, 07:32:19 AM
Try to contact member "Vineyard".
He has at least 3 games on google play that give out free btc. He might be able to help you out.
4910  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a MAC + Linux wallet on: December 11, 2015, 01:48:56 PM
Same here... I can make a linux wallet, but since bhokor was first, i will not steal his business Wink
4911  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying Accounts on: December 11, 2015, 10:20:07 AM
It is great to hear that there are ways to protect your account from stealing and attempt to claim it back. A few days ago a friend got hacked and almost lost his account, he was able to log back and restore it somehow.

How did he get hacked? Has the password not changed by the hacker?
Curious to know so as to protect myself in the future.

If you provide a signed message with an old staked account, in a very specific format, theymos or badbear will reset your password and send you your new password over email.

This is why a signed message is important in account sales. It proves you legally bought the account, so the old owner cannot just claim it back with the admins.

So, in short, you can protect your account in the following ways:
- use a password manager (like keypass), always generate a strong, unique password for all your online activity's (including bitcointalk)
- stake a bitcoin address ASAP, just post it in the address staking thread from tomatocage, and ask if somebody can quote you. Make sure you can sign a message with this staked address
4912  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin halving: how will it impact the bitcoin ecosystem? on: December 11, 2015, 10:17:50 AM
IF i was a speculator, i would buy as much bitcoins as i could right now, keep them untill after the halving and sell them when the price has risen...

I'm pretty sure prices will rise dramatically, since the supply will be smaller while the demand will (hopefully) rise... Pushing the price upwards.
The main question is: will the price be high enough for mining farms to still be profitable. This is a question that is much harder to answer.
4913  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AntMiner u3 stop working after a few hours on: December 11, 2015, 10:05:00 AM
If the seller sent one for free that does make it a little better.  But it does not matter what it does zombie out, just part of it's nature.

You really need automation which means find someone who has written it for a RPI.  Or easiest get a crazyguy custom FW R1 to fix U3 zombies.

The only problem with crazyguy's R1 is the fact that it's only economic to buy one if you're in the US. He should have a reseller in the EU to, so we can buy one without having the USPS and our local customs double the cost of buying an R1...
4914  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying BTC (Have Paypal) on: December 09, 2015, 09:31:42 AM
I would suggest using virwox... They charge large fees, and take up to 48 hours to review your first withdrawal, but they'll allow you to charge your account with PP (verified accts only), buy LLD with USD (or €), exchange LLD to BTC and withdraw the BTC.

As i said, they charge a hefty fee with each step of the process, but you'll end up with some BTC in your wallet.
4915  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Scares Me...? on: December 07, 2015, 08:35:23 AM
you can always try multibit HD....

But can you elaborate why you don't like electrum? I've been using it for a long time now, without any hiccups.
4916  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Creating a website used to describe bitcoins in a simple(er) way, need feedback! on: December 07, 2015, 06:56:51 AM
I haven't read the whole text, but i do like the simplicity of your website...

It looks very informative, the only question i have is: why? Are you trying to create something for the community, or are you trying to make a living out of this site in some way?
4917  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Get list of all addresses with a balance over x? on: December 04, 2015, 01:40:21 PM
Are you sure that list is not somehow corrupted? For me it stops at line 503 and after that it's only endless lines of 'X's

Does somebody have an intact recent list off all addresses that they could share?
Thanks!

oh, i actually couldn't check it because of the size  Shocked, i might forgot something. ill look into it and upload again. sorry about that

Edit: here is the full list with no problems https://mega.co.nz/#!0UpWCTxb!oIMkD8t4PK4iATuuj2TmMNhT4TXJn-pDcED1iyXBvAM

after 3000000 addresses its only XXXXXXXXXXXX Huh Huh

Please can someone share the updated list.

Will be very much thankful.

Or atleast tell me a way to get all addresses without downloading the whole blockchain

Plz help... I am new to this..

I can try to do this for you... But since it'll take a lot of time and recources, i'm not doing this for free Wink

Would http://www.wysibb.com/ help you out?
4919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can ASICS miners be repurposed for other use? on: December 03, 2015, 12:17:53 PM
I've seen a couple guys using their ASIC's as a space heater, but i guess that's about it  Wink

God Lord that's one expensive heater, I can tell you this! Smiley

No, at the moment the only usage is for Bitcoin mining or some other alts mining that share Bitcoin's algorithm, which in the end almost always turns out to be a waste of money since these alts are 99% all of the scams!

Mining business is pretty ruthless when you think about it more closely! No place for mistakes!

True... But if you use them for mining, and as a space heater at the same time, you can heat your space for free (since reasonable HW will produce enough BTC to cover the electricity costs).  Grin

I'm actually on the lookout for a dirtcheap S1-S5 for exactly this reason (it's winter, and we heat part of our house electrically anyways, so why wouldn't i use a dirtcheap secondhand antminer and make almost enough coins to cover my electric bill)
4920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why arnt we seeing more bitcoin ATM popping up? on: December 03, 2015, 10:30:06 AM
also they are not really needed, you can buy easily on any exchange, localbitcoin, i can't really see the point of atm for bitcoin

also everything that increase the fee for bitcoin is a no no in my view, instead they should offer a discount, if you purchase from an atm...

But ATM's are owned by a person or a company that payed a lot of cash for the ATM, connectivity, power, rent for the space where the ATM is installed.
If they would offer bitcoins with a discount, i don't think it would be a viable business model.

I think this is one of the main reasons why you don't see a lot of ATM's: it takes a lot of effort, time and money to install and maintain an ATM...
