4921  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE 253 blocks solved! on: December 13, 2019, 08:41:36 PM
Is there a way to see list of users in this pool?
just want compare myself to others...
Thanks

You are competing against nearly 90 EH worth of hashrate, so on the grand scheme of things the total hashrate of CKpool is close to 0 , so there is really
no point in comparing yourself to others on this very pool , like the rest of us here , you are just taking a long shot in the dark , so just have faith and keep your fingers crossed.
4922  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Some Error in Kernel Log Regarding PIC on: December 13, 2019, 08:16:53 PM
It's likely that not the cleaning itself that fixed it, it's the shaking/moving of the hashboard  , I have experienced something similar with boards showing 0 asics and some showing PIC error, it turns out that the coil on the board is a bit loose or just needs hitting like how my grandfather used to hit the old television when it didn't work.

image source : Amazon.com , added the arrow and the red square to show you where the coil is.
4923  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin EVER have a bigger blocksize? Is there hope? on: December 13, 2019, 02:37:26 AM

I have always disagreed with your signature phill , sorry I have been wanting to confess but never had the chance  Cry Cry Cry

I like the description you use, but not the way you structure it , if I had to use the same thing , i would call Blockchain a highway , and every coin including Bitcoin trucks needed to move transactions/value.

Now it's up to the user to chose how would they want to transfer their funds ,  do you want to use an armored truck guarded by a dozen security guards but apparently slow in it's nature form like Bitcoin , or send your money in an exposed motorcycle ignoring every aspect and focusing only on speed like BSV or any other "let's make huge blocks" coins ?

so you have to chose , do you want fast ? or secured ? you can't have both , but what if someone told you that , there might be a way to actually move that heavy armored truck a lot faster (LN/Segwit and whatever might come in the future).

I am not blindly taking sides here, I just don't understand why would anyone blindly ask for larger blocks when we have not utilized a fraction of other solutions, the other day a BSV supporter was bragging about a 500MB block (was most likely full of unnecessary information that has nothing to do with transacting value) , how many people do you know that have an internet bandwidth that can actually propagate a block that huge? man I pay a fortune for a 2mb connection where I live, and I have limited quota , running a Bitcoin full node costs me a lot with block size on disk =< 1MB , imagine it was 4MB or 64MB , let alone unlimited blocksize , I just can't figure out the amount of weed I need to smoke to get remotely close to accepting these brainless thoughts of going full blast on blocksize.

4925  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitmain.Farm SCAM ? on: December 12, 2019, 11:49:24 PM
Are you signed in to a google account?

Yes I am , but the same thing appears searching while logged-out , I tried using Internet Explorer which I have not used for ages , and I still got the same scam website showing up, but this time it's placed second after another shitty Masternode website (www.nodepools.com).

Clearing cash/cookies and using a VPN did not stop Bitmain.Farm from appearing either, I am not sure how these ads did not appear to goinmerry.
4926  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitmain.Farm SCAM ? on: December 12, 2019, 11:10:01 PM
Maybe you just need to adjust your filters or something like that in the browser settings? I've searched for the word Bitmain on both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome but shows no AD on the headers or even the bitmain farm site itself. Or might it be IP and location-based?

I think Google has targeted advertising sort of thing , so maybe the add doesn't appear to everyone, maybe location matters too , I don't know what I don't know in regards to Google ads.

but they have the same hotline number -

That's a brave thing to do , but who calls nowadays anyway? they are probably betting on the fact that nobody actually picks up the phone and call a company based in China , I doubt Bitmain will pick up calls anyway, unless you are lucky, but ya , wouldn't hurt to try , just consider the time-zone differences.
4927  Economy / Reputation / Re: @EMEKA OKOLI using someone elses work for contest (possibly sold account) on: December 12, 2019, 11:01:45 PM
Ok, lets say that i don't have proof strong enough for this EMEKA OKOLI-yakin102 thing, but please check this post
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5208555.msg53325981#msg53325981

You do have a proof , you actually proved that they are the same person, he admitted that himself to be more accurate.

This is my account but I gave it to my friend

and here
And I can take the account from a friend back if it is necessary

Quote
There i showed undeniable fact (and proofs) that EMEKA KOLIE stole  voicovers and used them for his videos. He did it for 2 different videos (Athero and KitKat). Guess what happened after i showed that? He deleted those videos.

I edited my first post, so  I will quote myself again

Quote
it's quite interesting, assuming those are plagiarized / stolen , I think you should report them to Youtube so that they ban his account or delete those videos or whatever they do for these kind of cases , ,I don't think "mistakes" made outside the forum are judged by the mods here, but you can try to take this case to meta and see what the mods have to say.
4928  Economy / Reputation / Re: @EMEKA OKOLI using someone elses work for contest (possibly sold account) on: December 12, 2019, 10:47:12 PM
Well plagiarism is a  reason for permaban, and I think that i provided enough proof and showed that this is an  obvious case of that, so he should be banned.

You need to prove that EMEKA OKOLI stole the video/content from someone else for this to be considered plagiarism ,  and for this to work you need yakin102  to actually complain and say  " EMEKA OKOLI stole my work" which is not going to happen because apparently EMEKA OKOLI is yakin102 , and yakin102 is EMEKA OKOLI  Undecided.

You might argue that yakin102 doesn't have to do that , because EMEKA OKOLI could have used the work of Steven Spielberg and Steven Spielberg wouldn't come here to complain , that makes sense, but the moment EMEKA OKOLI posts here using his "friend" account yakin102 and says that was his own work, this case is closed as far as plagiarism/ban is concerned.

as for tagging the user for having an alt or using the same video twice, it's hard to judge , I don't tag alts unless they try to scam , if this user have not participated in the same contest using two different accounts , I don't think a negative is deserved, but hey that is just me, I am sure many others will have a different opinion.

Sorry to let you down, you did a great job out there, I have no doubt that EMEKA OKOLI is yakin102 and he is the typical shitposter , bounty/contest hunter which the forum would do much better without, but really, you can't make this a perfect place, this isn't a perfect world after all.

edit:

I forgot to comment about this post > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5208555.msg53325981#msg53325981

4929  Economy / Reputation / Bitmain.Farm SCAM ? on: December 12, 2019, 10:17:19 PM

First of all I would like to address that this topic is not about Bitmain (www.bitmain.com) but its about what appears to be their Cloud Mining/Referral program website (www.Bitmain.Farm)

A simple google search for the word "bitmian" gives you this fake website on top of the list.

It's okay, we know google don't monitor scams and stuff, but this shit sucks really, scammers all over the place and then Bitcoin will be the thing to blame  Undecided

I am making this topic because I have not found anything on google that states the fact that these guys are scammers, the website is pretty new I suppose since the ads only started appearing today.

I would like to clarify that I have not been scammed by (www.Bitmain.Farm) , I don't know anyone who was , but I am 99.9% sure they are scammers , but why is that?

They pretend to be the real Bitmain when they are not

This is the only thing I have against them, I don't care what are they trying to sell or how they do it, I am pretty sure they are planning to scam newbies , please DO NOT TRUST BITMAIN.FARM .

If Bitmain.com states otherwise, then I am wrong.
4930  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain introduces the Antminer S17 Pro, Antminer S17, and the Antminer T17 on: December 12, 2019, 09:46:36 PM
But I mean hey you got some baller coupons no?

Most coupons people got have a 10% rule and expire on Jan 2020 , it's really nothing but a "Sorry not sorry, we screwed you" from Bitmain, these coupons now go for 30% of face value, or this is what most people are trying to sell them for, although I have been getting the same offers from the same people for weeks now, so it's unlikely that people are actually paying that much ,which means if you wanted to sell them you need to go much lower , maybe 20% or so.

Bitmain dropped gear prices today, AGAIN !! S9 finally goes for under 100$ for the first time in history.

[...]

I think i have failed in addressing the main concern here, maybe this is the wrong section for the topic anyway  Grin

if you forget the title for a while, and just focus on the sheet, can't you see a potential issue coming in the next decade or two ? or even a bit closer like how phill thinks ?

to make it a little bit clearer, if bitcoin's existence depends 100% on price, at which point will this become a real threat, and what solutions do you propose to overcome such a potential issue?

this is what  daveF, phill and I are actually discussing anyway.

4934  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: ماهو Halving البيتكوين on: December 12, 2019, 05:03:05 PM

4936  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: For how long can we actually mine ? on: December 12, 2019, 01:23:50 PM
Sitting on the gear to attack later is just not good business.

That makes sense, however the incentives may still be there, some might want to increase the 21 million cap so they can still mine, some might do it for the sake of it, we don't know what reasons anyone will have, we just know that attacks on the blockchain might be fairly easy and don't cost much, and that itself is an issue.

however , as far is economic is concerned, your theory is valid , if bitcoin is worth so little that it becomes easy to attack , it won't be worth the attack in the first place, economically it makes no sense.

The biggest issue would be a pool or group of pools that gains enough hash. But I would think the same backlash that hit ghash.io back in the day would happen again.

That's another major concern as well, very well addressed by you.

Edit: As for the blockchain size, I really think that is a non issue. I just got a 1TB SSD for under $100 at Amazon. I could have gotten it for less but I was in a hurry and just wanted to get it ordered, did not want to stop and shop to save $10.00.

100$ is a lot of money to most people , as far as using it to store a blockhain that doesn't pay you anything, those who would always need to run nodes regardless of the cost would be mining pools and businesses receiving payments on the blockchain, at that point , most pools will close down , if price doesn't "moon" many individuals will lose hope and simply shutdown their nodes , this takes us back to your statement:

It's all really going to depend on the price...

everything goes down to that, decentralization of nodes , decentralization of mining , security and adoption will always depend on bitcoin to be worth a minimum price of x number, this puts us in a very difficult race against time.

But as I said earlier ;

I personally think that before 2045's halving whereby price only needs to be at around half a million $ per coin is somehow safe, after that things will start to get really difficult...

if the fiat system collapses by then and bitcoin does become a real mean of payment which is attached to no fiat value, we won't have to worry about any of this. Roll Eyes
4937  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: For how long can we actually mine ? on: December 12, 2019, 12:21:19 PM
So we all agree on the main points here, except that i think mining farms will still do just fine till 2029-2033 because i don't see why wouldn't bitcoin hit 50k in 10 years, the way i look at it is if btc can't do that, it might as well just die and disappear.

Now since we agree to the fact the home miners will dominate at certain point, how reliable will bitcoin be then when 1 large farm can switch their gears back on and easily attack the network or force new rules / hardfork or whatever shit anyone would do? The blockchain size by then will also be very large, nodes number might as well drop significantly , making every kind of attack much more easier than it is now.

I know that isn't 100% mining related, but what plans do we have for those "dark days" ? How can we maintain the same level of mining incentives to keep the blockchain secured without totally depending on price?

4939  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / For how long can we actually mine ? on: December 12, 2019, 12:17:36 AM
I was reading through this topic , checked the excel sheet and I was inspired to make something similar and to take the "speculation" a little bit further, and I came up with this.

-Since I have no data of future difficulty ( for obvious reasons ) that factor has been totally ignored.
-I also think that mining gears efficiency improvement will cover up for hashrate decrease that is caused by future halving.

The most important column would be the most right (Price Required) , which stands for the price bitcoin has to be in order for

1- Mining to be as profitable as it is today.
2- The incentives for mining remains the same.
3- Mining decentralization does not fade away.
4- 51% attack cost / difficulty does not decrease.

At which point do you think that all the above will be extremely hard to keep ?

I personally think that before 2045's halving whereby price only needs to be at around half a million $ per coin is somehow safe, after that things will start to get really difficult for miners and for bitcoin as a whole ,assuming price does not go pass 100,000$ by 2040 bitcoin mining will be 80% less profitable and less decentralized.

While the next a few years or decades seem to be pretty promising, things become complicated as we move on, i will most likely be dead by then, but I love to speculate how will mining be like by then??
4940  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hashrate and Mining Difficulty on: December 11, 2019, 11:49:00 PM
I see in the cgminer command window that the diff of bitcoin at the moment of posting this is 12.9T, does this mean I need at least 12.9T of hashpower to even consider playing the lottery or do miners with a lot less hashrate get to play the lottery?

You are confusing T with TH , the T that comes after 12.9T does not stand for terahash, the TH on your miner does , without going into much details think of the 12.9T as difficulty point  and simply don't pay much attention to it , you can solo mine with any mining gear you have regardless of it's hashrate.

Below is a website made by someone in this forum (forgot who he was but)  , you can use it to estimate your chances of finding a block, luck is still your main point of strength when solo mining , but it's good to know the probabilities.
