4961  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What to do with old miners? on: April 05, 2016, 11:49:48 AM
Peercoin has very movable difficulty.

If you spend time you can mine when diff is down and not up.

It has a very good upside coming up to the btc 1/2 ing.

But I do agree after the btc 1/2 ing it will see some kind of shift
Peercoin diff will rise after the 1/2ing as the profitability of ppc is the same as btc right now. People will see that after the 1/2 ing and soon we'll be seeing a diff spike in ppc as well. I'm mining with 2 S5s on ppc solo, found 2 blocks so far. Doing good, + profit.
4962  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cheap electricity for mining Bitcoin on: April 05, 2016, 11:45:57 AM
I am building a Bitcoin mining data center in Venezuela, a country with very cheap electricity. I am planning on offering full hosting at first for the equivalent of 0.20 USD per KW/h to cover initial costs, then reducing the fee to 0.15 USD per KW/h, or even lower, including space, Internet, electricity, and cooling. No setup costs. You send the equipment, and we plug it in and set it hashing. I would like to gauge interest in such an arrangement.

Naturally there are some risks. As many of you already know, Venezuela is a country with a hybrid regime, terrible property rights, violent crime, civil unrest, very high inflation, censorship, and electricity brown-outs that are a bit more frequent than they should (1-2 times per month for a couple of hours).

Nonetheless, cheap electricity is what a miner needs, not necessarily a very stable supply. If electricity falters too often, I will install power generators since petrol is extremely cheap in Venezuela as well.

Would you put your miners in Venezuela if I were to offer such a service?

The cheap cost is alluring but this civil unrest you mentioned has got me thinking: I hope I don't get shot on my way to get a burger.
There's always risk involved for profit; in this case you COULD get shot while trying to get a bag o chips. I'd put my miners in Venezuela but seriously the risk is way lower than the reward. 0.2/kwh sucks for elec alone, but coupled with cooling it's an ok deal
4963  Economy / Services / Re: Rollin.io - Article/Review + Youtube Video Campaign! on: April 05, 2016, 10:26:41 AM
About youtube campaign, can I record my friend to explain about rollin.io feature or somekind like that ?

If there is also recording material of the Rollin website, sure.

I could get an article/review up on Fintechist later this week, it's a hybrid fintech/crypto site but there is a dedicated bitcoin section Smiley

Great jdebunt, looking forward to that. Smiley

I don't have any website or blog. but I am interested to write review in facebook and twitter..
just want to ask you: may I write multiple reviews in multiple facebook pages, or only one review per account you'll accept?

thank you

We don't accept reviews written on twitter and facebook at the moment, thanks for bringing this to our attention though. Only 1 review per account, I will update the thread.

Is possible write to about rollin.io with youtube'

No unfortunately we don't allow that.

Is there any subscriber requirement for YouTube.

Good idea. Wink

I am interested in writing an article / review my site Republikcoin.com tell me if it is allowed

New requirement: We don’t allow outdated websites/blogs; your website/blog must be at least 4 months old and must show activity daily/weekly.

To all who posted their article/review or youtube video; I will review it asap.
I have posted my review before the new requirements, will you still count my review? Took me a while to write that and it was also fun knowing how great thr website is Smiley

4965  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PCI-E Riser as a 2nd GPU on: April 04, 2016, 10:25:37 PM
Many people (even me) have had this question. The problem is that usb 3.0 will bottleneck the transfer speed. Other than that, everything should work. USB 3.0 has a very limited speed cap, MUCH below PCI speed. It's really not a good option for gaming per se, but for mining the speed SHOULD be enough, although the transfer speed is not optimal.
There is no way to put a gpu onto a rpi, for it's just impossible. However there are custom eGpu options for only ~50USD that are well documented and can work on any device with a mini pci slot. Find them here, but there are cheaper prices at other websites occasionally:

4967  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: April 04, 2016, 08:52:32 PM
Is there a pool that pays when you use a low hashrate miner? Like Antpool PPS,  do they payout when you reach 0.0001 ?
Eclipse offers PPS, but im not sure what the payout threshold is for them. Should be quite low as I tested an Antminer S1 on there (underclocked ofc) and I got paid with their PPS. They aren't a big pool, but they do have pretty good rates.

an S1 is still >4 times faster than a U3 Smiley
My S1 was underclocked to 100gh/s, so the results were pretty close, still near 2x faster but still you get the idea.I'm pretty sure nobody runs s1s at full speed anymore because even in places like amazon and ebay, S1s and S3s cost the same and use about the same amount of power, but the S3 has much more hashrate.
4968  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Apr 1 to Apr 15? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: April 04, 2016, 07:49:33 PM
Looks like the "big peak" is turning back on, network hash rate is rising.  These peaks are timings with the diff adjustments it appears, which I think is a good thing.  I better thing would be if the hash went away for good but it doesn't appear like that is going to happen.  I wonder if one of these times it will just stay on...
Most likely some outdated miners taking advantage of the difficulty. I imagine a few PH/S of S5s and S7s turning temporarily on for a day or two and waiting for the next difficulty adjustment. If they stayed on, difficulty would begin to skyrocket again as a few PH/S of miners would enter pools, so it's a good thing generally.
4969  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New one fan S7 on: April 04, 2016, 07:44:21 PM
my question is. why the 1 fan all of a sudden.

If the machine could run well on 1 fan why have 15 batches before with 2 fans.

Is this in preparation for a new unit to field test with 1 fan. will be interesting to see how these function in a home miner environment where heat can be an issue at times.
Bitmain wanted to reduce the price as much as possible, so they made a batch with as few parts as possible that could still operate. Buncha chinese cheapos, but the good news is it runs at a higher decibel level but at nearly the same temps. In summer temps may become a problem but it works for now.
4970  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 21 cents per kw, Any way to mine? on: April 04, 2016, 11:37:17 AM
Even with S7, he would lose money at 21 cent/kWh. He could have made some money by mining Ethereum.

But add up cost of 6 GPU rig with nice GPU's.... it's pricey.  Do you believe enough in a in a alt this much?   Could be a 2 grand guess depending on cards.   I personally sold most of my GPU's long ago and worked out well.  I am hesitant to spend big and build nice rigs on a alt currently.  Compare to S7 coupon price, its a much higher investment.

And really you should not be mining anything at 21 cents.  This thread is all about that your killing your ROI by mining with such high electricity price.

a six gpu right cost you around 2500-3000 max, this is 5 antminer s7 right?

but you need to compare also the consumption

5 antminer consume 6kw, against 1kw for the six gpu miner, 5 antimer s7 earn you around 0.07, a sig gpu miner earn you the same basically(2 ethereum a day= 0.058)

For the time being, it is very profitable for GPU mining of the Etheruem. If it becomes not profitable, you can sell the cards.

This is true but I just have trouble going back to GPU, and it could just be a personal thing.  I can remember selling off my rigs before when I stopped GPU mining a ways back..... that is a good amount of ebay sales.  So you counting on a lot of good buyers and not crap ones, not to mention dealing with low ball offers, shipping, etc.

If Etheruem has problems and you do need to sell, you also compete against all the others getting out of mining it.  That is part I really don't like.  A LOT left gpu mining around the same time with asics and you were selling cards cheaper due to volume of sellers.   So .... again not fun.

Also GPU time I had to babysit a lot more then I do with my asics.  I have had some asics hit a month + without me touching them.  I had a lot more time then this monitoring my GPU rigs.

I'm not saying I won't try it if I see a long term mining, that I can believe in.  But I'm not to that point yet personally.

with bitcoin asic it's the same you're competing every 3 months with the other asic, before your is obsolete again, there is onyl a small window of profit with bitcoin, from when the miner are available

the good thing about gpu is that they do not depreciate so quickly like asic sha256 or any asic if anything
The only problem is that a GPU is not built to be at near 100% load for extended periods of time, and often what happens is over a period of a month, even well-cooled gpus will start having the effects of heat and components will begin to degrade. I've had a dead R9 270X once mining ethereum for only 2 months. Thus most people buying gpus ask what it was used for if they're buying used gpus, and most people are unwilling to buy gpus used for mining as they know mining will shorten a gpu's life drastically. Unless the buyer is really desperate, few people will buy a used mining gpu as the wear can get pretty bad mining ethereum and other altcoin.

4972  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Btc Miner Avalon Nano USB Bitcoin Miner 3.6GH/s asicminer on: April 04, 2016, 10:42:51 AM
Not at all. The Avalon Nano is (was) a very efficient miner and made around 3 cents a day a few months ago before the crazy difficulty rise. Nowadays the outdated avalon chip doesn't make profit anymore, and it's just a good idea for people who want an entry-level miner that doesn't eat up a ton of electricity. You can buy one if you like, but seriously for beginners a block erupter is a lot cheaper and has lots of mods available and also is very well documented.

Is there an avatar for this campaign? I noticed someone wearing one earlier but it looks like a custom built one

I was also wondering when are the cutoff times of the post count for the day? It only says when the payment time is on the first page.

BTW, received payment on time yesterday.
Thank you Yahoo62278  Grin
There isn't an official avatar, but I guess you can build your own avatar. I do hope somebody makes one in the future as my avatar space is empty and I could always put in one. Who was wearing the avatar? I'm interested if you could link me to his account.. Smiley
This participant in the campaign:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=556265

It took no time to find him since I knew he would be in this thread just by doing a quick look at each page I found him in no time.
Might consider using it in the future, but for now i'm using a custom one that I cropped from my fav csgo team.. A bit low def but cropping definitely helped it. Thanks anyways, the avatar looks really nice and if there were to be an official avatar, i'd vote for that one. Thanks!

4975  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: if you have free electricity and 10k on: April 03, 2016, 11:03:46 PM
You could make a really nice Ethereum rig with 10k and even less with GPU discounts on websites like newegg. Ether is very profitable atm so with a fair investment like ~2.5K you could be making ~150mh/s and raking in a pretty sizeable profit from it. If you're going to mine Ether, don't hold TOO long. It's still growing and there is the off chance of it dying, so trade it for bitcoin regularly unless you're a serious trader. The best GPUs for Ethereum tend to be AMD cards in the R9 200-300 series, because those offer the best performance for mining over "more serious" cards like GTX 900s and Titans. I'm more of a Nvidia fanboy, but for mining Ethereum and basically all altcoins, AMD is king.
4976  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: electricity bill price good? on: April 03, 2016, 10:59:37 PM
You should be close to ROI if difficulty doesn't spike tremendously like 2015, which is a possibility with the new bitfury miners soon coming out. Even though the halving is coming soon you should make a profit, and that's not counting the nearly certain price spike when the halving comes, which'll bring the block reward to 12.5, which will raise the price by a few hundred dollars most likely. Difficulty? My guess is it's going to rise A LOT because of 1. Bitfury's supposedly world-changing efficiency which will destroy this generation of miners and 2. Price and difficulty go hand in hand. Higher price usually means higher difficulty, even though as well as block reward going down, profitability will also go down. 2.5cents/kWh is a great price to have for electricity and once the new bitfury miners come out, hop on the bandwagon. You'll make a lot of bitcoin!
4977  Economy / Reputation / Re: My list of ignored members on: April 03, 2016, 10:23:03 PM
First of all, nobody's going to read this because i'm ignored and there's nothing I can do about it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a signature campaign. A forum is a place to express your ideas freely, and it just so happens that somebody in the past decided that hiring people to spread their ideas for them. All that led to this moment in time where many believe that carrying a signature campaign means untrustworthy, spammy, and deserving of being ignored, of which all of those are stereotypes. There are plenty of those, so I won't have to list any of them. I'm Chinese, so I assure you I get those all the time about "do you eat rice every day?" (which is actually true, but wow I listed one already, so..).

Not everybody posts to gain money; in fact the average "good" user here probably found signature campaigns a week or a month after they've been here (I found signature campaigns 6 or so months after I joined!) and  thought, hey, I could be paid for my ideas! So they join. They talk about the newest generation miner, new chips, and difficulty speculation and helping new people. That's before a few stumble upon this thread and realize, "hey, why is this guy ignoring me?" In that case the signature campaign carrier did absolutely nothing wrong. The sad and disappointing thing is that most people see spammers with signature campaigns and I do too! EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. In that case, the campaigner has done very wrong and deserves to be ignored. Not everybody deserves to be on this list, but cherrypicking people out would be a very arduous task, so I guess this guy wrote something that found every single person with a campaign and compiled their names. There are many people that don't belong on that list, but since everybody with a campaign is now ignored, nobody will listen to me either. This list hasn't been updated in a very long time since the OP doesn't believe in probation apparently, so there is no room to change and there are plenty of people out there who have used his list. In case any of you are using this, although you may not be able to hear me, it must be a pretty desolate world out there with you in the middle of it all. There's even spammers without signature campaigns as well! What're you going to do about them? So I guess, take this with a grain of salt since nobody really cares anyway. That's just my two cents though, it's up to you if you ignore me or not, but to sum this up, ignoring people with signature campaigns is like segregation, there might be good people out there, but just like in the past not every race was treated equally.
4978  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: if you have free electricity and 10k on: April 03, 2016, 08:43:33 PM
Even if anyone would have free electricity, mining is not an option to plunge into, these days, as halving is coming and nobody is sure whether they will still profit or not...
Many would leave this even as a hobby just because of the price, it needs to get to somewhere near $500 - $600 for miners to be able to profit at halved rewards...

If you are interested in just Bitcoins, then just buy them and trade...
Don't go for anything which you are not aware of...
Instead, just buy and hodl... Wink
Of course some people are just interested in the mining process and minting a block imo is much more exciting than trading bitcoin on some exchange. The latter provides more profit over time if you're a good trader, but even if you're not a good trader you can invest SOME bitcoin into trading (10-20$) and learn market patterns and maybe earn profit. If you don't, well, you have the satisfaction of knowing that you learned a bit about markets and only spent a few bucks. Mining is much more interesting and "fun" imo, but trading will probably get you more profit and you're not buying hardware that could get obsolete. Word of advice- don't hold too much btc on exchanges as we don't want another cryptsy or mt.gox to happen to you. Smiley

Campaign is full right now unless youre an exceptional member.

Maybe you should update the main post if the campaign is full or people will just continue to apply
You never know, anybody could be an "exceptional" member. Discouraging people from applying is just going to make people less likely to join and with that you could discourage a great poster with high trust from applying. Putting the message up on the first post would be great, as EVERYBODY reads that except people who don't do anything but spam. It's not full, just the campaign is looking for above-average posters.
what is the difference of the exceptional to a normal member. Its all about quality of the post?
I was thinking if i join or not.. because really dont understand what is exceptional...
Exceptional (imo, I don't know yahoo's expectations, but i'll voice mine) means that your posts aren't just on topic but takes the conversation further or you have some amazing idea that you have. I'm not an exceptional poster by any means, but that's my idea and i'm aiming for that kind of post quality in the future. Don't worry, at least try and who knows? You might be the exceptional poster he's looking for. Smiley you just gotta believe.
