Bitcoin is controlled by math and algorithms while Fiat is controlled by governments and banks.
That's why people should trust Bitcoin more than Fiat.

My shitcoin is also controlled by math.  Trust my shitcoin Smiley

Nah.  Fiat is the orthodoxy, by definition not a cult.  It also comes in handy when I wish to buy such niceties such as food, cigs and gasoline Smiley

Or, indeed, the wheelbarrow to carry it in.

When was the last time you carried a wheelbarrow full of fiat, Richy_T?

Use plastic, get on my level.
Convenient, accepted everywhere (well, Pedro selling shit dope on the corner bulks, but otherwise...), and best of all--safe. Cool

heh... who is hoping for economic collapse ?  im still holding fiat more than i hold bitcoin.  but be realistic when everyone says bad thing ahead.
...

Oh, I dunno.  Plenty of people here think that Bitcoin is going to be valuable when fiat collapses.

uhm... says the fiat cultist...  Tongue

@okthen: pretty much what Spaceman_Spiff said.
For the same reason the finance aficionados on this forum are hoping for world economic collapse--they're dangerously deluded cultists.
Nope, just accepting an unpleasant inevitability is all, real and honest stuff so you'd probably have a harder time understanding than most. Bitcoin's already saved a few folks when their financial system collapsed and they where locked out from their bank accounts and it will likely do the same for many many more because the global financial system has been bent and strained to breaking point.
Whether that ends in a controlled correction or a complete failure is up to people like Greenspan and Bitcorn so I've not a whole lot of hope for it but maybe they can hold it together, either way the west is going to end up a whole lot poorer.

You do realize that if world economy does collapse, Bitcoin will be as worthless as any other scrip?
And what's up with all the anger?

I wonder if this is the general forum feeling felt before other bubbles. I came into btc so close to the beginning of the Nov 2013 rally that for a while there I had the feeling bitcoin was all about going up. So I don't really know what's the sentiment that preceeds leaving a long bearish market...

This situation is unique. It's the first time we see the Bitcoin market behave like this.
As i said it turned into a pump and dump coin.
That's why i'm out. This won't change anytime soon either.

To my knowledge, the bitcoin market didn't really have the ability to short before Nov 2013 because no exchanges offered it.  Now it's everywhere.  To me, this is the biggest problem now... no one trusts that an uptrend is real, believing that it's just a short term pump (in order to short at the top) or simply a short squeeze that's causing an artificial rise.  We can't see any true demand buying.

At least partially.

...
I did mention that around this time last year, some serious people entered the market--richer, tougher, and smarter than myself.
I also admitted that, around that time, I knew that I was no longer able to read the market.

flopping back down

LOL All the way to $415.

No.  All the way to $395.  Don't fib when you don't need to Smiley

$395? What, 15 hours ago? LOL

Fibbing? LOL

Meanwhile how long ago was $415?

 Roll Eyes

Jimbo, you must be too overinvested to think rationally.
The price spiked to 418 (417.99) and went back down to 395.  That's how far it fell from the most recent high.  Now it's coming back up again.  Not quite 315, but you're getting there.  Hold tight Smiley

why cant you be a bull for once a while ?

You mean why don't I pretend that 395 is 415 once in a while?  To what end?

abortive rally

Answered your own question.

 Smiley

Lol, rally means going up, not peaking and flopping back down.  But you might have better luck in the future, looks like it's been "trending" up again for the last few hours Smiley
Hold on to your dreams!
4996  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 14, 2014, 05:30:40 PM
I have suggested watching the hash rate to find the bottom.  Why?  Well, if miners start taking machines offline, it affects supply by reducing the coins mined to the normal 3600 daily or less.  But more importantly, it indicates the lowest price that miners must sell at to make a profit (of course every miner will have a slightly different level).  Any lower and miners must hold and hope for a price increase.  To sell would guarantee that they couldn't pay the monthly bills.  That behavior could dramatically affect supply.
Won't there on average be 3600 coins mined daily regardless of hashing power? Not sure I understand this argument...

The number is approximate.  If the hashrate halves now, for instance, fewer blocks will be mined/day until the next difficulty adjustment.

No seriously. We can't get over 400. Dumpers do everything to go below 400. And they will win...

Cool

Finished work. Quick look at thread. Bearishness seemingly everywhere. Lambchop (wrong for this entire 40% rise) reappeared posting negative trash.

Quick look at wisdom expecting sub 360. Price actually 403 on stamp. Ha. Please keep shorting bitcoin.

Edit: more of the bs quantum computing fud please! Lol

Such butthurt!  Please quote a single statement I have made you think is "wrong" Angry

P.S:  Congrats on the abortive rally.  The important thing is you tried!

@JimboToronto:

2014:  Steady downtrend, down $750.
Keep trolling.

Trolling? LOL Take a look in the mirror.

Blatchcorn couldn't see a rally. I showed the last 10 days.

You called it a random time frame and showed an arbitrary period of downtrend.

I showed a larger arbitrary period of uptrend. You called it trolling?

Talk about cherry picking. LOL

You showed the last 10 days, I showed the last 10 months.  Seems reasonable, no?
